You're tired after going to the hospital, right?

It's just like the doctor in Morioka said.

He can't help it.

Even adults struggled with that disaster.

He'll get better.

That's why we came here.

He'll be okay.

But even after five years...

Year 2016

Hikaru still never spoke.

Is he going to stay like this forever?

What good is it if we're the ones losing hope?

You're right. Sorry.

Hikaru?

Hikaru!

A dog?

- Here's its medicine. Take care. - Thank you.

I gave him a rabies vaccine.

He's a bit weak, but we'll monitor him with an IV drip.

Thank you so much.

Also, this dog has a microchip.

Kamaishi?

That dog came from Kamaishi?

It's Tamon.

That dog is Tamon.

Mom used to mention him a lot.

I was shocked too.

There's no way a dog could travel alone all the way from Iwate to Kumamoto.

Exactly!

A dog can't just travel by itself and make it all the way to Kumamoto!

Someone must've been with him then?

Oh! The guy you mentioned on the bus?

I just want to do one good thing. Anything.

What?

The truck driver fell asleep at the wheel.

By the time he was taken to the hospital, he already passed.

Sugai, eyes front. Don't look away.

He died?

Then who brought the dog to Hikaru?

I'm telling you, it was him.

Wait, hold on, hold on.

Ah! You just believe that's what happened?

No, that's not it.

There's a dog that traveled from Iwate to Kumamoto. Has anyone encountered this dog during its journey?

I looked after that dog for a short time.

I had at least heard the name Tamon.

Before the disaster, my mother often took Hikaru to that park.

Oh wow!

This is fun, huh?

Swinging harder now. It's faster.

Huh? Wait.

What?! Where are you going, Tamon?

Ah! See him? Here he comes.

Okay, ready... go!

It was just like...

Two lovers reunited after being torn apart.

I still remember what my mother used to say.

Tamon and Hikaru were together every single day.

Why they were so drawn to each other...

Maybe they were together in a previous life.

My mother would say that like it was a joke.

Those days ended all of a sudden.

See you tomorrow!

Shall we go?

Mom! Where did you go?!

My mother, and Miss Deguchi, the person who owned Tamon,

both died in the disaster.

My wife and I

decided to move to Kumamoto, where her family lived.

After the disaster,

Hikaru became terrified of the sea.

After the disaster, Tamon

stayed at that park every single day.

And then one day...

He disappeared.

I don't think Tamon traveled alone the whole time.

It took five years for him to reach here after all.

Someone must have taken him in for a while, like you did.

Or maybe he moved around with different people.

I'm sure there are still more people he met like that out there.

There must be.

Sugai, eyes front. Don't look away.

I promised I'd tell you about delivering Tamon.

Thank goodness.

How did you even find Hikaru?

I couldn't have done it.

Only Tamon knew where he needed to go.

So all I could do was let him walk wherever he wanted.

Once he entered the mountains, Tamon became wild again.

He ate when he felt like it, ran when he felt like it.

Tamon was free.

At one point in Shimane, he lived with a hunter.

That man had cancer.

He refused treatment.

He spent his days in the mountains.

He wanted to die in the mountains.

Why did you come here?

You too.

Right before he died, the man said this:

I thought I'd die alone.

But...

You stayed with me.

You understand people's hearts...

And you stay close to people...

There's no other animal like you.

Please protect him.

After seeing the man through his final moments, Tamon began traveling again.

Tamon.

Shall we go, Tamon?

Is this the place?

So this is...

The home of someone important to you?

What are you doing?

Don't worry about me.

Go, Tamon.

Go on!

This is what you've been traveling for all this time.

Don't follow me!

Go.

Go, Tamon!

- Here you go. - Thank you.

Not bad.

- It's beautiful. - It's amazing.

After that, the two of them were always together.

Hikaru never stopped smiling.

It even looked like Tamon was smiling back at him.

I don't know what would've happened if Tamon hadn't come.

Tamon saved Hikaru and us too.

Yeah. Tamon really is a gift from God.

A gift from God...

- Is she mumbling to herself? - She's smiling.

Is she okay?

I really think so too.

And meeting Leo that night, in a place like that...

I don't think that was an accident either.

Me too...

Leo helped me so many times.

What's wrong?

Ta... mon...

He's talking!

Shh.

Ta... mon...

Ta... mon...

Hikaru, what did you just say?

Mother.

Hikaru!

Thank goodness.

That's really great.

Yeah.

But wait. Why is someone who died showing up?

Because he's there.

I think you're just seeing things.

But the story didn't end there.

God was useless.

A massive earthquake struck Kumamoto.
