Meadows Embankment, Wilford Lane. Team

leader Ray is briefing Nottingham
Express Transit Revenue Protection Team.

We have a couple of updates with regards
to the gallery.

Officers are regularly on the receiving
end of anti-social behaviour.

been identified and I believe he was

arrested last night.

So it's vital they are made aware of the
status of the most serious offenders.

He is up in court this morning, so we
are waiting for further instruction and

what the outcome of that is. So I don't
think we'll be seeing him on the system.

But at the moment, we don't have any
other updates with anybody that's on

there.

A group of youths are evicted from a
tram for fare evasion.

Bodycam footage provides vital evidence
to prosecute antisocial behaviour.

an ASB report, so an antisocial

The footage from this incident will be
handed over to the police to

investigate. I do feel that as the years
have gone on, especially after Covid,

the antisocial behaviour has increased.

Not only do we check tickets, we deal
with all the antisocial behaviour.

We've had them a couple of times.

It's not acceptable and we have a
dedicated police officer in the control

room so any abuse towards staff is dealt
with by that police officer and we aim

for the highest prosecution that we can.
It's not fair on the fair paying

passengers that pay for a ticket every
day.

At the end of the day, individuals that
don't pay for the trial, it affects

their prices and the price of the
ticket.

Marilla and Yinka are at Chadwell Heath

station on the Elizabeth line.

They are in pursuit of a potential fare
dodger who is estimated to owe the

network over £2,000 in unpaid fares.

Marilla suspects the woman routinely
pays for only a portion of her journey,

a practice known as short-faring.

I found Oyster Cards.

where someone was using the card not
correctly on our services.

The person is paying from travel here to
Stratford, in Stratford using

validators, and then going somewhere
else. So I know that this person is not

leaving the services.

Using the irregular travel analysis
platform known as ITAP, Marilla is able

to track a suspect's travel pattern.

This is her pattern, okay? This is when
I was after her, on this Wednesday last

week. And she was travelling, 21-22.

So for today's case, I gathered a lot of
evidence. First of all, I found the

number of the cars on our platform, so I
got it to work. I checked her

pattern, which is very irregular, so I
needed to narrow the time.

In the morning, in the afternoon, in the
evening.

So the window for today's stop is 6
o'clock till 8.15.

With around 13,000 passengers tapping in
or out at Chadwell Heath every day,

tracking down the suspect is no easy
task.

them they were on CCTV and they were

getting the police if they did not leave
the area.

In 2025, Nottinghamshire Police received
over 20,000 reports of antisocial

behaviour across the county.

Antisocial behaviour, it's all over.

Teenagers, total lack of respect, total
lack of respect for passengers, other

passengers who pay for their tickets.

And you get these antisocial kids coming
on, causing antisocial behaviour on the

tram and just causing mayhem.

Honestly, I wish they would bring back
Borstal.

If you come up against the police or
anything at a certain age, you went in a

Borstal. Then you'd learn some manners
and some respect. And that is the sad

thing, isn't it? We are seeing it on a
daily basis.

It's just our fair paying passengers, I
feel for them. I really do. I really do

feel for the ones that are on the tram
that pay for their tickets all the time.

on a recent case on London's Elizabeth

Line.

at Chadwell Heath station.

This lady's travelling pattern was very
strong.

She was travelling from Chadwell Heath
to...

Once apprehended, suspects are invited
for an interview under caution, where

officers set out the case against them.

entering the TFL system and then when
she was exiting.

They also have an opportunity to give
their side of the story.

So at first the lady was very resistant
and didn't want to even speak to me and

she didn't want to give me much
information.

So when I asked her about the payment
for zone 1 and 2 on her...

card maybe she was using different card
and she at the end she couldn't provide

any any information for me any tickets
so everything what i showed her and she

was really amazed that it was everything
black and white she made 360 uh single

journeys that she didn't pay for which
is 2520 pounds altogether

faced with overwhelming evidence The
woman eventually admitted to avoiding

payment for the full journey she had
been making over an eight-month period.

She admitted that she was just asking
her friends to open the gate for her or

she was just double-gating behind
someone. She couldn't deny at the end

what she did, so it was literally
putting her hands up and was like, yes,

that was me, I did it.

Marilla has now filed the report with
the prosecution team.

This is the schedule of evidence, so
every single card, the name, where is

she doing, what is she doing, when did
she start, when we finished.

The IR number, the substantive journey,
and then all the evidence.

And this is summary.

CFL will now contact the suspects
regarding a court hearing.

And my job is done here.

So now every decision, every
communication now is going to be with

the prosecution and the lady.

Allowing Marilla to focus her attention
on the rest of her caseload. I do have a

few other cases that I'm working on,
cases in different stages.

It's a joint operation between BTP and
Nottinghamshire Police.

Police Sergeant Ben Adams is leading a
briefing ahead of a joint operation

between the police and the NET. The
objective is to disrupt criminality if

we target intelligence-led deployments
by BTP, Nottinghamshire Police and

partner agencies.

Part of a bi-monthly long-term strategy
to reduce fare evasion on Nottingham's

trams. Create a hostile environment for
offenders, particularly those involved

in violence, disorder or weapon-enabled
crime.

Launched partly in response to recent
high-profile criminal incidents in the

city centre.

As well as aiming to help the public
feel safe, the partnership is working to

prevent issues like antisocial
behaviour, serious violence and violence

against women and girls.

One such incident involved
machete-wielding youths confronting

another group in broad daylight.

The suspects were later filmed on the
tram lines at Old Market Square Station

in the city centre zone of the network,
the area Ray and her team are patrolling

tonight.

Tonight's operation will be focusing on
the railway station to Trenton

University. We've got officers on patrol
again.

Just watch your backs a minute. However,

Community Protection are linked into
policing.

The team get an early indication of the
mood in the city.

That was a perfect example of what we
may be up against tonight. Obviously,

that group are known to us. They are
minors, however, they are drinking.

they are out in groups tonight.

ticket and smelling of cannabis, the

police decide to do a stop and search.

The male we're currently dealing with,
we have come across on multiple

occasions, and it does appear that he is
a person of interest to the police as

well.

Having discovered a small quantity of
cannabis on the youth.

The police confiscate the drugs and
arrange for the youth's parents to

collect him from the city centre.

Wonderful, yeah, thank you. Thank you.
But not before handing him over to the

Revenue Protection Team.

So it's a £70 penalty for being on the
tram without a ticket.

One stop.

It doesn't matter if it's one stop, two
stops, it's still taking a service

without paying for it, and it's still
classifying as theft.

They're actually travelling without
paying for your journey. OK.

It's really good to have these
operations actively ongoing.

Not only does it show our fare-paying
passengers that we are being proactive

with fare evasion, but also an aspect of
safety to show that there is support and

there is a police presence with us.

Egham is one of 200 stations managed by
South Western Railway. Please have your

tickets ready for inspection.

Misuse of railcard costs rail networks
over £20 million each year in lost

When revenue inspectors believe an
offence could have been committed, they

create a travel irregularity report.
