three shops.

I feel like ours is a little bit more recognizable.

I didn't have any detail in that tattoo.

It's a little bit more dynamic than yours.

Are we not judging on the worst tattoo of the day?

Because that's what I thought I was here to do.

I feel very different since the last time I was here.

I think last time I was thrown out of my element.

Her lips, her nose, her eyes, they're scribbling.

It looks smeared.

It looks like this is on paper, and you walked in the rain to get here.

With technical tattooing like this, you are not going to make it very far in this competition.

But the thing is, I have the technical abilities.

I've been in my head this whole time, and I'm blowing it.

I am very excited to be back to show everybody that I've grown as an artist and just as a

person.

This mermaid looks like she was trapped in an oil spill.

I really like this tattoo.

The outline is weak.

There's not any real solid black.

Taking this from a technical level, you this up.

Now there's two people who know the ins and outs of the game.

This week, we are testing technical application.

Technical application is the application of the tattoo.

Smooth lines, good saturation.

I got this.

For today's flash challenge, you must tattoo some of the most fragile skin on the body, the

ear.

Tattooing the ear is the hardest only because it's nowhere near a flat surface.

You're in like a lump, a bump, a curve.

It's ridiculous.

Ain't nothing straight.

But that is not all.

You and your teammate must create matching micro tattoos on two separate canvases.

OK.

You guys will all do your own tattoos.

You have nobody to lean on but yourself.

The key word in this challenge is matching tattoos.

They need to look the same.

This is a great way to see everybody's skill.

If you have a weak link in your team, they will drag the other one down.

Win, and your shop will have the power to assign all of the human canvases for the elimination

tattoo.

The technical application on these tattoos has to be flawless.

So tell me about the idea.

A skeleton key.

They're tiny, small, little tattoos on the ear.

We are talking a white wine fading down to a red wine.

We can do that.

Any discrepancy is going to stand out.

How many lines in the music?

Five.

Six.

If these two tattooers don't tattoo exactly the same way, it's going to be hard for them to

make their tattoos look identical.

You know you can do these lines.

I can do anything.

OK.

It's just I don't do it all the time.

You are a little more familiar with traditional stuff.

Just kind of take the lead.

If somebody has more experience, we're going to follow that and just go with the best idea.

What do you think about that?

I like it.

I think that if you do the three-quarter view, that you should have a three-quarter view jaw.

I must say I'm digging the teamwork, guys.

So we had to simplify it a little bit to shrink down to this size.

My canvas, she's the one with all these stipulations.

I wonder if you should make it a little bit smaller.

If we go smaller, I'm going to probably lean towards making it solid black.

We want to keep it subtle.

So if you have a big black thing in the back.

She's calling the shots at this point.

She's making our job a lot harder.

I don't want it solid black.

Yeah, it's just like the smaller, the less detail you can get.

So ideally, we want to get it on the flat surface.

We deserve to win Master Shop because as a team, we know what we got to do for our team to

get things done.

I'm going to tattoo first, and then Dee, he'll tattoo second, just to make sure at the end

of the day, our tattoos match up seamlessly.

Now follow the bottom loop.

Those middle lines are basically, leave them like that.

Just go over those.

They're too thin.

Pretty hard to put my ego aside in a lot of things, but next to DJ, it's not hard at all.

Go way deeper, dude.

Don't be afraid.

This is absolutely not the time to set myself apart from my teammate.

We're trying to look identical.

The little tentacle's thin, and it meets the other one.

I'm getting this part because it's been bugging me.

You know what I'm talking about?

I honestly don't know if Bubba's even here at all.

I know that DJ is definitely pulling the strings in this relationship.

Maybe before you're done, we both look at them next to each other and discuss a little here,

this, and that.

I don't think we should add anything else.

We really need to win this challenge because they're testing us.

I'd be damned if I come back and not have the technical ability to win this.

Still, before you're completely done, we should check it out.

We can't make tattoos that look the same if we're not communicating.

For some reason, I thought these were going to be really painful.

This will be the time for me to separate myself from my teammate.

I said of mine a little darker than yours.

It's almost like we're competing with each other at this point.

OK, artists, it is now time to critique your work.

Try City's tattoo.

You guys definitely look like two different people did it.

Bang, you have some blowouts towards the bottom, which is probably why it got heavier, because

you were cleaning up a little.

Dave, yours was a lot cleaner.

Crisp outline, and the shape of the key was very straight.

They look like they're competing against each other, not working with each other.

Classic trilogy tattoo.

There's seven lines in there?

Six lines.

We just counted seven.

Typically, there's five.

OK.

To give yourself more lines than what there should be makes it even harder to do in a tiny

little bit of the ear.

You guys made some weird decisions.

I don't love this one.

Pins and needles.

You did a good job making them look like the same person did them.

I like the fact that every line looks deliberate.

You guys seem to hit everything directly, one shot, one pass.

Artistic skin design.

Technical application is very clean on these, but the designs look different from one ear

to the next.

You guys have been crushing it, but I think this one, you overworked yourselves.

Think before you ink.

There's more of a consistent hand on riches throughout the entire outline.

Detat, you hit a major bump in the glass.

And their minimal amount of work, which means every bit of it has to be perfect.

I did a good job in this piece.

But as a team, we're getting a back critique.

This sucks.

Old Town ink.

It's very tight, clean, crisp, very small line details.

And they both look like they have great technical application.

Similar design.

Looks like the same artist did it.

That's what we're looking for.

Killer.

Next team up is allegory art.

Technical application of both these is on par with each other.

My only nitpicky thing about it is the anatomy.

There's no forehead, and then the jaw is huge.

But I do think it is a bold tattoo.

Unkindness art.

You had a tougher road with the actual shape of the ears being so different.

Yeah, it just wraps differently because of her anatomy.

But overall, the technical application in both ears is on par with each other.

Solid teamwork.

This was a really tough challenge trying to put a dragon going up the ear, but the difference

between the two is pretty obvious.

Picasso's ears has a little bit lighter, a little scratchier look, and Lalo's ear looks a

little more punched in.

You guys are held closest to the fire on this.

Show up, or you're going to be right back out.

We arguably had the hardest challenge of the day.

I don't think it looks scratchy at all.

Some bull .

I was looking to get, like, a gothic-themed angel.

That's just not the challenge.

The stencil keeps wiping off.

I'm melting down.

Today, we're testing technical application and the return of Picasso and Lalo.

This is one of the big stinkers of the day.

Certainly doesn't look like the same artist did those.

Lalo and Picasso didn't hit the mark on technical application.

Of the day, who stands out to you?

They have some of the strongest application.

The big part of this challenge today is doing two tattoos that look the same, and they definitely

accomplished that.

Let's talk about Old Town.

They obviously have strong, tiny detail abilities.

Very clean, line work only, smart decisions, legible.

And they both look the same.

Welcome to the elimination tattoo.

Based on your work, one shop will lose their shot at $200,000 and the first ever title of

master shop.

Lalo and Picasso, as the veteran artists, it's on your shop to prove that you deserve to be

here by overcoming your weaknesses.

And in their honor, you'll all be judged on technical application.

Today, you must tattoo a black and gray cherub.

There it is.

All around, cherubs are not easy to tattoo.

They have little fingers.

They have little noses.

They have little eyes.

They have little cheeks.

And your application has to be solid.

Otherwise, this cherub is going to be looking real weird.

For this elimination tattoo, you and your teammate must each tattoo a cherub on the same canvas

at the same time.

This is going to be a tug of war.

He's going to be pulling.

I'm going to be pulling.

It's going to be insane.

Today, you're doing your own tattoo.

The catch is both tattoos have to look like the same person did them.

So this is where we're really going to test who can do what.

Remember, you're a team.

You guys don't want to bump each other off, but you also don't want to dumb yourself down

to end up in the bottom.

You're on your own, but you're together.

Remember, after every elimination tattoo, all of you will form the jury of peers.

You'll deliberate and choose one shop to put up for elimination.

There's people here that are strong at one style and not strong at the others.

I want to see everyone's weaknesses exposed.

A praying cherub on my arm and my back.

I was pretty set on the back of the arm.

Those are two areas that cannot be tattooed at the same time.

Unless you can remove your arm, that's the nightmare piece.

Cherubs playing hide and seek, and cherubs wrestling.

So Thorish boy cherubs.

Jeez.

Let's just put the Sistine Chapel full of cherubs on your arm, and we'll just call it a day.

Evil cherub on my left chest and a good cherub on my right chest.

Chest is one of the most painful places to tattoo at the same time.

Two Gothic angels, one on my shoulder, one on my lower back.

It'd be hard to do.

This is a cherub challenge, not angel challenge.

These ideas are horrible.

I don't want to do too much of the baby face to it.

That's just not the challenge.

I personally don't tattoo a ton of black and gray tattoos, and Dane does, so I'm just going

to pick his brain while we're sitting there.

Your olive branch is way bigger than mine.

Maybe just, like, have him fan out, like, wider as they go.

It's really difficult to make two tattoos look like one person did them.

If I'm moving the table or anything, tell me.

Overall, the designs are nice.

Technical applications on par.

Picasso, I think your biggest problem in a tattoo is the face.

He's got a cross-eyed look, his nose is crooked, and you just put a little hard beak on him.

I follow my reference, but I do see what you're saying.

But I would say from the last time we saw both of you in this competition, this is much more

consistent line work and much cleaner.

It's pretty good.

Tri-Cities Tattoo.

Looking at both the tattoos,

It looks like one person did it because both of you have incredibly hard times outlining.

Bang the back of your inside leg and that huge, crazy line you tried to clean up, you have

to do it in one pass.

Dave, your outline is very blown out.

The skull and the hand and then the hair.

This collarbone area is just a really tough area.

That is nothing but a technical application issue.

Technically, both of you show a lot of really nice application.

DJ, I love the position.

I love the pose.

I love the elements.

And the way you shaded the tattoo looks like it's supposed to look.

Well, a couple of things get away from you.

You definitely aged a kid a little bit.

You definitely sunk his eyes in a little bit.

You've got to stay soft.

I don't think these look like the same artist did them.

Think before you ink.

Well, guys, there's an obvious divide here.

Rich, your tattoo's a lot smoother.

You have a lot cleaner outline.

and a lot smoother shading.

Your tattoo quality definitely progressed from when you were here.

D-tat, yours shows a big variance from Rich's as far as application goes.

You have a lot of shaky lines.

The tips of the fingers are blacker than the line coming down.

There is a way to pull a really clean line, and you're missing it on this.

The eye on the right of the screen is going crazy.

You made the tear duct too big.

This is not what we've seen from you so far.

You two are the two that work the best together and seemingly the worst apart.

You couldn't be further apart on design and tattoo.

The dynamics of the characters that Tom drew versus the dynamics of the characters Derek drew

are totally different.

Look at the hands, look at the noses, look at the mouths, look at the bodies.

The whole challenge here is working off of each other.

In that category, you guys hit bottom.

You have to operate as one.

Pins and needles.

These do not look like the same person did them at all.

I have to say it, Allison, you killed it.

You blew her out of the water.

You've got a beautiful, childlike, cherub face, best eyes in the room.

Jesse, really rough shading here.

The hand holding the scale, it just looks like you shaded over it where you were shading the

wing.

This is where we start to see the divide in the room.

You're going to have to work more as a team.

I love the interaction of these two characters from one leg to the next.

The designs were dynamic, the layout was dynamic, but it's pretty apparent that Erin's tattoo

is a lot nicer.

I think I'm about half amount of experience tattooing as she is, and so I was trying to catch

up to the tricks that she knows.

You have a big separation from where the eye goes to the bridge of the nose, and the forehead

protrudes forward, so it's throwing the design off.

Erin, yours is beautiful.

The face, the gestures, this really detailed, fine line, wings, the beautiful hair that you

did.

Allegory Arts.

I do love the illustration.

The way they work together as a design is great.

Getting right into the rough side of it, both outlines, really rough.

Euless, your side, that back leg, those ripples and wobbles and the nervousness of those lines

make the leg pretty misshapen.

Eva's outline looks a little heavier and bolder, but also has quite a few areas of blowouts

around the top.

Yeah, that skin can be really tricky.

That's technical application.

That's a mishap today, big time.

The strongest pairs might be unkindness and pins and needles, even though one's way stronger

than the other.

I'm going to go on what I think is the best tattoo of the day.

April's tattoo is the worst tattoo of the day.

They also said that they're being a lot harder on us because we don't suck as much as you

I think a perfect example is made Rich.

His shading in the tattoo is really nice, but Rich will end up sinking because his teammate

can't swim.

But also, Allegory Arts was pretty challenged.

Everything from the halo to the line work.

And they're rivaling Tri-City on blowouts.

And it's obvious that Dave is a little bit stronger, but still has problems.

It's going to be interesting to see how the jury of peers is going to vote here.

D-Tat, your tattoo, is one of the bottom tattoos of the day.

The shading is not smooth like Rich's is.

It's a pretty large gap.

I think the flaws that we have in our tattoos are very minimal compared to the other two.

Blowouts live on the bottom, period, no matter who you are.

There was a lot more blowouts in those tattoos.

No, there's not.

You can see a blowout in the top of the Tatstar's halo.

The hell out of here.

And it's filled with solid black around.

Y'all got two bad tattoos.

Honestly, guys, I don't find these two tattoos amazing.

Y'all were less challenged in the design, but technically, you jacked them up.

No one's brought up Tri-Cities tattoos.

Tri-Cities has equal amount of blowouts.

Bang's legs almost connect on a blowout.

There's blue bruising.

You've already had previous critiques and other tattoos about technical application.

Today was the day to really hone in on it and not show us those mistakes.

We got caught up trying to, like, match our tattoo aesthetically, and that ended up being

why I had those blowout issues.

The most appealing imagery is allegory art.

The more consistent application between two artists also is allegory art.

In my mind, allegory is safe.

The best single application out of all four of these tattoos is made rich.

Riches is better than D-Tats, but then if you go to Tri-Cities, there's application problems

on both sides of the fence.
