believes supernatural
spirits have

been tormenting him,
from poltergeist activity

after me, and there's a lot
of bad ones and good ones,

and they're all fighting
with each other.

ROBERT STACK: Could the spirits
be vying for this boy's soul?

wanted by federal authorities.

join him as he fled,

Vinita, Oklahoma, a small
rural town in Craig County,

December 29, 1999--

Ashley Freeman turned sweet 16.

At her home, it is a night of
celebration for her parents

and for her best
friend Laura Biden.

Laura, she said
to me, daddy, is it

all right if I spend
the night with Ashley

to the Freeman's home?

I said, well, if you just
make sure you're home

by noon tomorrow, you know?

And noon tomorrow didn't
happen the way it should've.

ROBERT STACK: Sometime
during the night,

the Freeman's home
becomes an inferno.

By 8:00 AM, when
Laura's parents arrived,

the fire is extinguished.

But the Freeman's home
has been reduced to ashes.

There's her car.

ROBERT STACK: Laura's car
is on the charred property,

but there is no sign
of their daughter.

Jay and Lorene Bible
feared the worst.

We did find one body--

Who?

But it's not Laura.

The county coroner told
me that there was only

one body is all they found.

I said, have they
found anybody else?

And she said, no.

I said, did they look?

And she said, yes, we've
looked, but there's

no other bodies there.

ROBERT STACK: The lone body
discovered in the debris

is that of Kathy
Freeman, the mother

of Laura's friend, Ashley.

The Craig County
Sheriff's Department

and the Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation are perplexed.

Where are Ashley, her father,
Danny, and Laura Bible?

We only had one body accounted
for, could find no others,

yet we had all the cars
there at the house.

That was a little bit bizarre,
and no one could quite piece

two and two together on that.

It didn't make any sense.

We was just kind of
wondering where they could be.

I mean, we didn't know.

We didn't have a clue
what had happened.

Couldn't even come
up with a good idea

as to what might have happened.

One person dead
and three missing.

The case became
even more baffling

when the coroner
determined Kathy

Freeman died not in the fire,
but from a shotgun wound

to the head.

The arson squad concluded the
blaze was deliberately set.

Authorities speculated
Kathy might have been

killed by her husband,
Danny, who then

fled, taking the girls hostage.

But there would be other
suspects, including

the investigators themselves.

Even the two missing girls
were not above suspicion.

ROBERT STACK: Laura
Bible and Ashley Freeman

were inseparable friends
since kindergarten.

Both were honor students
and the popular at school.

Even when one ventured
her own separate way,

there was the other,
cheering her on.

Laura and Ashley call each
other at least once a week,

if not more.

What one was thinking
the other was thinking.

It's kind of like
when two people--

one can finish a sentence
when the other one starts one.

ROBERT STACK: The day after the
fire, Laura's parents returned

to what is now a crime scene.

They hope to find a clue the
investigators had missed.

After searching
only five minutes,

Jay Bible made a
shocking discovery.

Oh, no.

Oh, Lori, come here, quick!

ROBERT STACK: A body, burned
almost beyond recognition.

The Bibles quickly determined,
however, it was neither Laura

nor Ashley, but an adult male.

There was no face there.

He did not have anything
from the upper teeth

all the way to the
top of his head.

It was totally gone, like
he'd been shot in the face.

We just couldn't believe
that they had overlooked

a second body in this fire.

ROBERT STACK: The body was
identified as Danny Freeman,

Ashley's father, who
investigators had initially

believed murdered his wife.

Like Kathy, he had been shot
at close range with a shotgun.

Investigators reexamined
the crime scene,

but no additional
bodies were found.

The new search, however,
yielded one important clue.

Laura's purse, which
contained her driver's license

and nearly $200 in cash.

What reason would
Laura have to leave

it behind, unless she had been
taken away against her will?

I felt that's
somebody had went

in there for whatever reason,
murdered Danny and Kathy,

and took the girls.

ROBERT STACK: If Laura
and Ashley were abducted,

who took them, and why?

The Craig County
Sheriff's Department

tried to piece
together what happened

the night of Ashley's birthday.

Her boyfriend who
attended the party

said that all was well when
it broke up at 9:30 PM.

Whatever occurred must
have begun sometime

after he left at that hour.

At first, investigators
believe a robbery

may have turned deadly.

But the cash left
behind in Laura's purse

eliminated that possibility.

If murder alone was
the intruder's intent,

who in Vinita, Oklahoma
had reason to kill

Danny and Kathy Freeman?

One shocking possibility was
voiced by Danny Freeman himself

three months before
he was killed.

He told his brother, Dwayne--

Listen, Dwayne, if anything
should ever happen to me,

I want you to take a look
at the sheriff's office.

Sheriff, Hear why?

He and I was at his house, and
he put his finger in my face,

and he said, if anything
ever happens to me,

look at the
sheriff's department.

And he was serious.

He was in my face to
drive it home with me.

ROBERT STACK: For months, it
had been rumored in Vinita

that the Craig County
Sheriff's Department had

been feuding with the Freemans.

It began when Danny's son,
Shane, was shot and killed

by a deputy after he had stolen
a truck and a neighbor's gun.

Although Shane's killing
was ruled justifiable,

the Freemans threatened
to filed a wrongful death

lawsuit against the
sheriff's department.

According to some in
Vinita, the Freemans'

accusations provoked
deputies to embark

on a campaign of intimidation.

Get out of the truck, Danny.

What is this about?

This is about you
looking all over town--

He was basically told,
according to Danny,

that they could do
anything they wanted to

to him and his family,
and there wasn't

a thing he could do about it.

You're taking yourself
out of the investigation?

ROBERT STACK: When Danny and
his wife were found dead,

the Craig County Sheriff's
Department voluntarily

turned the case
over to the Oklahoma

State Bureau of Investigation.

Because it was of such
a concern to the residents

of the area, we looked
into the possibility

that deputies could have
been involved with the deaths

of Danny and Kathy Freeman.

We utilized several techniques,
one of which was polygraph.

All consented to the
polygraph examinations,

and all cleared themselves as
a result of those examinations.

The overall conclusion
of our efforts

was that the sheriff's
office had nothing

to do with the murders
of Danny and Kathy,

and did not know the whereabouts
of the two missing girls.

ROBERT STACK: The hint
of another possibility

occurred two weeks
before the murders.

According to an
informant, Danny Freeman

met two unidentified men, one
of whom was clearly unwelcome.

What's he doing here?

We just got some things we
want to talk to you about.

ROBERT STACK: Rumors in Vinita
had spread that Danny was

a small time drug trafficker.

I'm not dealing
with you while he's

here, so you can just take off.

ROBERT STACK: Could a
drug deal gone bad have

resulted in a double murder?

If you wanted to consider
that it was drug related

and that someone, for revenge
purposes, entered the home,

killed the mother and father
and abducted the children,

and nothing fits correctly.

In that type of scenario,
the very last thing

that the people who committed
to murder would want to do

would be abduct the children.

ROBERT STACK: A disturbing
possibility remained.

Could Ashley Freeman herself
have murdered her parents,

then fled with Laura?

I believe that
the Freeman girl

could possibly be involved.

I believe that there is a great
deal of friction in the Freeman

household because of reports
that Danny and his daughter

did not get along well at
all and hadn't for some time.

That's something
we can't overlook.

Ashley Freeman might have
something to do with the death

of Danny and Kathy.

However, it's been 15
months since the incident.

I find it difficult to
believe that the girls,

by themselves, could hide out
that long and not be found.

ROBERT STACK: Today,
Jay and Lorene Bible

are left with only unanswered
questions and the void

of their daughter's absence.

We have come to the
conclusion that Laura

was in the wrong place
at the wrong time.

I do feel that
she's still alive,

but whether she's alive
or dead, I want to know.

She put up the Christmas
tree and we still

have that Christmas tree
standing in the house.

We haven't taken it down.

You know, we love her dearly
and wish we could have her back,

wish we can have both girls
back, because at this point,

I'd take them and raise them
both and never let them go.

ROBERT STACK: Jamaica, a
picturesque Caribbean island

known for its sun drenched
beaches, crystal clear waters,

and all inclusive
resorts, the kind of place

where people come to
live out their dreams.

But what if visiting
the Jamaican paradise

turned into a nightmare?

In May 2000, New York based
travel writers Claudia

Kirschhoch and Tania Grossinger
found themselves stranded

on Jamaica when their
business trip to Havana, Cuba

was suddenly canceled.

When we found out that
we weren't going to Cuba

we were really, really upset.

I had assignments.

Claudia was there on work.

We were also concerned
because when they told us

we couldn't go,
they also told us we

couldn't get back to New York.

ROBERT STACK: Just prior to
her trip to the Caribbean,

Claudia Kirschhoch had
landed a job as an editor

at "Frommer's Travel Guides."

For someone who had a passion
for travel and adventure

it was a dream come true.

But tragically, this was
destined to be the final trip

taken by Claudia.

While awaiting her
return to the US,

the savvy and experienced
29-year-old traveler

vanished without a trace
and has yet to make it home.

Let's put one up here, OK?

ROBERT STACK: Claudia's parents,
Fred and Mary Ann Kirschhoch,

rushed to Negril,
Jamaica as soon as they

learned of her disappearance.

When we found out
she was missing,

we knew that there was
a definite problem.

Knowing her, knowing that
she called frequently,

knowing that she would have told
us there was a change of plans,

we knew there was something
drastically wrong.

Fred and Mary Ann
Kirschhoch were not

prepared for the hurdles they
would encounter in trying

to learn Claudia's fate.

But coming to grips with their
daughter's dire situation,

they would have to deal with
Jamaican red tape, false leads,

and lost or missing clues.

And in the end,
conflicting theories

would emerge to explain what
happened to Claudia Kirschhoch.

ROBERT STACK: Sandals
Resorts has sponsored

Claudia Kirschhoch and Tania
Grossinger's original press

trip to Havana, Cuba.

When the trip was
canceled without warning,

a chain put them up at the
resort in Negril, Jamaica

until return flights could
be booked back to New York.

In the mean time,
the two women who'd

only met for the first
time on this trip

decided to make the
best of being in limbo.

So ladies, where
you come from?

We're from New York.

ROBERT STACK: Claudia made
friends with Anthony Grant,

one of the resort's bartenders.

She was a big fan
of reggae music.

Grant reportedly offered to
take her to a nearby club.

This looks like fun.

The next morning, she told
me that she had gone out

with one of the bartenders, who
turns out to be Anthony Grant.

She told me that
they went to a club,

that they smoked some dope, and
that they went skinny dipping.

It didn't seem to be a
remarkable experience for her.

I mean, it was just
something that she did.

You know, the situation
is, in retrospect, I

wish I could remember
everything she said,

but in fact, it wasn't such
a big deal to her or to me.

OK, so you remember
the bar tender--

ROBERT STACK: Tania Grossinger
managed to book a flight

home sooner than Claudia.

She expected her travel
companion would follow shortly.

They agreed to meet
up in New York City

once Claudia returned
to her job there.

But later that afternoon,
Claudia Kirschhoch mysteriously

vanished from the island.

CLAUDIA KIRSCHHOCH:
You think I'm

going to be able
to find somebody

that can braid my hair just
up the way there a little bit?

ROBERT STACK: She was reportedly
last seen by a lifeguard,

walking along a Negril
beach away from the resort.

She didn't?

ROBERT STACK: On June
2, Claudia's parents

were notified that she
hadn't shown up for work

in New York as scheduled.

Fred and Mary Ann Kirschhoch
had an unsettling feeling

when they finally reached
someone at the Jamaican resort.

Call her mother.

ROBERT STACK: Hotel maids
had reported Claudia

missing after noticing
she had not slept

in her bed for several days.

Nothing in her
room seemed amiss.

Every item of her clothing,
except for one bathing suit,

was neatly packed
away in her suitcase.

Her passport, credit cards,
cell phone, and $180 in cash

were recovered from the hotel
safe where she left them.

Probably the most
devastating piece of news,

initially, was that all of her
belongings were in her room.

I mean, we would rather have
heard that some of her things

were missing and then
we would have thought

maybe she went somewhere else.

Well, we heard the
news that Claudia's

things were all in her room and
they didn't know where she was.

It's not-- that's not Claudia.

Claudia's a really
organized, orderly person.

If she was planning
to go off somewhere,

she would have
made a phone call.

She would have let us know.

We felt very early on that
something happened to her

and that something
just was not right.

ROBERT STACK: As soon as they
found Claudia was missing,

the Kirschhochs
hurried to Jamaica.

Good afternoon.

I wonder if you could tell me
if you've seen my daughter.

ROBERT STACK: Once in Negril,
the Kirschhochs' attempts

to find out what happened
to their daughter

were repeatedly
dashed by frustration,

beginning with the resort that
had sponsored Claudia's trip.

As a security precaution,
the license plates

of all vehicles entering and
leaving the Sandals Resort

are meticulously
recorded in a log book.

The log book for the
month that Claudia

disappeared cannot be found.

The videotape from a
surveillance camera

mounted near Claudia's
room was recorded

over before being viewed.

Room 621, the room
where Claudia stayed,

was cleared by housekeeping
and hotel security

before the potential crime
scene was processed for clues.

Without any evidence
of foul play,

Jamaican authorities focused
on other possibilities.

Because she was last
seen on the beach,

and because a bathing suit was
the only item of clothing known

to be missing from
her belongings,

Jamaican police
investigated the possibility

that Claudia had drowned.

It's not impossible, but I
would say it's highly unlikely.

That area, it's not deep.

And the current is
not very strong.

And if something should go
wrong with someone there,

the body would be found easily.

ROBERT STACK: As news of
Claudia's disappearance

spread through Jamaica,
numerous sightings

of a woman fitting
Claudia's description

began to suggest
another possibility.

Many local Negril
residents believe

that Claudia was alive and had
intentionally gone into hiding.

The local phrase
"broken loose" was

used to describe how
she may have chosen

to run away from her own
life to live in the hills

with a Jamaican lover.

We know she wouldn't do that.

She had no reason to
escape, as has been said.

She loved her life,
you know, her family,

her friends, her new apartment.

Everything was
going right for her.

So there was nothing to escape.

So we got a call that Claudia
went off with a rastaman

in some hills in Jamaica.

We have checked several areas.

We have spoken to a
number of rastafarians.

In fact, we have gone to an area
where the report said she was,

and there is no information to
suggest that Claudia Kirschhoch

was ever seen in that area.

If you ever see her or hear
anybody say anything about her,

you know how to find me.

Where did she go?

Show me.

ROBERT STACK: Frustrated by the
progress of the investigation,

Claudia's parents
enlisted the assistance

of the FBI and an American
Search and Rescue team.

According to Harry
Oaks, he and his dog,

Valerie, tracked Claudia's scent
to the home of Anthony Grant,

the Sandals Resort bartender
Claudia had befriended.

The dog reportedly hit on a
pair of boots, a pair of gloves,

and a knife.
- Bingo.

ROBERT STACK: While
searching Grant's car,

Valerie seemed to also hit
on Claudia Kirschhoch's scent

in the back seat and the trunk.

The articles found, boots,
knife, material that made up

the trunk of the car,
was removed by the FBI

Evidence Response Team.

It was taken to the FBI forensic
laboratory in the states.

It was checked for
signs of human blood.

Nothing was found.

ROBERT STACK: Anthony Grant was
investigated and polygraphed,

but the results were
deemed inconclusive.

And at this point, Grant is not
considered a suspect in Claudia

Kirschhoch's disappearance.

We interviewed him
for several weeks.

We just don't find enough
evidence to, in any way,

believe that Grant is
involved in her disappearance,

other than that he was
associated with her.

No one disappears
from the face

of the Earth in a
town of 3,000 people

without one other
person knowing it.

We do believe that Anthony
Grant, the bartender,

introduced her to
someone who has a much

better idea of what happened.

We believe Anthony
Grant probably

knows something as well.

ROBERT STACK: Today,
the Kirschhochs

struggle to keep the
search for Claudia alive,

despite dwindling leads
and diminishing support.

We're not left with
many good theories.

You know, all of
them, all of them

are bad in some way or another.

The hardest part daily
is Claudia's absence,

and knowing we may never
see or hear of her again.

I mean, it's very easy to curl
up and either stay in your bed

and just not go on
with life, you know,

but we've got to find out
what happened to Claudia,

and we're just going to
keep digging and looking.

ROBERT STACK: The last apparent
sighting of Claudia Kirschhoch

was on May 27, 2000,
near the Beaches

Resort in Negril, Jamaica.

In this day and age, it may be
hard to believe that there are

people who claim ghosts
haunt their homes

and demons possess them.

But this quiet colonial
house in Connecticut

is said to be just such a
place, and the Jones family

who live here say
they had no warning

of the ghostly incidence
they claim have occurred.

MICHAEL: [scream] Mom!

MOM JONES: I ran upstairs.

Michael.

MOM JONES: I thought
maybe he had cut himself.

I really didn't know.

Michael?

And there was Michael just
curled up, like it was a fetus.

I mean, he was just
frightened and shaking

and crying
hysterically, something

I've never seen him do.

ROBERT STACK: Michael Jones
told his mother, Denise,

he saw a man in the room.

But it was no ordinary man.

Told him I was scared.

He was standing in front of
me and he reached out to me

and he was smiling.

And then he just disappeared.

The man-- he
touched my shoulder.

He was white, like
a crayon color white.

He was a ghost.

He said he was a ghost.

Well, I thought
maybe something

was wrong with Michael.

I can't say I didn't
believe in ghosts,

I just never
experienced something.

So I never thought it
would happen to us.

Michael Jones was
just five years old when

he says he saw his first ghost.

He claims the spirits have
continued to invade his home

and torment his family.

Do ghosts haunt
the Jones' house,

or could there be
another explanation

for the extraordinary
occurrences

Michael has experienced?

Soon after Michael's
episode in his bedroom,

Denise drove her family to
her parent's nearby home.

I was in the kitchen
talking with my parents

when Michael started
screaming again.

Mom!

What?

Look!

What's wrong?

And he says, that's the man.

That's the man.

I says, Michael,
what is the man?

He says, that man up on
the wall in the picture,

that's the man I see.

It's the old man.

I saw the picture and I
got scared because that was

the man that, um, that I saw.

The man in the picture
Michael was pointing to

was my grandfather
who had passed

away when I was 10 years old.

Michael had never met him.

ROBERT STACK:
Until that evening,

Michael had never seen a picture
of his great grandfather, who

had been dead over 17 years.

I felt safer that it
wasn't like a bad person

that was going to hurt me.

And my mom said not be afraid of
him because he was a good man,

and she said not to
be afraid of ghosts

because they can't harm me.

ROBERT STACK: At
this point, Denise

didn't know what to think.

Her son was supposedly being
visited by her grandfather's

ghost, and that wasn't all.

Michael now believed
evil spirits

were also invading the home.

One time, me and
Michael were in his room

and I asked him what these
things wanted from him.

And I told him to
talk to grandpa.

Grandpa will protect him.

Grandpa said that
some of the bad people

want me on their side.

When I talk to
my grandpa, he just

said that there's a lot
of ghosts in our house

that are after me, and there's
a lot of bad ones and good ones,

and they're all fighting
with each other.

ROBERT STACK: By now, they were
convinced the invisible enemies

were multiplying.

So Denise sought out a
paranormal specialist

to examine both
Michael and her home.

It's very important to be
able to go in and determine

that it is something
supernatural

that is occurring in the home.

ROBERT STACK: John Zaffis has
been a paranormal investigator

for 26 years.

He has studied dozens
of similar cases.

Zaffis spent hundreds of hours
with Michael and his family,

researching Michael's
sightings firsthand.

We usually have to
go through all types

of different evaluations,
psychological, physical.

I really would like it
documented and known

that there isn't
anything physically

or mentally wrong
with these people

that are going through this.

ROBERT STACK: Hoping to get some
answers for the strange goings

on, Denise says she
submitted Michael to dozens

of neurological evaluations.

We went to the hospital a lot.

I had CAT scans and EEG, but
they said everything was fine.

They all say it's not medical.

They realize it's very bizarre
that Michael is a ghost boy.

He sees ghosts.

And there's nothing
medically they can do.

ROBERT STACK: Michael's
psychological profile

also showed nothing unusual.

But his drawings
of what he claims

to be the most aggressive
ghost, whom he calls the Black

Shadow Man, told another story.

Every day I'd see
him, the Shadow Man.

It's not really the
same shadow man.

It's just like a bunch
of different ones.

I don't know why I see
ghosts and all this

is happening to me.

ROBERT STACK: Zaffis's
research uncovered that Michael

was very ill at birth.

His heart had stopped 26 times.

With Michael, my
explanation is that

he had near-death experiences.

I believe since birth he's had
that ability where that door

has been open for the spirit
to be able to communicate

back and forth with him.

At this point, Michael
is more under oppression.

Oppression is the stage
before possession.

And I think it is
at the point where

it is trying very, very
hard to be able to totally

take Michael over.

ROBERT STACK:
According to Denise,

it seemed the bad
spirits were winning.

One time me and
my husband were

downstairs, when all
of a sudden we were

listening to banging upstairs.

We heard him
scream and we heard

a thumping, so we ran upstairs.

And Michael was on his bed
like a little boy, scared.

His bed was shaking up and down.

The bed started shaking a lot,
and it lifted up like 3 inches,

and I just yelled for my mom.

Mom!

And then it dropped
and it stop shaking.

We all ran out of the
house because we needed

to get a break from
the house, because it's

very scary in there.

There was one
time when I walked

into Michael's room something
caught my peripheral vision.

I saw this shadow, and he just
walked right across the wall.

I asked her, I
said, is it six feet?

And she said, yeah.

And I said, is it
just all black?

She said, yeah, and I told that
was the man I've been seeing.

ROBERT STACK: Denise
said Michael later

revealed that the evil spirits
were physically tormenting him.

Everything started
getting worse

and they started hitting me and
scratching me and poking me.

And it hurt.

Usually when there's a
physical manifestation,

scratches, bite marks,
this is definitely a sign

that something is either
attached to that individual

or it has some
way gained access.

And at that point is where
it could be very, very

vulnerable where
that person could

go completely under possession.

ROBERT STACK: To save her
son from the intruders,

Denise says she sold
her home and moved

the family across town.

But the new house was no refuge.

I was on the phone
with my mother.

Michael was sitting right
next to me, to my left,

watching TV, when all of a
sudden, he started screaming.

We just looked at my
brother, and we just

saw like a scrape going
all the way up his arm,

like it was drawing blood.

I felt a sharp pain, like a
knife, but it hurt really bad.

That was very horrifying.

I mean, it was almost
like I was on top

of him trying to
protect him, and I

still could not protect my son.

After this incident, we needed
someone who dealt with this.

And I was able to
find the bishop, who

agreed to give it the exorcism.

ROBERT STACK: As frightening
as an exorcism sounded,

Denise felt it was the
only way to save Michael.

They started performing
the exorcism in Latin.

I could tell there was
something wrong with Michael.

He kept looking to one
side of the church.

And I saw the shadow man
in the front left corner

of the room of the
church, and I could

see his whole body and his
feet, and he was just standing,

and he was all black.

And my stomach started
burning, and I told the priest,

and he gave me a cup of holy
water and said, drink this.

I was praying to God that
it was going to work and help,

and that Michael might
be granted some relief.

Although we were told it
might not be the end all,

it might have to
be repeated, there

may need to be a house
exorcism, we were aware of that.

And they were right,
because about three

weeks later it all began again.

ROBERT STACK: To
this day, very little

has changed at the
Jones' household.

Over the past few years, Michael
has undergone four exorcisms,

and his family has
moved eight times.

Although these things always
seem to provide relief,

it is usually temporary.

Today Michael still
has negative attacks,

and he also sees spirits.

We just live one day at a time.

It hurts when I see my
son going through this.

I don't know what to do.

Do I see a brighter future
for Michael and the family?

Absolutely.

There's many of families
that go through this

and it's very
difficult. And it's

like the old saying
goes, it's always

Pretty much everything's
been hard for me.

So everything that's
happened has been hard.

And I'm getting used to it.

ROBERT STACK: Nadine
Jelovcic is worried

about her sister, Margie.

Without explanation,
Margie has abruptly

left her home in Gary, Indiana.

I was looking for clues.

Did she write something down?

Did she leave something
that I could pick up on

to know that she would return?

I looked in the closets.

Luggage was there, clothes
were there, all of her things,

so whatever she
left with, it had

to be just enough
for a few days,

not enough to be for
a long period of time.

Nadine is puzzled to find
many personal items Margie never

leaves behind when she travels,
but the most baffling of all

is Margie's inhaler, which
she needs for her asthma.

Wherever she has gone, she has
not traveled there in her car.

Her family is as perplexed
as they are worried.

Did Margie Jelovcic suddenly
leave of her own free will,

or was she the
victim of foul play?

Over the previous
year, Margie's life

had been turned upside down by
a series of turbulent events.

Her puzzling disappearance
may be the final result

of that turmoil.

Margie's sister,
Nadine, suspected

she was in hiding with a
dangerous fugitive named

Randy Yager.

How she became involved
with such a man

is a story as unlikely
as it is tragic.

Six months before
her disappearance,

Margie's life seemed ideal.

She was fulfilling her dream
as a musician, playing violin

in the Detroit Orchestra.

She was also a happy newlywed,
planning a bright future

with her husband Nasser.

But just six months
after their wedding,

he was killed in a
traffic accident.

Margie was shattered.

She decided to quit her
job in the orchestra,

leave Michigan, and moved back
to her hometown, Gary, Indiana.

There she sought the
security she had always found

with her mother and sister.

It was really hard for
her, because she was so used

to being in Michigan with
all her friends, school,

and work and everything.

It was really,
really hard on her.

She spent a lot of time crying
and trying to decide what

to do, and she insisted
to come back and help

my mom with the business.

ROBERT STACK: Margie
coped with her despair

by immersing herself
in her new job.

She managed the night shift at
the tavern owned by her mother.

There she first
encountered Randy Yager.

What's your name?

I haven't seen you here before.

My name's Margie.

Margie, how do you do?

My name's Randy.

Randy was one of the
highest ranking members

of a notorious biker
gang called the Outlaws.

He possessed an allure
tailor-made to charm

a vulnerable young widow.

I think that he complimented
her in ways that she needed

to be complimented, and
she needed, perhaps,

those accolades that
made her feel good.

And he knew how to say the
right things to charm her,

and she in turn
was charmed by him.

Well, you should hook
up with us sometime.

I mean, meet a
lot of new people,

go out have a good time.

Maybe.

ROBERT STACK: Randy's
charisma masked a darker side

to his personality.

Margie had no idea
he was an ex-convict

with a long criminal record.

His apt nickname was Mad.

He and other members
of the Outlaws

were then under
federal investigation

for racketeering, drug
dealing, and murder.

Two of the Outlaw members
murdered this old couple

because they had a lot of
money inside their house,

and actually stabbed them with a
screwdriver through the throat.

I mean, these are bad
people that do that.

ROBERT STACK: Soon after they
met, Margie began dating Yager.

Margie was a
good girl, for lack

of a better term,
who seems to have

taken a walk on the wild side.

This is uncharacteristic
from what I've learned of her

through interviews and stuff.

ROBERT STACK: At
what point she became

aware of his
criminal activities,

her family does not know.

The only thing they
knew for certain

was that Margie began to change.

NADINE JELOVCIC DEREK: She
became extremely distant.

How about I make
you some coffee?

No, I got to go.

You sure?

She became distant
with me and my children,

and distant with the customers.

And I don't know whether
she was told to be distant,

to not to speak, or she
just totally started

to remove herself from society.

ROBERT STACK: Three months
into her relationship

with Yager, Margie left with
him on a trip to Las Vegas.

They were unaware that
at that very moment,

United States marshals
had begun an operation

to arrest Randy and several
members of the Outlaws.

48 hours later, news
of the operation

reached Margie's mother.

17 members of the Outlaws were
indicted for a Midwest crime

spree, that included bombings,
robberies, and six murders,

but US marshals had been
unable to locate Randy Yager.

I saw the pictures and I
said, oh my god, my daughter

went with that man, you know?

Oh my god, what's going
to happen to her now?

ROBERT STACK: Federal
agents rapidly

tracked Yager to Las Vegas.

But it was too late.

He and Margie had
apparently fled the city.

The first thing
I could think of

was, was he going to hurt her?

Was she going to
be in harm's way

because she's with this guy
who now everyone in the country

is looking for,
and she's with him.

And what if by mistake they
find him and they hurt her?

ROBERT STACK: Two weeks passed.

Then Margie returned to
Gary safe but shaken.

Strangely, her devotion to
Yager was stronger than ever.

According to her
family, she was consumed

by irrational fears of the
authorities pursuing him.

Is everything all right?

Yeah, everything's fine, mom.

Do you want to talk?

No, I don't want to talk.

She felt that they would
try and find him through her.

She was led to believe that
her apartment was bugged,

that people were following
her in her parking lot.

She had an extreme paranoia.

And I said, Marge, what
should you be paranoid about?

Nobody's after you.

You've not done a thing.

ROBERT STACK: Three
months after her return,

Margie mysteriously disappeared.

At first it just seemed
that she had run off

and joined Yager
wherever he was at.

But upon investigation,
we found out

that she had taken
none of her clothes,

her car, or anything else.

It just seemed
that she was gone.

We're really not sure
what happened there.

ROBERT STACK: Did
Margie willingly

join her fugitive
boyfriend, or could

something more sinister explain
her abrupt disappearance?

Margie's family believes
that even if she

is with Randy Yager,
she is no longer

his girlfriend, but his victim.

I feel that he
is holding her back

and he won't let her communicate
her family, and at this point

he's brainwashed her.

Because this is so out
of character for Margie

not to make a phone call to us.

ROBERT STACK: It is possible,
however, that Margie

has attempted to do just that.

Hello?

ROBERT STACK: Over
the past four years,

her mother has fielded
several mysterious calls,

all in the morning
before her tavern opens.

The caller never speaks,
and only after a long pause,

hangs up.

For Margie's family,
the baffling calls

offer the slender hope that
they will one day see her again.

I want Margie.

I want her to come home.

I want to hear her voice, and
whatever she did, she did.

But come home.

My heart and my door
is always open for her.
