Trailing the radium thieves, Jimmy is
caught.

While Superman rounds up the others,
Jimmy and his captor drive heedlessly

into deadly danger.

Stand by. I'll bring you in on the space
transporter.

How's that lump on your head?

Oh, feels like I was kissed by a
blockbuster. What happened?

Just hang on to your hat.

I'm taking you back to the planet
office.

Radium has no effect on Superman.

Quite true. But by combining radium with
certain rare elements, I can derive

chemically the one thing that will stop
Superman.

Synthetic kryptonite.

Okay. As soon as I have the whole story,

Just as I drove up, I saw two of them in
a getaway car.

Now let's have the story from the
beginning, one at a time.

before they disappeared was the reason

for the radium theft.

The Ataman intends to use it to make
synthetic kryptonite. Do you think he

can do it? Whether he can or not, it'll
make a great story. Now, here's your

Ataman claims weapon will stop Superman.

I admire your confidence in this
experiment.

It's hardly an experiment.

I've made it my business to know all
about Krypton and Kryptonite.

If Krypton is a lost planet, how do you
account for Superman here on Earth?

For years, I've studied the writings of
astronomers and scientists.

While most of them have had only
fragmentary reports...

I've been able to piece them together
and arrive at certain conclusions.

It seems that in the far reaches of
space, at a pinpoint of infinity, there

was once a tiny blue star.

Spanning the billions of miles that
separated this star from the Earth, they

discovered that it was in reality a
planet like our own.

It was the ill-fated planet Krypton,
which revolved about the brilliant sun

of its own solar system.

while satellites, like ringed moons in
turn, revolved about it.

Krypton was a rugged planet, laced with
jagged mountain chains rich in strange

minerals unknown to Earth.

And on a wide plateau lay the capital of
Krypton, the nerve center of a

civilization that was far advanced, for
it boasted a race of supermen and women.

Among the leaders was Jor-El, the
foremost man of science.

His home also served as his laboratory
and workshop.

Jor-El's wife, Lara, inspired him in his
feverish race to construct a trial

spaceship.

If successful, he planned on building a
mammoth fleet to carry the inhabitants

of the doomed planet to safety here on
Earth.

How do you know about this?

Knowing that his planet was doomed,
Jor-El apparently sent out messages in

cryptonic code.

A ship's wireless operator kept
receiving the impulses.

Although he couldn't break down the
code, he did make records of them.

These were given to me by the captain of
that ship, and I alone succeeded in

deciphering Jor-El's pleas for help.

Jor-El concluded that Krypton was being
drawn towards its sun and would one day

explode like a giant bubble and
disintegrate.

Then came the day when Jor-El's
predictions were verified.

The greatest concern of Jor-El and Lara
was for the safety of their infant son.

Yielding to Jor-El's urgent demands, the
Council of Krypton convened an emergency

session.

Heed my warning.

This is my final plea.

Time is our mortal enemy.

We must prepare to escape in spaceships
without delay.

There is no alternative if our advanced
civilization is to endure.

We shall put it to a vote.

Is it the desire of this assembly to
concur with Jor-El's proposal to

construct spaceships to remove Krypton's
population?

No. No.

No, no.

The council has spoken, Jor-El.

Not spoken, Rosa.

It has pronounced the death sentence for
all Krypton.

With each hour, the intensity of the
tremors increased.

Krypton became unbearably hot as it was
drawn closer to its sun. Jor-El worked

incessantly to complete his tiny
spaceship, though he knew that only one

of them could go in it.

Then the fatal moment came.

All Krypton shuddered as it suffered the
agonies of doom.

What astronomers mistook for a meteor
they could never find was undoubtedly

the spaceship that brought Superman to
Earth.

Fusion's complete.

This is synthetic kryptonite. Does it
have the power of the original

substance? Why, of course it has.

Then all we have to do is find Superman.

That won't be difficult.

Our man Harris is working as a janitor
at the Daily Planet. Take this to him.

He'll know how to use it when Superman
puts in an appearance.

here to protect me. The Ataman may have
