Original subtitles

The following story is fictional and does not depict any actual person or event.

In New York City's war on crime,

the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives

of the Major Case Squad.

These are their stories.

What would a baby girl love?

Stuffed monkey, no doubt!

Hey, mom, how you doing, mom? I love you!

Congratulations!

Justie! Come give your mama a kiss.

How do I look?

Beautiful like always.

Come meet your new baby sister.

Say hi, Ava.

Hey, hey, you got a cold? Sanitize.

Make sure Ava's not blocked.

Can we take your entrance again, Justin?

Why?

It was real. This is a reality show.

I know this is your show, honey,

but this is Ava's big TV debut. Let her shine.

Sure, whatever you want, mom.

Oh, my angel.

Ronnie, how's the hair?

It's fine. It's perfect. Come on, let's go.

- Come on, all right. - My two angels.

Oh, I love you.

Justin's, like, the sweetest guy I have ever met.

No attitude, no drama...

Now what you saying?

Uh-huh?

Nothing. We're not talking about you.

Don't listen to them. I'm a BAD! Bad boy.

Oh, baby, can you hook me up?

Let's dance.

Everybody, don't, don't know.

- Justin! - Justin, are you all right?

Justin, Justin, get up!

Somebody help, please?

Help! Help!

Oh, my God!

ORIGINAL AIR DATE ON NBC: 2007/05/08

Justin Holland.

Grand mal seizures while dancing.

Died in a private ambulance on the way to the ER.

Party animal roadkill. What are we doing here?

He's Lorelei Mailer's son.

The stripper who married the 90-year-old billionaire?

Is this his kid?

So she claims. His family's been contesting it for years.

Well, maybe the contest's over. What did he die of?

Cause: A lethal cocktail of methadone and anti-depressants.

But the manner gets complicated.

He wasn't a regular user of methadone or heroin.

What did he use regularly?

SSRIs. Anti-depressants.

The tox screen also picked up cocaine,

ecstasy, and crystal meth in his eyeball juice.

But not in his liver or blood.

Then except for the methadone and SSRIs, he's been clean for two weeks.

So the party drugs weren't a factor in his death?

Methadone and SSRIs don't mix.

A kid with this much drug experience, he would have known that.

Maybe he knew and didn't care.

That's existential.

Someone probably slipped him methadone without him knowing.

That's paranoid.

Okay, Rodgers. Accident, suicide, homicide?

Case undetermined pending police investigation.

I'm passing the buck.

Max Hollywood continues

to cover the tragic death of Lorelei Mailer's son, Justin Holland.

And outpouring of support for Lorelei

as news of her son's shocking death spread to her many fans.

Outside the hospital where Lorelei had just given birth to a daughter,

we spoke to Men's Privilege magazine publisher George Merritt.

I just visited Lorelei.

We're praying for her.

Justin was a beautiful boy with a bright future.

Lorelei Mailer, a woman of limited talent and accomplishment,

loses her son to a drug overdose.

And it takes up 50% of the cable TV news haul.

Am I missing something?

When did this woman become an icon?

Ever since she married James Edward Holland,

a guy four times her age.

She went from a coal town in Kentucky to a penthouse on Fifth avenue.

Everyone loves a Cinderella story.

And that makes Mr. Merritt her fairy godmother.

How does he fit in?

He discovered Lorelei.

She was privilege magazine's honey of the year.

And I take it Holland was a subscriber.

Whirlwind courtship, quick marriage.

Eight months later, Justin was born.

He became an heir to the Holland fortune.

And two days after Lorelei gives birth to her new daughter,

her older boy dies.

Whatever happened, a sad story.

But the next 48 hours won't matter as much as reconstructing Justin's past 48.

Shouldn't be hard.

It's all on tape.

Justin was filming a reality show when he died.

Guess who the producer was?

Justin had charisma.

The camera loved him. This is gonna destroy Lorelei.

They were more like brother and sister than mother and son.

Such a shame. I thought he was clean.

- So you knew Justin was a user. - In the past.

It was a condition of the show, obviously, that he remain sober. But...

I take it he slipped.

Did you film his collapsing?

Yeah. We thought he was goofing around.

Look.

- Justin! - Justin, are you all right?

Somebody help, please?

Help! Help!

You and your crew were with him his entire last day?

I never saw him take a hit, a bump, a pill.

None of the crew did, either.

And he was on camera the whole time?

Well, we didn't follow him to the bathroom, but...

Right. The bathroom.

Here.

Justin's, like, the sweetest guy I have ever met.

No attitude, no drama...

What you saying?

Who's the leggy girlfriend?

Aleena Korshikova is an up-and-coming Slovenian model.

- Well-behaved. - We're not talking about you.

Could you pause that?

Check out Aleena.

Probably sinus trouble, huh?

We'll need to get her contact information.

Where was this shot?

Lorelei's condo.

Justin lives there when he's in town.

Maybe he was helping himself to mom's medicine cabinet.

My wife is obviously devastated.

I mean, we all are. It's a horrible tragedy.

Lorelei's still in the hospital?

With our baby.

I want them both to get as much peace as they can.

The press. They've been vultures.

When was the last time you saw Justin?

Uh...

with Ava at the hospital.

I had no idea he had fallen off the wagon.

Somebody please get that?

Jolene, Princess needs to go out.

The walker was here an hour ago.

Hey, she's an old dog with bladder issues.

Do I have time for this?

Sorry, it's been absolute chaos.

Where was I?

You were gonna show us Justin's room.

Right.

- Is this his bag? - Uh, yeah.

Um, can I ask what you're looking for?

Nothing special.

Just routine.

Oh, yeah. Of course.

These don't look like Justin's style.

Uh, no, those are mine.

You and your wife have separate rooms?

Uh, no, she just keeps all her stuff in the closet,

'cause, you know, she took our closet...

I'll check the bathroom.

Um, should I be asking for a warrant?

Well, in these kind of tragedies, the family usually cooperates.

Well, I don't know where, uh, Justin kept his stash, so...

Squeaky-clean for a young guy.

Well, we have help, detectives.

Oh, you got a lot of people coming in and out of here? / Yeah.

- We're gonna need a list. - Okay.

As soon as possible.

Anything?

Maybe. Beneflu. Cold medicine.

Brightly-colored liquid. Could mask methadone.

Let's seize it.

Okay, so I'm having a list printed up.

Um, but if you're looking for drugs,

you should check with those models that Justin's always partying with.

Drugs?

I mean, you do understand that

the children's cable network is about to name Aleena role model of the year.

Hey, we don't care if she's Pablo Escobar.

We wanna know about Justin.

I'm not saying I did anything, but, um..

I've seen Justin do, coke, X, crystal meth.

That's all?

No heroin?

No. Ups, not downs.

Mostly coke.

You ever see him with his dealer?

People were always coming up to him.

How about the night he died?

No.

When he's taping, Justin stays clean.

Elena, we have you and Justin on tape coming out of a bathroom together,

wiping your nose.

I was, um, fixing my makeup.

Was Justin fixing his make-up too?

He was sick.

He...

he took a swig of medicine.

Did he ever party with methadone?

Justin could get pure X, the best coke.

Why would he do methadone? That's a crap high.

Thank you.

Lab report on the beneflu bottle.

No prints, but traces of methadone.

Which we're pretty sure was never Justin's taste.

Sure enough to infer murder?

So someone knew he took SSRIs,

spiked his cold medicine with methadone, and figured that would kill him.

Had to have been somebody close to him with access to his home.

Who knows their way around pharmaceuticals.

Lorelei's been in and out of rehab her entire career.

Time to tell the grieving mother how sorry we are for her loss.

Justin was the angel on my shoulder.

The last time you saw Justin, what did you talk about?

Ava.

He was so happy.

Ms. Mailer, was Justin on any medication?

I know what they're saying about how he died and it just isn't true.

Ronnie, tell them.

You're talking to the nurses?

I told you, don't talk to anybody.

No newspapers, no TV.

It's all garbage.

I miss my sweet Justin.

Guys, can we, uh,

we're really stressing Lorelei out here.

Where's my sweet, sweet Justin?

She always that lucid?

Hey, I work hard to keep Lorelei sober.

The doctor gave her a valium.

You know, she's being discharged today and...

He's worried about her mental state.

She's depressed?

Well, she keeps saying crazy stuff, like, you know,

"I wanna be with Justin." You know?

I'm kind of worried about what's gonna happen

when she finds out that the funeral's delayed.

The ME will release the body as soon as...

It's not the ME!

It's those two Holland bitches.

James Holland has two daughters from his first marriage.

And they're saying that James isn't Justin's dad,

and they're demanding DNA from Justin's corpse.

It's awful. But that'll never happen to you, will it?

No, it won't.

It'll never happen to you.

Never.

This case has gone from tawdry to macabre.

Disposition of this poor boy's body is now in contention?

He was into Eastern religions.

Lorelei says it was his wish to have his ashes scattered in the ganges.

Spiritual choice for him, lucky break for her

if she's afraid Holland wasn't really Justin's father.

Which is why the Holland sisters have filed an injunction on his cremation.

They wanna test paternity first.

Their father was 90 when Justin was born.

I'm sure they'll be happy to vent to you about Lorelei.

I want my, my son.

Ronnie, they can't do this. They can't keep his body.

I know. Calm down. Let me, let me get you something.

I want my Justin!

I want my...

I wanna die too!

- Stop it. - Unlock this!

- Hush now, you're gonna wake... - I wanna die!

Lorelei, take this.

Take that, okay?

See, you know, that's better, right?

Oh, my God.

Lorelei?

What the hell did you give her?

I...

call her doctor.

Now!

It's okay, baby. Help is on its way.

With all the money they have, the Holland sisters live here?

Who was that?

It's the doorman at Lorelei's condo.

Really?

A friend of yours?

He wants to be.

He says a private ambulance was called to the building's service entrance last night.

Lorelei was taken away unconscious.

Is she all right?

Well, she came back two hours later, like nothing happened.

Lorelei's got nine lives, all right.

That Lorelei woman.

A dancer? Please.

She took off her clothes for money.

A floozy.

Excuse our language.

But, my father...

- Our father. - Our father...

James Edward Holland.

Clara, please.

I'm speaking.

Papa was in his 60s when our mother died.

We took care of him.

I was 12.

I was 7. We did everything for him.

We would lay out his clothes for him. We'd cook for him.

We would draw his mustard baths.

It was just the three of us.

We're papa's little girls.

I see.

And then...

he met Lorelei.

I'm sure he was in that burlesque club for a business meeting.

Probably.

She didn't take care of him.

She left him sitting in his Wheelchair outside in the rain.

And she never took care of that son of hers, either.

You mean Justin, your half-brother?

So she says.

We just want to know, one way or the other.

If he was our half-brother, we'll mourn properly.

When was the last time you saw Justin?

Well, he was about yea big.

Sometimes I think papa married that woman

'cause he was disappointed in me.

Once I forgot to strain the pulp from his orange juice.

I'll regret that morning the rest of my life.

He likes you.

It's his musk.

James Edward Holland revises his will

six months before he dies.

Leaving 90% of a billion dollar fortune to Lorelei.

And the Holland sisters objected.

Oh, yeah. Big time.

They filed a lawsuit claiming that their father wasn't in sound mind

when he changed his will.

And Lorelei counter-sued.

The court battle has dragged on for ten years

and will end one of three ways.

Lorelei wins, she gets 90%.

900 million.

The sisters will just have to get by on 100 million.

Life is tough.

And if Lorelei loses, the children get...

Bessie, Clara, and Justin split the pie three ways.

But since Justin's dead, his share reverts to Lorelei.

But if Justin isn't Holland's son, the sisters take it all.

Which could give them the motive for murder.

Thank you, Simmons.

Oh, thank you.

Well, I have a hard time picturing these two old birds getting to the corner store,

much less committing murder.

Who else is feeding at the Holland trough?

Lorelei just had a baby. Who's the father?

Ronnie Chase claims to be.

But Lorelei isn't known for monogamy.

And what is Mr. Chase known for?

He's Lorelei's manager, legal adviser,

and claims to be her husband.

He's a sycophant.

Tells her what she wants to hear, keeps us away.

Maybe there's a reason he doesn't want her talking to the police.

Wheeler, invite Mr. Chase downtown.

We could use his help ID'ing some of Justin's friends from the reality tape.

When he comes down, you pay a visit to Lorelei.

And don't let on that you know anything about her overdose.

Ronnie...

God, it feels like forever.

Like, over ten years.

We met at the mansion.

George Merritt introduced us.

You know what? Never, ever google yourself.

These bloggers say the nastiest things.

Well, you shouldn't look at that stuff, Ms. Mailer.

It's Lorelei.

Like in the movie.

That's a really nice watch.

May I see it?

Sure.

Actually...

they don't make this particular kind of watch anymore.

I like a man's watch.

So you met Ronnie when you were still married to Mr. Holland?

Yeah, he gave me really good legal advice.

He told me to stay married.

He's a lawyer, huh?

Mm, I'm not technically a lawyer.

I started out as Lorelei's manager.

And, you know, we just became much more to each other over time.

But you've given her legal advice.

Well, I have a legal background.

That's right. You just didn't pass the bar.

But you did pass the test from the taxi and limousine commission.

Do you still have your license?

That was a previous job.

I thought we were here to talk about Justin's friends.

We're just trying to get a few facts straight.

The chauffeur's license.

You drove strippers to bachelor parties.

Clients. I took care of them.

It was money.

But nothing like Lorelei money.

He told me what to tell James about the will and...

he's just been a rock ever since.

And he's Ava's father?

Nobody's more of a father than Ronnie.

'Cause we couldn't help but notice

that all his clothes were in the guest bedroom.

We don't sleep together.

I mean, look at him.

Oh, Princess!

Oh, my baby, baby, baby.

Oh, I love you.

Detective Logan, it's time for my nap.

Uh, Ms. Mailer?

My watch.

Well, it was a gift, wasn't it?

You get a cut of everything she makes, right?

Okay, look, I'm used to people casting aspersions, all right?

But I work hard.

Okay, like, Justin's show?

I helped him get that deal.

Are we gonna watch this tape or what?

So, Jolene, Ronnie says he was trying to keep her clean.

Yeah, it's been real hard since Justin died.

Last night we had to have her stomach pumped.

Her stomach pumped? What happened?

She's been a wreck.

Ronnie gave her sleeping pills.

We understand that Justin was staying sober to set a good example for his mom.

He, uh, get along with Ronnie?

The boy loved his mama.

But Ronnie not so much?

Maybe he thought she'd be better off without Ronnie.

Justin ever tell her that?

Last few weeks...

I think he was bringing her around.

How long have you and Lorelei been married?

Five years.

Yeah, we wanted to wait a respectable amount of time after Holland passed.

Uh-huh.

And you signed paternity papers when Ava was born?

Yeah. She's my daughter.

Why would you need to sign paternity papers if you were married?

Well, we're not, uh...

we're not legally married.

Uh, but we did have a commitment ceremony in Bermuda.

That's beautiful.

- A commitment ceremony? - Yeah.

Is that 'cause Lorelei wasn't ready to commit?

Excuse me?

There were rumors that she was going to leave you before Justin died.

Yeah, well, don't believe everything you hear.

So he didn't tell his mother that she'd be better off without you?

That's ridiculous.

I devote all of my energy to Lorelei.

Funny how she still yo-yos in and out of rehab.

You threw a party for her in a nightclub the last time she got out?

Nothing wrong with celebrating sobriety.

Are we done here?

We would like to ask you a few more questions.

Okay, well, why don't you save them?

You know what? You're right about one thing, detective.

I'm not a lawyer.

But I did go to law school.

And unless you're charging me with anything...

I'm free to walk out.

Ronnie spiked Justin's cold medicine, knowing it would kill him?

Why?

We think that Justin wanted Lorelei to clean up her act and leave Ronnie.

Ronnie didn't wanna lose his meal ticket.

Justin's paternity results. Lorelei was telling the truth.

He's James Holland's son.

So Justin's good for a third of the Holland estate,

and now it goes to his mother.

Well, Ronnie's got Lorelei right where he wants her.

Depressed, lonely, and rich.

Glass of lemon liqueur on the nightstand,

empty bottle of vodka in the bed.

Empty bottle of anti-depressants prescribed to Lorelei.

I'll have Rodgers put a rush on the tox screen.

Well, every family gets a pass on one suspicious death.

Two in one week? That's a little much.

I came home, heard the water running...

uh, opened the door, and she was lying there, dead.

Dead?

How do you know?

Did you take her pulse?

Did you try to revive her?

This isn't the first time I've had to call 911, detective.

I mean, I know she was upset about Justin, but...

I can't...

I can't believe she'd do this.

So you think she killed herself, huh?

Lorelei's been through it all, you know?

I mean, up and down countless times. But I've never...

I have never seen her give up hope.

She wanted to be with Justin.

Isn't that the line of baloney you were feeding us before?

Man, you...

you think you know me. Right?

You don't know me, detective.

I loved that woman.

Let me tell you something, Mr. Chase.

I think I'm getting to know you.

Now, you got something else you wanna tell me?

You know something about a suicide note we don't know about?

Suicide note.

Lorelei wasn't the, uh...

the literary type.

Oh, God.

I can't, I can't believe she's gone.

Lorelei would still be alive...

if I said something to your partner,

but I was afraid.

Of Ronnie?

You think he had something to do with Lorelei's death?

I leave to take Ava to the park, Lorelei's fine.

I come back, she's on the floor. Ronnie's standing over her.

That doesn't mean he killed her.

Twice, detective? First my nephew, then my sister.

Twice?

You and Lorelei are sisters?

Yeah.

We used to look more alike before Lorelei had all that work done.

Not now, Princess.

How long have you been her assistant?

Since mama died.

Lorelei, she needed someone to watch over her.

She's like a child, you know? Trusting all the wrong people.

- Like Ronnie? - Yeah.

Jolene, you said you were afraid to tell my partner something.

Ronnie, he was, he was always giving Lorelei pills.

Keeping her doped up.

What about alcohol?

I found vodka in her bedroom.

Yeah, I tried to keep it out of the house, but...

he kept smuggling it in. Once, I was cleaning,

I found booze in his darkroom. All kinds.

You and me, we're gonna be peaches, huh?

You like that?

Sweet little Ava.

I could insist on a warrant, but why?

You're not gonna find anything.

Except for your porno stash.

Co-ed spinners five?

Whatever. The producers had a pitch for us.

Limoncello?

Is this for a methadone cocktail?

I don't know how that got there.

And you're not gonna find any methadone.

That's film for my photography.

More baby pictures for the tabloids,

or did you take a few snaps of Lorelei on the bathroom floor?

You know what? Expose any of those, and I'll sue.

What's that, liquid film?

I have no idea how that got there.

It's a prescription for methadone.

Patient's name, Norma Mortensen.

Norma Mortensen.

That's Marilyn Monroe's real name.

I didn't, I didn't put that there.

So you wrote the prescription for methadone, Dr. Holgreen.

Yes. She used the name Mortensen for confidentiality.

And the paparazzi went through her trash and bribed pharmacists.

So the methadone was for her.

Yeah, it's safe during pregnancy.

But not in combination with SSRIs.

Yeah, I, I had no idea she was on them.

Hey, we're not trying to revoke your license, doc.

When was the last time you examined her?

Uh, on the set of her movie, "Torrid mambo."

- I was the cast physician. - Torrid mambo?

That came out three years ago.

Her prescription's dated three weeks ago.

I got a message from Ronnie Chase.

And I called the prescription into the pharmacy.

Anything besides the methadone?

Viagra. For Ronnie.

Lorelei was on a downward spiral even before Justin died.

The methadone was just a precautionary measure.

You ever give her any?

No!

And the second I heard that Justin was coming to stay,

I threw it out.

He was an addict.

He had no self-control.

How did it end up in your darkroom?

Man, come on, I...

if I knew it was there, I never would have allowed that search.

Did you procure anything else, like coke or crank or...

No, nothing else.

Nothing illegal.

What about her anti-depressants?

I didn't even know she was on those.

My client has told you,

he had no knowledge of other drugs in the house.

Including the viagra?

Viagra?

What, did you need that to compete with all the other guys

that are banging her?

That's none of your business.

Well, I mean, you got, like, four paternity suits out there.

You two really had a special relationship.

Yeah, we did have something special, you son of a bitch.

- You have no id... - Detectives!

My client had nothing to do with these unfortunate overdoses.

He's in mourning.

And he needs to get home to his daughter.

Call a sitter.

You'll have to mourn in holding.

Well, he was pretty defensive about the viagra.

Maybe it wasn't just for the occasional jolly.

If it's for medical reasons,

he may be incapable of fathering a child.

And if he's not the baby's father,

he was better off with Lorelei alive attesting to his paternity.

Get his records.

Rock-a-bye baby on the tree top

when the wind blows the cradle will rock

when the bow breaks the cradle will fall

 and down will come baby

Oh, Princess.

You're an old girl, aren't you?

Leaky plumbing.

So sad.

Ronnie Chase had cancer.

His prostate was removed five years ago,

which left him impotent and sterile.

Viagra cures the first, not the second.

If he's not Ava's father, why submit to a paternity test?

We think Ronnie had his sperm frozen.

Turns out that Ronnie and Lorelei

had an appointment with a South American fertility clinic ten months ago.

Around the time Ava was conceived.

These people, it never ends.

I don't suppose the clinic will let us take a peek at the records.

They may not have to.

The DNA paternity results for Ava are in.

We have a surprise winner.

We are very pleased to announce that DNA tests have proven

that Ava Mailer is the daughter of our late father, James Edward Holland.

As the closest living relatives,

we will be seeking immediate custody of little baby Ava.

Wow.

James Edward Holland fathered a baby ten years after his death.

The rich really are different.

Well, that's a mistake.

I mean, the clinic made a mistake.

Lorelei told them to use my sperm.

They obviously had James Edward Holland's banked as well.

Did Lorelei tell you that?

No.

Well, you know, she probably figured his sperm was more valuable than yours.

I think she double-crossed you, Ronnie.

No, no, no, no, no. She's wouldn't do that.

She would not do that to me.

Oh, come on, you actually believed that Ava was your baby?

- Ronnie, don't answer that! - Yeah, of course I did!

Man, the second I saw that baby, I fell in love, all right?

She's mine.

She's mine! Okay?

And those Holland sisters will never get custody of her.

Ronnie, your attorney wanted you to shut up,

'cause if you believe then baby was yours...

by killing Justin and Lorelei,

you would become the sole guardian of Ava and her fortune.

My client could not possibly be sure the baby was his.

He knew that Lorelei had a number of lovers.

Any one of them could have been the father.

Only one of them brought methadone into the apartment.

And he threw it out!

Someone must have taken it from the trash.

You didn't put it down the chute, Ronnie?

Man, I don't even know where the chute is!

Then who does?

The methadone?

Ronnie had me pick it up at the pharmacy.

You think that's what he used to kill Justin and Lorelei?

Someone spiked his cold medicine and her limoncello.

Ronnie claims he threw the methadone out.

And you believe him?

He let us search his darkroom.

If he had known it was there, he would never do that.

You called his bluff.

He also submitted to a paternity test,

but there's no way he was the father.

I mean, he could take all the viagra he wanted,

she wasn't gonna sleep with him.

Look, Jolene, I don't like this guy any more than you do,

but we need some solid evidence here.

Well, how about this?

When he sent me to the pharmacy to pick up the methadone,

he also had me get beneflu.

He knew Justin was sick.

Any way you can prove that?

A list.

In Ronnie's writing.

Not very careful of Ronnie to send you out for the murder weapon.

Oh, no one notices I'm here. They're not careful around me.

Doesn't that bother you much?

No, my sister liked the attention.

I was happy to be in the background.

You can get some attention with that necklace.

Oh, Lorelei would have wanted me to have it.

Which reminds me. I found your watch, detective.

My sister took what she wanted. She couldn't help herself.

Is there anything else I can do?

You've been very helpful, Jolene.

Where's Princess?

Oh, poor Princess. She was...

she was so upset about Lorelei that she wouldn't eat.

We had to put her down.

You have a shopping list in Ronnie Chase's handwriting

listing methadone and beneflu,

and you don't think he's the murderer?

Yeah, well, we think it's strange

that Jolene just happened to save the list.

She keeps finding evidence to incriminate Ronnie.

Jolene was their gopher.

She must have known they were on anti-depressants.

She could have killed both of them.

Cinderella's revenge.

Maybe, but killing a sister...

it's gotta be for more than money.

Who can we talk to about their history?

George Merritt?

He's known the family for 20 years.

She always wanted to check out early, one way or the other.

Before 40.

Like Marilyn.

Well, the thing is, somebody helped her check out.

Someone she was close to, someone she trusted.

Oh, she trusted everybody. Even Ronnie.

How about Jolene?

That wasn't so much trust as, uh, dependence.

Jolene took care of her and Justin.

Night and day.

Well, did Lorelei ever take care of Jolene?

She tried to, early on.

First time I met her,

she tried to get me to use Jolene in the magazine.

A sister spread.

Two for one, she said.

That'd be right up your alley.

Jolene didn't have the goods.

Lorelei...

was the real deal.

I told Jolene...

there's only room for one honey of the year.

Jolene spent the past 20 years in Lorelei's shadow.

We think she got tired of caretaking her sister and nephew.

She kills them, frames Ronnie Chase.

Thinking she'd get custody of the baby and the baby's millions.

Right, now if the Holland sisters get custody of Ava,

that spoils that part of the plan.

So what happens if we spoiled the rest?

Okay, release Ronnie, escort him back to the condo,

see how Jolene reacts.

Gotcha.

What's he doing here?

We don't have enough to hold him, Jolene.

What do you mean? He killed Justin!

You framed me!

You planted the drugs, you planted the shopping list...

You're a liar!

No, I saw him go into Justin's bathroom.

And that night Justin dies and a half a bottle of beneflu

ends up in the garbage? I knew he did it.

So you fished out the bottle,

put it in the medicine cabinet for us to find?

Yeah.

Why didn't you just tell us?

'cause you wouldn't believe me without evidence, I thought.

Yeah, well, you thought wrong. It's over, Jolene.

- Come here! - No, I'm gonna go, buddy!

Stay where you are! Stay where you are!

It's over! Come on! She's got my baby! / Jolene!

Wait!

Stay away from me!

I told you, she's crazy. She's a murderer.

Shut up, Ronnie.

Jolene, hand me the baby.

She needs me.

I know how to take care of her. I've done it my whole life.

Sure you have. Like with Lorelei.

Lorelei and I had each other...

till him.

I loved your sister.

If you loved her, you never would have killed Justin.

That's not true. Don't listen to her.

Tell them what happened.

Jolene, come on. Please.

You love Ava, right?

What if you lost her?

- Jolene, please stop. - No, no...

Jolene, let me hold Ava.

Tell them.

Tell them!

Ronnie, if you have something to tell us,

now would be the time.

You wanna be a father, act like one.

I thought, I thought that Lorelei would get over it.

And she'd forget about Justin after a while,

and I'd be there for her.

You're saying that you killed Justin.

Did you hear that? Tell her.

He, he was telling her to, to leave me.

And I couldn't have that.

It wasn't a bad death. Just don't harm my baby, please.

- For God's sakes. - All right, it's all right, Jolene.

Easy, now. Just take it easy.

No, I don't want him to get Ava. He'll trick those sisters.

No, he won't. He's going to prison.

He won't hurt you or the baby.

Like he hurt my sister.

No, I had nothing to do with her death, I swear!

You know the truth, Jolene!

Taking her son. I've never seen anyone cry so hard.

She was sick about it.

But you took care of her.

She was in so much pain.

She was so sad.

Like Princess, her dog.

Poor dumb creature.

She wasn't any good to herself or anybody else.

She knew it was time to go. She was grateful.

How did you take care of your sister, Jolene?

She said she wanted to kill herself to be with Justin.

And I was afraid. I couldn't...

I couldn't let her take Ava too.

I put it in her limoncello.

Her favorite drink.

Well, you were protecting Ava.

Lorelei wasn't any good as a mother.

It wasn't her fault, she just...

she didn't know how.

Ava's innocent, helpless.

Yeah. So pure.

She looks like Lorelei when she was little.

I think she looks like you.

What color are her eyes?

Blue. Like mine.

Exactly like yours.

She's gonna be beautiful when she grows up.

Can I hold her, Jolene?

She's beautiful already.

She's my baby.

She's so pure.

She's got her whole life.

Okay?
