Original subtitles

They’re coming out. Mom, keep looking.

- Okay. - Sooryun, you too.

You can’t let them get to Jangmi.

I repeat, don’t let them get to Jangmi.

Okay.

There…

Jangmi!

Unni!

UNNI!

- Jangmi. - Jangmi!

- Jangmi! - Jangmi!

Unni! Unni!

Jangmi!

Gangtae!

Get your hands off! Get it off!

Jangmi!

Get off her!

- Jangmi! - Jangmi!

Dad, let me go! Let me go!

People are watching, be quiet! Let’s go.

- Jangmi. - Jangmi!

Unni!

Quiet down.

Jangmi, Jangmi!

You still haven’t heard from Manjong?

No.

Try calling him again, see if he met Jangmi yet. Hurry.

Okay.

- Let go, let me go! - Manjong!

Jangmi!

Don’t raise your voice!

How can you do this?

You thought driving me out of Korea will silence me?

Or that I’ll never find out?

I can’t just watch Chorong and Chadol suffer!

Shut up! Don’t say another word!

Take her upstairs.

Let me go! I didn’t come here for this.

My gosh, honey…Jangmi…

Mother, wait, wait.

My gosh, what is going on!

Thank you.

Open the door! Open the door, Dad!

You can’t lock me in here, you can’t. Open the door!

You should’ve never came back!

Don’t even think about climbing out the window! It’s blocked!

Be quiet and stay in there until the election, okay?

Mother…

Stay out of it unless you want to get kicked out.

He’s really upset!

- Dad! Open the door! - What do I do?

Open it only when giving her food but don’t let her out, okay?

What about bathroom? If she needs to go?

I left a bowl in there.

Mother, you too. Don’t open it.

O, okay…I won’t.

My gosh… what do we do honey?

The in-laws are here.

What? In-Laws? We don’t have in-laws.

Dad, open the door!

Mom! Grandma!

Don’t let those people in!

What are you all doing in front of my house!

Jangmi’s in there, right? Let me talk to her.

Please open the door!

She’s not home.

And there’s no need for her to talk to you, so get out!

You’re making a scene, embarrassing us!

You know what’s really embarrassing?

You want to me to make a scene?

Hey, everyone! Listen up!

- Mom. - Mother…

Jangmi Baek falsely accused my son!

And they’re about to drive us to our ruin!

Everyone! Come hear me out!

These people hide their daughter!

And they put the blame on other people!

Everyone, HELP US!

- That crazy… - Everyone!

My gosh! How ignorant and crazy!

Why’s she screaming, making a scene!

- Everyone! - Are you crazy?

Yes, I am! Where’s Jangmi!

How dare you go in there?

- Mom!. - Mother!

- Dad! - What are you doing?

I told you not to go in there!

I said Jangmi’s not home. Leave!

Then where is she?

Why do you want to know!

Take your mom and leave!

You took Jangmi from the airport!

I don’t believe you. I’ve got to see it for myself.

- Mom… - How dare you go in there?

I’ll call the cops for trespassing!

Call the cops?

Fine, call them!

Do you think I’m scared of that? No, I don’t care.

Call them! Go ahead!

- Mom, Mom! - Mother.

- Let me go! - Mom!

Call Jangmi out right now!

Get your hands off of him!

How dare you put your hand on my precious son!

And my son too! He’s precious to me too!

Call Jangmi out! Tell her to come out.

My son…save my son! My precious son!

Mom…Mom, Mom!

- Mom, are you okay? - Mother, Mother.

Pick her up! Hurry!

Mom… Mom…

Drink some water.

Here.

How can they be so cruel?

Aren’t everyone’s child just as precious?

Is it so hard for them to deny the rumors?

I should’ve went, I should’ve.

- Are you sure you weren’t part of this? - Hey!

Mother… I’m sorry.

Sooryun!

Sooryun…

What are you doing?

Are you packing?

I don’t deserve to live here.

I… can’t face you or your mother.

Or Chadol, Sara, or Chorong. I can’t stay here…

Sooryun, don’t do this to me.

This isn’t your fault! No one’s blaming you for this!

But Jangmi’s my sister…

And my father’s my father…

I’m really … can’t see anyone in the face.

You shouldn’t be.

Mother…

When you moved in with us…I went to your dad.

I told him I’d make you my daughter.

We’re a family now… so don’t be sorry.

You acting this way is making it harder for me.

Mother…

What does she see in that family?

They’re all ignorant! And classless.

Can’t you understand them?

They’re heartbroken and angry. Think about it.

Even so! How dare she put her hand on me!

My waist too!

Besides, I’m her in-law, Sooryun’s Father.

I thought you said they weren’t our in-laws.

WHAT?

I shouldn't waste my time with them.

The election’s so soon.

I’m leaving so keep your eyes on Jangmi, Okay?

Okay.

When are you going to refund this? Hurry.

I can’t wear your brand, you’re a coward. Here.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry…

Get inside.

If you come out, those girls will camp outside again.

They’ll drive out the rest of the customers, you shouldn’t come out.

Hyunggi…

Let’s just close it down, just until it dies down.

No, I’ll come out by myself.

You stay in the office and manage our website and refunds.

I’m sorry, Hyunggi.

Don’t worry. You should go.

Come in.

Whoa!

Seunghyun.

How’s it here? It’s too small, right?

This is small for you?

Yeah. It’s really cozy.

Have you got anything bigger?

My gosh.

He doesn’t need a bigger place.

Yeah, Mom. This is perfect for me.

Yeah?

I didn’t want to burden you with this.

Burden me? I’m your mother.

I feel terrible though.

To make you live on your own.

Mom, I’m fine and I love this place.

Yeah? Then move in today and live here.

Today…?

Yeah.

I can’t let you stay in that tiny room, it’s upsetting.

Mom…

Let’s get some furniture while we’re at it.

Okay, Mom.

You got Seunghyun a place?

Yeah.

He could’ve lived here.

I don’t think he’s comfortable with that idea.

We’ll take it slow.

Okay.

That’s kind of you to offer though.

Don’t worry. It’s only natural.

Eat some more.

This is your favorite.

Okay.

Did you come early to have dinner with us?

I was on my way back to the office but dropped by.

I’ve got to talk to her too.

You do? What is it?

I found a spot for Seunghyun in the company.

A spot for him?

My gosh, honey… this soon?

Today or tomorrow, he can start whenever he wants.

Okay.

Well, I’ll drop by the office tomorrow. Give him a tour too.

Okay, sure.

What’s going on? She’s getting him a job now?

Hey, hey!

Did you ask Youngguk to make a spot for Seunghyun?

Yeah.

Did he ask you to?

No.

He’s more interested in starting his own business.

But I thought he should get more experience first.

Yeah, business isn’t for everyone.

It’ll be good for Seunghyun’s to be around Youngguk.

He’ll teach him like he did for Jaedong.

You’re right.

But don’t you think you’re rushing?

He can join the company later.

Later when?

We don’t know what’ll happen to me.

I’ve got to give him a spot before I leave.

Stop saying that.

You’ve got to outlive me, don’t you know?

I know, Mom.

I’ll outlive you.

For Seunghyun and for your sake.

Of course.

All that effort I put in’s being wasted.

All this to benefit a fake son…

No, I should be grateful.

I should think positively, she’s gotten much better.

It’s for Yeonhwa…

Chadol, come take a seat.

Where’s Mom and Chorong?

Chorong’s sleeping.

Mom fainted today, a lot has happened.

What happened?

Jangmi came to Korea to deny the rumors.

But her father took her and Mom chased after him…

Why’d she go to their house?

Why else! For you! All for you!

Only Jangmi can clear your name!

I don’t want her to tell the truth.

Don’t you guys know that we didn’t break up badly.

The rumors will fade with time.

The rumors won’t affect me as much. But not Jangmi.

There’s no difference!

She did this, why should you pay for it?

So you want Jangmi to publicly confess that she left Chorong?

Is that what’s best for Chorong?

No, but…

Maybe not in those words, but she should clear your name.

That’s the same.

I’ll handle it so don’t get Jangmi involved.

That’s much easier for me.

That idiot…

Hello. I’m candidate no. 1 Manjong Baek.

Take heart, fighting!

Thank you.

I’m candidate no 1. Manjong Baek.

Thank you.

- Mister, be strong! - Thank you.

I’m candidate no. 1 Manjong Baek.

Honey.

You’ve been out in the cold all day, great work.

But guess all that work’s been paying off.

I can’t feel my hands from all the handshakes.

Does it hurt? Do you want me to massage it?

What’s gotten to you? This is a rare sight.

I’m your wife.

I don’t nag at you because I want to.

But honey…

How much longer are you going to keep her in there?

That didn’t last very long, did it now?

I’m just saying…

She’s an adult, we can’t keep her there. That’s not a solution.

What if Mr. Lee finds out?

Honey…

Why don’t we just come clean and clear Chadol’s name?

Come clean? What for?

I can’t ruin my election now.

If we let Jangmi speak, that’ll be the end of her career and life.

Can’t you see the bigger picture?

I’m just scared that we’d be punished for this.

Punished?

Didn’t you see the way she treated me?

It’s just until the end of the election. So keep your eyes on her, okay?

Answer me.

Okay.

Hello?

Is this Mr. Manjong Baek?

Yes, it is. Who’s calling?

I don’t know if you remember me.

4 years ago… you instructed me.

To drop off an infant at a baby-box.

Don’t you know that I’m a witness to what happened?

But seems like the rumor’s got it all wrong.

Wh, What?

Who is it?

It’s an important call. Don’t worry.

If it’s important, shouldn’t I know? Is it a national secret?

What? 100 million? No way.

No one’s forcing you to pay.

I was gonna go directly to the media.

But I thought I’d give you heads up beforehand.

Considering the election and your daughter’s wedding.

I get your point, let’s meet.

I want 100 million in cash.

Remember the place and the time.

Manjong, what are you up to?

M, Mother. It’s nothing.

The election’s almost over and you’ve got the support. What’s this for?

Who was that on the phone? Didn’t seem like a good news.

You don’t have to worry. I’ll be back.

But…

Is everything okay?

It’s fine, you should rest.

I’ve been having bad dreams.

And the safe’s been emptied out.

What if he doesn’t win the election?

This is all because of Jangmi!

Daughters are all useless!

This is the first and the last time.

I never asked you to abandon an infant.

And we’ll never see each other. Okay?

Fine.

If you don’t keep your word, it’ll be the end for both of us.

Of course, don’t worry.

Thanks for the money, Mr. Baek.

I hope you become the district rep and do great things.

Jangmi, eat some of this and drink some water.

Mom, please open the door. Let me out, please.

No, Jangmi.

If I let you out… your father will kill me.

Just wait a few more days, until his election’s over.

Mom, let me just see Chorong for a bit.

Why do you want to see her?

What’d you do with her?

She knows … she knows that I’m her mother.

I have to explain the truth to her. I have to apologize.

You know how I feel, right?

She thought I was just an unni all along.

But think about how shocked she would be.

What do I do…

I’ll go give her a hug, just once. Hm?

You promise you’ll come right back?

You’ve got to be back before your father comes.

Yeah, Mom. I promise you.

Just once. Nothing more, right?

Yeah, I promise.

What are you doing?

My gosh…

Are you crazy?

Your husband’s out working hard. How can you betray him!

Mother, Mother… hear me out.

She said it’ll be brief, she just wants to see Chorong.

What? You believe her?

She’s going to go and tell the world! Don’t you get it?

Grandma, please.I’ll just go see Chorong.

Shut it! You better stay put until the election!

Why don’t I call Manjong and tell him to come home.

Mother, Mother, please. Mother…

What are you doing?

Mother, what’s the matter?

- Well… - Mother…

Were you about to let Jangmi go?

No, no. That’s not it.

I was just trying to give her some bread.

Dad, if you don’t open the door. I’ll starve myself.

I don’t care. Starving for a few days won’t kill you.

I was…

I was just worried because she hasn’t been eating.

I’m warning you again.

Unless you’re going to divorce me, don’t open the door, okay?

Is everything okay?

It’s me. How can I help?

I heard Jangmi’s back but I couldn’t reach her.

Oh, I see.

She’s got sick so she’s sleeping right now.

Is it bad?

No, you don’t have to worry.

She’s under a lot of stress with the rumors.

I see. It must’ve been hard for her to stay in Hawaii.

I’ll try to get in contact with her soon.

Sure, do that, bye.

Was that Mr. Lee?

We can’t keep lying to him.

We took Jangmi’s phone.

He’ll get suspicious if he can’t talk to her.

If he calls again, tell him we sent her off to a countryside.

Will he buy that?

We just need an excuse. We can’t tell him the truth.

Bring me some water.

Okay.

Now I’m getting black mailed because of this.

He better not come back asking for more money.

No way…

Once I become the district rep and become Chilsung’s in-law.

Then I’ll get rid of those people.

He’s the owner of Gangho?

Wow, I thought he was just well off. But an owner?

It’s a temp spot to start.

Think of it as building experiences and give your best.

Okay, I will.

Okay. Hard work always pays off.

Thank you, Mr. Lee.

Ask your superiors if you have any questions.

Okay, Mom.

Hello, Mr. Kim.

Please look after him. You can follow him.

Okay.

Thank you, honey.

Don’t mention it, it’s for Seunghyun.

All this for a fake son? Must mean the real son can’t be found.

Then I can live my life as her son.

If I play my cards right, I’ll be set for life.

Inheriting an affiliated company would be good.

Uncle!

Hey… Seunghyun.

What brings you here?

I’m working here from today.

You are?

Really?

Yeah, I was just with my father.

What? F, Father?

I can’t chat, I’ve got to go.

I’ll see you around. Bye.

What is he talking about?

He’s calling Youngguk as his father?

Why’s it so hard to warm up to him? Am I jealous?

No, no. This is definitely more than that.

It’s deeper than that. Something’s unsettling.

Why did you bring me here…

This is where you’ll be working.

I’ll be working here?

Yeah, change into this.

So guess he doesn’t see me as his own.

This is how he treats the owner’s stepson? Sticking me in here?

Honey, I better go.

I’ve been taking up too much of your time.

You’re going to the hospital, right? Let me come.

No, I’ll go alone. It’ll take too long.

Then let me take you to the hospital.

I have Mr. Kim, there’s no need.

You should go.

Then call me after you exams.

I’ll come home.

Okay. I’ll call you.

Bye.

Sootaek.

Yes, Ms. Lee.

Can you ask Sara to hand me the analysis report on the BI auction?

Sara, Ms. Yoon would like the analysis report on the BI auction.

Could you ask her when she needs it by?

Tell her I want it now.

Tell her I’ve got the materials today. Tell her that’s impossible.

HEY!

Ms. Yoon. Did you just yell at me?

What are you doing?

My gosh…

That’s enough for the two of you.

That’s exactly what I mean.

Didn’t you see how rude she was to me?

I’m her superior shouldn’t she obey?

Is she being favored because you’re dating her?

Ms. Yoon, you’re right.

Mr. Koh…

Sara, come see me.

How can you get mad at me?

Don’t you know how I feel?

She’s not wrong.

We’re at work. This is your fault.

But I’m disappointed, you scolded me in front of everyone.

Sara, can’t you see that this is all for you?

For me?

Yeah.

I bet you didn’t know this.

But Ms. Yoon used to play judo.

Judo?

Yeah.

She could take you any day. She’s really strong.

How strong?

We used to have a guy named Kitae in our department.

Real strong and big guy.

Ms. Yoon and Kitae got in a fight. Then he asked for a transfer and left.

Really?

Yeah, I know.

Kids, drink this, it’s cold.

You guys should go home now. Why’re you doing this?

I know you’re upset but you’re interfering with our business.

Does your parents know that you’re here?

I’m not a student.

What good will it bring if we close down?

You guys will be unhappy and Chadol’s not like that.

I’ve known him for 10 years, he’s a real nice guy.

Nice guy?

How ‘nice’ of him to abandon Jangmi and steal her baby.

You shouldn’t do business with him.

- Right, you should! - You should!

There he is!

Hey, you bastard! Give Yoojin back!

That’s enough!

I’m going to call the cops and let your parents know.

Chadol Park! Why don’t you say anything?

Can’t you explain to them? That they’re wrong, can’t you?

We’ve got work to do, let’s go.

Yes, I just finished and am headed home.

Wasn’t it hard?

No.

It was just examinations.

Okay. I’ll head home too.

Okay, I’ll see you.

Isn’t this Chadol’s store? What’s going on?

Shinae, it’s me.

I’m in front of Chadol’s store. What’s going on?

My gosh, what’s all this article?

Mrs. Lee, what do we do…

Actress Jangmi Baek…

But you’re saying the opposite is true?

Yeah.

But everyone seems to believe the media.

They think that Chadol left the girl and took the baby.

That’s awful…

I couldn’t do much for Chadol as his mother.

He opened up this store and did all this by himself.

I thought that only good things will happen to him.

Shinae…

I don’t understand how all of this can happen.

If I could show my heart, I would.

I wish the rumors were aimed at me and not him.

I feel so terrible… I’m so upset… I feel like dying…

I’ll try to figure out how I can help.

Thank you, Mrs. Lee.

When’d you come home?

What do you mean? Is that all true?

I should leave.

Why don’t you help them? It’s really unfortunate.

Okay.

Yes, it’s me.

Why didn’t you tell me about this?

I didn’t want to bug you with it.

Don’t say that.

Now that I know, I’ll see what I can do.

Thank you so much Youngguk.

And I’m sorry.

Don’t worry too much.

Okay.

Mr. Kim, block all the articles about Chadol Park.

Take down the existing articles too. All of them.

Okay, Sir.

And dig some more about it.

Try to find out the person that spread the rumor.

Okay, I’ll do that.

Okay, do it as quickly as you can.

You really want to see me die?

You won’t even drink water?

If you’re not going to eat or drink, just drink this water.

If you don’t listen me and keep refusing to eat.

I’ll beat you before you starve yourself.

She’s so stubborn! She’s so selfish!

You’re even worse than your father, Jangmi!

I’m so sick of the stubborn Baeks in the family.

Do what you want. Do whatever you want!

Hello. Hello! I’m candidate no. 1 Manjong Baek.

You’re working late. I’ll make sure all your work pays off!

- Remember, candidate no. 1. - Candidate no. 1.

Hello?

Honey, come home.

Why? I’m busy campaigning at a market.

I don’t care, just come!

What’s the point of that after Jangmi dies!

Come home and feed her or let her go! DO something!

What?

She won’t even drink water.

If she doesn’t want to eat, she can at least drink water.

Doing this isn’t going to get you out.

It’s all your loss.

Let me go.

It’s just few more days until the election’s over.

Why’re you so adamant about telling the truth.

What’s already been done’s been done.

If you start opening your mouth, it’ll ruin me and Mr. Lee.

So be patient.

Then let me just say that the rumor’s not true.

I just need to explain Chadol’s position too.

I won’t let it affect you.

Yeah, let her do that. His business’s ruined.

Are you kidding me?

If it wasn’t him then by default it’s Jangmi’s fault.

No way, never! I’m getting sympathy votes.

You know how easily people change their mind.

Who’s that? Go check to see who it is.

Okay.

Manjong, Manjong! It’s Mr. Lee!

What? Mr. Lee?

My gosh, what do we do…

Honey, go open the door.

Okay.

Jangmi, don’t say word ,okay?

Mr. Lee, what brings you here?

I was just worried about Jangmi. Is she okay?

No but she’s not here, she went away.

She did?

She told us not to worry. I figured she called you.

Oh, I see.

Have you had dinner?

Not yet.

Good, us too.

Why don’t we get some Chinese food for dinner?

I’m craving some Chinese.

That sound great.

Wait for us outside, I’ll wait for my mother.

Okay.

Dad! Mom! Open the door! Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee!

What’s that? Sounds like Jangmi’s voice.

I said open the door!

What’s going on?

It’s a family matter.

I’ll explain it to you later, so just…

Mr. Lee! Please help me! Open the door!

Open the door.

No, I can’t. I have a reason.

Jangmi and I are going to get married. Open the door.

Jangmi, what’s wrong?

I’ve got to go. I need to go.

Go where? Jangmi, calm down.

Calm down and explain what you mean.

Okay, I will. I’ll tell you everything, all of it!

No, Jangmi Baek! Don’t you dare!

Father!

Stay out of it.

So the guy didn’t leave you and stole the baby but you left them?

You’re the one that left the newborn and the guy.

Yes.

It’s not true. It’s not, Jangmi Baek!

Please! Stay out of it.

Let her talk.

I don’t know how the rumor spread like that.

But he’s being falsely accused and I couldn’t stay quiet.

That’s why I came back, to clear his name. It’s only right.

And he locked you in here to prevent that.

Yes.

Father, so you lied to me all along.

No, no. She’s not in her right mind.

She’s saying all this because she’s upset.

Dad, stop with the lies.

Mr. Lee… I really liked you.

I just didn’t want to disappoint you with what happened.

She was so young when that happened. She didn’t know.

But you did lie to me about it.

I’m sorry about that.

My late mother told me not to get involved with liars.

Good-bye.

Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee!

Go.

Mr. Lee, Mr. Lee!

Where are you going?

Let me go! Let go!

What are you doing!

- Come over here. Come. - Honey, let her go!

Do you know what you’ve done.

If this breaks off your engagement, I won’t forgive you.

Don’t give her food or water. Nothing!

Jangmi, why’d you do that! Why?

How can she ruin everything.

How can I recover from this?

Jangmi, I’m sorry for hitting you.

I shouldn’t have done that but I was just too upset.

It just happened…

I’m sorry. I mean it.

Jangmi, I understand how you feel.

I know that you can’t stand to see Chadol facing false rumors.

But that’s not your fault or mine.

But Jangmi… you can’t be selfish.

Think about how Mr. Lee must’ve felt.

You’ve got to think twice and consider him too.

Think about how hurtful he must be to hear all this about your past.

I know you understand what I mean.

Jangmi, I’ll go beg Jaeyoon for forgiveness.

I’ll fix this so do your part too, okay?

Jangmi… I’ll be right back, okay?

He’s got another an appointment.

You told him who I am? That it’s Jangmi’s father?

Yes.

I see. There’s always next time.

Mr. Lee. Mr. Lee, it’s me.

Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee!

He doesn’t want to see you right now.

What?

Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee! Mr. Lee, Mr. Lee!

The rumor started with Jooyoung Suh by writing it on the Internet.

The rumor initially said that Jangmi left the man and the baby.

So the article changed somehow?

Did you find out who changed it?

Yes, we found who was behind that too.

Who was it?

It was Jangmi Baek’s father, Manjong Baek.

What?

Manjong… Baek. Mr. Baek?

He’s a candidate for a district election. And Jangmi.

Was about to be engaged to Chilsung’s Jaeyoon Lee.

To avoid a catastrophe.

Yes, according to the reporter who wrote the new article.

He said Mr. Baek made him do it.

I see. Thank you, Mr. Kim.

Yes, Sir.

Will he call off the engagement? He shouldn’t.

Hello.

It’s me, Youngguk.

Hello, Mr. Lee, can I help you?

Are you available to meet?

You want to meet?

Where’d Jangmi go?

Are you my mom?

I am your Mom, I’m sorry I lied.

I’m sorry I never told you.

You did all this to save yourself?

Let’s have him write a corrected article.

What’s the point? This is pointless.

What's going on?

Something’s off. Something’s not right.

I’m sorry, I won’t make it any harder, I’ll tell the truth.

Mr. Kim, I’ll be holding a press conference.
