That survey's been done, and it's come up to a really high-grade gravel,

so they can actually use it for the main road,

and there's gravel on about, probably about 75% of this lease,

which in campers have hit everything as well.

So that does me out of the gold game if I sell up.

Brad, I'm going to need you to come through and scoop some of this.

Gold price has absolutely skyrocketed.

Over $5,000 an ounce.

It's really set a fire under the whole mining industry.

With all the mining going on in the area,

all the roads are getting destroyed by the old truck,

things like that, they need gravel.

For a road-building company, they've got no interest in the gold

in the dirt.

That gold's lost.

It's basically made into the roads.

In the early days, Cal Ghouli was actually paved with gold.

The roads were made with the material.

It was that rich, they ended up going back,

ripping the roads up to process it for the gold.

In the 1890s, Cal Ghouli's gold rush turned a dusty town into a thriving city.

Using local materials laced with traces of gold,

the race to build was far more valuable than extracting it at the time.

I'm just going to start laying a pad outside of this direction a little bit.

The gravel of all things could actually end up paying him more than the gold.

We've just got to prove that the road's not walking away from an even bigger fortune in the gold mine.

With gold prices soaring up more than 40% in the last year,

holding onto gold-rich ground could prove a strong long-term investment.

If you're ever going to be a gold miner, now's the time.

And that's what I want to do, I want to look for gold.

I did consider moving the gravel myself, but it costs an absolute fortune.

A big morning company obviously has nothing for them.

They've got billions of dollars.

This deal that's on the table, they're not going to wait forever,

so I really do need to make a decision.

If I take the deal, I'm going to pack up and leave.

We dig down to an ancient, buried river system,

just like the old time is dead, no different.

But we're doing it with heavy escalators and earth moving equipment.

We pull our pay dirt, put it in the back of the dump truck.

We take the dump truck around to what we call the pad area,

and then we push them out into a pad six inches deep.

We come in with a detector and recover any gold nuggets that are there.

What we're really looking for is some virgin ground ground.

That the old timers have missed, and in that virgin ground,

anything can be laying in white there for us, anything.

We'll get on the pads and get this gold out.

Well, there's one, hopefully there's many.

Hopefully, Kayden's born and some colour up German gully as well.

I'd love to be out there finding the big nuggets,

but we're going to need as much gold as possible if we're serious.

We're upgrading its operation.

With monster nuggets at Caddo's paddock far from guaranteed,

15 minutes south at German gully,

the team are dependent on 18-year-old Kayden to deliver steady fine gold

through their six-ton-an-hour mini wash plant.

We've got a hopper who is what I'm filling up with dirt,

simple conveyor belt, feeds the dirt into the trommel barrel,

which breaks up all the clays as the water washes over it,

brought a smaller, finer gold-bearing gravel,

then gets blocked down over a sluice through the gold gets caught,

clean it up and get the gold out.

Oh, I'm absolutely over the moon.

I have a job that I love and I've been dreaming to do

since I was a little kid, because I want to show Dad

a nice gold bar at the end of the week.

Hopefully, the gold I find out here is just the cherry on top.

This could be a good week.

and it looks like it gets down into a good gully down there.

I just want to work along this creek here just below this area

where Kyle's working.

It's really good to search the lowest point of the creek.

Any of that gold that's come down from the surrounding hills

is eventually going to end up here.

Millions of years ago, shifting tectonic plates

pushed gold-rich cords towards the surface,

where it hardened into rock.

As erosion set the gold free,

gravity forced it into ancient river systems

where it became trapped in bedrock crevices.

This is a little bit of exposed bedrock

that's coming up through the top.

This probably runs along under the ground

and it's just come to the point where it's exposed here.

It's definitely got all the right ingredients for gold.

I'm worried.

I feel like the pressure's really on me.

So you get your head around a gold field and understand it

and then all of a sudden it's like you've got to start all over again

and hope that there's a really good reward at the end of it.

That's definitely a target.

We're getting right into those clays and I can still see

the shales, the bedrock, like running across.

The thing is, if this is gold,

then I think Kyle's going to be pretty happy to hear that.
