But even though there are numerous good looking people walking around in the entrainment business

sometimes a casting director is looking for something a little bit different

Lets have a look at the stars who went the extra mile, and lost or gained quite a bit of weight for a particular part

Aussie movie hunk Chris Hemsworth is a great example when it comes to preparing for a role

For the movie in The Heart Of The Sea, he sacrificed his usually buff physique and shed 33 pounds in four weeks

The actor admitted that the experience was much more difficult than gaining the same amount of weight for the Marvel flick Thor

Just the sort of insanity of constantly thinking about when your next meal is or what you can have

and what you cant have and if I eat this you know, hmm could I... that means that I cant have this

All the sort of craziness that comes with it

Chris namesake Pratt, you may or may not remember, is a superhunk now but used to be a little chubby.

For his roles in the big blockbusters Guardians of the Galaxy and the dino-riffic sequel Jurassic World

World he had to lose quite some weight and muscle up big time

which of course is a lot harder if you werent really fit before

you know In order to keep up

the physicality of this character, it required maybe an hour or two of work a day

Just consistent working out through the course of making the movie

and also a few months leading up to it. It took a little bit

Another actor whos no stranger to extreme weight shifts is Christian Bale.

To play the part of chronic insomniac Trevor Reznik in the 2004 movie The Machinist

he famously lost over 60 pounds

Six years later Bale slimmed down to an extreme level again for The Fighter

but it was worth it, as portraying the drug addicted former boxer earned him an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor

In 2013 Christian once again shocked the audience

but this time he went to the other extreme

After a diet of doughnuts and cheeseburgers

he appeared about 40 pounds heavier than usual in the movie American Hustle

Someone who also knows a thing or two about doughnut diets is Charlize Theron

who gained 30 pounds to transform from a gorgeous skinny Dior model

into an unattractive, chubby, mentally ill woman for her award winning part in Monster

Also a star at packing on the pounds is Renee Zellweger

who famously gained weight to play the lovelorn diarist Bridget Jones

She did this by abandoning her strict training schedule and swapping salads for 4,000 calorie meals

Gaining weight isnt hard to do for most people

its later losing the weight you gained thats the challenge

Renee had to do this more than once and of course the question that people ask her the most is how did she manage it?

I always have to answer, cause I have to answer and I have to be responsible here,

because that wasnt the goal

The issue isnt losing weight, as Renee Zellweger losing weight

Thats not what my experience was

My experience was, Renee Zellweger the actress wants to play Bridget Jones

who has a very different lifestyle, background and life than I do

And I needed to look appropriate in order to authenticate this characterisation

So what I know how to do, is be an actress who can change her body slightly to play a part

And I know where its challenging and I know how to cheat and I know who to call to get help and I needed help, a lot of help

And I wanted to do it in a healthy way so that I could keep up with a very rigorous shooting schedule

Matthew McConaughey is another actor who has shown extreme dedication to making movies

The southern hunk shed 40 pounds for his portrayal of HIV-positive campaigner Ron Woodruff in Dallas Buyers Club

The heavy transformation made even his kids a little suspicious

Because they saw it every day

One time my daughter said, papa why do you have such a long giraffe neck?

Little did his daughter know that that same giraffe neck would win her dad his first Academy Award in 2014.

Also picking up her first Academy Award for a skinny role was Anne Hathaway

who embarked on a strict crash diet for 2012s Les Miserables and lost about 25 pounds

She was hardly the only star in the movie who had to adopt a brutal diet and exercise regimen, though

Hugh Jackman had to lose a lot of weight while also maintaining as much muscle as he could

which led to 3 hours a day in the gym but eating barely any food

On top of that, he went without water for 36 hours before shooting the opening sequences of the film

to create a gaunt look that would suit his convict character

Although it did make him a bit dizzy and grumpy

Jackman admitted that it was all worth it after seeing the final results

And as we all know in Hollywood, healthy method or not, thats what its all about in the end

The golden tan, the muscle and the Southern charm made actor Matthew McConaughey the bonafide king of romcoms

but hes since gone method and turned into a "serious" actor

Mathew lost more than 40 pounds to act in Dallas Buyers Club through pretty hardcore methods

Not the kind of person youd usually expect to grow up into an Oscar-winning actor,

Matthew McConaughey was born in Texas

the youngest of three sons in a family that didnt even watch movies

I didnt see my first film until I was 17 and we werent allowed to watch TV

wow its amazing

so, most of our stories were passed down and we werent a reading family either,

not many books in the house, I still dont read much

But I mean the stories were passed down around the dinner table every night,

at the lazy suzan, you sat there for over an hour and a half

and you had to be brave and confident with your voice to get in

you had to sit there and listen the whole time, but you had to interject and get your own story in

After beginning with small roles in the 1990s

the first decade of the new millennium saw Matthew became a romcom staple

According to his frequent co-star Kate Hudson, theres one very simple reason for this

Then, in 2013, came the role hed been waiting for.

In Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew starred as Ron Woodruff

a macho rodeo rider who discovers he has AIDS

We always can respect and have sympathy for humanity

we dont necessarily… its harder to have respect

or sympathy for someone whos playing an attitude

or trying to be a bad ass

No, this guy was a bad ass

We know those people in life, so if we stick to the human side,if its human

we dont have to like him, but you can still sympathise and respect him

The part would win him both an Oscar and a Golden Globe

not that he did the project for the prizes, of course

I got so much pleasure and gratitude out of just the making of the film

When it was over, I was full

For it to be here now, for me to win this award tonight,

its more than bonus time, but its a celebration time

He continued his string of successes as an astronaut on a quest to save the world in Christopher Nolans very scientific adventure flick Interstellar

It is a family picture as well, but its also just a wild epic adventure further into space than weve ever gone

Matthew also branched out into voice acting around this time,

lending his distinctive tones to kid friendly flicks like Sing

Im not gonna say I like it better, but I felt like I wanted to make something my kids could see

at least. I havent made anything they can see in the last ten years, if you go back

I mean, not much. Youre not gonna sit em down and say: Hey, guys, look at True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club

Not when youre eight years old. They need a couple more years

2018 brought us McConaughey in the crime drama White Boy Rick

But his favorite part of making the movie was getting to be a role model for young actor Richie Merritt, who plays his son

The Wolf of Wall Street is arguably the most decadent and most scandalous movie in recent times

but the excesses in it is the central message of the film

Director Martin Scorseses 2013 hit The Wolf of Wall Street became an instant classic

It was easily the best film of that year and marked the directors fifth collaboration with his muse Leonardo DiCaprio

It has a strong resemblance to 80s classics like Scarface and Oliver Stones Wall Street

Although many of the movies scenes depict situations so bizarre

youd think they have to be fiction

most of them really did happen as real life shady stock-broker Jordan Belfort was one of a kind

This character is somebody that gave into every debaucherous temptation he possibly could

and had no regard for anyone except himself

Belfort was running a penny-stock scheme back in the 80s

and earned literally thousands of dollars by the minute

Was it all legal?

Absolutely not.

After DiCaprio read Jordans memoir, he became obsessed with playing Belfort at any cost

This one really took all the adrenaline out of me

This landed him in a bidding frenzy against Brad Pitt over the rights to make it happen

In the end, Leo won and got Martin Scorsese involved to direct the project

Belfort was thrilled for the famous duo to make a motion picture of his life

and started training DiCaprio on how to party as hard as a young stock-broker

Id say we are incredibly conservative in comparison to what these guys did

Its almost like they have no moral compass

I mean

Theyre sitting behind a desk all day and theyre trained to be these animals that are just out to make a buck and work as much as they possibly can.

And their release gage just explodes

And These guys were influenced by heavy amounts of drugs as well

During auditions, Leo was slapped rather hard in the face in the middle of one tryout by a potential onscreen wife

The room became dead silent, followed by a burst of laughter from Scorsese

Margot Robbie, who got the role because of this, says she was scared that DiCaprio would sue her and apologised immediately

but Leo just encouraged her to hit him again

We let the actors push the envelope every single day

Fortunately, DiCaprio got some karmic revenge during their sex scene on a bed covered with cash

The fake paper bills had sharp edges resulting in multiple paper cuts to poor Margots back

Co-star Jonah Hill also had to man up and take some heavy blows

The actor was punched so hard in the face that his prosthetic teeth split and flew out of his mouth

As the show had to go on, Scorsese seized the moment and proceeded to film Hills face swelling up in real time

And a large variety of animals were used in making the movie

There was a chimpanzee who learned roller-skating over the course of 3 weeks

They had a lion walking through the office scenes

because Belforts trading companys logo was a lion

and there was a goldfish that Jonah Hill had to eat

No CGI was used for any of the animals

though the goldfish that ended up in Jonahs mouth was switched with a rubber dummy for him to swallow

even though he wanted to eat a live one

In the end The Wolf of Wall Street became a huge hit and received 5 Oscar nominations

Why it didnt actually win any is a mystery to us

but movie buffs the world over instantly fell in love with this all time classic

Johnny Depp quit school to go on tour with his band at age sixteen

But after landing in LA, the group didnt last long, and Johnny entered the world of film and television with big dreams for his future

He does something different each time and I mean, I feel really great working with him

Despite these non-commercial intentions, films like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise have seen to it that audiences all over the world know who Johnny Depp is

You can never predict you know whats going to happen with those things you know.

Its always nice when a film is seen by people and appreciated by people

but I never expected the reaction to Pirates. I was really shocked and pleased and grateful

Other blockbuster hits for Johnny have been the Alice in Wonderland films, the Fantastic Beasts franchise

and of course continuing to play Captain Jack Sparrow in four more Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

For me, hes just sort of endless fun, you know?

as he proved once again in 2019 when he brought us the intimate drama The Professor,

and now it is way more often I want to have a big butt.

And I want my butt to be bubble, and I want it to come out and I want it to be think and round and complete

And I even get some women saying I want my legs just to look bigger

The best example of Gunnar getting the most out of people is Sylvester Stallone

Theyve trained together for many years and at the age of 70, Sly is still a top action hero

When I see Stallone in The Expendables,

running, jumping, diving

You know, all that, thats cool because I know how hard he works in the gym
