Did a man write
a book in a single night,

and did he make a deal
with the devil to do it?

Behind these devil's pacts,

you can't just orally agree

to some kind of
agreement with him.

You must sign in blood.

Around the world,

people are collecting
evidence of the unexplained,

tonight's focus, bizarre finds.

The mystery is,
well, what are they?

Because at the moment
we simply don't know.

Our experts
will analyze the evidence

and then we'll pass a verdict.

One thing for sure,

these people did not want
these corpses to walk again.

The Proof starts now.

Good evening and welcome to
the "Proof is Out There".

We've had alleged alien corpses

and even alien fetuses
on the show before,

but tonight, for the first time,

we're going to investigate
an alleged alien egg

at the bottom of the sea.

Check this out.

It's August 30th,
2023, and researchers

at the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration,

or NOAA, are live
streaming a mission

to find new life in these
unexplored waters off Alaska.

The ship, the Okeanos Explorer
has sent a tricked out ROV,

or remotely operated vehicle,

two miles down
below the surface.

And before long,
the device's camera

comes across this
confounding site.

It's a strange golden orb

resting on the
Alaskan sea floor.

It's smooth,
rounded texture

looks almost egg like.

The scientist are dumbfounded

having never seen anything
remotely like this before.

As we were coming across it,

I was like, huh, that
looks pretty interesting.

And I was like, ooh, I don't
really know what that is.

Scientists from around the world

watching the live stream
are just as perplexed.

Some scientists suggested

that this could
possibly be coral,

but many believe that's
highly improbable

due to its smooth surface
and lack of coral like holes.

Other researchers have
shot down the idea

that this could
simply be a sponge

due to its apparent fragility.

The closer we got, rather
than getting more answers,

I think we got more questions.

So we ended up deciding
to take a sample

and bringing it back on board.

The mysterious specimen

is brought to the Smithsonian
Museum of Natural History

where its identity remains
a mystery to this day.

Many are convinced that
it is some type of USO

or unidentified
submersible object.

Is this something extra
terrestrial in nature?

Underwater ETs seem farfetched.

While there are
those who believe

that all life on earth
may have originated

from an extraterrestrial source.

Gerhard points to a
recently popularized theory

in the scientific community
called Panspermia.

Panspermia, which
is the concept

that the seeds of life are
planted throughout the universe.

Imagine a micro
organic substance

traveling through the
cosmos on an asteroid.

If such life forms can survive
the pressures of outer space,

then these essentially
become the seeds of life

on other planets.

Many believers
in Panspermia suggest

that at some point in history,

these space seeds crashed
into earth's surface

leading to the development
of life, even us.

Other theories
picture the phenomenon

as something more sinister,

that these space
seeds are dangerous

and could contaminate our planet

spelling doomed for
all indigenous life.

However, Gerhard
presents one more theory

that this still could be a
creature of earthly origin

that haunted these
waters millennia ago.

On May 18th, 2011,

paleontologists working in
the Tongass National Forest

of southeast Alaska discovered
the fossilized remains

of a new species
of thalattosaur.

Very strange aquatic reptiles

that lived during
the Lower Triassic

about 200 million years ago.

Could this golden
object be the egg

of some unknown species
of surviving dinosaur?

Can organisms really
survive in space?

Well, tobacco seed samples

were mounted outside of
spacecraft for more than a year.

After they were returned to
earth on the space shuttle,

a quarter of them survived

well enough to be
grown as plants.

Could this golden orb
have spawned from a seed

that was equally space worthy?

Let's check in with the experts.

It's been suggested

that this could be the
egg of a thalattosaur,

a group of marine reptiles
that became extinct

during the mid to late Jurassic.

Even though they have
found fossilized,

the lattice source up in Alaska,

they couldn't possibly
survive there today

because reptiles are
exothermic or cold-blooded,

which means they're
not gonna be able

to maintain any body heat in
the cold water off of Alaska.

The idea of panspermia

is actually very biologically
and evolutionarily unlikely.

We typically think of
organisms as fungi or animals

or bacteria, but before that
there was actually something

called the last universal
common ancestor.

And this was a
creature of some sort

that was the common ancestor
for all life on earth

as we know it today.

The last
universal common ancestor

was a single cell
bacterium like organism

that many scientists
believe was the ancestor

of all living things on earth.

This was
essentially

a cellular structure we know

that life on earth
evolved this way.

It's actually very unlikely

that the last universal
common ancestor

traveled from a
different planet.

In fact, new research

suggests that this
original organism

may have generated on
cracks in the ocean floor.

So could this deep water
orb represent the discovery

of a new earthly species?

I would guess
this may be the egg casing

of some kind of ocean animal

because it's a
very thin membrane

that is attached
to a rocky surface.

And that gives an embryonic
animal time to develop

in a safe and
static environment.

But until there's molecular
testing or genetic analysis

of whatever this is,
we don't know for sure.

And that's part of the
excitement of the ocean,

there's always
something new to find.

Our verdict, we are leading
toward this being the egg

of an undiscovered species.

Our experts seem to agree
that this is an egg shell

or casing of some kind,
but exactly what it is

and where it came
from remains unknown.

This is exciting stuff, people.

We may have witnessed a
discovery of something profound

in real time.

We often wonder about
the vastness of space

and the unexplored
depths of the oceans.

There's also a whole world

of the unexplained
beneath our feet.

In this next story, something
massive with huge claws

seems to be tunneling
through the earth.

Take a look.

On a Friday
evening in 2008,

geology professor Heinrich
Franc is home bound

on the freeway past the town
of Novo Hamburgo, Brazil.

Something catches his eye
at a construction site

on the side of the road.

Take a look.

The first tunnel I found
was very, very small,

and when I entered
I see immediately,

the claw marks on the walls.

Look closer.

Dr. Frank focuses on this,

grooves dug into
the tunnel walls

and slashes in the surface.

What could have
made these marks?

Dr. Frank's research
dates the caves

to be about 12,000 years old,

and there's reason to think,

they aren't just
natural formations.

Taking a close look at 'em

from a scientific point of view,

they don't appear
to be natural caves

based on the types of rocks
that they're being cut in.

Some of these rocks are much
harder than the easy rocks

that would be broke by water.

They also have a
really weird shape,

and that they're more horizontal
than they are vertical,

which tells me that something
carved these tunnels out.

And when you consider
all the megafauna,

you have only two animals

with the necessary
claws to build tunnels,

the armadillos and the sloths.

We're talking now
about the Pleistocene Era,

which ended 11,700 years ago.

It was the age of megaphone,

gargantuan mammals
like mastodons,

and in this case, perhaps
the famous giant sloth.

Could Frank have discovered
some sort of ancient burrow

or could such an animal
believe to be extinct,

still be living there today.

When you
go inside the stones,

sometimes you feel like the
animal is on the next corner.

The fossil record
shows that megalonyx sloths

were the size of present
day bull elephants,

but throw in three massive claws

on each forearm
used for defense.

They roam the western hemisphere
when humans first arrived.

One can only imagine how
terrifying it must have been

to try to hunt these
giant ground sloths.

In fact, there has
been evidence found

of these giant ground
sloths, the mylodonts,

that were actually trapped
in a cave in Argentina

and corralled and kept as a
food source by primitive humans.

Giant sloths and
humans together,

if it sounds like something
out of a horror film

instead of history, a recent
find will change your mind.

At White Sands In New Mexico,

archeologists uncovered
the prints of a giant sloth

being followed by humans.

They were stalking it.

So could these giants
still be around?

Did they dig the
Brazilian tunnels?

And if not them, then what did?

If you take a look

at one of the tops
of the ceilings

of one of these caverns,

you'll see that there
looks like claw marks.

Bob Anderson thinks
some sort of burrowing creature

made these caves.

And what if these
animals still exist?

Well, some people
have suggested

that these giant caves

are actually the
holes and burrows.

Well, that's a interesting
idea, but show me the artifacts.

So far,
there's no proof.

No one has captured a giant
sloth, found a carcass,

or taken a single
picture of one.

So I can take giant
sloth right off the list.

And Barnhart
even questions

if giant sloths ever dug
these tunnels at all.

Look down in
this section here.

Look, there's one, one, one.

There's one coming across here.

There is no reason to believe
that these are claw marks

because they would be
repeatedly sections of three.

Barnhart makes a good point.

But if a giant three
toad had uneven claws,

it might leave one,
two, or three marks

depending on how
hard it was digging.

Still, Barnhart thinks
it's more likely

the marks were created by an
extinct worm-like creature

called a trilobite.

Some were predators.

The biggest weight
is much 10 pounds.

And they were known
to burrow into walls.

These are much
more like worm casts

that were into the wall.

Trilobites make more sense to me

because those are individual
hot dog shaped things

that attach themselves
to the wall and dig in.

But hang on,
as you can see,

there are distinct differences

between these confirmed
trilobite tracks

and what we see in
Dr. Frank's tunnels.

Is this case really closed?

Okay, it's true that
no giant sloth fossils

have been found in
Dr. Frank's tunnels,

but the marks don't look

exactly like trilobite
tracks either.

So we can't come down on
one side or the other.

We're calling this an
unexplained phenomenon

until we get further proof.

Can evil spirits
possess our bodies

even after we die?

In our next story, we
take a look at evidence

from an ancient burial ground

that indicates a genuine
fear of the undead

among a terrified community.

Were they onto something?

It's late 2023 in the
village of Pien, Poland.

Dariusz Polinski along with
his team of fellow researchers

are excavating an unmarked
17th century cemetery,

first discovered in 2005.

Archeologists have unearthed
nearly 100 graves at the site.

Their digs just keep
getting stranger

until they make this
ghastly discovery.

This photo shows remains
that archeologists say

are those of a 6-year-old
boy who was buried face down

with a padlock
under his left foot

that's seemingly
chaining him to the earth

as if to keep the
body from getting up

and leaving the grave.

A woman's body was also
found in the cemetery

with a sickle around the
neck placed in such a way

that if the deceased
tried to get up,

the head would be severed
or at least injured.

What's going on here?

Journalist Erin McCarthy says,

it could tie back to the
concept of reanimation.

Reanimation of this kind was
a really big fear in Poland

in the 17th century.

They were really
afraid of revenants.

Revenant might not be a term

that many people
are familiar with.

It actually comes from
the French word revenir,

meaning to come back, and it
describes a number of creatures

that rise from the dead.

If the idea behind
the demonic like beings

known as revenants
sounds familiar,

it's because the
concept would overlap

into what we now
call the vampire.

Many folklores suggest
that there was a perceived

outbreak of vampirism in
most of Eastern Europe

during the 17th and 18th
centuries where many individuals

reported seeing violent acts

perpetrated by recently
deceased individuals

who continued to walk the earth.

One famous tale in
1674,

a Polish man rose from the dead,

and he was going around sucking
the blood of his neighbors.

His nocturnal
wanderings only stopped

when the body was decapitated.

Historians suggest
materials made of iron

like the small lock

were used to keep members
of the undead at bay.

There are hundreds
of burials like this

across the Baltic states.

In Poland, in Bulgaria,
and in other areas.

Vampire burials were so
pervasive at this time

that officials
actually banned them

to try to tamp down
on the superstitions

about the creatures.

However, this is the only time

a child has been
found buried this way.

Many scholars today, believe
that the legends we now know

as vampires first originated
amongst Slavic people

as early as the fourth century.

The word vampire itself

is thought to be derived
from the Latin word impurus,

meaning impure or unclean.

Could these remains really
belong to early blood suckers?

Let's see what
our experts think.

Dr. Ed Barnhart
believes we are seeing

what he calls
apotropaic burials.

Burials conducted
in a specific manner

with the intention
of warding off evil.

Practically speaking,
shackling someone's toe

is not going to prevent
them from getting up.

But their talismans,
the material mattered,

the placement mattered,

but they were basically
magic incantations

that prevented that
body from coming back.

But Barnhart suggests

that the reason this child
may have been considered

a revenant like vampire
could be due to ignorance

of a more real world condition.

Somehow or another,
these people

were mistreated
or misunderstood.

Perhaps they had
a mental illness

that people didn't
sympathize with,

but the remedy was
always the same.

Keep that body in its grave,

make sure that it can't
wriggle out of the dirt

and come for us

During the time of the plague,

they probably
overreacted in fear

and that might be what
we're seeing here.

It logically makes sense to me

that the 6-year-old
was probably targeted

because he was sick first,

and they wanted to make
sure that whatever it is

that he had didn't spread.

Our verdict.

We're going with
superstitious burial.

There has never
been tangible proof

over the last several centuries

to establish the existence
of revenant like vampires.

But whatever was going
on with this child

spooked these people enough
to bury him in this way.

For many people of faith,

the Bible is recognized
as the word of God,

a sacred scripture handed
down from the heavens.

But in this next story, we're
cracking open a spiritual text

that's rumored to
be of unholy origin.

The National Library
of Sweden in Stockholm

holds a collection of
more than 18 million items

that date back over
a thousand years.

What's the biggest draw?

Well, history buffs,
religious scholars, believers,

and nonbelievers alike, all
find themselves drawn to this.

It is believed

to be the largest preserved
medieval manuscript

in the world.

The Codex Gigas, famously
called The Devil's Bible,

and it's easy to see why.

Weighing 165 pounds,
this is an 800 year old

620 page book said to be made
from the skins of 160 donkeys

or possibly calves.

Within the pages of
this historic tome

is a terrifying
depiction of the devil.

But how the book was made
and by whom is a mystery.

There's a really
interesting legend

about how this book was created.

They say that there was
a monk at the monastery

where this was
created in Bohemia.

He committed some
kind of grave sin,

and he was sentenced
to be walled up alive.

He said, please, I
will write a book

with all of the knowledge
in the world overnight,

and then can I escape
this punishment?

And the Abbott said, sure.

He tried to write this book
in one night, it didn't work,

so the devil appeared
to him and said,

"I'm happy to write this
book for you in one night,

you just have to
give me your soul."

And the Codex Gigas or the
Devil's Codex was created.

This origin story
isn't the only unsettling tale

surrounding the book.

There's another account
of a museum caretaker

who suffered a mental breakdown

after being trapped
with the book

inside the national
library overnight.

And if that's not spooky enough,

there's also another mystery

of what's been torn
from the book's pages.

There was a lot in
this book,

aside from the pictures
of the devil in heaven,

the Old Testament,
the New Testament,

calendars and
ecclesiastical texts,

a dictionary of
medical knowledge,

and even text for an exorcism.

However, there are
some pages missing.

Some people think the
missing pages from The Codex

contain an incantation
used to summon the devil

where they torn out to keep
people from doing that,

we can't speculate, but
we did ask our experts

to speak to the mystery of
who made this book and how.

First, is this the work
of one man

on one sleepless night?

Well, that's half right.

One of the studies that
have been done in recent times

is a handwriting analysis,
and to our surprise,

it turns out that the text part

was almost certainly
written by a single person.

The handwriting is identical
throughout the book.

But as far as the
rest of the story, not so fast.

Even if it was penned
by a single person,

it's virtually impossible

that it was done
in a single night.

The kind of ink that they
used back in those days,

that took hours in and of itself

to dry before you
could turn the page.

So even if you
accept the man was possessed,

the ink wouldn't
have cooperated.

The National Library of Sweden

set out to find how
long it would've taken.

They've done a little
bit of math or calculation

on just how long it
might take a monk

to accomplish this work.

You figure they work
six days a week,

taking Sunday off of course,

working six hours a
day, you might say,

but trim that down to three
because of all the activities

that a monk will have
to do in his day.

But then when you
do that calculation,

it comes out to be 20 or 30
years of dedicated effort

in order to accomplish this.

As for the
devil's portrait,

it's worth noting that
the Dark Lord's image

comes immediately after another
full page artistic depiction

of heavenly Jerusalem.

That has left some suggesting

that the person
who drew the devil

actually made a two page spread

that contrasts a symbol of
salvation against one of evil.

I think perhaps this
was the work of a monk

who was dedicated to
elucidating the mysteries

as relate to the devil

and thought it would
be a contribution

to society and the church

to spend year after year,
decade after decade perhaps

creating this incredible work.

Our verdict, man made, or
maybe we should say monk made.

The devil may be in the details,

but according to our experts,

he's not behind this
centuries old text.

Burial sites,

storage containers,

or drinking goblets for giants

all have been offered
as explanations

for these next odd structures.

The problem is, trying to
find the correct answer

could kill you.

It's March, 2014 in
the Xiang Khouang Planie

in Laos Highlands.

Amateur archeologist
Alexander Kerekes

sets out to capture a
mysterious sight on film

for one of the first times ever.

His footage shows thousands
of large stone jars

scattered a few feet apart
throughout the field.

These huge hollow jars
are different sizes

and look almost like

they grew out of the
vegetation around them.

The fascinating thing is some
of these jars are humongous.

You ask yourself, how
did they get here?

How did the people
transport them there?

How were they built?

Eric Grundhauser says,

the stone jars have baffled
scientists and locals

since French archeologists
first studied them in the 1930s.

These giant stone jars
date back almost 3000 years.

They have these nearly perfectly
round apertures at the top.

They stand anywhere
from 3 to 10 feet high.

Some of them weigh
as much as 14 tons.

There is no written
history

about the origin of these jars,

but local legend points to an
ancient king of the giants.

The story goes

that Khun Cheuang won a
decisive battle,

and to celebrate, he
wanted to create a feast

with this local
Laos-Laos rice wine.

And so he created all
of these giant cups

for his giant army.

Others have speculated

that these artifacts may
have had a more practical use

for travelers of
the ancient world.

One theory is that
these jars were placed

along an ancient trade route

and that they acted sort
of as storage containers.

So as travelers passed
through the area,

they could come here, leave
the goods in one of these jars,

and then another traveler
could come pick them up,

almost like an ancient dropbox.

Yet another theory
is that these weren't used

for sustenance in life,

but instead were part
of a ritual of death.

The concept that
these jars

would've been used as
burial earns is backed up

by the findings of
some archeologists

who in a nearby cave
found some human remains

and some ashes.

The simple fact
that these jars

have survived is an anomaly.

They lie on the site of
the Secret War in Laos,

where the US government
dropped more bombs

on the country in
the 1960s and 70s

than they used in Germany
and Japan combined

during World War II.

The area is off limits
to most since the region

is littered with
mines and active bombs

making it too dangerous
to study properly.

But let's see what our
experts can uncover.

Dr. Ed Barnhart
explores whether

there's any credence to the
legend of the giant king.

Giants

are in virtually every
folklore around the planet.

It might be something to do

with finding dinosaur
or mammoth bones.

Mammoth skulls were the
origin of cyclopses,

but archeology has yet to
produce a single skeleton

of a giant humanoid creature.

So I can rule out
that these jars

are made by and for giants.

Then could these
containers have been used

as part of an ancient
form of dropbox

as Grundhauser suggested?

These jars are leading
up towards northern India,

and that would lead one
towards the conclusion

that they are part
of a trade route.

People had to have
access to food and water.

They may have also needed places

to temporarily store the things

that they were transporting
and trade to secure them.

And Barnhart believes,

a recent discovery
supports this theory.

In a region called Assam,

they found another
65 of these jars.

The more we find of these jars

and see that there is a linear
pattern they're following,

the stronger the hypothesis

that they represent
a trade route

between India and
Southeast Asia.

I believe that these jars
represent a burial practice

that was very common in
that area at the time.

There is a cave nearby

that has what is now a
chimney drilled into it

and black soot.

We now realize that those
were for cremations.

Then they would remove the bones

and then put 'em in
a secondary burial.

And then put the ashes
into one of the jars.

And we know this
because some of the jars

that have been opened had
human remains in them.

But scientists believe

the human remains
found in the jars

were placed there long
after the jars were created.

So the containers might have
been repurposed at some point.

Our verdict, we like Barnhart's
trade route storage theory.

The discovery of those
similar jars in India

is pretty convincing.

We know that ships have
traveled back and forth

between the Indian
subcontinent in southeast Asia

since prehistoric
times, carrying spices,

aromatic roots, and resins.

Still, the lack
of written records

and the fact that the
dangerous landscape

inhibits further study

means we may never have
a definitive answer.

There have been both
myths and documented cases

of civilizations
living underground.

Have we just found
proof of another one?

Let's travel to
a mysterious spot

at the edge of the
earth to find out.

It's August, 2020 in
Russia's Yamal Peninsula.

A TV crew is flying over
the remote permafrost

of the Siberian Arctic.

But suddenly, the scene goes
from beautiful to bizarre.

Emerging from the tundra is
a large opening in the earth.

Back down on the ground,
a research scientist

captures the giant maw of
the 65 foot diameter pit

from right on the
edge of the precipice.

As he walks along the brink,

he snaps photos
of the packed dirt

that rings the circumference

and the sheer gray rock
that stretches down

to an unseen depth.

Author Jason Martell says,

this is just one of more
than a dozen similar chasms

found recently in the region.

We have to wonder
what is the cause

of these massive holes?

They don't seem natural.

They seem out of place.

Martell says,
some suspect these pits

could be the mouths of tunnels

leading to an ancient
underground civilization.

Ancient humans first
started taking shelter in caves

as much as 1.8 million
years ago.

But it wasn't until
the late 1600s

that a scientist
named Edmond Halley

proposed that a larger open
space existed within the planet,

possibly inhabited by
humans or other creatures.

One offshoot of
Halley's Hollow Earth theory

suggest that advanced
prehistoric people

made a honeycomb of
caves in the earth

from which their descendants

still terrorized those
living up on the surface.

This is what's known
Troglodyte architecture.

A Troglodyte is a person
who lives in a cave.

And Martell says, there's
another storied example

out of California.

Hopi legends speak of
an advanced race

of lizard people,

not reptilians, but
worshipers of lizards

who built a great city under
what is now Los Angeles.

They did this to
shield themselves

from some type of
cataclysmic fires.

But apart from the
Troglodyte Civilization Theory,

Martell says, these
holes could have

an even scarier
modern explanation.

During the Cold War,
the Soviets engaged

in several secret,

yet somewhat reckless
nuclear tests in the region.

Would we really be surprised

if this crater is
the result of recent

or even prior Russian
nuclear detonation tests?

This isn't the only
strange hole on Russian soil.

In the 1970s, the
Soviets drilled the cola

super deep borehole, now the
deepest manmade hole on earth

reaching down
almost eight miles.

They claimed the project
was purely for research,

but could these mysterious
tundra holes be connected?

Let's see what our
experts can unearth.

Theoretical physicist
Dr. Michio Kaku analyzes

if this could be the
result of a nuclear blast.

The crator created
by nuclear detonation

does not look like this at all.

Plus, the killer
application here

is a geiger counter that
looks for signs of radiation.

If it was a nuclear blast,
you'll find evidence

of radioactive
strontium, iodine, cesium

scattered throughout the area.

And we find nothing.

No alpha, beta, gamma radiation,

it's a perfectly
non-radioactive area.

So could
this be an example

of Troglodyte architecture?

There is
evidence

that ancient civilizations

did move underground during
times of extreme weather,

during times when ice was
appearing on the planet.

Unfortunately, we don't
find anything in here

from an archeological
point of view

that indicates that
this was manmade.

You don't find any staircases.

You don't find anything

that indicate that this
would be an entrance

into an underground
civilization.

So if this hole
wasn't made by humans,

then could it be the result

of a natural disaster
like a meteorite strike?

When a
meteorite hits,

it has a tendency to take the
material that's in the center

and flip it over onto the edges.

And when you look at these,

we don't find that reversal
of stratigraphy at all.

You're just seeing a
combination of materials here,

which leads you one to believe

that this is what's called
an endogenic explosion

that came from the inside,

causing the material
to explode outwards.

And Kaku thinks,
he knows just what caused

that outwards explosion.

This is tundra.

Tundra has vegetation that
froze thousands of years ago,

and as we have global warming

and as the tundra
begins to thaw out,

this vegetation releases
organic gases like methane gas.

These methane gas
will often collate

rise to the surface
and create a dome.

These domes, in
fact, are unstable,

and eventually the
dome collapses.

Methane is potentially explosive

and it has enough energy to
create a hole of this nature.

Our verdict, this
is likely what's known

as a gas emission crater

caused by methane that
built up underground

and was then released
by climate change.

The explosions are
described as going off

like a huge bottle of champagne

throwing debris
hundreds of feet,

and setting off gas fires
that burn for over an hour.

The Nazca Lines of Peru

are world famous for their
strange geometric shapes.

But on the other
side of the world,

we found another set
of impressive

and mysterious markings.

The question is, who
made them and why?

Wadi Wisad, Jordan.

In this swath of the black
desert is an ancient site

local Bedouins called
"The Works of Old Men".

It was discovered by
Westerners in the 1920s

when pilots flying over
the desert looked down

and saw this,

a series of dark
circles on the desert floor.

They look like enormous wheels.

A closer look reveals,

the circles are made
of arranged rocks.

Some of the circles are bisected
by winding strips of stone,

while others seem to have
lines resembling spokes.

It was a wonderful
experience to just fly

from one to the other to try
and understand what they were

because they are unique in
this particular landscape.

None of them, as far as I'm
aware, have been excavated.

There are fascinating,

but as yet completely unrevealed
in terms of their function.

It's that
mystery, which has led some

to an extraterrestrial
explanation.

In the 1968 book,
"Chariots of the Gods",

it was speculated
that the Nazca Lines

were actually built
as landing sites

or as a way for
people to communicate

with extraterrestrials, which
has led others to speculate

that perhaps the black wheels
of the desert in Jordan

are built for the same purpose.

The theory that
extraterrestrials

might have been present
in antiquity isn't new.

Sumerian texts speak of a
group of God-like beings

known as the Anunnaki, who
some say we're alien visitors,

but do we see anything here

that suggests an
alien influence?

First, we're one of
this area's

ancient civilizations
behind this?

Jordan has
fantastic archeology,

like Petra is the
most amazing example.

Petra was made by the Nabataeans

somewhere in the third
or fourth century BCE.

The Nabataeans were
highly resourceful engineers

who managed to build an
empire in the desert,

constructing dams,
canals, and reservoirs.

Problem is, these
circles are way older

than the Nabataean culture.

So digging some
of these up,

we can get in a date
based on the rock itself,

and those dates are coming
back very, very early.

The earliest of these wheels
date back 8,500 years.

We know there
were nomadic tribes

in the area at the time.

So could these be
the remains of camps?

Nomadic people,
oftentimes,

they wanna band together

for safety, and
they wanna be close,

but they also need to subdivide
that area practically.

So another theory of these
areas between the spokes

is that they are subdivisions

of where various clans are
living within the property.

Another theory suggests

that the wheels may have
had the same purpose

proposed for another ancient

and mysterious rock
structure, Stonehenge.

If you go with
the idea of Stonehenge

being a astronomical clock
or an astronomical calendar,

then this could be an
astronomical calendar

that we see from other
indigenous people here on earth.

Another hypothesis is that
it was actually a compass

helping the ancient people
navigate through these regions

during this time.

But we admit these
are just best guesses.

Who knows?

Perhaps they were
made to communicate

with extraterrestrials,
real or imagined.

If you look at

the unconformity of the
structure,

what really makes
it very difficult

to figure out what it
initially was designed for.

So in the end, when you look
at these kinds of structures,

all you have is speculation

of what actually they were
used for and who used them.

Our verdict,
unexplained structures.

These circles were clearly made

by ancient people
of the Middle East,

but we don't know who,
let alone their purpose.

The secrets of these
structures may have died

with the unknown old
men the Bedouins credit

for their construction.

Strange discoveries
continue to challenge

what we think we
know about the past,

and who knows what
we'll uncover next.
