we are in a boulangerie,

which, of course, is a bakery.

Brickman and I, we have opened
this boulangerie

for one very specific reason.

If you look around in here,

you'll see there's many objects.

Today's build will require you to
come into our boulangerie.

Take one item,
perfectly replicate it.

So at the end of the build,
you switch it out

and it replaces the actual item
that is in our boulangerie.

Oh, you've got to be kidding me.

At the end of today's build,

we will have a very special
guest come in.

They have to determine what is real,
what is a Lego build?

Brickman will also be scoring
the builds out of 20.

My 20 points will be judged on
exactly

how it replicates the object.

I will look at the items side
by side

directly next to each other.

But I'm going to be looking at
which object you choose.

For example, like hiding
something that's

way back in the back corner.

You're going to get much less of
a difficulty score,

whereas if you choose something
that's bold and outlandish,

you would get a very high
difficulty score for that.

If you can fool our special
guest,

you'll get an additional three
points.

Those three points could come in
handy at the end.

They could be all the difference...
Definitely.

..so you really do want to make
sure

that your build can fool the eye.

So a possible 23 point build.

How long do you think would

are a lot of lovely objects.

Like for me, I love the paintings,

but also there are a lot of big
objects like a chair or a table.

To find the right way between too
big and too small, I think,

it's really hard in this
boulangerie.

When doing a replication

you are limited in what the Lego
bricks can do.

How would you do the texture?

It all comes down to the shape

and the shine of the bricks.

I lived in a German bakery.

Like it's really similar to a
boulangerie.

When I come home,
I always have cakes and bread.

So yeah, I love this theme.

The challenge today is to
replicate the item

from the French boulangerie.

Which is two suitcases,

and inside one suitcase is
knitting stuff.

What's the easy bit?
What's the hard bit?

Um, like this case is really
hard to do.

Like, not like a straight shape.
The curves too, isn't it?

Like even the top here is curved.
It's not like straight.

Yeah that's true.

The suitcases, I think,
are really hard,

because I have to look at every
detail on the suitcase.

But the hardest part,
we have to build,

like all stuff inside of the
suitcase,

like four balls of wool.

This one, it's going to be pretty
difficult

because I don't have these colours.

But having the big brick
feels amazing.

CHORAL SINGING: # Oh. #

I think it's pretty awesome that we
won like three times now.

When you want to win the brick
again,

you have to go like with a risk.

I'm pretty confident that you
can make it, Felix.

I feel like we were meant to
get this one.

Look, we went wood grain is very
hard to do.

A wood grain pattern isn't just
mashing colours

that are similar in this colour
palette,

it's actually following a
particular pattern

and curves and loops in the
right place.

Not like army camouflage
that's just random.

You're going to lay the most
Lego bricks by far.

Yeah.

Because it's all small bricks.
It's all plates.

Yeah.
None of it is in bricks at all.

I'm going to give you a huge
degree of difficulty,

as I say, I think it's the most
difficult one here.

But boy, you're going to have
to work hard.

It's kind of dawning on me that

this probably wasn't the best
choice.

So close in our hands.

We need to build the wheelbarrow as
accurate as possible,

and hopefully trick a special
guest into

not noticing that it's made out
of Lego.

In terms of shape, colour, style,

It is by far one of the hardest

The fact is that we are already
gone on this thing

There are a lot of rounded parts.

so it's definitely one of the most
difficult.

is quite intricate.

It's not as easy as you'd think.

How are you going to do the picture,
like a mosaic?

That's going to actually be the
easiest part to be fair,

it's the frame is going to be
the challenge.

As an Australian,
I'm sitting here going,

I don't want him to go home.

The gold pieces,

they don't have as many elements as
any other colour.

It's really challenging our
technical ability,

how good you are at using

the elements that are provided.

But we can do it.

We've got a lot of work ahead of us.

but if we punch it out and we get
this out today,

the risk will be well worth it,

themselves a bit dirty

with the last minute change.

be able to, uh,

have a replication that matches
the chess board.

This is the type of thing that
I like to do.

Brickman is looking for a replica,

so what I love to build at home is
like one to one stuff.

I've built like, a chandelier,

and I recently started building
vintage toys,

so this is kind of in my
wheelhouse.

This is like the first thing we saw
in there that was just like -

It's eye catching.

It's the most colourful object
in there.

So I think that's kind of fun.

Strategy at the moment is to get
the base and the legs up.

so then we can really focus on
the detailing

that's around the said table.

So much of this, I feel,

will come down to the fine details,

But you can't put fine details on
something that's not there.

Our Danish team, Peter and Ida,

they gave up the small artwork.

It's a great example that it
comes down to

how you feel in the build.

And Peter was just like,
"I'm not feeling it."

It was the colour, wasn't it?

As many million bricks as we
have in the brick pit,

we don't have infinite of
everything.

There's a very limited amount of
gold Lego elements.

So he was really struggling with
the frame and so he made a call.

Now the reason that they went those
was purely colour based,

because those little sweets
are very complementary

to the Lego palette.

That's why they went down that
path.

Don't you think I should keep
it in this height,

and then the bottom can come white?
Yep.

HAMISH: Shane and Dianne -
we're giving back our wheelbarrow,

we're taking an oil painting.

It's right next to another one that
has the same frame.

Correct.

So the eye is immediately got
a comparison.

Not only is there the intricacy of
the frame that goes around,

there's a light on it.

They need to go at like world record
pace, don't they?

Now, I don't know if it's because
this is an Olympic year.

but I can't do it in brown,
because the suitcase is brown,

and I have, like, a purple one,

I can't do it in purple because we
don't have pieces for that.

half of those pieces.

Why not have a flat board and

Today we're going to do a
replication challenge

where we have to take an item from
the boulangerie

and make a replica.

Roughly the same size.

Roughly the same colour.

We have changed our previous item
to cupcakes on a cake stand.

Peter is taking a swing at the
cake stand

and I'm trying to figure out
the cupcakes.

These cakes are going to be hard to
build

because it's a square,

a sphere on top of it with icing.

You know how hard it was to do
the string?

I could only imagine.

You know, what's the worst part?

Paper.

Do you know how thin paper is?

Do you think they will actually
recall that they were wrapped?

Wrapper? No.
No wrapper.

No, it wasn't wrapped.

This wrapper.

That's really tricky that wrapping.
Yeah.

So now I'm working on, you know,

trying out different techniques

and then I'll settle for the one
I like the most.

Do you care about the person
spotting your object?

I just want to show you something.

That's pretty obvious.

She's way easier to replicate
than that.

Yeah.

But apparently we like to do it the
hard way, you know?

I love your spirit.

The chances are really big that the
special guest

is going to spot our build,
because it's right in the middle.

So we need to replicate it as good
as we can.

I feel that we're going for
Brickman's man's points in this one.

OK, let's work on the next
part of the frame.

Yep.

Well, what's happening
at this point in the build -

we're um, constructing the frame.

It's pretty hard replicating
things.

Like, there's only so many Lego
elements.

There's only so many Lego
colours.

I mean, we picked a painting
that is quite intricate.

I think one of the other teams was
concerned about the amount of gold

on the frame and the
lack of gold bricks,

but it's really about how good
you are at

using the elements that are
provided,

and then find the way to use
the bricks.

Right, that's a corner for you to
replicate.

OK.

We also need to consider the
mosaic.

There's a lot of trial and error

into what looks good and what
doesn't.

I essentially make a template
so I can

just work on one little bit at
a time.

It's a lot easier to work on
smaller squares.

The biggest issue that we're
going to have

from the guest judge seeing it is
that it looks blocky,

and we've got to try and trick the
eye as much as we can.

One hour in.
Yeah.

You give back a tiny wheelbarrow...
Yeah.

..that no one was enjoying.

To then go and pick an oil painting
after Denmark themselves...

Yeah.

..the home of Lego refused the oil
painting.

This had either insanity...
Yeah.

..or glory written all over it.

Would it make it even sweeter
knowing that Denmark

didn't have the guts to do a
painting?

It would definitely make my day.

The international teams have all
built on TV before,

but I think we're nipping them.

It would be a big move.

It's been Germany,
Denmark so far

and for Australia to be...
give us the painting.

Give us that bloody painting.

And I just think in that spot,
stud is so hard.

Studs are the thing that gives away
that it's Lego.

That's true when you look at
the successful builds

in these kinds of
challenges,

the studs are covered up,
that really is the beginning.

If you look very closely around
the frame,

we've got a lot of nice part usage
in this, haven't we?

The effect is called greebling,

invented by the folks who did
Star Wars,

where basically you just get all
sorts of crazy shapes and parts,

and put them into make some sort of
a pattern.

And the corners and the middle
of the paintings are exactly that.

They're basically all just gold
greebles.

Just looking at some of the
pieces here on the side,

we have Jafar from Aladdin's staff,
but in the middle we have

King Neptune from The Little
Mermaid's trident.

So a beautiful nod, I think,
to two wonderful films.

Yeah.
I'm in art critic mode.

Well, it's the beret, isn't it?
The beret brings out on me.

And I'm sure there's many other film
references in there as well.

Brickman, let's talk about the
oil painting part.

Eight hours meant this is your
only choice.

This is the only way you could
have possibly gone

in making a mosaic.

In terms of a difficulty,

I think this is the second most
difficult here

behind Camille
and Caroline's cake.

We scratch the painting after

We actually replicated cupcakes,

delicious.

We really have to feel the builds
when you're building,

because otherwise it will be a
long nine hours.

90% of our builds is having fun.

Those stripes or chocolate
swirls are the key to fooling

our mystery guest for
the three points,

because they just don't look
like Lego bricks.

The second thing is the paper
on the outside.

That's one of the hardest
things,

I think, to try and replicate.

So I think you did well there.

We've really tried to make
it offset

and just not being like straight
up and down.

This is right up at the top in
terms of difficulty,

not only from a technical
perspective,

but the location of which you've
chosen is frightfully obvious.

The whole thing is hard to

The hard part, of course,
is the dome of the cake itself.

It's got a crisscross pattern
in it.

It's in a colour that, you know,

not a lot of Lego parts come in
those slopes and shapes.

It's so hard.

In terms of the stand,
the shape of the stand,

first doing this,
then doing that.

How is that as a solution?

I think the technique that you
went with

absolutely works for what it is.

It's such a hard shape to do.

Is it close to the real object?

That's the difficult part.

But I'm struggling to find a
way that

I would have approached that.

You have the hardest object here,

of that, there's no doubt.

Even with that,

I think you're going to need the
three points.

The three points is going to
guarantee your safety.

The cake, not good at all,
but flag quite good.

We just wanted to put the
original cake on our stand

because we really liked our stand.
