This is Planet Action!

On today’s episode, we check out Hollywood’s hottest action babes

so I wanted to see more of myself, more women

We take a trip to the planet Pandora as we check out top grossing film, Avatar

And hang out with Algerian Action star Sofia Boutella!

You know when you have dolls and you play dress up with them

Now you do the same thing but on a real body

But first, if you still think that only men can kick butt on screen

then you’ve probably never seen these three fierce females in action

Women in Hollywood movies are no longer expected to just stand behind a man and look pretty

these days they’re full-on action heroes in their own right

Here are our Top 3 Actresses Who Kick Butt

At number three, it’s Milla Jovovich

who set the bar high in The Fifth Element

and has gone on to headline every film in the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise

Maybe everybody thinks that like you know I'm super tough

and I kick butt or something like that.

But it's true

On the second place we find Zoe Saldana

star of three blockbuster franchises: ‘Star Trek’, ‘Avatar’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

I like action movies, so I wanted to see more of myself, more women

And our top spot goes to Michelle Rodriguez

After breaking out in 2000 with the boxing flick Girl fight

she’s become Hollywood’s go-to lady for big screen butt kicking

There's a really thin line between being

being a corny popcorn movie or a really cool action flick, you know?

Here’s our celebrity of the week, Sofia Boutella!

We’ll be checking out Algerian beauty Sofia Boutella

In case that name doesn’t ring a bell;

she’s the villainous henchwoman from ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’

the alien Jaylah from Star Trek: Beyond

undercover French agent Delphine on ‘Atomic Blonde’

and the title baddie from ‘The Mummy’ reboot

Yes, within a couple of years, Sofia went from unknown wannabe to big time movie star

But life wasn’t always a shiny bling and blinding camera flashes

When Boutella was 10, she and her family fled war-torn Algeria for a better life in France

The future star then focused on what she does best; dancing!

She literally become one of the best dancers in the world

touring with the likes of Madonna and Rihanna

She was also about to join Michael Jackson’s crew, but sadly he passed away before that came to fruition

A couple of years ago she successfully switched careers to be an actress

And due to her ballerina experience and the accompanying physique, she’s now an in-demand action star

something that feels completely natural to her

When I was a kid I had so much energy

I was always playing in the dirt and mud. I had mud underneath my fingernails

and I was a proper fireball

And that… I don’t know in term of style, what it translated besides having a few holes in my clothes.

but umm...

And then I was a teenager. When I was a teenager, I was a tomboy

for a long time And then...

And then I had a time where I was a bit very cool

And now I feel like I’m more classic

, like I feel like I change all the time

While in her working life she still gets to be a tomboy, Sofia can’t exactly behave like that on the red carpet when promoting her films

There, instead, she shines like the star she is!

Always the center of attention

she continues to wow audiences wearing stunning designer outfits

I’ve been doing this since I’m a child

You know when you have dolls and you play dress up with them

Now you do the same thing but on a real body

That's how I look at it it's fun it's alot of fun

I mean i'm enjoyin this whole process, I love

I love all the dresses I love putting on a costum you know,so

Boutella makes rocking the red carpet look effortless

And while it’s clear she was born to do it, it’s still no easy feat

So fortunately for her, she gets a little help from the pros

You can’t possible do that on your own

I have a wonderful team that helps me achieve everything.

That helps for all of that to come to life

but I also have,I do have an opinion and I do have a say in the whole process

But I do have a team that helps me, absolutely

The most famous member of that team is none other than Tom Cruise

her co-star from ‘The Mummy

He’s been doing fancy press events for decades already, so he knows how to look like a superstar

He does give me his opinion

He does certainly give his opinion

He loves the dress that I’ve been wearing. We all love having fun with the clothes we’ve been wearing

and yeah then

But I should ask him what he thinks.

As in Tom, this one or this one

He will have an opinion, he loves it

This bombshell sure knows her stuff when it comes to action flicks

as just like Tom Cruise she does most if not all her stunts

Keep an eye out for this action babe as she is not done yet

We all recognize a big action hero or two

But when it comes to female action stars it's a little harder to name very many

and that's exactly the reason why we've lined up some of the hottest action babes in Hollywood

Hollywood’s it-girl Jennifer Lawrence has shown her tough side in both the ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘X-Men’ franchises

She surely knows her way around a bow and arrow

which of course took some practice leading up to the shoot of the ‘Hunger Games’ films

During filming though, Jen could let loose

I think we actually trained just to be able to film the movie

because once you start working there’s really… you can eat whatever you want

and you don’t have to worry about working out

because if you run up a hill in a movie you’re running up the hill for twelve hours a day

As one of the go to action babes in Hollywood right now,Zoe Saldana’s various roles clearly rule her resume

from films like 'Avatar’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Star Trek' just to mention a few

you wouldn’t want to leave her name out on any action blockbuster cast list

I like that list. I don’t… I don’t mind that list

If there’s a list that I’m going to be on, that one would be it.

I… thank you, I’m really happy for that

I didn’t have enough of that growing up

so the action icons that I had were Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton

and maybe some kung Fu fighter from one of those martial arts movies

I liked it, I like action movies. I wanted to see more of myself, more women

That’s something I do take a great pride in doing

Every time I’m able to incorporate physical abilities in a role

I know that there’s a little girl out there saying oh my god, thank god I had like women that I can follow or admire

Gina Carano is relatively new to the ass-kicking business

In films that is, because she is actually a former mixed martial arts artist!

You might know her from 'Fast & Furious 6', 'Deadpool' and 'Haywire'

In that last film, she kicked Michael Fassbender's ass so hard that she actually hurt him!

She fights better than most men

And in 'Fast & Furious 6', she got to take on another ass-kicking chick, Michelle Rodriguez

Oh it was great. And I think there are some really powerful female characters in this film

And I’ve never really been around other female actresses so that was wonderful

keep fighting

Michelle may very well be THE example of an ass-kicking action chick!

Franchises such as 'Fast & Furious' and 'Resident Evil' have earned Rodriguez a pretty great action movie career

Michelle doesn't care that much about her appearance

and is one of those rare actresses who only likes to get her body in shape just before she takes on a role for a film

''I train just for the movies

You know, like when I have my, my action sequence I'll go and work with the boys, the stunt coordinators, and I get those sixty moves down and figure it out.

But for the most part, you know, in my down time I don't. I just eat right

You know, if I'm not spending the energy, I don't eat the energy

Someone else you shouldn't mess with is American mixed martial arts champion Ronda Rousey, who has recently moved into the world of acting

Rousey's mother was a World Judo Champion

and following in her footsteps, at just 21 Ronda became the first American to win an Olympic medal in judo

. After making the move into mixed martial arts, the charismatic athlete was contacted by Sylvester Stallone

who wanted to create a next generation of action heroes for 'The Expendables 3

Rousey also had a cameo appearance in 2015's 'Furious 7

including a spectacular fight against Michelle Rodriguez

Yeah, baby! That was hot

These ladies sure know how to present strong and independent on-screen characters

And we bet they can whoop the asses of most guys any day

Michelle Rodriguez and Zoe Saldana actually did work together on a project

One that even went on to become the highest grossing movie of all time

Set on the far away Planet of Pandora

let’s look back at the 2009 Blockbuster, ‘Avatar’

One man who has several classics to his name is Mr. James Cameron

'The Terminator' 1 and 2, 'Aliens', 'Titanic'

all films written, produced and directed by Cameron

But then in 2009, there came an epic adventure everybody still talks about today

'Avatar'; a film they almost didn't allow him to make, if it wasn't for those previous hits

If I hadn’t made those other films the studio wouldn’t have trusted me to make this film

Because even though it has action and adventure and all those things

it also has some things that they wouldn’t necessarily want to put in a major film

you know Some environmental themes, an anti-war message, things like this that

You know But they had to take it all because that was the movie I wanted to make

In short, the story follows a battle on the alien moon Pandora

a beautiful green world full of rich minerals, between humans from Earth and the local tribe, the Na'vi

A paralyzed marine, played by Sam Worthington, visits the planet through an avatar

a remotely controlled body, with his DNA and that of the aliens mixed together.

Although Cameron has had the idea for the film since 1995

he waited over 10 years to make it, until the necessary technology was available to achieve his vision

you know,I always intended to do the main characters,

the Avatar characters and the Na’vi characters using computer generated techniques

And there was a period of time where the technology was not mature enough to do this properly

And right at that moment in 2005 I though alright other people are starting to do this

We’ve seen some good examples

It’s not quite there yet, so now is the time

Because I didn’t want somebody else to go solve it completely

That wouldn’t’ be any fun. I wanted us to be the ones that solved it.

And that he did!

The technology used for 'Avatar' was so new, that sometimes Cameron and his team didn't even know how to deal with it

It was still all so new that as we were creating the process, I was having to learn how to do it

But in some cases, nobody knew how to do it and we were actually inventing the process as we went along

So that was a very exciting time, because we really felt like pioneers.

Not only by creating a whole new world that looks amazing

but through the groundbreaking technology used to film it, with cameras that were specifically designed for this movie

superimposing CGI images over live footage shot in real time

making audiences really feel like a part of that world

And with multiple sequels announced, we're excited to see what technologies James Cameron will come up with next.

If there’s one franchise that makes lovers of practical effects drool all the time, then it has to be the ‘Fast and the Furious’ series

Car crashes, explosions, stunts and actors performing live threatening maneuvers, yes, they’re all legit!

But even within the saga

some are more extreme than others, so let’s take a look at our top 3 ‘Fast and Furious’ stunts.

We kick things off with the climactic scene from ‘Fast Five

Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and his crew steal a safe and drag it with them through the streets of Rio de Janeiro

They’re going quite fast and the money filled vault is quite the burden, it goes all over the place, demolishing everything in its path

While it worked fine with a fake safe that’s being pushed against object designed to fall apart on impact

in reality though, this heist would have been impossible to pull off

Editors from a magazine have asked a physicist to do the math

and he calculated that it would take about 467 cars of that make to gain enough horsepower to drag the vault at the speed in the scene

Aww,well, who watches ‘Fast and Furious’ scenes for the realism anyway

The Rock sure as hell doesn’t

I've just never been that guy. Never been into engines and

get under the hood.What engine you got there? Let me fix it, and all that shit

It's not my thing. I can appreciate it though, but it's just not my thing

Today’s number two spot is for the flip car from ‘Fast & Furious 6’

It’s the most immoral and selfish way to get through traffic

as it causes so much havoc, you’ll only leave a bigger jam behind

Then again, the movie’s villain doesn’t use it for that purpose

Instead he drives headfirst into incoming cars and tosses them in the air, while not slowing down one bit

Unlike the vault scene this one could actually be pulled off for real

Well sort of.

They cheated a bit by using a rail to make sure the flying vehicles wouldn’t land on the flip car itself

The cars in this film amaze

They do things that normal cars don't do. They're faster

They have these injections and all that stuff

And sometimes they are built from nothing.

And the flip car that my character drives was built from scratch

Basically, built from scratch, which is incredible. And it did exactly what it was supposed to do

There wasn't a fake one.

It was the real one

And on to our winner, the scene from ‘Furious 7’ where they drive out of an airplane and land using parachutes

Again, there were no special effects used, they

they actually kicked them out of the plane for real

The sequence in question was also tested by a physicist

who came to the conclusion that there’s no real reason why it couldn’t happen as depicted in the film

With the best possible equipment and a very strong chute it works, although landing in the right spot is tricky

Accelerating to 200 miles an hour the second they hit the ground, as they do in the movie

might push the envelope of what’s actually achievable, however

You gotta love it.

You gotta do it man, and I think this movie is exciting

because we keep people guessing and you never know what's gonna be next.

None of the stuff from the eighth film made the list

so who knows, maybe they’ll top themselves again when number nine gets released

One of the biggest stars from the Fast and the Furious franchise has got to be Agent Luke Hobbs AKA Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

He went from being a megastar in the WWE, to being one of the biggest and highest grossing action stars in the world

Dwayne Johnson has jumped around through a number of careers, but his fans know him best simply as ‘The Rock’

well Rock has come back!

On the second of May 1972, the muscular action hero was born in California

Growing up, Dwayne traveled around a lot with his parents, and watched his father, professional wrestler Rocky Johnson, performing in the ring

I had so much fun

… the physicality part of wrestling was a lot of fun

What was more fun than that was the live crowd interaction that I would have, you know, and that became my theater.

it's mu stand up comedy stage every night, so I always appreciate that part of that business

It was that love of performing that led Johnson into acting, where he naturally began his career in action films

The goal then was to work in all different genres, even though I knew it was gonna take time

cause I did three or four action movies in a row, which I got that, by the way, and I got the transition, and it made sense.

In 2002, he reprised his popular character from ‘The Mummy Returns’ for his first starring role, in ‘The Scorpion King’

He was paid more than $5 million dollars, then a world record for a first-time leading man

The competitive side in me, I relish in that. I love that. It's like alright, put the gloves on. Pow, pow, pow!

Dwayne went on to star in a string of action comedies, with his popularity snowballing

I love making comedies. And I love exploring family movies

I love that, ‘cause family is everything to me

That’s right, Johnson is also a devoted father, and often takes on projects he can watch with his young daughters

like ‘The Tooth Fairy’ or ‘Race to Witch Mountain

It's very unique and special, so I relish that

, that we can sit together and watch Daddy and be like: Daddy's pretty cool, huh?"

But it’s never long before the macho star is back in action hero mode

like when he joined the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise

climbing aboard the fifth film in the pulse pounding series, and appearing in every installment since

There’s always something cool about if there’s an issue

somebody punching another guy right in the mouth

Other hits where Dwayne got to show off his muscles include ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation

San Andreas’ and ‘Pain & Gain’, opposite Mark Wahlberg

a few years ago we did a movie fast and I've know jason for years

with this great chemistry and when we were testing this idea with the audiences

they were saying we want tha' we like you too

Thankfully, he remains down-to-earth and levelheaded about just what makes going to the movies so special

you get lucky to make good movies and people like them, that’s great,

, if you get lucky to make a good movie and it comes out at a time where a lot of people appreciate that it’s come out during this time, and creating some entertainment

that makes people feel good, it’s great

When it comes to working out, there are two particular parts of the body almost every man likes to focus on

that’s right we’re talking about abs and chest muscles

that’s right we’re talking about abs and chest muscles

We begin with the ultimate six-pack abs of Zac Efron

Zac Efron is known to have a ridiculous body

His abs in particular, are up to par

So, one way you can get nice, blocky abs like Zac Efron, is to do weighted sit-ups.

You're not going to get those kind of abs just doing crunches that are body weight

You have to grab some weight, get it behind your head, hold it in front of your chest and bang out as many sit-ups as you can

Go till muscle failure, that's how you see the most results, and that should get a really nice six-pack on your stomach

It’s clear you’ll need to do thousands of weighted crunches

Thousands of them

So what kind of weights do you have to hold while doing that?

Depends on what you're able to carry

If you're just starting out with the weight, I wouldn't do more than ten pounds behind the head

always making sure your chin is always on your chest, your elbows are out to the side

and you're exhaling as you squeeze those abs

That is super important to get the breathing down correct as well.

What’s going to bring you better results?

A six-pack that’s trained one time a week or a six-pack that’s trained two times a week?

Exactly. The six-pack that’s trained two times a week

The more stimulus to a muscle, the more growth

Just don’t - and this is very important

don’t overdo it.

Your body needs time to recover between those workouts

And the harder you train your abs, the more rest they need

So be sure to build in at least a few days between sessions

The next body part we look at will be the chest muscles

And when talking about chest muscles, we can’t think of any other human being alive better to turn and look at than Dwayne Johnson

Whatever this hulking beacon of human positivity does to get chest muscles like that

we’re sure lots of men out there want to do it too

Dwayne Johnson, also known as the Rock, is a specimen.This dude has an incredible body

Probably one of the strongest looking guys in the entertainment right now

For you to get a body like Dwayne Johnson, you have to eat a lot of food

Have you ever watched him on Instagram? That dude knows how to eat.

Eat? Sure. We can do that, no problem

If you want to get chest muscles like The Rock, you absolutely do not need to go on a crash diet

Not eating would literally starve the muscle when you should be feeding it instead

He also works out, and works out heavy

The guy lifts extremely heavy weights

That's the only you're going to get a chest like Dwayne Johnson

And if you don't lift heavy, you don't eat like a monster, you're not going to get that kind of body

All right, we get it. It’s all about working hard and lifting heavy

So now all you have to do is get to it!
