This is our very first live stream here
at Oxygen Films, so do bear with us

while we're checking things out.

So to introduce ourselves, my name is
Gage Oxley, I'm the Managing Director of

Oxygen Films and to join with me is Jack
Parr.

So Jack, do you want to tell the
audience a little about yourself as I

make sure we are running?

We're hoping that all you lovely people
who watch this where we live in tune in

today.

So yeah, me and Gage have worked
together for how many years now?

Couldn't I start five?

Five years. I've known you for five
years now. Gage cast me in my first ever

feature film.

So I'd say you started my career off.

And then we just carried on working
together and we worked on loads of

And then we worked on one called This
World We Live In, which did pretty good.

And yeah, it did really well at the
festival run.

And so we carried on working together,
carried on working together, and we've

just done another film together.

Do any more next month? Not just yet.

Just to introduce myself, I'm Gay Doctor
Managing Director of Oxygen Films, and

with me is Jack Parr, extraordinary
actor, who is with us as well.

So, we are first going to show off the
very first trailer for Wretched Things.

Wretched Things is our most recent short
film.

It's one of our most exciting and,
thankfully, ambitious projects. It was

ambitious for you, wasn't it? It was
ambitious.

I'm nervous.

Yes, it was quite intense.

So, we're going to show you the very
first trailer.

four extra things now.

We'll be showing it throughout the live
stream, so you might see it quite a few

times, but I hope you enjoy.

You know, I told people I was straight
since my mid -twenties.

It's one of my biggest regrets.

I feel like I lost my entire youth.

Our magazine reaches 2 million unique
readers every single week. That's 2

million eyes on you.

So that was the trailer for Wretched
Things.

That is coming out, as you saw at the
end there, January 2019.

So before we go further into Wretched
Things, we are going to ask quite a few

questions about that. That's our most
recent project.

First, we're going to talk about This Is
Where We're Living, which is quite a

big project for us.

We shot that film about two years now.

Is that how I meant? Since we shot it,
yeah, it's mental.

It really does try, especially because
This World We Live In came out earlier

this year.

It's been quite a rollercoaster ride,
hasn't it?

Feels like we shot that this summer.

Yeah, but it was quite a long time ago.

Yeah, This World We Live In was our
first kind of... major short film

and it was quite an intense experience
for you, wasn't it? It was, yeah.

I remember sitting down and we were
talking about the character and the

storyline and you were, I think you were
a bit nervous about kind of getting

into it. Yeah. Do you think that was a
good decision to jump into it now?

100%, like I was so nervous to take that
role on and some of the things that we

did were really challenging and so I was
so nervous and obviously for people to

see what was in the film as well was
nerve -wracking but

Taking that leap and going there has
changed how I've gone on in a role and

I've gone on to do next.

It worked out very well.

It was a bit of a risk for me. When I
was going for the role, it was a risk to

take the things I was going to do, but
it was the best risk I was taking.

Because it got me to different places.

It was a reason.

And it was a different character for
you, I think.

One that you probably...

haven't really seen since maybe until
Wretched Things.

But I mean, would you, do you now feel
kind of more confident as an actor going

forward having had those challenges
raised?

After this world we live in and then
Wretched Things, I don't think there's

anything else that could possibly
challenge me now.

I literally think that I've been
challenged so much. Yeah, that's it.

Me and the lead actor Adam said that at
the end of it, if we can do this.

And we can do anything, like mental.

Good, okay.

So definitely, in the acting world right
now, I feel comfortable with normal

roles.

So This Way We're Living has been seen
by, on YouTube alone, about a quarter of

a million people.

We've had festival circuits around the
world, reaching nearly every continent.

Antarctica, we are coming for you.

But we've had a really nice reaction
from audiences internationally.

How do you kind of take a lot of the,
you know, some of the comments that

got, reading them and kind of seeing
positive, such a positive, you know,

response and such an overwhelming
response to something we created?

It's crazy because I remember when we
sat down and talked about this script

then a week later you bring the script
and then we just shot it a month later

and that was it and we just did it and
it got out there. I never thought it got

the reaction that it did. And then when
I started to see all the comments...

Hundreds and thousands of people
watching it. I was getting messages on

Instagram from people all over the
world, from Brazil, Spain, America, from

And people like, photographers were
messaging me out, phone calls from

from LA.

Hey man, I've seen your short film. I
was like, this is mad.

I did not expect that reaction.

Sometimes you can do a short film that
everyone's passionate about and then it

can just go.

Yeah. It just blows up.

You don't even know it's going to
happen. We all just did it because we

enjoyed the process and we just loved
filming.

And we just enjoyed the story and we
believed in it and we believed it was

to work. It was going to work, yeah. But
I didn't think that it was going to be

on that scale of people. No. I don't
think any of us did, to be honest. No,

definitely not. I mean, we, for me, I
shot it, I mean, we shot it in December

2016.

But we just kind of started, I started
working on it from Edinburgh Fringe, so

kind of August.

2016, was when I kind of started getting
the idea of doing something about

ChemSec, after seeing a really brilliant
player there.

And I think, you know, I'd just come off
a feature film set which was very, very

challenging and one that kind of made me
question whether or not I could

continue within the film industry and
kind of think, you know, whether or not

this was the right job for me. And then
having those responses from people

watching this where we're living has
kind of... that really did rejuvenate.

Yeah. Especially because it took, we
were on set five days. Yeah. It was a

day shoot and then we were done and
dusted and, yeah, I'm really, really

overwhelmed with the response.

Yeah. For me, like, this was, this was
the short film that changed my whole

perspective on acting. Like, acting for
me was just, was just a bit of fun and

playing around, it was a hobby, like,
and this, the amount of comments, like,

think we got, how many?

250 million? 250 million comments.
Pretty much every single comment was

this puts me, this is my life, this, you
know, made me cry.

And, like, seeing people, how people
reacted that way, was like, wow.

Like, making films is not really about a
bit of fun and stuff. You literally can

change people's minds, you know what I
mean?

Change people's lives, see things, and I
was like, for me, that was a big thing

for me. Yeah.

I mean, one of the overriding kind of
things that Oxygen Films has promoted

pushed is that, for us,

you know film is not something that is
just to be you know let you know there's

some films can wash you over and be fine
and you can watch them but

realistically you know we know that film
is such a powerful tool to help um

forge discussion to create a better life
for people to make people understand

perhaps the problems that they're having
a little bit easier um so for us it

really is kind of a very keen uh focus
that we need to continue creating

challenging topics that look at, you
know, interesting stuff. Some of the

comments we had on the film that he
mentioned was that, you know, someone

Russia who was like, you know, his
parents didn't know he was gay.

He felt it was really unsafe to come
out. And then the flurry of support that

he's had on our comment board, you know,
it's really, really touching.

And then the same for some of the other
films we've done. We've had letters

from, you know, so many people saying
thank you for creating this. I've now

realised I'm, you know... I should be
proud of who I am. I'm in a safe

environment to come out and to be who I
am. So that's kind of why we create the

content that we do.

So we're very, very proud of that.

Will Jordan has just joined. He says,

Will Jordan had a cameo role in... He
did, yes, he did. I completely forgot

about that.

He was, yeah. He did a fantastic job. Is
he on the winning team or the losing

team? The losing team. I think he was.

this, where we live in.

Now we went on to Wretched Things, which
we shot this summer.

How was that process for you?

I love it when you ask me.

This one.

For everyone who saw This World We Live
In, right, there was a couple of scenes

in there that were really challenging
for me and really out of my comfort

And then I didn't think I could be
challenged anymore.

And this one was. It was mad.

It was mad. It was the most challenging
role I've ever taken on in my life.

And I'm looking forward to seeing it.
And I'm looking forward for everyone to

see it. Because, again, it's going to be
it.

It's going to be another up on this
world we live in.

This was tough. This was really tough.

Yeah, I mean, that's all I can say.

It wasn't easy.

It really wasn't. It was so challenging.
The nature of the theme and the arc and

what the characters were going through
was tough.

And to try and get that into my head and
try and play Jack outside of his body

and go... This is Joey now.

I've really got to take myself out of
this situation because it's hard for you

to deal with that.

If you get lost in it and you kind of
don't take yourself out of it, it can be

hard and challenging. So, yeah, I had to
really, yeah, I went through some tough

times. But do you know what?

It was good fun as well. To challenge
yourself and do that and go, wow, I did

that. I'm proud of it.

You know, we're hitting things that
people aren't hitting in film.

You know, hitting these markers that...
Am I talking rubbish? No, no, you're not

talking rubbish at all. I completely
agree. I think, you know, the fact that

are doing something that not everyone
does is really, you know, we've got to

ourselves out different compared to
everyone else, I think.

I think Retro Things does that.

We did see the trailer earlier on at the
start of our live stream. We will be

showing it again in a few moments.

So if you have missed it, we will be

But yeah, you really went for it in that
role, I think.

Yeah, you were something else in that
one.

What are you both looking forward to the
most about working with each other

again? That's a good question.

You go first.

Am I going first? Okay.

I'm... For you, you're such a versatile
performer in that you really, really

take on a character and breathe and live
it.

And I know you said you disassociate
yourself from those people because you

to. Because those characters, you end up
playing a not -Jack part.

So you do have to disassociate. But for
me...

working with someone who really
understands the character and

The point where you know an actor has a
role definitely confirmed and properly

in their mind is when they start
thinking in the voice of the character.

And I think you do that. I think I've
seen your thought process as, Joey, your

thought process coming up with your new
character. I think I've already started

seeing some of the clogs starting to
turn.

How about you? Thanks.

So, Gage, when I first spoke to him, I
couldn't believe when I first spoke to

Gage how young he was. So, Gage was, I
think he was 17, right?

I was on set for a feature film, my
first feature film, and Gage was running

show and just knew so much about film. I
was like, this guy's a genius. I'm

thinking, wait till this guy's 30 years
old.

I can't understand how...

You know what I mean? I couldn't
understand how young you were and how

were, and I thought, it's just back to
me. I wanted to work with you again and

again, every time I worked with you
again, and I got the bigger roles and

bigger roles, because it was a speaking
role, then it was, you know, seven

scenes, then it was a lead role, and
this role, and having that one -on -one,

where we'd go and sit down and talk
about the role, or talk about these

things, I just love that you really
invest in the lead actor, or the actor,

and, you know, the production has to do
their thing, and you're, seriously on to

any problems, you come to me.

Anything's wrong, you come to me. This
is what we're going to do. And it just,

think we really work together well now
because we know each other well. Yeah.

And I love your vision and I think I
believe you like my vision.

100%. Yeah. And we balance with each
other. Yeah. And our ideas are great and

kind of get, boom, there's an idea and
there's an idea and we join up and we

just brainstorm and it works.

Thank you. So the chemistry is really
good. Yeah. So that's why I like it.

you. I'll be putting that on my resume.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is going on my
show reel completely.

But no, I think you mentioned it there,
that kind of collaborative process is

really, really important, especially for
scenes like the one we just watched in

this world we live in. That was a
challenging little day, was that? And

actually, that entire scene was shot in
one continuous day.

So, yeah, what was your kind of feelings
before going into that day and then

after that day? How did you find that?

The reason why it's challenging is
because, with a lot of opposite acting,

of the time actors haven't done it
before. So I've never been to a Chemsex

holiday, I've never done that.

So we obviously did a lot of research,
watched a documentary on Chemsex, and we

got advice from doctors.

Yeah, 50 -50 Dean Street were a really,
really good house.

And so going in there, I had to... And
the good thing about the character was,

he had never done that before.

It was his first time, so it was
challenging, but it was almost...

Refreshing in a way because it was new
to me and new to the character. So I had

to walk in there and go, what's going
on? This is weird.

It was a challenge because it's not a
nice place to be in.

So it's very vulnerable.

And lonely.

And it's like no one can help you now.

Once you're in there, you're trapped.

And he goes to try and get away, Joey.

He's like, I'm going to go now. This is
weird. And he gets stopped. No, stay.

And I'm like... Yeah.

It's a scary environment to be in. I
mean, yeah, it's a scary environment. I

think as an actor for you, it must have
been quite intimidating for a director.

That was my very first scene I shot,
which was kind of of that nature, of the

sexual nature.

And so for me, I was kind of very
conscious about how I directed and the

spoke and kind of the general atmosphere
of that day.

But the fact that we managed to film all
of that in one...

the day before we do have some more
questions so thank you for sending them

them down below but one of the you know

the things about that yes of course one
of the things about that filming day was

the day before we had to clear out the
basement of this student house in Leeds

completely because it was one of the
most

Terrifying that was more terrifying I
think than the following desert with so

many spiders We have to completely like
properly like clean it's obviously you

and the other actors. We had Jack Bell
kind of margin there. Yeah, we're gonna

be kind of Practically naked so we
couldn't have you know, like Everywhere

it was we're just yeah

Yes, I remember I had to bat a gum.

We've got Primark dressing gowns.

We were running on a low budget. You
did?

I wouldn't be having them back after
filming that.

So, yeah, that was kind of a little idea
about that

filming day.

Do you want to ask a question from
David?

David? David what?

Thanks for tuning in and asking the
question, David.

David said, looks like it was a fairly
technical...

Technically, challenging suit, can you
talk about filming difficulties?

Yeah.

Yeah,

I mean, there were quite... It was quite
a smooth show, actually, and I think it

was because we hadn't... We hadn't done
a short film in quite a long time. Like,

three years before was the first time
we'd done a short film. All of the other

years, we'd done feature films, and they
are typically much more exhaustive.

you know instead of five day filming we
were doing like 20 to 30 day shoots um

the budget for the features were far
more for this whole living it was about

pounds whereas our features were close
to 20 000 the differences were were huge

and so for us this kind of felt like a
walk in the park really we had about a

week of pre -production than a week of
production in about a week or so.

I remember on Christmas Eve you came
around to do the final voice -over. We

wrapped the film on Christmas Eve.

I got my parents as well. You did, yeah.

Game of Thrones box set.

Still not watched it, have you? No.

Two years ago and it's still not watched
it.

I was buying on about how much I wanted
to watch Game of Thrones and I had to

shoot Gamesport with Game of Thrones box
set.

That's a nice little insight.

That needs to go on the IMDB trivia.
Yeah, the trivia.

But yeah, I mean, really, it was a
tremendously challenging film to shoot,

actually the difficulties that came with
it were non -existent. We had such a

great crew on it. So Sian Carey, Beth
Fallon were kind of leading on it with

and you as well, in kind of production
and producer role.

But, I mean, them two, I've known them
for, about 11 years now.

And we've kind of continued on with
Oxygen and the Odyssey series.

Yeah, I mean, with them two, it was very
much, we got the show running and it

was quite smooth.

I don't think technically it wasn't,
nothing really went wrong technically.

was a five -day shoot and there was a
big crew for that short film. I think

there was quite a lot of people in
specific roles that really did their

well. Yeah, definitely.

So in terms of that, I don't think it
was...

We finished every day early, didn't we?
Yeah, we did. Oh, David.

We didn't mess up. We're pros.

We're pros.

Yeah, I mean, that was quite a good
question.

One of the issues we did have, actually,
on that day, the only issue we had was

with our card reader. Literally halfway
through filming the chem sex scene, the

card reader did break, and we had three
different people ringing around trying

to find it. It was very specialist.

piece of equipment that's super tiny,
it's literally a card reader, and in the

end I just literally pulled it apart,
folded a little piece of it, gaffed it,

put it back together in the kitchen of
the student accommodation.

While they were still filming, everyone
was still filming, it didn't stop at

all, it just carried on.

The show must go on when you're filming.
When you're working with actors, you

can do reshoots and you can hold things
back, but realistically you've got to

keep on going because...

lose you lose out otherwise so um yeah
um will jordan has asked where

do you both see yourself in 10 years
time i don't know where i see myself in

days time do you want me to start with
that one yeah please

um god i could have thought about this
yeah i mean in 10 years time i was 31

Oh, you're going to be a genius at 31.

I'll probably be dead.

I'll be out.

No, in ten years' time.

Do you know, I want to be in the same
position I am now, to be honest. I

obviously, it would be nicer to have
more money and to have more of an

about the films we make, because at the
moment it is a very big challenge to

promote the films and get... them seen
by the people that we know want to see

them and should see them to have that
kind of natural following of people who

look out for the film that would be
really really nice just to mean that we

we know the stuff we're doing is getting
out to the people who need to see it

but really I just want to be carrying on
making films and working with you How

old will you be in 10 years time?

Why do I have to think about it so long?
33.

33? At 33 years old.

At 33 years old?

In 33 years old? At 33 years old, I will
have two kids. Two kids?

A wife.

And a house.

That's family.

You said 10 years' time. You didn't say
an industry.

Oh, true. Okay.

That's me 10 years' time. But let's talk
about the industry.

I want to be just financially stable as
an actor and as a writer.

I want to be, you know, at least be
doing that full time.

I don't need to be earning millions as
long as I can pay the food and pay the

rent and act full time. And I want to be
able to be in a situation where I can

pick and choose my work that I really
want to work on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not

kind of taking it for the money and I
need the rent. I want to be working on

something I'm passionate about and that
I want to work on with you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you. Oh, we're
still on together. Yeah, I do want to

work together forever now.

I want to be the Godfather.

Yeah. Yeah, that's it.

Maybe that's a question we don't pose in
the livestream.

That's the livestream.

I'm going to extend that question,
though. Ten years' time, would you want

writing projects, directing projects?

Would you ever go into that? Oh, my God,
yeah.

Thank you. No worries. So, when I first
started acting, I was like, acting,

acting, acting. Like, I want to be an
actor, and that was it.

And then, after a while, I just started
writing shorts, and then I started

writing stuff, and the project got
bigger and bigger, and I started

sitcoms and on a feature film at the
moment I think I'm thinking oh my god I

actually really love writing I'd love to
be a writer now like I'd love to write

TV series and so writing is something
hugely that I want to do now and that's

ingrained in me now and I'm like you
know I'm going to write for the rest of

life and I don't want to talk about it
too much yet but I'm producing our next

well co -producer assistant producer on
the next short film

Then I got me thinking, okay, if I can
do a bit of producing, you know, and now

I'm thinking, God, you know, I'd love to
get to, like, 40 and write and direct

my own film. Yeah. And cast it and not
be in it and just, you know. And just do

the creating of it. Yeah. At the minute,
I really just want to be in front of

the screen and acting and feeling it,
yeah. But maybe when I get older, I'll

probably want to sit back and go, I'm
directing it now. Yeah.

I think you'd be a brilliant director.
Do you think? I think you'd be a really,

really good director.

Thank you. I'm not sure.

I think one of the things, one of the
reasons to be a good, well, not the

reasons, one of the kind of skills you'd
need as a good director is to know how

actors work.

Empathy, isn't it? Yeah, it's knowing
what to say in the right time to get the

right performance. And I think, given
your experience as an actor, I think

that's one of the primary things. If
anyone is watching, thinking about going

into film, becoming a director, that is
one of the things that I would... I

suggest is, you know, maybe think about
taking up an acting lesson. Even if you

don't want to become an actor, you never
will.

I mean, I did acting lessons for about
three years. I took drama, you know, air

level and things like that. But just so
I can understand how an actor takes.

I've had some crazy, I've met some crazy
people in my acting classes.

Not always actors. I've met coaches,
life coaches, acting coaches. I've met

producers, writers, directors.

And I'm like, why are you here? And
they're like, oh, I just want to know

it feels like to be an actor.

I'm like, ah, it's clever. It is. So
yeah, definitely takes my attention.

So Jack did mention that he is going to
be producing a new film along with other

Oxygen films.

We are going to be going into that in a
short while.

Thank you for the message.

Hi, glad I didn't miss the live. Can't
wait to see Brett's thing. I want to

how you feel about having girls wanting
to see the movie as well, because I'm so

excited for it. Thank you very much,

I know you're on our Instagram quite a
lot, and you're always liking our stuff,

How do you feel about that? Personally,
I love it. Yeah? Why can't we have a

girl audience? I mean, it is LGBT, you
know, but...

That's great. No, love it. I love it.
Yeah. Because these stories obviously

you know, they've got a certain market
and a certain audience, but it's not,

storyline can still affect everyone. No.
This World We Live In is about, this

guy was, he was not comfortable with
himself when he was going down this

horrible turmoil of being gay and not
coming out and stuff, and his mates all

straight. But when we actually really
thought about it, and he went it down

like you know the drugs and the alcohol
this could be for anything this could be

for if you get a divorce if you lose
your house if you lose your job you

it's more like about mental health and
not dealing with what you know not

talking to people about things and I was
like anyone can watch this it's not

always about what you think it's about
the bigger picture It's always about the

bigger picture. So, yeah, so Wretched
Things, again, it's about the bigger

picture, what's going on inside. I think
with Wretched Things, even though I see

it as, you know, really, you know, I've
made the film for an LGBT audience

because there's not a lot of films
directly, kind of, that look at LGBT

so specifically.

The characters in it, most of the
characters are not gay in the film,

quite, you know, looking at the first
chapter, we've got Warren Godman as Ben.

He's got a model who is looking to get
into the industry.

He is straight, as far as we know. We
know we never see him having any gay

experiences. The second chapter with
Tommy Velez, he is, you know, he's...

potentially a bisexual character.

Again, it's never explicitly seen on
Munson, but we do see him having

relationships with women or kind of
being at least sexually attracted to

But we also do see him experiment and,
you know, so that character does...

you know, it's not explicit.

And then even in the third chapter, the
one that you appear in, I'd have said,

obviously, Joey is gay.

He's very homosexual.

Actually, looking at the other
characters in the story, we have the

character being Louis, who is very,
very, you know, aggressive, kind of what

I would say is the villain of the story.

But we also see him having moments where

His sexuality is explored in both
heterosexual and homosexual.

So again, he could be bisexual again.

The story, this I think is probably our
straightest story.

here, actually, from David, which we

got in the middle of watching the
trailer. It says, do you guys enjoy

your own stuff? Lots of actors say they
don't watch their own work. I assume the

directors have to watch it over and over
and over.

Yep. You've got quite strong opinions.
Yeah, I mean, I've heard this before

where people say, oh, no, I don't like
watching my own work. And I think it's

actually being really modest and
pretending that they don't actually

it. But I actually think they have, they
must do. I don't understand why you

would get into acting or you would be
passionate about a project.

If I've done a project and I'm really
passionate about it and I love the story

and I love what's going on, yeah, I love
watching it.

I'm really proud of it. I'm like, we've
created this. Me and you have created

this world we live in. I love it.

Don't get it wrong, after 20 times,
yeah, it gets a bit too much. If any

says, no, I act and I don't watch any of
my work, I'm like, why?

Why do you not do that?

It's almost just like a job then. Does
it help you?

Do you think, or can it sometimes do
you?

Yeah, okay, this is difficult because I
used to want to watch it after a scene.

I used to want to watch it straight back
on the camera.

But number one that takes time and
number two there's something entirely

you don't like Yeah, and then you know
you but how can we get another take and

it's like well, you know I move on and
if people don't know it's that scratch

that you did that you don't like it.
Yes. I'll stop watching things on the

Yeah, but I wouldn't 100 % like Four
years ago watching short films. I do

now. I'm like wow better actors I've
learned from watching back.

That's not what you should do or you
know, I wouldn't You know, you can pick

things. Yeah, it does help, but you can
be honest with yourself and go, I

wasn't, you know, so good back then, and
I know what I did wrong.

So yeah, no, the answer is yes, I love
watching products I've done.

Because if I'm proud of it, yeah. You
need to watch it, yeah.

It's great, everyone loves it, you know,
people are crying in the audience.

I'm serious. My mum came to watch and
she was crying her eyes out, and I'm

like...

We've made that impact, yeah.

I'm like, yeah, I love watching stuff
like that. I have the complete opposite

reaction.

Because, you hit the nail on the head
there, David. For me, it is having to

watch it over and over and over again.

But also, I mean, for me, because I
write as well as direct, I write the

project, then I rewrite it, then I
rewrite it, then I rewrite it.

Then I read it, read it, read it. Then I
direct it on the day with the actors

over and over and over again.

I'm often in the editing suite as well.
Edit, edit, edit.

So I'm watching it. And it gets to a
point where you become so desensitized

the content that you've created to the
point where you no longer realize

or not it's good or if something's not
working, if a line isn't working.

And also you become very attached as a
writer -director to the work that you've

done. And if you're on the day, you
know,

for example, if we shot a scene and we
thought, loved that scene, I loved that

moment when we were filming it, when
actually, if we externalise yourself and

think, well, actually, even though that
was a great experience for me on set, it

doesn't work well in the film.

I find that a challenge, and that's
something I'm kind of learning as I go

ahead. But, yeah, I mean, the difficult
thing is, when you've, you know, re

-write, re -write, re -write, edit,
edit, edit, and shot and done all these

things, we've watched it, well, you
especially, and that's not, but, If you

direct and you've watched it maybe 30
times, you do pick up on these certain

lines. But people are going to watch it
once or twice, and they aren't going to

notice things that we know it because
you get attacked.

Yeah, and you become hypercritical as
well. It's very easy as a director and

an actor as well to be super, super
critical about your work.

And that is dangerous.

I work with actors.

Some who like watching the content like
you, others who are happy if I am happy

and trust that I can basically say that
was shit or that was good.

But sometimes, yeah, I can prefer not
watching the content back because,

especially when it's something that
you've put a lot of effort into and it's

just maybe something isn't how exactly
you pictured it in your head, that's

another thing as a director you have to
realise that some of the things you do

are not going to work out how you
imagined, but again, as you mentioned,

only, you know, they're watching it for
the first time.

The readers, the watchers of the film
don't have the script with them. They

weren't on set. They don't know what's
in my mind. So actually, what's in my

mind is irrelevant.

Yeah, and as an actor, you know, when
you go to the screening or the premiere,

that is the first time we watched it.
Yeah, so that's why we're excited and we

want to watch it because we've shot it,
so we can.

I think we know what we're going to see.
We haven't seen the edit yet. So as a

director, editor, writer, totally
different to being an actor.

Yeah, we haven't seen it until we see
the preview or the private screen or

whatever. That's very true.

So thank you for joining us so far. We

So, we are going to talk a little bit
about Wrecked Things before we go on to

the final, final project that we are
looking at doing. No, the final project

are looking at doing, but the final
thing that we're going to be talking

our most recent one.

So, yes, Wrecked Things is coming out in
January next year.

Are you nervous?

I am.

I am nervous, but that's good. Again,
because I was nervous about this world

we're living in, and them nerves then
turned into pride.

I was like, wow.

People are reacting differently to what
I thought they were going to react to. I

thought they were going to be like, oh,
why would you do that? But they were

like, oh my god.

This is an amazing story.

I'm hoping it's going to be the same
thing. I was nervous about doing this

again, but I'm nervous for the release,
but I'm also excited.

Because we've got a strong audience.

behind it, I think, backing it.

And yeah, I'm excited.

Are you excited?

I am, yeah.

I mean, for me, as I mentioned before,
this is the most ambitious project I've

ever done.

I think it might be the most ambitious
project most of us have done. It was

quite an uncomfortable shoot because if
you've seen the trailer, you know that a

lot of the content is quite explicit or
graphic and quite intense in its nature.

So to be on set and filming that was
quite an experience in terms of, you

getting the crew together to make it
work because, you know, we have to have

good atmosphere on set and I think for
this one it was absolutely amazing.

So how did you find directing this film?

What were the challenges and what were
the, I don't know, difficulties and

challenges that approached directing it?
Yeah, I think the biggest challenge is

second guessing myself constantly.

Before I started writing this, I got a
piece of advice, or I read something

which said, you know, you should write
the things that you are scared of, that

you're more scared of.

And I am terrified of Rutgers.

When I was writing it, I was like, I
really don't know if this is psychotic

good. I don't know. It could be both. I
have no idea. And I think that's the

thing, is that I don't actually know if
I'm excited. I'm absolutely petrified

because... I was scared when I was
writing it, I was scared when I was

it, and I was scared watching the
footage back. Yeah, and scared of the

Yeah. But I'm scared just because, not
for myself, and not for the actors, and

not for everyone involved, I'm just
scared because that story is intense,

think I'm scared for the story. It's
like a child, and I'm like, I'm passing

to school, and it's like out in the
world, and people can have their own

opinions on it.

I think this is going to be the most
divisive film we have ever, ever

And I think it might be the most
divisive one we've ever, we'll ever do.

Because I think there will be a lot of
people who hate it and a lot of people

who love it. Yeah, it's going to be like
Marmite, I think.

100%. And that's what I want. I don't
want people to go, oh, that was alright.

It's good.

I don't want people like that. I want
people to say, I effing hated that.

I effing hated that.

I hated it, I felt, you know, and having
that outrage and that outburst is far

better than someone going, eh, it's
alright.

And then having, obviously, Alternative,
which would be nice as well, and I

really loved that, I loved the, you
know, this part of it.

I'm trying to, I was about to say,
spoiler alert as well, I'm not doing too

at this, I nearly missed it.

You've always said to me that you like
films that you basically argue in the

at the end. Yeah. So when, you know, you
go watch a film in the cinema and

you're both arguing about it, yeah, I
think that's what you probably...

Where people are arguing whether it's
good or bad.

Definitely. I think families will.

Well, if families do, I'm not sure if
it's family.

Take the kids out.

Lola has asked a question. Lola says,
will there be any screenings in London

towards the end of the year? Any
flexible plans? Maybe.

Yes, there are.

We are hoping to have a screening.

in London in January. We've not got that
confirmed, so yeah.

In London? In London, yeah, in your
home. I'll be there. Your home state.

I live in London now, by the way.

Yeah, he's the traitor to Yorkshire.

But yes, we plan to have our premiere up
in Yorkshire in the north in January.

But then following on from that, we'll
have festival releases internationally.

But some of the, just before we go into
that, some of the scenes that you shot

in Wretched Things, your chapter is an
18 plus.

in terms of specifications for our
audience, how do you kind of prepare for

filming scenes like that?

I mean, both of your, well, all of your
scenes in the film.

Preparation. Some kind of... I mean,
yeah, it's difficult to prepare for

scenes because you can't really
practice, you know, with your mate.

You can't, like, you can't practice
that. You kind of have to just go for

I remember when we shot the first take
of the first, you know, with Difficult

Nature, we didn't even go for rehearsal.

Oh, we did a light rehearsal.

We did a light rehearsal, yeah. Our
first take, you came in, because there's

obviously a different room for the
monitor and stuff, and it's just us and

camera and the gauging therapy in the
room, and he came in and was like,

I think you got that in one.

And I said, well, I think that's all,
you know, we put everything into the

take, because this is such a...

different natured scene, you know. I
don't know how to put it. Different

natured, you know. Yeah, it's sexual
nature.

There we go. It's sexual nature.

Really difficult to film, really
difficult to act.

Because I find it difficult to direct.

Yeah. It's awkward, isn't it? You know,
that kind of... Yeah. So you need to...

do this.

But is it kind of uncomfortable for an
actor to do that? Or is it after the

first time, is it like, okay, that's
pretty easy? I mean, if the actor, if

co -actor I'm working with is, you know,
good and understanding and, you know,

they're not awkward, it makes it so much
easier. So, Adam I was acting alongside

with was great.

He was great. He was a good friend of
mine on the shoot.

He made everything super comfortable.

He worried about me.

He was concerned about me. It made me
feel comfortable. I was like, don't

about me. I'm fine.

I'm okay, you know.

And that's the main thing, the other
actor. If the other actor's, you know,

it, then it's because, hands up, I'm
going to be honest, I've worked with

that it's really difficult to work with
because they're either nervous or not

very confident or, you know, haven't
done much before.

Or they didn't want to do the theme,
maybe. I've worked on things that they

don't want to do it. They're just like,
I don't want to do that. They'll put

effort in.

And it makes it really difficult for you
because you have to try and make up

their part, you know?

And I think if you both go in full ball,
to what me and Adam did, we went full

in and we just went, hit it hard, it
makes sense. It just flows.

And then you're not, you know, you're
more confident and it's not as...

embarrassing or yeah i mean because it's
like oh don't you know it is tough and

i think that one of the things that we
all you know we maintained on set was

that you know it's a collaborative
process yeah you know you were involved

kind of the structure of the story you
were coming back with ideas and it was

adam yeah and we were constantly kind of
having that conversation about how

about this what about this and it was
that kind of point where it wasn't it no

longer became one person going you need
to do this it was more of a well let's

let's look at this.

Three people going, would this work?

And then making it. And I think that
made it more intense because you saw the

confidence and you saw the effort that
everyone was going through.

It was a joint process that everyone was
working towards it.

So we are going to watch the trailer for
Wretched Things one final time in this

Which chapter is the darkest and which

one is the sexiest?

Chapter, for me, hands down, that would
be three.

For me, it's three.

I don't know about sexiest, but darkest,
three.

Three.

Sexiest, I would say number one.

Number one. Would you say sexiest is
number one? I haven't seen the film, but

know what goes on.

The thing is, with the sex scenes in the
film, the scenes that do feature

more explicit and more scenes of a
sexual nature, they are not fun scenes

watch. They are not fun scenes to film.

often we see sex in film as either
romantic or glamorous or

sometimes realistic or whatever it is.

These scenes are tough because we want
to challenge our audience. We want

to see that sex is something that is not
something that is cut and dry. People

use sex for power. People use sex for
dominance, for money,

a lot of different reasons, and it's not
as simple as saying it's between people

who love each other.

It's a tough one.

It's dark. Yeah, it's dark.

So do watch out for more trailers. We're
going to be releasing more content in

the coming months, but for now, Wretched
Things is going to be out in January

2019.

It's the first time we've ever properly,
officially, really collaborated on the

writing process.

done writing in the past, but this is
the first time it is a proper

collaboration. Yeah, this is my first
writing credit ever.

I've never, you know, I've written, I've
never gone into production.

Yeah, so do you want to talk a little
bit about the character that you're

to be playing?

Yeah, so I'm going to be playing a
young, I'd say aspiring model, Tom.

He's never had a photoshoot before.

He's just been told that he could be a
model.

So he's basically trying to get a
portfolio done.

So when you start out as a model, you go
and get test shoots done. So it's free

photos from, or you can pay, from the
photographer, and then you kind of swap

the photos. They have them for their
portfolio, you have them for yours.

And that's kind of how you start, and
you can take them to agencies.

So this young aspiring model goes for a
photoshoot with a photographer.

Eduardo. Yes. Do you want me to talk
about Eduardo?

You can talk about Eduardo.

Eduardo is played by Santo, who will be
working and putting

more promotional content out in the
coming weeks, so do check out that.

But he plays a very professional, very
big photographer,

who is quite a respectful...

name in the industry perhaps, but he
kind of prays and takes advantage of

vulnerable, insecure maybe, first time
model.

So it is quite a sinister story. We've
seen it in our industry quite a lot.

It's one that is very realistic,
unfortunately, but the conversations

going on for too long about Me Too,
Time's Up.

and it now needs to change. We need to
make direct action on some of these

things that we're talking about, which
we are now starting to see with a lot of

very brave men and women talking out
about sexual exploitation, sexual abuse

the industry.

So this is something that we're very,
very keen to explore.

And I'll say that it's loosely based on
a true story. Yes, if you want to.

This is loosely based on a true story.

This is this week, we didn't have that.

So yeah, this kind of, when I was
getting into the industry, this loosely

happened to me. It got me twice. It got
me thinking, if this happened to me

twice, how often does this happen?

How many models and how many actors go
through this when they're starting out?

Not even when they're starting out, A
-listers. Harvey Weinstein, Kevin

This happens. This happens. A lot. And I
don't know if I've seen really a film

kind of challenge that.

So, yeah, this is why, you know, we came
up with the idea. I pitched the script

to Gage, and he rewrote, I rewrote, and
we, you know, we rewrote and put it

right.

So we decided to go into Brooklyn, and,
yeah, again, it's my first writing

credit, first producing credit, acting
in it again. Yeah.

So that's exciting, and I'm really
excited about this one. It's going to be

good shoot, I think. I think it is going
to be a good shoot. It's going to be an

intense shoot.

So just to read out the official
synopsis for the film, although we kind

just described it, I don't want to trip
myself up.
