Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:00:46:00-00:01:02:23
“I mean, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ helped me in every role that I play, because that was really my education. Like, I went into ‘Sons of Anarchy’ not really knowing how to put a performance together, and then after seven years of having to create arcs every week for 13 episodes every year over the course of seven years
00:01:03:22-00:01:12:10
and jump right into the ring to check out boxing!
But first, let’s start off today's episode of Planet action with getting sacked Hollywood-style
Celebrity Shortlist-Top 3 Actors Who Got Fired in The Middle of a Shoot
1.
00:01:16:20-00:02:13:09
The movie industry can be a tough business, and sometimes you get jobs or lose jobs due to circumstances beyond your control. Here are our Top 3 Actors Who Got Fired in The Middle of a Shoot.
At number three, it’s Stuart Townsend. The Irish actor was cast as the hero Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, but four days into filming, the director decided poor Stuart looked too young for the part, and he was replaced with Viggo Mortensen.
On the second place we find Robert Downey Jr. Robert was set to appear opposite Sandra Bullock in the sci-fi drama ‘Gravity’, but it quickly became clear that his improvisational style of acting didn’t suit the movie’s intricate technical requirements, so his role was given to George Clooney instead.
And our top spot goes to Kevin Spacey. Spacey had already finished shooting the movie ‘All the Money in The World’ when he became embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal. Director Ridley Scott decided to ditch the now-tainted star and reshot all of Kevin’s scenes with Christopher Plummer in his place.
INTERMEZZO
00:02:22:10-00:02:37:03
While sometimes it’s not the actors’ fault, getting replaced in the middle of a shoot usually happens when the actor becomes so much of a headache that no one wants to deal with them. And when that happens, there’s a risk no one will ever want to work with them ever again! A risk that these next Hollywood badboys didn’t want to run and decided to clean up their acts instead!
Special-Reformed Hollywood Bad Boys
1.
00:02:43:08-00:03:15:00
Mark Wahlberg, Jude Law, Sean Penn… These are just a few examples of movie stars who built quite the bad boy reputation in the past, but then worked hard to turn their lives around and change their image. Let’s take a look at some reformed Hollywood bad boys!
Unfortunately, many of our bad boys seem to have drug-related issues. Both Jay Z and Idris Elba used to deal drugs back in the days, and British funny man Russell Brand, who’s had a real troubled past including being sexually abused and suffering from bulimia, even got kicked out of school at age 16 for doing many kinds of illegal drugs.
Quote: Russell Brand
00:03:15:05-00:03:29:20
“Smuggling drugs, I’ve done that. Making other people buy me drugs, I’ve done that. Smashing things up for fun, I’ve done that a lot. Philandering I’ve done. Skulduggery I’ve done.”
2.
00:03:30:10-00:03:55:23
Colin Farrell shares a similar story. His good looks and acting talent may have landed him roles in many movies, but his recreational drug abuse, addiction to painkillers and involvement in a sex tape scandal have repeatedly landed him on tabloid covers in the past. In 2005, Farrell decided to turn his life around and checked into rehab. The actor then underwent the difficult journey of getting sober, but it all paid off as these days Colin is glad the madness is over and doesn't miss it at all.
Quote: Colin Farrell
00:03:56:06-00:03:59:11
“The path has been generous to me.”
3.
00:04:00:00-00:04:25:10
'Iron Man' star Robert Downey Jr. once was one of Hollywood's most notorious bad boys. His drug problem lead to several arrests, failed rehab visits, a stint in jail and eventually he was sentenced to three years on probation, which allowed him to continue living in drug treatment instead of returning to prison. Emerging clean and sober in 2003, Downey Jr. began to rebuild his career. Since then his life has completely turned around.
Quote: Robert Downey Jr.
00:04:26:00- 00:04:29:22
“Well you know, they say the bigger the setback, the bigger the comeback.”
4.
00:04:30:04-00:05:10:21
And while we all know that Channing Tatum used to be a stripper back in the days, what you might not know is that Chris Pratt used to dance for ladies, too! And none other than Mr. Brad Pitt used to drive female strippers around and collect the money from their gigs. One of those girls introduced Brad to his future acting coach, turning his life around. Hollywood legend Al Pacino took it one step further though, having worked as an escort in Italy in his younger days! According to Pacino, an older woman traded food and housing for his body, and he didn’t really love himself during that period.
Someone who only just dodged the bullet is British hottie Charlie Hunnam. He’s famous for his role of bad boy biker Jax in the TV series ‘Sons of Anarchy’, but his own life actually came pretty close to that as well.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:05:11:00-00:05:27:04
“My father is a career long gangster, thirty-five years. Never made a legitimate dollar in his life. My cousins… I’m telling you, and I know it sounds funny sitting in a Beverly Hills hotel, in the Four Seasons, but I’m just telling you straight up: hundred percent I would’ve been a gangster if I wasn’t an actor.”
5.
00:05:27:06-00:05:40:06
Wesley Snipes actually did spent three years in prison for avoiding taxes…
While tattooed tough guy Danny Trejo spent a total of 11 years back in the day, before being introduced to director Robert Rodriguez, who helped him built a career in movies.
Quote: Danny Trejo
00:05:40:11-00:05:48:09
“I’ve really been blessed. Robert Rodriguez made me go from ex-con to icon.”
6.
00:05:48:21-00:06:02:15
No matter what the reason was for these guys to give in to the dark side, the important thing is that they decided to go straight again before it was too late. And luckily so, because now we can enjoy their unique talents for, hopefully, a long time to come.
INTERMEZZO
00:06:08:01-00:06:16:23
Let’s move on and get up close and personal with one of those reformed Hollywood bad boys! Here is all you need to know about Charlie Hunnam!
Star File-Charlie Hunnam
1.
00:06:21:15-00:06:39:21
Handsome British star Charlie Hunnam grew up quite poor and had a rough childhood, until at 17, he was discovered by the production manager of a local TV show and soon was making his living as an actor. Early in his career, a lot of Charlie’s characters were not very nice people, but there’s a reason why he was so good at playing them.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:06:40:01-00:07:12:14
“I grew up in a very economically and socially depressed area… …Film is somewhere that I can have access to all that beauty and poetry and big ideas and all of that kind of stuff, so it was really important to me. So, I decided that is gonna be my escape from existential crisis and a very dreary way to spend my time on this earth. A lot of people in that same environment, a lot of my family included, decided that they were gonna go into crime to escape the same things. Now, had I not found that affinity for film, I 100% would have been a gangster. No question.”
2.
00:07:12:18-00:07:23:14
In 2008, Hunnam was cast as the lead on the TV drama ‘Sons of Anarchy’, about a motorcycle gang in California. His award-winning performance was the moment he truly broke through as an actor.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:07:24:00-00:07:45:14
“I mean, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ helped me in every role that I play, because that was really my education. Like, I went into ‘Sons of Anarchy’ not really knowing how to put a performance together, and then after seven years of having to create arcs every week for 13 episodes every year over the course of seven years, I got so much experience that I felt like that was sort of like my university degree.”
3.
00:07:45:17-00:07:59:20
In between seasons of the show, Hunnam continued to build up his movie career in films like ‘Deadfall’, ‘Pacific Rim’ and ‘Crimson Peak’. After the series was over, the star graduated to true leading man status with the adventure drama ‘Lost City of Z’.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:08:00:07-00:08:21:24
“I was hungry for an opportunity both with substance of material and quality of director, to move forward in my career and do the level of work that I’d always been aspiring to but hadn’t quite achieved yet in my career. So, this felt like the opportunity, in a lot of ways, that I’d been waiting my whole life for.”
4.
00:08:22:05-00:08:33:09
That same year, Hunnam starred as the title hero in Guy Ritchie’s action blockbuster ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’, though the ever-erudite actor sees the movie as much more than your average popcorn flick.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:08:33:15-00:09:10:17
“You know, on the surface it’s an interesting story of a man who goes on a journey and meets a bunch of interesting characters, and there’s the love triangle and everything, but the essence of it is really an exploration of the meaning of life. There was the responsibility in this film of course, because it’s a big studio film, to create the spectacle and the action and the sort of shiny surface of it, but underneath that, Guy and I felt a great responsibility to put some substance into it and try to explore some of the things that are inherent in the narrative and that are interesting to us.”
5.
00:09:10:23-00:09:23:00
And 2018 found Charlie in a new adaptation of the beloved French novel ‘Papillon’, about two men desperate to escape from prison. For Hunnam, however, the project turned out to be much more of a challenge than he expected.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:09:23:11-00:09:52:09
“Yeah, it was really tough for me because I had just done it once before. Right after I did ‘King Arthur’, I did a film called ’The Lost City of Z’ with James Grey, and I had to lose about 40, like 42 pounds I lost for that movie. And then I put some of that weight back on, and then I went into this film and I had to get back down to 145 pounds again for it, or at least that’s what I wanted to try to do. And it was just, my body didn’t want to do it this time.”
6.
00:09:52:17-00:09:58:05
Keep an eye on Charlie Hunnam, as he slowly and steadily wins the hearts of audiences around the world.
Quote: Charlie Hunnam
00:09:58:15-00:10:11:10
"That seems to be the way of things now. Of course, the film business has always been a huge international business, but even the American film business seems to be a much more international affair than it used to be."
INTERMEZZO
00:10:17:09-00:10:31:19
Film really is an international affair, which is why in 2015, Charlie crossed the pond and went all the way to Hollywood, USA to star in Guillermo Del Toro’s romance horror film, Crimson Peak! Let’s check that out up next!
Trivia- Crimson Peak
B-Roll ‘Crimson Peak’
00:10:36:18-00:10:37:15
Action!
1.
00:10:37:17-00:11:04:22
And that mighty voice comes from Guillermo del Toro, the director of ‘Crimson Peak’, the movie that’s the subject of today’s trivia.
The plot of this 2015 horror fantasy follows a young girl who marries a wealthy guy. Once she moves into his mansion, however, it turns out to be haunted. On top of that, she also has to deal with his psycho sister.
This film really is an homage to the gothic genre, which is hardly ever featured in films anymore. The director did a lot of research during the preparation stages.
Quote ‘Guillermo Del Toro’
00:11:05:03-00:11:40:22
‘The gothic starts in the 1780s with a novel called ‘The Castle of Otranto’, but is most popular in the 1800s in Victorian England and in Belgium and in Germany. And then Hollywood adapts in the Golden Era of cinema with movies like ‘Rebecca’, ‘Jane Eyre’ and ‘Wuthering Heights’. Big production and then it eventually decays into B-movies in the 50s and 60s. I wanted to do a proper spectacle sort of gothic, dark, beautiful movie.’
2.
00:11:41:06-00:12:12:07
The lead is played by Mia Wasikowska, but the role was originally offered to Jessica Chastain. When Jess read the script however, she insisted she play the evil Lucille instead. For the part, she even learned how to play the piano.
In all honesty, though, the real protagonist of this movie is the Victorian mansion itself. The whole place was built inside a studio and then torn down when filming wrapped. Also, all the props were custom made, they didn’t reuse anything from other shoots like they do in most movies. That says a lot about the level of attention that went into every last detail.
Quote ’Tom Hiddleston’
00:12:12:18-00:12:30:22
‘The first time I went into the set it was really, it was an amazing moment. I think it was the scene where I was carrying Mia Wasikowska’s character, my new bride, across the threshold and into the great hall and the fires were lit and there were autumn leaves falling through the ceiling and it was absolutely dazzling.’
Quote ‘Mia Wasikowska’
00:12:31:01-00:12:49:13
‘There was all sorts of kind of corners that you could discover and things that you could, you know details that you could keep discovering like they would flip a switch and the walls would kind of seep with that red clay and the words ‘fear’ were etched into the wallpaper in this one section of the house.’
3.
00:12:49:16-00:12:59:15
We’ve praised the mansion enough already, but it really is one of the coolest sets ever built for a movie. The main reason for this was the vision of the director, who had some very refreshing ideas.
Quote ‘Guillermo Del Toro’
00:12:59:20-00:13:36:21
‘When were talking about the movie I gave the biography of the house to the production designer and the construction guys and said: ‘Let’s built the wardrobe and couture the architecture’. And what we did is, we grabbed for example details of the house and we put it in the embroidery of the fabrics. So, Lucille is part of the house. And then when we were building the set, we measured the actors and we made the corridors match, very narrow, so they could almost be incapsulated by the corridors.’
4.
00:13:37:09-00:13:50:19
In the end, ‘Crimson Peak’ failed to be truly staggering, and many critics found the plot and characters rather bland. But as it looks absolutely breathtaking and has some very chilling moments in it, it’s still worth a watch.

Celebrity Shortlist-Top 3 Actors Who Do Their Own Stunts
1.
00:14:37:17- 00:15:09:13
Not everything you see on screen in action films is created with movie magic and CGI, sometimes it’s all too real.
At number three, it’s Gal Gadot. The Israeli beauty’s mom is a gym teacher, so she’s always been physical. She also served in the army before becoming an actress, so she knows her way around a weapon, and has learned to ride motorcycles and horses.
On the second place we find Jason Statham. The athletic star is always willing to take his bumps to make his action-packed films as good as possible.
Quote: Jason Statham
00:15:09:17- 00:15:15:14
''You do get hurt, things go wrong and that's par for the course. There's no way of getting around it. It's as simple as that.''
2.
00:15:16:09- 00:15:26:15
And our top spot goes to Tom Cruise. In Tom’s ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, he seems to enjoy finding bigger and more impressive ways for him to risk his life with each new instalment.
Quote: Tom Cruise
00:15:26:22- 00:15:34:21
“I don’t sleep much, and I just work and I’m constantly studying and learning new things… …and I’m very passionate about what I do, and I feel very privileged to be able to do what I do.”
INTERMEZZO
00:15:41:07- 00:15:51:07
With his looks, physique and undeniable acting talent, Jason Statham is a true action movie star! Let’s check out more about this British bad boy, up next!
Celebrity of The Week - Jason Statham
1.
00:15:57:12- 00:17:11:22
Every episode of Planet Action we get up close and personal with a different celeb, and this time around we’ll be checking out what British action star Jason Statham has been up to. Nowadays, he’s known for playing unapologetic tough guys in movies like ‘The Expendables’, ‘The Transporter’ and some of the ‘Fast and Furious’ instalments. But Jason has done all kinds of things before he made it in Hollywood.
He’s been an avid sports fan his entire life, having a background in kickboxing, wing chun and karate. Back in 1992, he even participated in the British National Diving Team and finished 12th in the world championships. After doing so, he picked up a modelling career, but in his younger days, he used to be a dodgy black-market jewellery salesman.
Much to his own surprise he was discovered by director Guy Ritchie who gave him a role in ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’. It became a big hit and over the years Statham rose to be a renowned star. He never lost his appetite for sports though, as he still has hobbies like wake boarding, jet skiing, wind surfing and rock climbing. It’s mostly aquatic things he can’t get enough from.
Quote: Jason Statham
00:17:11:24- 00:17:23:13
“We wanna swim, we wanna jump from the boat, we wanna dive, we wanna feel the water on the body, it’s amazing. It’s the greatest luxury to be in the ocean. For me.”
2.
00:17:24:18- 00:17:32:14
One particularly cool oceanic experience he’s had was while staying at one of the hottest tropical A-list locations in the world.
Quote: Jason Statham
00:17:32:18- 00:18:12:10
“I did a dive in Fiji, which was a twenty-meter dive, with twenty-five, thirty bull sharks. All of around two-and-a-half, three meters in length. Very, very nervous on the surface and then when we went down, it was much more relaxed. When you get into the environment, and your fingertip close to these things. They're coming by. There's a couple of the Fijians that almost like a trash can full of tuna heads, and then they put on a big chain mill glove and they pull out the head and they hand feed these sharks. They come down, and they swoop in and they let go. It's phenomenal”
3.
00:18:13:06- 00:18:35:15
He shared a video of the adventure on Instagram, and “phenomenal” indeed sounds like a good word to describe it. He’s not the biggest social media junkie ever, but there’s more fun stuff on his page to be found. It’s mostly him practicing martial arts and looking ripped, although he also likes to share pics of some of the rides of his impressive luxury car collection.
Quote: Jason Statham
00:18:35:24- 00:18:41:18
“I prefer to drive myself. I can have my bad music on, and I can chat on the phone.”
4.
00:18:42:00- 00:19:36:08
Some of his pieces include an Audi A8 and a Lamborghini Murcielago. His passion for hot sets of wheels often comes in handy for his various action movies, where he usually performs his own stunts. Besides the ocean, sports and fast sports cars, there’s one more thing Statham gets really enthusiastic about, namely very good-looking women. He used to date former model and tv host Kelly Brook and is married to Victoria’s Secret Angel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley these days. Despite Jason being 20 years older than Rosie, they recently had a baby boy together. All in all, it should be clear, Britain’s most famous action hero is absolutely living the A-list lifestyle and judging by in how good a shape he is, it seems he’ll continue to do so for a long time to come.
INTERMEZZO
00:19:42:20- 00:19:57:05
If you’re looking at Jason there and wondering how you could ever get as fit and fierce as he is, then we have an answer for you! Boxing! Let’s hop into the ring now with trainer-to-the-stars Mohamed Elzomor and find out more!
Body & Mind – Boxing
1.
00:20:04:16- 00:20:32:10
Celebrities constantly rave about the workouts that keep them in tiptop shape. And while they seldom rely on a single exercise regime for their pristinely sculpted abs, super toned legs and exquisitely firm derriere, there is one full-body method that’s proven to be a cut above the rest: boxing. The sport of pugilism targets a full range of muscles at cardio speed, working to build endurance and strength through interval training.
Quote: Mohamed Elzomor
00:20:32:14- 00:20:55:05
“Boxing is definitely a cardio workout. You're not really using weights when you box, unless you're holding weights in your hands but that is an entirely different story. Two or three minutes in the ring, if you're actually boxing, will completely wear you out. So, I have a lot of respect for boxers who are in there, taking hits, while moving at the same time. But as a workout, when I box with my clients, twenty, fifteen minutes is more than enough, honestly.”
2.
00:20:55:21- 00:21:05:07
Mental dexterity is another bonus, thanks to lightning-fast sequenced combinations, all of which utilize your own body weight for a lean result rather than bulking up.
Quote: Mohamed Elzomor
00:21:05:16-00:21:32:16
“Boxing is an incredible sport and workout, primarily. It is very high intensity. It gets you moving around. Your whole body is always moving, your lower body is always moving, your upper body is definitely always moving. When you're throwing punches, may seem like it's easy when you're watching it, but your body tires out very quickly. So, it burns out your shoulders, your arms, your cardio vasculaire intensity is very very high when you're boxing. So, it is incredible for many many reasons.”
3.
00:21:34:06- 00:21:59:19
There’s absolutely no shortage of models and celebs that swear by some firm cross-hook-jab combos to stay in perfect shape.
How about Karlie Kloss? She’s a bookworm, college student, foodie and a fitness junkie who focuses on being #strongnotskinny. And she has her boxing workouts to thank for that.
Both Gigi and Bella Hadid love to throw a few punches in the ring every now and then.
4.
00:22:05:16- 00:22:13:00
For Adriana Lima the sport is a true passion and was the perfect way to gear up for her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows.
5.
00:22:16:11- 00:22:43:04
‘Jane the Virgin’ actress Gina Rodriguez is also an absolute boss in the boxing ring. It’s in her blood, because Gina’s father was a boxing referee and the ring was her second home as a child.
Demi Lovato has grown a lot since her Disney days. Having battled an eating disorder and an overdose, she’s now prioritizing her health and fitness — showing off her killer body on Instagram, while exchanging jabs and jokes with the occasional boxing legend.
6.
00:22:51:12- 00:22:58:15
Meanwhile, old school super celebs who love boxing include Mickey Rourke, Sylvester Stallone and Denzel Washington.
Quote: Mohamed Elzomor
00:22:58:18- 00:23:22:02
“Denzel Washington actually does box. I've seen him do it myself, actually over at where he lives. But it is an incredible workout. Doesn't matter really how old you are, how young you may be. If you have injuries in your upper body than you do to be careful about that. But there is no real heavy weight or type of power movement that you have to be careful about. You just do it at your own pace.”

Hollywood’s Fresh Faces-Vanessa Kirby
1.
00:23:45:20- 00:24:08:04
Growing up in London, Vanessa Kirby’s parents took her frequently to the theatre, and she knew from a young age that she wanted to be an actress. She started her career on stage in her hometown, before moving into television and eventually film. Though she’s best known for her dramatic work, like in the TV series ‘The Crown’, in 2018, she also kicked butt alongside Tom Cruise for ‘Mission: Impossible - Fallout’.
01 Quote: Vanessa Kirby
00:24:08:15- 00:24:29:13
“It was surreal. I mean, you think that, you know that he does all his own stunts, because he’s known for it, but when you actually see him do it in person, it is quite extraordinary. It’s like an art for that I’ve never seen, it’s given me a whole new appreciation.
