back at the very best

of the WWE's Fall Classic, the
Survivor Series.

[Michael] Shawn Michaels.

This is WWE's Greatest
Moments.

[JR] It's all about surviving.

- Acknowledge me.

[Jim] My God.

[Michael] Stone Cold with a beer
bath.

[Jerry] Ah.

[Corey Graves] This is surreal.

[Ring Announcer 1] Look at this.

[Ring Announcer 2] He slammed
him.

- Welcome, everyone, to WWE's
Greatest Moments.

I'm Michael Cole, and on this
edition,

the name of the
game is survival.

[Jim] One team must eliminate
all the opposition

to win this elimination match.

[Michael] Since its inception in
1987, the Survivor Series

has been one of the premier
events on the WWE calendar.

A featured attraction at this
event has always been the

traditional elimination match,

where two teams collide until
one side has been defeated.

- At Survivor Series, we are
gonna kick your ass.

[Michael] In 2006, one of the
most dominant teams of all time

was led by Triple H and Shawn
Michaels.

The always controversial
D-Generation X.

- Viewer discretion is advised.

[Michael] DX made Hall of Fame
careers out of their hijinks,

their latest targets the team
of Randy Orton and Edge.

Rated RKO.

[Jim] This takes some audacity
from Randy Orton and Edge.

[Michael] The feuding teams each
captain their side of five to go

at it, and one of the most
memorable traditional

elimination matches of all time.

[Jim] This is a five on five
elimination tag team match.

- Just stacked
star studded-

CM Punk, The Hardys.
Triple H, Shawn.

Legends.

- This is chemistry on top of
characters

that are the absolute
perfect fit.

[Jim] Oh, God almighty.

[Jerry] Mike Knox.

Wait a minute.

Oh no wait.

[Jim] Thanks for coming.

Team DX,

now with a five on four
advantage.

- That all star team was-was
pretty mind blowing.

To be in a match with them was
just an honor.

[Jim] And Swanton Bomb.

Oh, this is going to be sweet
for Matt Hardy.

Five versus two.

Where are these two
yahoos going?

Team extreme forced team Rated

[Jerry] Sweet Chin Music.

Look out.

[Jim] Pedigree.

You talk about dominating.

- In one of the very rare
occurrences

in Survivor Series history,

everybody on Team DX survived.

[Jim] My God, it was a shutout.

[Michael] In 2002, Trish Stratus
was not only

ruling the women's division,

she was quickly becoming
one of the most

popular superstars
in WWE history.

Enter Victoria with jealousy
consuming her,

Victoria got under the skin
of the women's champion

and things got very
physical, very quickly.

[Jerry] Oh my God, get her.

[Michael] This came to a head
inside the famed halls of

Madison Square Garden,
where, in a rare occurrence for

the women, things would be
settled in a hardcore match.

[Jerry] Survivor series is
coming to you live

from the sold out
Madison Square Garden

in New York City.

- It was the first time I had

ever seen women fight
like that.

[Jim] Victoria off that top
turnbuckle

right down to the canvas.

- We had amazing chemistry.

Amazing.

We worked so well together.

[Jerry] Oh, no.

[Jim] Oh, man.

Trish head first.

- I think we started to know we
were making

a difference and
leaving an impact.

It was like the way the fans
were reacting-

They were vested into what we
were doing there.

[Jerry] Oh.

[Jim] Oh gosh.

[Jerry] Nice.

Very nice.

- Broke my nose.

Chipped my tooth.

- I was like, "Oh my gosh.

They're seeing the women as more
than just-

-eye candy."

[Jim] Right in the eyes.

That's the main thing.

[Jerry] You gotta be kidding me.

- Winning the title there in New
York, in Madison Square Garden.

Oh, man, I'm gonna cry.

Very emotional.

A huge moment like that.

We were not just pillow fights
and bathing suits and-and

lingerie matches and stuff like
that.

We could throw down too.

[Jim] Victoria is the new
women's champion.

[Michael] There was no bigger
sensation in 2002

than the "Beast Incarnate"
Brock Lesnar.

- The indestructible Brock
Lesnar.

[Michael] Lesnar F-5'd his way
through the entire roster

en route to capturing
the WWE Championship

from The Great One, The Rock.

Brock Lesnar has become the
youngest champion in history.

But standing in front of The
Beast

was his biggest challenge yet.

The 500 pound Big Show.

- When I first came to WWE,

I needed somebody
to pull me

by the reins and that
guy was Paul Heyman.

You have to have faith
in your manager.

That's why we're such a good
team.

[Michael] Big Show-

[Taz] Oh.

- -and the referee knocked
down Paul Heyman,

tossing a steel chair
to his client.

- The task at hand at Survivor
Series

was to leave them wanting more.

- F-5.

- Every time I get in the ring
with him,

it's like wrestling a
ball peen hammer.

You know, he's so strong and
just so athletic.

[Taz] No way.

[Michael] F5.

Lesnar has F5'd
500 pounds.

And here comes the new referee
into the ring.

[Taz] New ref, new
ref.

He retains, he retains.

[Michael] Wait a minute.

What the hell's going on?

- Who would have thought that
Paul Heyman would switch sides

in the middle of a match?

[Michael] Big Show.

[Taz] Chokeslam.

[Michael] Chokeslam to the steel
chair.

And the evidence has been tossed
out of the ring

as Heyman throws the
referee back in.

[Taz] Not like
this.

Kick out Brock.

[Michael] Damn it.

Paul Heyman has screwed
Brock Lesnar.

[Taz] Son of a-

- He's got courage and passion
more than common sense.

Without a doubt, yes, I'm a Paul
Heyman guy.

[Michael] The Big Show is the
champion.

- Survivor series has always
been the event where you not

only settle your scores,
but, as the name suggests,

become a survivor.

2003 that's exactly what the
goal of Shane McMahon was

when he was engrossed in a
rivalry

with The Big Red
monster, Kane.

[Shane] Kane, I'm going to make
your life a living hell.

[Jerry] No, no, no.

[Jim] Kane.

[Kane] Shane, there is nothing
that can stop me.

- Have a nice ride.

[Michael] This feud became so
violent

that at Survivor Series, the
two would battle it out

in one of the most unorthodox
matches ever,

where the loser would be the one
that was locked inside

of an ambulance.

[Ring Announcer 3] The following
contest is the ambulance match.

- Yeah, when you see an
ambulance match,

you know you're
going to get hurt.

[Jerry] Look at this.

[Jim] Oh my God.

- You got this big monster

and you got this crazy
daredevil.

That's a good matchup.

- I had so much on my mind.

I know I'm going into battle.

[Jerry] He'll try anything.

[Jim] On the table.

And the elbow to the Blackheart.

- This Kane-

He is a psychological monster.

Sadistic and twisted and mean.

[Jerry] Oh my God.

Oh my God.

[Jim] That's just sick.

- When you have a match with
that much physicality,

that much violence,

it really necessitates that
someone is indeed going

to the hospital
right after this.

[Jerry] He may destroy himself
in the process of trying

to destroy Kane- oh.

[Jim] Shane McMahon going border
to border.

- He's a big, big man.

He's double tough.

[Jerry] Adding fuel to the fire
for Kane

Oh, you got to be kiddin' me.

[Jim] Oh my God, the tombstone.

Shane's neck and his head.

And it's over.

[bell rings]

[Michael] In 2003, Monday Night
Raw had its own share of sitcom

drama with Co-general managers
Eric Bischoff

and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

- We're going to be partners.

- Partners.

[Jerry] Wait.

[Jim] No.

[Jerry] Stunner.

[Michael] It was obvious the two
were never

going to see eye to eye.

With the annual Survivor Series

approaching, a unique
stipulation was added

to the traditional elimination
match-

Both GMs picked their teams of
five.

- If your team loses, you're out
of here.

You're done.

[Jim] Business is about
to pick up.

- Kind of not wrestling
at the time.

It always rang a little hollow
with me doing anything

in the ring other
than wrestling.

But just the fact that people
bought into the angle

and we were entertaining
them

that was really cool.

[Jim] It is a must win for Stone
Cold,

and Booker T just got drilled,

and there's a 3D.

Van Dam with a five star.

Mark Henry eliminated.

- I get ganged up on.

Where's that fair?

[Jerry] Advantage back to Team
Bischoff,

and it doesn't look good for the
Rattlesnake right now.

- So it comes down to Shawn
Michaels

versus three members
of Team Bischoff.

The odds are stacked way against
Shawn Michaels.

[Jerry] JR, you got to face the
facts.

You got to be realistic.

It's- this is looking real bad.

[Jim] Oh.

Be realistic about that kick.

[Jerry] No he got him.

[Jim] Yes indeed.

One down and two to
go.

[Jerry] Oh.

[Jim] The counter the counter
the counter.

- You get Shawn Michaels running
through superstar after

superstar at the end

looking like he's going to
do it for Austin..

[Jerry] No.

[Jim] Orton tried to
crossbody Michaels.

[Jerry] Everybody in this arena
is on their feet, JR.

Hey.

[Jim] Hey, wait a minute.

[Jerry] Hey.

[Jim] Wait a minute.

Batista.

Batista.

And thanks to Batista of
Evolution,

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin's
career is over.

- Couldn't believe that I got
fired,

but it was what it was.

[Jim] We have just seen the end
of the most popular superstar

in WWE history.

[Michael] The WWE Women's
Championship is the top prize

in the women's division.

Many of the all time great
female competitors

have held on to that title,

and brought women's wrestling
to new heights.

At Survivor Series 2001, the
women's Championship was vacant.

The six pack challenge,
featuring the top women's

wrestlers of the era was set.

Which of these women would
survive

and call herself champion?

[Jim] The first person to score
a pinfall or submission

wins this match.

- In 2001, they put together a
match called

Six Pack Challenge.

It was Jazz, Jacqueline, Ivory,

Molly Holly, Lita and myself.

[Paul Heyman] It's every girl
for herself.

- I was the underdog coming in.

I wasn't the most experienced.

All five were way better in the
ring.

But I was ready for the
challenge.

[Paul] Oh man.

- We got to fight for this title
and make it mean something.

- I had this desire to just want
to prove myself in the ring

and say that,
"Yeah, I belong here."

[Jim] And Trish-

Oh, with a Stratusfaction.

Oh, don't tell me.

And Trish has done it.

Trish Stratus has won this
match.

- Holding the title for the
first time was really special.

[Jim] Trish Stratus is the new
women's champion.

- Trish winning that
championship just helped start

this whole new era of women's
wrestling.

[Michael] In 2001 had the
highest stakes possible

when rival companies

ECW and WCW both closed their
doors.

The stars of both defunct
companies aligned

in an attempt to take over WWE.

- Nothing can stop the WCW
and ECW.

[Michael] A winner take all
match was set between

the two sides, where the
losing team would be forced

to close
its doors forever.

[Jim] Winner take all.

One company will be out of
business

at the conclusion of this
next main event.

- That match at Survivor Series
2001 was huge, you know,

it had the top superstars in the
industry.

[Paul] Fighting for their
professional lives.

This could boil down to five
on one.

Oh my God.

[Jim] Almighty.

We just lost another one.

[Paul] The Alliance has a clear
advantage.

- The stakes couldn't be higher.

They really couldn't be bigger.

And I grew up a huge WCW guy,
so it was hard not to root

for The Alliance, but it was
a fight for survival.

[Jim] It has come down to Rock
and Austin.

[Paul] And Stone Cold will lead
The Alliance to victory.

- Anytime you step in a ring
with The Rock,

he's going to give you
everything he's got.

[Jim] Not this way.

[Taz] Oh God.

[Jim] Oh, yes, The Rock kicked
out.

The Rock Bottom.

The count.

The count.

It's over.

It's over.

The WWE has won it.

- What made that match so
special is that business wise,

I knew that we did something
that was very, very cool.

[Jim] The Alliance dies.

[Michael] Perhaps no superstar
saw more success in 2005

than "The Viper" Randy Orton.

He had done the unthinkable and
taken out The Undertaker,

seemingly for good.

[Jim] The Undertaker is in the
casket.

[Michael] And at the Survivor
Series, Orton celebrated a

career milestone, becoming the
first superstar to be the sole

survivor on his team for an
unprecedented

third year in a row.

The Legend Killer was certainly
riding high

until the Dead Man rose again.

The SmackDown
camaraderie-

[Jerry] Get in there.

- -here to congratulate Randy
Orton as SmackDown

dominates Raw again.

- I was the sole survivor.

I was being hoisted up on
everybody's shoulders,

and you know,

"All right, we did it."

And then I heard it.

[The Undertaker's music]

[Michael] Randy Orton looks as
if he's seen a ghost.

- When they placed that casket
out there

that place, you could
feel it shaking.

[Michael] Oh

[Taz] My God.

- There's a layer of ominous
foreplay

to what you're about to see.

[Michael] Oh my God.

The dead has risen.

- I'm standing there.

People are going nuts.

Boom.

Then I start that march.

[Michael] The Undertaker is back
for vengeance.

The Undertaker is clearing the
ring of every SmackDown

superstar who's out here.

[Taz] Oh, man.

[Jim] Orton running like a
scalded dog out of here.

- Yeah, it was-
it was just magical, man.

[Michael] Randy Orton is next on
the hit list.

- In 2001, WWE famously
purchased rival promotion WCW.

With it came the WCW Tag Team
Championship.

It didn't take long for the
Dudley Boyz to capture those

titles and rekindle an old
rivalry.

I'm talking about the WWE Tag
Team Champions, The Hardy Boyz.

And now at Survivor Series,

they were about to do
it one more time,

but with huge
implications.

- It will be the Dudleys taking
on the Hardys

in a title unification match.

[Michael] And what better way
for these risk takers to get

extreme than inside the confines
of a 15 foot high steel cage?

[Jim] This match can
be won by pinfall

or by both members
of one team,

escaping over the top
of the cage

all the way to the floor.

- You would think it's difficult
to put a tag team match together

in a steel cage, but for us and
the Hardys, it wasn't.

[Jim] In a bad place with a
hellacious landing.

- I really feel like this was
the last big meeting.

It was a bit of a grand finale
to the Hardys

and Dudleys rivalry, no
doubt about it.

[Jim] The human anatomy is going
to hurt and it's going

to hurt for a long time.

- We all had such good
chemistry.

We wanted to raise the bar like
we always did back then.

[Jim] Matt Hardy is out of the
cage.

We need one more.

- How's this going to end man?

Is Jeff Hardy going to do
something crazy off the top?

I felt like that's what
everybody kind of wanted to see.

[Jim] Jeff climbing to the top.

Jeff to get out of here.

And both feet touch.

The Hardys have done it.

Matt is encouraging his brother
to come on down.

[Paul] Oh, no.

Look at this.

Jeff Hardy can't resist.

- I've always kind of gravitated
towards that, uh,

not knowing what's
going to happen,

but taking the risk
to see if it may happen.

[Jim] Jeff, don't do this.

No.

Damn it.

Oh my God.

- I took the risk versus the
reward and it didn't pay off.

[Jim] And Matt's on the outside
trying to climb back in-

[Paul] One, two, three.

- -but it is too late.

[Paul] The Dudleys have made
history.

- Winning this match meant a lot
to myself and my brother D-Von.

Only team to hold the ECW, WWE
and WCW

World Tag Team Championship.

[Paul] This establishes The
Dudley Boyz

as the greatest tag
team in history.

- It is now time for our number
one moment.

In 2002, champion Triple H had a
huge target on his back.

Wth five of WWE's
biggest superstars

all gunning for the title.

Raw General Manager Eric
Bischoff made an announcement

that would change the landscape
of professional wrestling.

- At Survivor Series, you will
bear witness

to the Elimination Chamber.

[Micheal] For the first time
ever, we would see one of the

most Satanic structures ever
created,

the Elimination
Chamber.

[Jim] Two men will start.

One of the
internal chambers

will be opened every
three minutes.

The last man remaining is the
World's Heavyweight Champion.

- Yeah you'd hear

"Now we're building it, the
whole thing."

And the next time I saw it was
Madison Square Garden,

where I walked out and was like,
"Holy [bleep]."

[Jim] These men, their fate
being sealed,

locked inside this
unique structure.

- We were like the crash test
dummies

actually going out there.

- This is a steel grid that
we're getting body slammed on.

[Jerry] Oh.

Time's up again, JR.

Now who?

Uh oh.

[Jim] It's Kane.

- With the Elimination Chamber,

it was completely different
than-

really, I think anything the
company had done before that

and a lot more complex as far
as the actual match.

[Jim] Michaels catapulted

his body has been broken

perhaps in half here.

- This is brutal.

I mean, the thing is fricking
solid steel.

[Jim] Sweet Chin Music.

[Jerry] What?

[Jim] Michaels eliminates
Jericho, and we're down to two.

- It feels a bit contrived, but
at the same time,

no, it's a nice story that
everybody likes,

and sometimes that's okay to do.

[Jim] Sweet Chin Music.

[Jerry] He got him.

[Jim] Sweet Chin Music.

The cover.

The cover.

He's got- yes.

[Jerry] What?

[Jim] Shawn Michaels is the
world's champion.

Michaels believed in his ability
to win this match,

and he has survived it.

- They have something fresh,
something new,

something different.

The Elimination Chamber was
awesome.

- "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn
Michaels makes history

in one of the most brutal
matches we had ever seen.

Over the last four decades, the
Survivor Series has proven to be

a can't miss attraction,

and in the wild decade of the
2000s,

the action was nonstop.
