- There has never been a WWE
superstar quite like the

legendary Mick Foley.

- Yo Adrian, I did it.

- Today we look back at the

very best for the hardcore
legend.

- My God.

- Stone Cold with a beer bath.

- This is surreal.

- Look at that.

- He slammed him.

- Welcome, everyone to WWE's
Greatest Moments.

I'm Michael Cole, and on this
edition, we're looking back at

some of the Greatest Moments of
one of the true icons

of our business,

Mick Foley.

Foley was nothing like
professional wrestling

had ever seen before.

A performer who put his body in
harm's way for the entertainment

of audiences everywhere.

- Mankind from 15ft found
nothing but canvas.

- Early on in his career,

Mick Foley as Cactus Jack was
uncontrollable and unnerving.

And his debut on national
television was

anything but ordinary.

- There you see that box
and Sting sees it.

- I was in this giant oversize
gift box, getting ready to break

through for the most important
moment of my career.

- Here's your winner, Sting.

- It's like I have to make every
moment count.

- Cactus Jack just ran through
Theodore Long.

He's attacking Sting.

- When Mick stepped in the ring
with Sting,

Mick had an opportunity to
show everyone

just how ahead of
the game he truly was.

- Oh my God.

Off the top of the second
turnbuckle.

- I dropped the best elbow of my
entire career on Sting,

who stood there and took it,

and made me look like
I was somebody.

That was one of the most
important

nights of my entire career.

- This deranged human being has
assaulted Sting.

- When you think of hardcore
wrestling,

two names come to mind.

Cactus Jack and Terry Funk.

These two legends went to
absolute war against each other

for years overseas, with such
extreme battles that American

audiences hadn't seen at the
time.

That is, until ECW provided the
platform.

It was at Hostile City
Showdown 1995.

that Cactus and Punk
showed the States

just how hardcore
they could get.

- Terry Funk you're one
of the toughest,

but I'm Cactus Jack.

- This should be an outstanding
hardcore matchup.

- Terry was my mentor.

He was my idol.

But he made you work.

- Cactus going out after Terry
Funk.

I would put my body
on the line for Mick.

- Funk hammering Cactus.

Whips Funk into the table.

- I want that crowd to continue
to say "We love wrestling."

- Oh my Cactus misses.

- With him and Terry Funk
bringing all of this from Japan-

No one had ever seen anything
like that before.

- Oh my.

- It might not look that
revolutionary to today's eye,

but back then it was 100% the
alternative.

- Oh my here comes Funk.

The flaming branding iron and
trying to burn him alive.

Oh my God.

- The way the fire is flickering
off that mass of blood on my

face was, like, oddly beautiful.

- DDT on the chairs.

Cactus Jack defeating
Terry Funk,

but at what cost?

- I left that match in much
worse shape than I entered it.

- Now, everyone knew Mick Foley
was a main event performer.

- By the end of 1995, Cactus
Jack had grown tired of the

extreme nature of ECW

stemming from a sign in
the crowd directed

at his three year old son.

- Dewey Foley is a
three year old boy.

You sick sons of [bleep].

- Cactus renounced the hardcore
ways of the promotion,

and felt the fans had become too
blood thirsty.

He let his feelings known in one
of the most memorable promos

of all time.

- Professional wrestling
will never be respected,

no matter how
many teeth I lose.

No matter how many ears I
lose,

no matter how many brain
cells have to die.

I thought there was a little
bit of that feeling of being

confined to doing what the crowd
wanted us to do,

and then not having them
appreciate it.

Where have we really come to?

Lying in a hospital bed in
Munich, Germany,

watching my ear being thrown out
into a garbage can.

Not being able to take it on the
trip back

because I don't know the
German word for formaldehyde.

- Mick was at the forefront of
the whole hardcore movement,

if you will.

- It was thought almost
unimaginable that Cactus Jack

could turn on the ECW audience.

I've sacrificed myself for the
past ten years and left the

better parts of my past lying on
concrete floors.

- You could tell that

Mick really meant what he was
saying

- Well [bleep] you.

Who the hell do you think you
are?

That's why I actually said the
F You out loud to the audience

because I meant it.

We're not a wrestling
organization anymore.

We're the world's damn biggest
puppet show.

- Mick Foley would make his way
to WWE in 1996

and take on a new persona, the
deranged Mankind.

- I'm finally creating my very
own symphony of destruction.

- The Boiler Room Dweller was
unlike anything

WWE audiences
ever seen before.

Jim Ross was tasked with getting
to know more about this

unorthodox superstar in a tell
all interview

we wouldn't soon forget.

- What do you think the biggest
misconceptions are

that the WWE fans have as
it relates to Mankind?

- That I'm a bad person.

- The Mick Foley
interviews-

This was an opportunity for Mick
to share.

- They were throwing worms at
me, Jimmy.

So I picked up the largest
specimen.

Jimmy and I sucked it down.

You think girls wanted to kiss a
boy who had worms on his breath?

I'm a good kisser.

I said-

"What if I gave completely
honest answers?

But I do them in the character
of Mankind."

And I was asked, like, "Do you
think you could do that?"

And I said, oh, "I know I can."

I made a movie about myself
where I was a wrestler.

I was Dude Love.

We're here for only one reason.

One reason only fame, honor,
fortune, glory.

- He would shoot these funny
little films.

I just remember hearing the
stories of him

jumping off the roof of his
house into a bunch of boxes.

- The character Mankind was a
piece of-of who Mick Foley was.

- I walked out the first time I
saw barbed wire in place of

ring ropes, and I said,
"I'm finally home."

- Not a week goes by that
people don't ask me

about those interviews.

We felt like we had something
special.

- If there's something wrong
with my mind.

I think I'd be the first one to
know.

I consider that interview with
Jim Ross to be

on the list of the ten best
things I've ever done,

and I was a made man from
that moment on.

Mrs. Foley's little boy is
finally home.

- We learned that as a child,
Foley had created a character

named Dude Love.

- Dude Love is here.

- Made his WWE debut that
summer.

- Taking some serious, serious.

Ask me another question because
The Dude is on a roll.

- The Dude was scheduled to take
on Hunter Hearst Helmsley in a

Falls Count Anywhere match on
Raw.

With so many faces of Foley, you
never knew what to expect.

- Hunter Hearst Helmsley
set to meet Dude Love

in a falls count
anywhere match up.

- Falls count anywhere.

Well, that's not exactly my bag,
baby.

- Dude Love was kind of like the
comedy character.

- Mankind my main mandible,
up high big man.

Down- oh, you're too slow.

- Mankind, he was a sympathetic
person.

- But there's that other guy.

- Cactus Jack is back.

Somebody spank me.

I thought he was dead.

He's alive.

One place-

He's alive.

-it may be the darkest day of
your life.

- Cactus Jack was a psycho.

- Bang bang.

- A man that has wrestled on
nails and barbed wire.

This will be a day at Central
Park.

- In comes Cactus Jack-

a character that Mr. McMahon

did not think would ever step
foot inside a WWE ring.

t becomes the biggest
response I've ever received.

- And we've never seen Cactus
Jack in the WWE until tonight.

- It was like a dream come true.

Cactus Jack in Madison Square
Garden.

And I grew up taking trains
there, hitchhiking,

and now we are rocking the
house.

- This match has no
disqualifications,

and falls count anywhere.

- Imagine you're sitting in the
seat,

as a fan-

and then, not so long after,
you are now debuting and

performing in Madison Square
Garden,

where you used to be as a kid.

Kudos to Mick.

- Cactus Jack wins it.

- By 1998, the Mankind character
saw some drastic changes.

- After all, I know that
Vinnie's got a sweet tooth.

- Especially when it came to the
boss, Mr. McMahon.

- Mr. McMahon was hooked
up to a heart monitor

and a respirator in a hospital
due to a bruised ankle.

And he was the ultimate
cranky patient.

- Easy.

God, just easy.

- So when I showed up at the
hospital in East Lansing,

Michigan.

Turn that frown upside down.

Vince it's me.

It was with the idea that I
was going to cheer him up.

- I don't want any visitors.

- And he pulls out this sock and
he puts his hand through it,

and he's got Socko
painted on it.

Mr. Socko.

Say hello to Mr. Socko.

- I don't think anybody else
thought it at the time-

That that moment

would turn into one of the
things that Mick Foley

is remembered for.

- It's Socko.

- The Mandible Claw

with Mr. Socko.

- Socko being part of the WWE
ethos still now- cinema.

- And now you too can be a part
of the rave and rage of

Mr. Socko with your very own
Mr. Socko t shirt.

- The character had endeared
himself to people.

It was one of the best things
to ever happen to me.

- In 2004,

Randy Orton was a brash and up
and coming star who dubbed

himself a Legend Killer.

Making a name by attacking and

disrespecting those who paved
the way.

- You're not a legend.

You're a coward.

- One instance led to him
disgracefully

spitting in the face of Foley.

When it came time for the two to
be face to face one more time.

Things got heated.

- I'd like you to-

to spit in my
face again.

There you go.

- Mick Foley allowed
me to spit in his face

because we knew

that the fans would
just despise me for it

And they did.

- And it's still only spit.

It's still just spit,

and Randy, you got to realize-

I go on to say "This is not a
big deal."

I'm a father of four.

I've been thrown up.

I've peed on, I've been pooped
on.

So being spit on by you one more
time is not really a big deal.

- You knew that something deeper

was gonna come out
and Mick Foley.

You can't just go and spit on
Mick Foley

and not expect repercussions.

Come on.

- When you spit in my face,

you spit on my name,

you spit on my legacy,

you spit on the very business
that I love,

and I cannot, cannot, cannot,
cannot, cannot-

accept that.

- He knew how to garner any kind
of emotion

that he wanted to elicit at any
specific time.

- Not only will I accept that
hate that exists in my heart,

I will welcome it home

as a long lost friend.

It's all about finding that
resolve inside of you and

bringing that, you know,
monster back to the surface.

Because I worked too hard and
suffered too long to have my

reputation torn apart by you,
you little bastard.

And it turned out to be, I
think,

the best storyline I was in.

- By 2006, Mick Foley certainly
had a Hall of Fame resume,

but he always felt like
something was missing

his WrestleMania moment.

Well, Mick had several
WrestleMania bouts.

He never felt like he stole the
show.

A highly regarded matchup on the
grandest stage of them all

can undoubtedly
cement one's legacy,

and Mick Foley wanted just that.

- Mick Foley has gone from being
a hardcore legend

to a cuddly teddy bear.

- You and me at WrestleMania in
a hardcore match.

- This match is a
hardcore match.

- If you are on
WrestleMania

and your goal is not to
steal the show,

you don't belong at
WrestleMania.

- Spear.

- He hit it.

- He hit it, the spear.

- Wait a minute.

Foley had barbed wire
underneath

that shirt wrapped
around his chest.

- This was a different match in
that it almost felt like

the audience was worried.

- Right to the face.

Right between the eyes.

And now Foley is busted open.

- Oh, God.

- It was just a crescendo of
reactions.

- Thumbtacks.

Oh, take a look at this.

Take a look at this.

Oh, my.

- Oh, oh, oh.

- When you're in the heat of the
moment,

you're all in and you're doing
it.

And you have to be.

Because otherwise there's no way
you can pull it off.

- Oh.

- Oh my God, here we go.

Oh my God, what's gonna happen?

- Look out.

Oh.

- Oh my God.

- I knew without a doubt,

I just had my WrestleMania
moment.

- Cover.

- One, two, three.

[bell rings]

- I think it's the most violent
match in the history of

WrestleMania, and I knew that
wouldn't be forgotten.

- How you feelin boss?

- Awesome.

That's the smell a forearm hair
burning-

a little bit of skin as well.

Knowing that Edge and I created
that moment together,

knowing that I have that
exclamation point,

at the end of my career means
I can appreciate it

every single day.

- Mick Foley has more heart than
perhaps any

any superstar we've ever seen.

- Bruno Sammartino.

Hulk Hogan.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

They all have one thing in
common.

The illustrious WWE
Championship.

The richest prize in the game

was an achievement
that Mick Foley

never thought would be his.

That is, until one unforgettable
night on Raw in 1999.

- As you stand in the middle of
The Rock's ring,

you're not worthy of being
a world champ.

- What I'm going to do, very
simply,

is beat the living
hell out of you.

- Mankind was set to face off
against WWE Champion The Rock,

in one of the most emotional
moments

in the life of Mick Foley.

- The championship
is up for grabs.

The Rock against
Mankind.

- I in my heart, don't feel like
I'm WWE title material.

- He didn't look
like a superhero.

He looked like an everyday guy.

- This was the cool kid versus
the outcast.

- It was a recipe for

fans to hate me.

- Oh, we got big problems here
now.

- He's up against the odds

with an opponent like
The Rock.

And then-

["Stone Cold" Steve Austin's
music]

- What?

Stone Cold is here.

Oh, Stone Cold with a chair.

[bell rings]

- Mankind has achieved his
dream,

and the dream of everyone else

who's been told
"You can't do it."

- Just felt beautiful after all
these years working.

It felt like more of a lifetime
achievement award

than a WWE title.

I gotta tell you, this feels
pretty damn good.

- The world loves an underdog
story,

and we got to live that
through Mick Foley.

- I'd like to dedicate this
match to

my two little people at
home and say,

"Daddy-O did it."

- It is now time for our number
one moment.

One of the greatest rivals in
the career of Mick Foley has

been that of The Undertaker.

Over the years, these two would
wage war in some of the craziest

matches we've ever seen.

A Boiler Room Brawl.

A Buried Alive match.

- Mankind is not moving.

- And their most infamous one
inside the demonic

Hell in a Cell.

- The Hell in a Cell match is
officially underway.

- When Undertaker,
Mick Foley

start walking
around up there.

It's obvious that
it is not safe

to be on top of
Hell in a Cell,

and they get to the edge and
there's no warning of this.

Undertaker just grabs Mick
Foley.

- Look out.

- Oh no.

- Good God almighty.

Good God almighty.

That killed him.

God as my witness-

He is broken in half.

- It's one of the most iconic
moments in WWE history.

- He ain't getting up from this.

- What?

- What?

- And look at-

- You're kidding me.

- How in the hell is he
standing?

- Oh my God.

- I'm like,

"That's the toughest son of a
bitch right there,

I have ever seen in my life."

- Mankind is going back up.

- No way.

- And so is The Undertaker.

- No way.

- Makes him look like a
superhuman.

Just by doing that and
surviving,

and then coming back.

- He throws him up on the other
side this-

Oh.

That's it he's dead.

- When The Undertaker chokeslams
me, and I go through

that chair follows me down.

It smashed into my face.

Still missing those teeth.

And one of them ends up lodged
in my nostril.

- Seeing his tooth come out of
his nose.

It was just all so real.

- A chokeslam on the tacks.

- He's a different being,

Mick Foley man,

and that night he proved that to
the world.

- Even with the loss in the
record books that night,

Mick Foley proved that he
will go through anything

and still fight back.

There's no doubt Foley cemented
the respect that fans worldwide

have for him that night.

The hardcore legend turned WWE
Hall of Famer has proven time

and time again that dreams do
come true.

There will never, ever be
another Mick Foley
