- Tag team wrestling has always
been a must see attraction, and

arguably the hottest time for
such action would be the 1990s.

- We get in the ring sumpin'
bad going to happen.

- It's war.

It's D-Day.

D for Demolition.

- It was an era that redefined
what a simple two on two

contest could be.

- It was the most unlikely tag
team ever JR.

- Today we celebrate those
teams with some of the wildest

scenes in WWE history.

- New champions.

- We're going to need some
medical attention right now.

- See, one without the other
isn't any good.

- We're coming after you.

- This is WWE's Greatest
Moments.

- Acknowledge me.

- This is surreal.

- Look at this.

- He slammed him.

- Welcome, everyone, to WWE
Greatest Moments.

I'm Michael Cole, and on this
edition, we take a look back at

some of the greatest moments of
an era that defined

tag team wrestling-

The 1990s.

The decade saw some of the most
memorable duos to ever step foot

inside the squared circle.

Even some that made unlikely
success stories.

Case in point The Rock and
Mankind,

collectively known as The
Rock 'n' Sock Connection.

These strange bedfellows were
bitter rivals for much of 1999,

but when common foes came in the
form of the tag team champions

Big Show and Undertaker.

Hatchets were buried.

Gold is on the line.

- Big Show you come on out
with The Undertaker,

you face The Rock
in a handicap match.

- Mankind was talking to the
people.

And the people want Mankind as
The Rock's partner.

[crowd cheers]

- What?

- Wow.

- One time you will be the
people's partner.

- To see these two guys that
were constantly battling against

each other all of a sudden
formed

this very different
union.

And we couldn't be happier as
fans.

- I think some of the best
storylines are when

former rivals bitter
rivals team up.

The difference being-

they don't always have the
chemistry that Dwayne and I did.

- Both Mankind and The Rock
trying to double team.

- It was a nice dynamic between
us.

- What is this?

It's the most electrifying-

No.

- A double People's Elbow.

The Rock got the cover,
can he?

Yes.

[bell rings]

- We've got new tag champions.

- Just two complete opposites
that should not form

a tag team ever.

It was just this chemistry

that you can't help but
notice, and say,

"Oh my God. I want more
of this."

- Somehow, here they are.

The Rock 'n' Sock Connection.

Rock 'n' Sock.

Rock 'n' Sock.

- He was able to exercise his
muscles as a comedian.

- Know your role.

We were having the time of our
lives.

- This is the most unlikely tag
team ever.

- The Outsiders Scott Hall and
Kevin Nash were part of the

revolutionary faction known as
the New World Order,

totaling an impressive six times
as WCW Tag Team Champions.

But before all that, we need to
go back to the first.

Hall, and ash would have to take
down the toughest team

in WCW history, Harlem Heat.

- You see the World Tag
Team Champions

making their way in.

- You talk about the great tag
teams.

I think you put Harlem Heat at
the very top.

They dominated during a time
that was tough to dominate

because the roster was so
loaded.

- Hall and Nash, The Outsiders.

- It was Halloween Havoc and
that had that Vegas fight night

kind of feel to it.

- This place has erupted.

- Because it was the first time
the nWo was

going for their belts.

- The power of Hall and Nash
against the ability of the

World Tag Team Champion.

- We wanted to dominate the tag
team division,

so we wanted to show exactly how
good we really were.

- This has been an intense world
tag team title match as you will

ever want to find.

- I loved working with Booker
because we're kind

of similar in styles.

He's really athletic and really
can go.

- Going for the Harlem Hangover.

Got him.

Count it.

He's gotta-

- Come on Referee.

- He's got to get Stevie Ray
out.

Colonel Parker.

- Diesel wants the cane.

He's got the cane.

- Parker gave him the cane,
Tony.

Parker backed up and gave
him the cane.

- One.

Two.

Three.

- Oh, no.

[bell rings]

- The Outsiders winning the WCW
Tag Team Championship

by using Colonel Parker's cane-

It was perfect for defining who
The Outsiders were.

They were a bad guy team.

- We've got new champs.

- It gave us validity by
beating them.

And to do it with my best
friend.

Like that was the first time we
won a belt together.

- One of the most devastating
forces in the WWE tag team scene

were Ax and Smash, better known
as Demolition.

- You take a close look at this
face

and you're gonna feel
the pain of defeat.

- Ax and Smash were unstoppable.

That is, until the Colossal
Connection.

Andr� the Giant and Haku
shockingly defeated Demolition

for the tag team titles.

A rematch was set for the
thunderous Toronto SkyDome-

WrestleMania 6.

- Demolition with their
sights set

on getting their
championship back.

- Haku and Andre had been
established as being

just about unbeatable.

The idea that Demolition had to
beat Andre and Haku

was what made this
so enthralling.

- I love Demolition, they were
my favorite tag team

growing up as a kid.

Ax and Smash.

Let's go.

- And this one is underway.

Haku doing a tremendous job
here.

Watch out for Heenan.

Ah.

- Excellent teamwork here

by the Colossal Connection.

- Andre and Haku had things
under control until they

made a 'colossal' mistake.

- Andre holding him up for Haku,
ah-

Haku nailed his partner.

This place is going crazy.

It's over.

- New tag team champions.

[crowd cheers]

- For Demolition to win the tag
team championships again

in front of 67,000 people
was truly special.

- They have done it-

Ax and Smash.

- Perhaps one of the most
popular tag teams of all time

was the duo of Bret "The Hitman"
Hart and his brother in law,

Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart,

collectively known as
The Hart Foundation.

- Listen to the ovation here for
the Hart Foundation.

- Heading into SummerSlam 1990,

The Foundation looked to capture
their second tag team

championship by taking on the
powerful Demolition.

It would be a two out of three
falls match with tag team

gold up for grabs.

- What a match
up here.

Two out of
three falls.

- That's tag team experience
talking right there.

- My dad loved
wrestling Demolition.

And I always remember, like, as
a little kid, watching him

wrestle with my dad and Bret and
being really scared.

- Oh, wait a minute.

Oh, he got him.

[bell rings]

Demolition victorious getting
the first fall.

- Seeing Demolition with the
Hart Foundation,

"Oh, man, this is amazing."

- It's not a match where you can
predict what's

going to happen next.

That's why I think that match is
such a beautiful match.

- Oh, that's blatant
interference.

- The winners of the second
fall, the Hart Foundation.

- The third fall.

Both teams very tired.

- That match stands out as one
of the hardest working

Hart Foundation matches
that I can remember.

- Oh.

Beautiful.

- Two.

Three

[bell rings]

[crowd cheers]

- What a match.

What a match.

- They say you can never pick
your family,

though sometimes it
would be nice to.

That's exactly how "The Rocket"
Owen Hart felt about his older

brother, Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

At the 1993 Survivor Series,

Owen was the only Hart brother
eliminated during the family's

eight man tag match.

- Owen Hart is out.

- Blaming The Hitman for the
situation,

Owen began to show signs
of jealousy toward Bret.

- I'm sick and tired of carrying
the load of this family and

never getting any recognition.

It's always you, Bret.

- Things seem to be patched up
heading into the 1994 Royal

Rumble, where the two brothers
challenged The Quebecers

for the Tag Team Championship.

- Wait til you get a
load of the Brothers Hart

vying for the tag
team championship.

- A lot of the intrigue was
really more about how Bret

and Owen were going to get
along, and the Quebecers

exploited that as
much as they could.

- That's what I'm talking about,
McMahon.

- Owen coming in to try and help
out.

Meanwhile, look at this double
team.

Oh no.

And Bret somehow has to tag,
his brother, Owen.

Oh no.

Bret needs a tag.

Bret needs a tag.

- All he's got to do is tag his
brother.

- Brett is already injured.

All Brett has to do is tag his
brother Owen,

but in a last ditch effort,
Brett attempts a Sharpshooter.

- Wait a minute.

Brett just collapsed.

He had the opportunity to tag
and he didn't do it.

- The official has elected to
end this match.

- Owen got fed up and Owen
needed to jump out of

his older brother's shadow.

- What did I tell ya?

That's right Owen.

That's right.

You're right.

He should have tagged ya.

- In his mind, Brett took
something away from him,

and you felt that.

- Oh, no.

- It really hurt.

He kicked me absolutely as hard
as he could.

- He's not going to stand in the
shadow of big brother anymore.

- You saw Owen do what

everyone kind of thought he was
going to do.

But everybody hoped he wasn't.

- I had a chance, Bret.

And you stripped it away from
me.

You took it away from me, Bret.

You're too damn selfish.

- They hated him.

And they booed him.

[crowd boos]

- When the "Road Dogg" Jesse
James, and "Badass" Billy Gunn

combined their talents to form
the New Age Outlaws,

there was nothing they wouldn't
do to make it to the top of WWE.

- Oh my God.

What a chair shot.

- Once they were there, the
antics didn't stop.

The tag team champions were
challenged by D-Generation X to

start making some waves in WWE.

- Push the envelope, raise the
bar.

- And they saw an opportunity to
do so against

Cactus Jack and
Chainsaw Charlie.

- This is a No Holds
Barred match

between Cactus Jack and
Chainsaw Charlie.

- Chainsaw, backdrop right into
the dumpster.

- Chainsaw is down in the
dumpster.

- Oh no.

- Good grief, right in the
trash.

- We were making a name for
ourselves.

They put us up for the
challenge.

We accepted.

- Oh.

Oh, no.

- There's Road Dogg and Billy
Gunn, the New Age Outlaws.

- They're locking-

They're locking the dumpster
shut JR.

- We rolled it off of the
the stage there.

- Wait a minute.

Oh my God.

Don't you dare do that.

Good God, there's people in
there.

- I can't believe this.

- Get him out of there.

- Then everybody started coming
out and-and it was really

got hectic and frantic feeling.

- A lot of emotions and

looks like the New Age
Outlaws

went into business
for themselves.

- For them to make such a
statement, they're much bigger

stars now than they were
literally ten minutes ago.

- This moment set the stage for
them to really become

the New Age Outlaws, one of the
greatest tag teams of all time.

- Ladies and gentlemen, boys and
girls, children of all ages.

We are the New Age Outlaws.

- In the 1990s, there was no
team more innovative and

exciting than Rick and Scott-

The Steiner Brothers.

- Both All-Americans at Michigan
Big Ten Wrestling champions.

- Utilizing a unique blend of
power and agility,

it wasn't long before
the Steiners captured

the WCW World Tag
Team Championship.

- He got 'em.

- Heading into a big title
defense at WCW Super Brawl 1.

The Steiners found themselves
pitted against

their two best friends,
Sting and Lex Luger.

- Sting and Lex-

when we get in the ring,

we ain't gonna be buddies and we
ain't gonna be friends.

Me and my brother,

one thing to do and that's to
beat you up.

- We are ready to go for
one of the most eagerly

anticipated tag team
championship matchups.

- Good guys against good guys.

The fans don't really
know what-

to cheer or boo somebody.

- Those are the toughest matches
to have.

- And so we decided to just have
a match

where it was a free for all.

- We started suplexing,

and ground and pound.

- Four of the most popular
athletes in the history of WCW.

- It is electric here, baby.

- Pro Wrestling Illustrated
named this

Match of the Year in 1991.

It was a display of WCW's very
best.

- Belly to belly.

- That's it.

- My brother and I
and Sting and Lex-

It was a mutual respect
between all of us.

- Great gesture of good
sportsmanship.

- The greatest tag team match
I've ever witnessed.

- When you think of the all time
greatest tag teams,

you think of Hawk and Animal,
the Legion of Doom.

The powerhouses from Chicago won
titles wherever they went.

It was just a matter of time
before WWE gold

was around their massive waists.

- And when we get done chewing
you, we'll spit you out like the

stinking bad tartar that was
stuck to our teeth.

- Unfortunately for The Nasty
Boys,

they were standing in the way.

- Not wasting any time
attacking immediately.

- The Nasty Boys were not the
most beloved tag team ever.

A lot of fans wanted nothing
more than to see them

lose the championship.

- Nonstop action.

- Here come the Nasty Boys, with
the help of Jimmy Hart

and his motorcycle helmet.

- Oh, look at that from the
outside.

- That's using your head.

- Oh, look at this.

He got the rock.

Over to the head.

And another shot.

Hawk is up there.

He nailed him.

- God.

- We have a new champions.

- He got him.

- What a night.

[crowd cheers]

- I think the wrestling fans had
waited so long

for us to capture those
titles,

I'll be honest with you, I was
like a little kid when-

it felt like I won my
first Little League game.

- What a moment for Legion of
Doom.

- One of the most popular teams
of all time

were the duo of Shawn
Michaels and Marty Jannetty,

better known as The Rockers.

- Tag team specialists
The Rockers.

- The Rockers are going to do
like they always do turn heads,

turn on crowds, and come out on
top.

Woo.

- These two rocked and rolled
into the hearts of fans

worldwide with their impressive
athleticism

and double team maneuvers.

Everything about The Rockers
were in sync.

That is, until Shawn Michaels
began to think

he was outgrowing the tandem.

He wanted the spotlight to
himself.

- Shawn really bent out of shape
here.

- And one of the most infamous
scenes in WWE history.

Michaels and Jannetty appeared
on Brutus Beefcake Barbershop

to settle their differences.

- Maybe we'll get this
thing straightened out, BrAIn.

These two guys haven't been
getting along too well of late.

- I want to get you out here on
the Barbershop so we can talk

about this thing and get it all
straight once and for all.

- These are all guys
I've been

working side by
side with for years,

so I knew there was going
to be something.

- I can assure you, as the
captain of this team,

that there are absolutely
no problems

with The Rockers whatsoever.

- The Barbershop was something

That Shawn and I had talked
about for a bit.

I remember when the first time
he told me,

"Hey, I don't want to tag
the rest of our career."

And I was okay with that.

I don't know what's going on in
there with Shawn Michaels.

If you want to stick together
and make this thing work,

we're going to shake hands.

- Ladies and gentlemen,
The Rockers.

- We had had a really good run.

And then it gets to that point
where you can continue to do

this, but a lot of it is going
to be just

more of doing the
same.

- See, one without the other
isn't any good.

- Oh.

- Oh, I knew he was going to
do that.

- I remember being like, "Oh,
this is not the Shawn Michaels

that I used to root for."

- No.

- Oh my God.

- You see the glass, shh,

you know it's like movie
stuff,

you've seen in a
thousand Westerns.

- We need a paramedic here.

- Is there a problem with
The Rockers?

- At the time,

you had no idea that it would
become this iconic moment.

- I don't think so.

- We have finally reached our
number one moment.

The late 1990s saw the rise of a
young tag team known

as The Hardy Boys,
Matt and Jeff.

Audiences were left stunned at
some of their high flying

and risk taking antics.

- Double- oh.

[crowd yells]

- Double.

- And over the years, the
brothers would undoubtedly

become the kings of
the ladder match.

But it all had to start
somewhere.

And at No Mercy 1999, the Hardy
Boys took on Edge and Christian

in the very first tag team
ladder match.

- This is the first tag team
ladder match in history.

[bell rings]

- Our chemistries were so good
together

and we knew if we went

in there and we had a ladder
match with these guys,

that it would be
something special.

- Oh.

- Oh man.

- What's he gonna do now?

- What are they doing here?

- Oh.

- My God a drop kick.

- And I heard the reaction.

I was like, "Ooh, I've never
heard that before-

for our matches"

This is going to get interesting
because if they

think that's something, we got a
lot more in store.

- I got a feeling we're going to
see it all in this match JR.

These guys are going to do
everything in their power

to get that money.

- Look at that.

- Leapfrog ladder,
for God sakes.

- There was absolutely no fear
in anyone involved.

That willingness really helped
set.

them apart and make them
different.

- It felt like we were kind of

changing the direction of
tag team wrestling.

And other teams,

you know, if they wanted to hang
with us,

they had to step up their games.

- When the ladder
came into play, man,

there was no
stopping this man.

- Have you ever?

- I have never.

Absolutely not.

I have never seen any offense
like that.

- That's it.

- But my favorite was the see
saw spot.

- Look at this.

Oh.

- What the heck?

- Jeff hardy.

A lot of teetering.

He can't-

- He got it.

[bell rings]

- God almighty.

The Hardys have won the match.

Christian and Edge have nothing
to be ashamed of.

What a magnificent effort by
those two.

- We'd never received a standing
ovation before.

And-and then it wasn't-

That wasn't really a thing.

I don't know, blew me away.

And but that's also when it
started to sink in,

like, "Okay, we did it."

- All four of us went from just
being WWE wrestlers at that

point to becoming WWE
superstars.

- What an amazing display.

- The words game changing are
thrown around a lot these days,

but that match was undoubtedly
just that.
