When I first saw this show,

I was

instantly drawn to it.

I knew that this show was made

for crazy people like me.

This is insane.

Just the concept

of being stripped down
from everything.

I like the idea of growth

and expansion
and challenging yourself.

That's why I decided

to become
a personal trainer. It was

because I didn't
touch a weight

until I was 36 years old.

I was lost.

I was depressed
and fitness changed my life.

It made me confident,
made me strong.

And I wanted to be able
to make people feel that way.

I'm nervous.

You're nervous? Why?

I want to be able
to show my daughters

that I can do this.

Being in the military,
in the Marine Corps,

I was a combat engineer.

When we were in Iraq,
we had to fix the roads

that were destroyed by IEDs.

Those were
all huge challenges.

And this show
is one big challenge.

And it's something
that I truly believe
that I am built for.

But as excited as I am,

I'm not even naked.

And I'm already
kind of afraid.

If I'm being a little honest.

Like, this is real.

Just looking around
and seeing the thorns.

There's jaguars, pumas.

There are some lethal spiders.

Like, it literally feels

insane.

But 14 days
in the Yucatan Peninsula,

like, let's do it.

this 14-day fan challenge

with a primitive
survival rating

Honestly, being naked
is the least of my concerns.

Take my clothes and keep them.

But I'm very nervous
about my partner.

to go meet my jungle friend.

I'm doing this.

When I first watched
Naked and Afraid,

I thought these people
are out of their minds.

And then I started
learning more about bushcraft,

learning more about survival.

Pretty close.
Not bad for an amateur.

You know, I was in the Army
for almost 30 years.

I was a police officer.

And I realized that
this is something I can do.

These are my people.

But, you know,
I feel a little bit like Toto.

I'm not in Arkansas anymore.

Uh, bugs are everywhere.

Tarantulas, scorpions, bats.

But, you know,
hey, what's life
without a little adventure?

14-day fan challenge,

Mandy and Ernie will head
four miles southwest

through Mexico's rugged
northern Yucatan Peninsula,

a brutal terrain
of dense jungle

and razor-sharp
limestone rocks.

In the summer,
blistering triple-digit heat

gives way
to violent tropical storms

that strike without warning.

Beneath the dense canopy,

there are predatory puma,

venomous spiders,

rabies-carrying vampire bats,

and the highly aggressive
cottonmouth,

a deadly threat
on both water and land.

Okay.

of Ernie are awesome.

Starting fire was something
that I did not know how to do,

and it was something
that I really tried hard

to be able to do to be able

my biggest fear is, like,

practicing making fire

and then it not working out.

of that cenote,

there'll be

To the north,
through three miles

of thick jungle,

lies one of the area's
large cenotes,

a natural sinkhole
in the limestone,

filled with
life-sustaining groundwater.

But these pools also contain

hidden dangers,

including deadly
water moccasin,

caiman,

and the American crocodile

that can grow
over 15 feet long

and has one of
the strongest bites
of any animal,

with a crushing force

of over 3,700 pounds
per square inch.

But if you figure we did,

what, a few miles
just to get here...

- Yeah.
- ...it's gonna be
a few miles

- to get there.
- To get there, I know.

I know going to the next spot

is a risk,

but we can't stay here.

- I'll work on some shoes.
