In Blackpool, Eddie Forrester is
supposed to meet a friend for dinner,

never shows.

When he didn't turn up, Trevor knew
there was a problem straight away. He

Eddie's routine. This was a man who
didn't deviate from it.

Eddie was last seen on CCTV returning
from a walk with Cathy.

Concerned, his friend visits Eddie's
flat to check on him.

Cathy was by herself.

Eddie wouldn't have left Cathy. That
was, again, just really out of thought.

was really odd.

And so Trevor was really getting
concerned at this point.

Worried family and friends file a
missing persons report with the police.

He was a friendly man, but there was a
reservation with him, I think, on some

level. He knew that he needed to protect
himself.

And there was something that the police
noticed that was deeply concerning.

There was blood.

And it was at this point that this went
from a missing persons investigation to

a possible murder investigation.

Blackpool is a popular seaside town in
the north of England, a summer holiday

destination for many tourists.

Blackpool is an historic seaside town in
Lancashire, in the northwest of

England, and it's famous for the
Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach, the

illuminations. This is a
quintessentially English seaside town.

And I think that's why people flock
there. This is a town that people have

going to for decades.

It used to be very busy and thrive with
tourism.

However, that petered off a bit after
the introduction of package holidays

abroad, whereby tourism sort of declined
and claim rates went up a bit.

Blackpool is somewhere that thrives off
a seasonal industry.

So, out of season, there can be quite a
lot of unemployment and poverty.

Blackpool does have a higher than
average crime rate when compared to

towns in the UK.

And that's particularly in the more
central regions where you'll find

and nightlife.

And those problems, the crimes they
have, are generally theft -related, drug

-related offences and antisocial
behaviour.

Murder happens in Blackpool. It's still
big news. It will have an impact on the

local community because, again, the
issues that do go on, you don't expect

murder to be as prevalent element.

So, yes, there will be a shock to the
community when murder occurs in that

Living in Blackpool is 55 -year -old
Edward Forrester, known to family and

friends as Eddie.

Edward Forrester, or Eddie, as he
preferred to be called, was 55 years

He was a slight man, he was 5 feet 5
inches tall and he had mobility issues,

used a stick to get around.

He was described as a quiet man,
peaceful man, reserved, likeable,

friendly and he was a regular sight
around Blackpool with his beloved rescue

Cassie. He would take her out twice a
day at least and she meant everything to

him.

Eddie Forrester suffered a brain injury
in the mid -90s, and this left him with

learning difficulties.

He struggled to read or write, he had a
speech impediment, and, yeah, I think it

would be fair to describe him as
vulnerable, and I think that was

he was quite reserved. He was a friendly
man, but there was a reservation with

him, I think, on some level.

He knew that he needed to protect
himself and to keep his circle small.

Eddie's a Glasgow native.

He moved there a number of years ago,
moved to Blackpool. Not long after

to Blackpool, he met his best friend,
Trevor Lake.

Eddie's best friend was a man called
Trevor Lake. The two had met not long

Eddie had moved to Blackpool.

The pair had known each other for 22
years, and they supported each other,

relied upon each other.

And this was a beautiful friendship.

These two men would take it in turns to
have dinner together. So every other

night they would eat together.

Eddie would provide the ingredients and
Trevor Lake would cook for him. So they

knew each other's routines. They would
speak on the phone every day and they

would see each other every other day
too.

Eddie lived alone.

an upstairs flat and two -and -a -block
flats and Seafield Road.

From Seafield Road, you can almost see
the coast from where they are. It's

almost run parallel with the coast.

Lovely properties.

Quite a few of the houses, in particular
the one that Eddie lived in, they're

sort of terraced houses, sort of 30s
built, but they're split into flats.

Great views of the sea and quite a nice
little community.

The sea field is not one of those areas
that's not been prone to violence

before, because it's been known that
there was a murder there, which a couple

were killed. It was a serial killer,
went by the name of Cul -de -sac Killer,

who had killed an old people. And in
fact, the killer targeted older people.

And so Seafield has had some murder in
the past.

Despite the fact that there is a high
level of violence in Blackpool, murder

not one of the biggest elements of it.
It doesn't show out so much.

On 1 September 2023, Eddie goes about
his usual routine.

Just after one in the afternoon on
Friday 1 September 2023, Eddie was last

on CCTV returning from a walk with
Cathy.

By that time, Eddie had made plans with
his friend Trevor to have dinner with

him the following day being Saturday the
2nd of September 2023.

And when he didn't turn up, Trevor knew
there was a problem straight away. He

knew Eddie's routine.

This was a man who didn't deviate from
it. So he was suspicious that there was

problem straight away.

So it was really unusual for Eddie to
not turn up as planned. It was really,

really out of character for him. So when
he didn't show up, Trevor was really

concerned. So he did what you would
expect and he went round to Eddie's

But there was no sign of Eddie. And
Cassie was by herself.

Eddie wouldn't have left Cassie. That
was, again, just really out of sorts,

really odd.

And so Trevor was really getting
concerned at this point.

Trevor went downstairs, he went to the
flat below Eddie to inquire as to his

whereabouts, and that's where William
Wilkinson lived.

Wilkinson answered the door and said
that he'd not seen or heard from Eddie.

Eddie's neighbour, 65 -year -old William
Wilkinson, lived beneath him in their

shared building.

The two knew each other, and I think it
would be fair to say that they didn't

get on as neighbours.

Wilkinson would complain about Eddie
and, you know, and then Eddie would say

that Wilkinson had been bullying him and
there was back and forth between the

two of them.

Just a slightly awkward, troublesome,
neighbourly relationship between two

fellas that lived in the same block.

There had been a falling out between
Eddie and William Wilkinson and this

falling out was around Wilkinson feeding
birds.

And this was attracting vermin,
according to Eddie. And Eddie was

about this.

So Eddie wrote to Blackpool Council, who
in turn wrote to Wilkinson to inform

him of the concerns.

And I think it's fair to say that this
was the start of a feud between the two.

Following Trevor speaking with William
Wilkinson, he then attended a hospital

Blackpool to see if Eddie had been
admitted there.

which would provide an explanation of
why he wasn't within his flat at that

time. He was concerned that he may have
come to some harm, so he just wanted to

double -check that he hadn't been
admitted.

It caused Trevor and Eddie's friends and
family that much concern that he was

reported as a missing person to the
police, and a missing person

was conducted.

When police went out to inquire as to
Eddie's whereabouts, they went to

flat first.

Of course, there was no sign of him.
They went to Wilkinson's flat below, and

Wilkinson wasn't there either.

And there was something that the police
noticed that was deeply concerning.

There was blood around the front
doorframe.

And it was at this point that this went
from a missing persons investigation to

a possible murder investigation.

When concerned friends and family file a
report, the police begin their

investigation in Eddie's home, where
they notice blood on his neighbour

Wilkinson's door.

This is the Police and Criminal Evidence
Act that came in in 1984.

Case would have been used in this
circumstances to force entry, believing

someone may be hurt inside the premises
because of the fact that they found

blood splatters in the communal hallway.

So they're now checking both addresses
using that power.

And no one's there, which is very
unusual.

So, of course, that heightens their
concerns.

It developed.

Very quickly, from a missing persons
investigation to a murder inquiry, the

suspicions were raised almost
immediately upon police attendance.

William Wilkinson lived directly below
Eddie, and one of the first things that

was written was that Wilkinson wasn't
home at the time of police attendance.

There was blood found within a communal
hallway.

Police thereafter gained entry to
Wilkinson's flat.

And they detected a strong smell of
cleaning fluid, which was giving

that there had recently been a massive
clean -up within the flat.

The smell strongly of, like, cleaning,
like, TPP type fluid.

Something, anyway.

They could just faintly see blood
splatters in the property.

And then the strong smell of cleaning
fluid, where it suggests that someone's

tried to attempt to clean up and hide,
destroy evidence that may potentially be

within that premises.

And that's what we don't want.

So as police officers, we'll try and
secure that as best we can. Even with an

attempt to clean up, you will still be
able to use certain lights.

Forensics team will be able to see where
there's any staining and blood behind

even some of the cleaning. So that, you
know, there's potential evidence

retrieval in that respect.

Police started thinking, well, hang on,
something's happened here, and the

majority of the blood was in the flat
downstairs, in Wilkinson's flat.

They're now searching the flat, and they
find what appears to be...

Potential murder weapon, which was a
broken piece of wood with a metal cap on

with a nail sticking out, which is often
referred to as a bung, hidden in a bag

with blood.

It's a little bit more than just a
missing person.

There's some foul play that's taken
place.

So you would now start looking at
calling a forensic team down to start

examining the scene, look for
fingerprints.

There was a fingerprint in blood, one of
the doors there.

and there was blood in the hallway, in
the communal hallway.

So all of that would need to be sort of
retrieved and then identified.

Given the mounting evidence, Wilkinson
becomes the chief suspect in Eddie's

disappearance and possible murder.

So they look at the CCTV, they track
Wilkinson over a number of days, and

there's a lot of CCTV in Blackpool
because of the type of town it is.

and so they were able to really get a
good trace of how he'd been occupying

himself over those days he'd been doing
all his usual things he'd been going to

the shops he'd gone to put a bet on he'd
been to the barbers and changed his

hairstyle he usually had like long
straggly hair and a beard and but he'd

completely changed his appearance so
that he had his clean cropped hair and

clean shaven But he'd also been seen
carrying chopping bags around with him

while he'd been doing it and depositing
things in bins. It was, on the one

level, very day -to -day activity.

In another sense, a little odd.

On the basis that there's possibly
incriminating evidence in those bins,

need to identify...

where all the bins are, identify the
collection route, so you'd have to go

through the local council to do that,
and identify the waste management unit

that do that, and then work out the
schedule and the sequence, and when

likely to have been taken to the waste
management site and dumped.

And that gives you some timescale.

But even then, it could be difficult to
identify where those items are going to

be, especially if it's quite a large
deposit site.

In those circumstances, being the area,
it probably will be the same local

authority with the same waste management
department.

And they'll probably have one site that
they might put all of that rubbish. Even

though we recycle, so there are bins for
recycling, you know, normal general

rubbish, it's still difficult to work
out where these items are going to be.

recovering, let's say, in these
circumstances, the worst -case scenario

you've got body parts in different bags
in different locations around Blackpool,

then it's going to be very difficult to
identify in a waste site where they are.

DC TV footage also reveals Wilkinson's
white Peugeot Boxer travelling towards

Cumbria.

Wilkinson had been kitting out a camper
van and over the next few days he went

on a trip in the van. It was a Peugeot
Boxer van and he could sleep in it. It

was all kitted out for, you know,
weekends away and that sort of thing.

And he was spotted travelling north up
the M6 heading up towards the Lake

District. On one stop off...

On the motorway, he changed his clothes.

He stopped nearby a quarry that was just
off the M6.

He stopped in Kendal. And all the time
he was just making these little stops

in these remote locations on the way up
to Cumbria.

There's a manhunt underway and they're
trying to track down Wilkinson now.

By this point, he's the prime suspect
with everything that they've found.

And when they trace him, he's sleeping
in his van in a pub car park in

in the Lake District.

Police tracked down William Wilkinson.
He was asleep in his van when they came

knocking and they arrested him straight
away.

I'm going to give you a quick search,
right? So you've got a bag. Have you got

any needles or anything like that?

Wilkinson is arrested on suspicion of
murder and taken to the police station

questioning.

And

he

initially denied any knowledge of

Eddie's disappearance or any knowledge
of any kind of disputes.

and said that it was just a coincidence
that he was not at home and that he'd

fled to Cumbria. He was just, according
to him, enjoying some downtime in the

countryside.

Eddie's still alive.

Eddie's somewhere.

He is dead. We need to know where he is,
William.

Tell us where he is.

What clothing have you had with you when
you've been shopping?

Now, those two blood marks have been
analysed and a DNA profile has been

obtained which relates to the victim.

How can you explain that?

Why is his blood inside your house?

Is that because you've assaulted him,
killed him and disposed of the evidence,

what left some behind?

Wilkinson was taken away for an
interview and he wasn't cooperative at

answered no comment to all questions,
which isn't unusual.

Sometimes people are advised to do that.

But there was an arrogance about how he
went about this as well. He was, as you

would expect, he was put in a cell in
custody, and as the custody sergeant was

taking him back to his cell, he just
nodded at him and he said, Good luck,

Very arrogant.

With Wilkinson in custody, police
continue searching for Eddie, knowing

without a body, securing a conviction
will be difficult.

The police are dealing with what they
would call a no -body murder. They think

that Eddie's been killed.

They've arrested the person that they
think has done it, but they've not got

Eddie's body. They've not found him.
He's still a missing person at this

You do have circumstances of no -body
murders. It's very difficult to say what

the scenario is until you sort of delve
a little bit deeper, and it would be

looking at the volume of blood, for
example, would be a sign.

But if the person's been busy for some
time, it does heighten your concerns.

It only becomes a nobody murder, if you
like, once you've probably identified

the suspect and they've been arrested,
and then you're using that opportunity

say, well, where are they? Are they
alive?

Have you hidden them somewhere? Have
they been kidnapped?

So it's only when you do that that you
identify whether or not they're a nobody

murder.

And because of the geography of it...

Obviously, Lancashire Police were
searching in Blackpool, looking for

but then there was also the element of,
was there anybody in Cumbria? Had he

been taken? What was going on here? They
had to work quite closely together, the

two police forces, to try and piece
together, with nothing from Wilkinson to

on.

Extensive inquiries involving multiple
officers, detectives, search dogs,

colleagues from Cumbria Police.

These inquiries were launched.

Especially in that area of England, it
is very, very vast.

It's very widespread.

There's a lot of woodland. There's a lot
of uneven surfaces.

So it was a near impossible task for
Lancashire and Cumbria Police

to carry out a search of that scale.

The operation went on for almost two
weeks and it was on September the 13th

Cumbria Police managed to find a
breakthrough.

They contacted Lancashire Police to tell
them about a discovery that they'd made

in Ashes Lane in Staveley.

Sadly, they'd found a suitcase there
containing human remains and they

that these were parts of Eddie's body.

With the discovery of Eddie's remains,
police can finally confirm his death.

Now their focus becomes building the
case against Wilkinson to uncover the

motive and see justice served for this
brutal killing.

Blackpool, September 2023.

65 -year -old William Wilkinson is in
custody in connection with the murder of

his neighbor, 55 -year -old Eddie
Forrester.

Police make a breakthrough in the search
for Eddie's body, discovering a

suitcase containing human remains.

But unfortunately, it's not his full
body.

Other remains were found across Cumbria,
Kendal and other locations, often just

discarded in woodland.

Because of the way that Eddie's body
parts were found, it became apparent

after he'd been killed, his body had
been dismembered. The evidence pointed

Wilkinson using a knife and possibly a
saw, some kind of an electric saw, to

actually... dismember Eddie's body and
place them into bags and dispose of.

Following the dismemberment of Eddie's
body, Wilkinson spent a number of days

disposing of various body parts across
multiple counties.

So he disposed of Mr. Forrester's head
in a quarry off the M6.

He disposed of something else in a river
in Kendal.

He disposed of Eddie's arms and legs in
Cumbria also.

And this was a crude attempt to ensure
that Eddie's body would never be found.

The police are using everything that
they've got. They've still not got

from Wilkinson to help them. So they're
using all the different types of

evidence gathering that they can to try
and piece together a timeline of what's

happened. They look at the CCTV.

From the first couple of days, they're
looking and they see Wilkinson going

about his business in Blackpool with
carrier bags, dropping things off in

bins. This now is assumed to be body
parts.

And then in the days that followed, as
he makes his way up to Cumbria, he's

depositing things at those sites that he
stopped at as well, at the quarry in

the Ashes Lane, until eventually they
find him in the pub car park.

Investigators begin carefully re
-examining all of the evidence.

After the murder, Wilkinson
systematically dismembered the body and

various body parts in plastic bags.

These plastic bags were then moved into
his white Peugeot boxer van and so began

a meticulous, methodical and systematic
approach to disposing of Eddie's remains

and anything that might link him to this
crime.

And this was his initial attempt at
getting away with this.

While the killing appears impulsive, it
was followed by what seems like

calculated concealment of evidence.

Because of the way that some of the body
parts were deposited in public bins and

the timescales that they were working
to, sadly those bins had been emptied

collected and gone off to wherever
public bins go to. And the body parts

were deposited have never been
recovered.

Despite extensive searches, police in
both Cumbria and Lancashire were unable

ultimately to locate all of Eddie's
remains.

And I think we have to accept that given
the nature of the locations where some

of those remains were disposed, it's
likely that animals had taken some of

off.

It was subsequently identified that...

Wilkinson was trying to get access to a
boat. That could be for a number of

reasons. However, the most likely reason
is that he was going to go quite far

out and dispose of more remains.

It doesn't bear thinking about what
Wilkinson was going to do if he got a

It could still be the case that he was
going to escape.

He would have got very far, but his
state of mind at the time wasn't

stable, backed up by the horrific act
that he just committed.

An investigation like this isn't common.

It is only carried out in relation to
the more serious of crimes where there

a significant risk to a member of the
public coming to harm and that the

perpetrator may dispose of crucial
evidence.

It's very rare to have a manhunt like
Lancashire Police were left with

the murder of Eddie. The search and the
manhunt spanned.

More than one county, there was more
than one police force involved.

There was various crime scenes because
there was various body parts discovered

through all different areas.

So the manhunt for him at that time was
huge.

There would have been a number of
specialist resources deployed and a

number of resources of both police
forces were mobilised.

With no additional remains discovered,
the pathologist's further examination of

Eddie's recovered body parts... revealed
that he had likely fought for his life.

Eddie Forrester's cause of death was
blunt force trauma to the head.

He had been hit over the head ten times
with this crude murder weapon and he'd

suffered abrasions to his head and skull
fractures.

and analysis shows the defendant struck
forceful blows into wet blood and it was

determined that Eddie was both in an
upright position and on the floor when

these blows were rained down on him and
I think that's really disturbing because

this is a vulnerable man who is on the
floor defenseless and the blows continue

to rain down on him.

After death Wilkinson inflicted incised
wounds to the chin the jaw and to the

right side of the mouth and it was later
determined that these were gratuitous

these weren't part of the later
dismemberment the post -mortem

also showed once they've identified
various parts of eddie's body That he

defensive marks on his arms, which
suggests that he was trying to protect

himself whilst he was being hit,
probably raised his arms up in defence

Wilkinson.

One thing that was never recovered was
Eddie's heart. When the police and the

forensics looked at his body and his
torso that had been found, it was really

clear that the heart had been
deliberately removed.

That was described as an extra
gratuitous act that had been done by

I understand that in order to dispose of
Eddie and take him away from the area,

that it would be easier to do it in
smaller pieces, so dismembering, yes,

then, you know, to take the heart out, I
can't understand that. And it seems

quite strange, other than the fact that
it was a sort of control element and a

hatred element to be able to do that.

It's hard to know what that might
represent for Wilkinson. Was it some

of who Eddie was? Is that what he was
removing?

What did he think that Eddie had done
that deserved such gruesome treatment?

I would imagine that for Eddie he was
completely shocked.

by the attack almost like a surprise
attack and I would imagine the attack

probably took place shortly after he
came in from the last time we saw him

been up to his flat put the dog in and
at some point he's attacked by Wilkinson

shortly afterwards so it's the element
of surprise that's taken him back a bit

and then once he's been subdued on the
floor the fact that someone's trying to

hit you with this metal object on their
head it must have been Completely

frightening for him.

Very, very scary.

And at some point he would have probably
passed out and then, you know, he would

have carried on. I mean, it's very
difficult to say how many blows where,

know, he actually was the final blow.
But, yeah, it's very frightening for

It's hard to say what happened at the
flat and what happened in Seafield Road.

It's a strange situation that you've got
two neighbours that don't get along.

There's friction.

It happens. You've got a man who's got
no previous convictions for violence, a

middle -aged man. Has he just lost his
temper and hit out in a rage?

What's happened? Eddie seems such a mild
-mannered, innocent victim, really,

quite naive and vulnerable.

It's really hard to try and gauge what's
happened to become such a terrible and

graphic, gratuitous case.

We can only reflect on the fact that an
argument may have occurred after Eddie

came back from his walk and Wilkinson
armed himself with this weapon to subdue

Eddie and then, you know, kill him by
multiple blood trauma injuries to his

head.

If you think about it as maybe an
impulsive act, sort of a loss of

loss of temper, that sort of thing.

You would imagine there to be some sort
of horror at what he'd done, some kind

of shock moment, and, oh, my God, you
know, I need to put this, I need to tell

somebody. To go on and to go about his
day -to -day business, to go and get his

hair cut and change his appearance, to
dismember the body in the way that he

did, I mean, that's really chilling.

It's very, very concerning, the actions
that Wilkinson took following this

murder.

The concerning part is that he seemed to
know what he was doing by dismembering

Eddie.

So it begs the question, has he done
this before?

Because it is a big, big jump if that is
the first person he's murdered to then

dismember him.

So it then causes great concern. What
has he done in the past to cause him to

to that length again?

I think Wilkinson actually thought he
was relatively clever in his actions

the murder. I think he thought if he
could dispose of Eddie's remains in

entirety across multiple locations, that
he would never come under suspicion.

But there was so much he overlooked, it
didn't take long for the police to have

him pinned as their number one suspect.

Their first visit to his flat...

made them suspicious. There was blood
around the doorframe. He'd disappeared.

His story didn't stack up.

Wilkinson didn't cooperate with the
police in terms of locating further

of Eddie's, and this showed a real lack
of remorse on his part for what he'd

done.

Imagine Eddie's family's pain. Not only
had Eddie been killed, but he was

returning back to them in pieces.

Eddie Forrester's family were denied the
ability to grieve in the aftermath of

Eddie's murder.

There was a number of weeks, I think it
was three weeks, where two police forces

across two different counties were
desperately attempting to locate Eddie's

remains to grieve. They were in limbo,
waiting for the next discovery to be

made. And they actually later said every
discovery that was made was like

reliving. That news that Eddie had been
murdered all over again.

And this was a double blow for Eddie's
family. They had lost a loved one in the

most brutal circumstances.

Not only did they have to contend with
that, they also had to contend with the

fact that his remains had been dispersed
across multiple locations, across at

least two counties.

And they delayed his funeral. They
waited until the 18th of December, two

half months.

after his murder to bury him because
they were so hopeful that all of his

remains would be located.

And it was so important for them that
they could locate all of them and bury

Eddie as one whole.

But very sadly for them, that was not
possible.

So he can't rest in peace as far as
they're concerned.

The savage killing and drawn -out
recovery of Eddie's body leave his

friends heartbroken and traumatised as
the murder trial looms.

Lancashire Police have charged 65 -year
-old William Wilkinson with the murder

of his neighbour, 55 -year -old Eddie
Forrester.

As both parties prepare for the murder
trial, police re -evaluate their

against Wilkinson.

The Thagard recovery in relation to
Eddie's remains being found

would effectively strengthen the case
against Wilkinson.

Especially with the forensic analysis
that's carried out in relation to where

it's disposed, how it's disposed.

Because inquiries would have been
undertaken to establish Wilkinson's

In the face of the upcoming murder
trial, Wilkinson expresses little to no

remorse.

When Wilkinson walked into the dock, he
just looked like a middle -aged bloke

from Blackpool.

But then when you hear the horror of
what he'd done, it was hard to look at

man sitting in the dock and think about
the events that had took him there.

In the victim impact statement, Eddie's
family said that when they learned that

he'd been murdered, they assumed it
would be something like a single punch,

something, maybe a momentary flashpoint
that had got out of hand. But it was

really shocking and horrific for them to
learn.

the way that this had happened in such a
calculated way.

Wilkinson walked into the dock to be
sentenced, and he seemed very calm. I

suppose he's a man who's not really got
a lot in the way of emotion to have been

able to have done what he'd done, but he
looked very much like the man who was

pottering around Blackpool, going to the
bookies, going to the barbers.

His hair had grown back a little bit,
but he didn't look like...

a man who was shocked at what he'd done
and was facing the music he he almost

looked like he was just there to accept
his fate at this point the

discoveries in cumbria and lancashire by
their respective police forces meant

there was really no option i think for
wilkinson at this point but to plead

guilty and obviously that was done with
a view to reducing his sentence he knew

that this was something he couldn't get
out of now, but he knew that he could

potentially reduce his sentence.

With overwhelming evidence being
presented to him, Wilkinson did plead

now to murder and to perverting the
course of justice.

Wilkinson was ultimately sentenced to
life imprisonment with a minimum term of

19 years and three months before he
would be eligible for parole.

And I think we have to accept that at
the age of 65, as he was when sentenced,

this effectively amounts to a whole life
order for him. I think it's unlikely

that he will ever be released from
prison. I think he would die behind

I don't think this was premeditated, and
neither did the judge in sentencing.

And that would have been reflected in
the sentencing.

I think it was clear that there was an
intention to kill on Wilkinson's part,

but I don't think he had made plans to
kill him that day. I think this is

something that happened in a fit of
rage.

He grabbed the nearest implement, which
just so happened to be a rather crude,

broken wooden stick with a heavy metal
bung, and before he knew what he'd done,

he'd hit Eddie around the head ten
times.

I think when we look at the sentencing
of William Wilkinson, I think it's fair.

I think this is a near 20 -year minimum
term. This man is 65 years of age.

And I think the judge has to take that
into account upon sentencing.

It is likely that he will die behind
bars. This is tantamount to a whole

order. And I think had Wilkinson been
younger and he'd committed this crime,

would have seen a more lengthy sentence.

Eddie's loved ones make it known their
feelings toward Wilkinson at the end of

the sentencing.

Some of Eddie's family came to court on
the day of sentence and sat in the front

row of the public gallery.

It was obviously very upsetting hearing
for them to hear everything that had

happened to this sweet member of the
family.

And they sat...

listened through it all. It was a brave
thing for them to do.

Mostly they held on to their composure
but then when Wilkinson was led away to

begin his sentence they were shouting
animal at him which really sums up how

they felt.

Eddie's family were disgusted at the
actions of Wilkinson.

They have been unable to sleep since.

They've suffered nightmares especially
when they found out what actions were

taken after Eddie was murdered.

and he was dismembered. It's caused the
family great distress, probably distress

that they'll never recover from.

The nature of Eddie Forrester's murder
and the later dismemberment of his body

dehumanised him to his family, and they
later remarked on that in a statement.

It was difficult for them to properly
lay him to rest when all of his remains

were not there.

The details of this case reveal
Wilkinson to be a cold individual

extreme and savage violence.

Despite admitting to murder, Wilkinson
didn't help the police. He refused to

identify other locations where parts of
the body might be and he did not provide

any information that might help the
family grieve their loved one.

This suggests someone who's callous,
wants to maintain control and doesn't

to address the gruesome things that
they've done.

I think what we're potentially looking
at with somebody like Wilkinson is a

psychopath. This is a man who is easily
able to detach from what he's doing and

what he's done and to not feel.

the consequences of that and i think
that's evident from what he does with

later dismemberment and some of that was
gratuitous it was not for the purposes

of disposing of the body it was done for
gratuitous reasons he removed the heart

we don't know what the motivation was
for that but there was no need for him

do that so there was a reason an
instinct within him that compelled him

that So I think we are looking at an
animal. I think when Eddie Forrester's

family shouted animal at Wilkinson on
his sentencing, I think they'd hit the

nail on the head.

He has got to the age of 65 and all of a
sudden he has woken up one day and

killed a man in the most brutal
circumstances.

And I think that's something I struggle
to reconcile. I struggle to understand

what... happened what switching him
flicked on that particular day what made

him see red and attack and unleash his
rage

I've been involved in many cases where

dismembering has taken place and it
takes a certain mindset to get over the

that you're now dealing with a human
being and then think about, you know,

you're going to cut them, how you're
going to cut them. It's very strange to

think about, very horrific.

Almost sadistic, in a way, to be able to
do something like that. So, yeah, it's

horrible.

The thing that really stood out to me
about this case was the gratuitous

violence, the level of violence, the way
that...

Wilkinson coldly went about doing what
he did, and yet the only

thing that really seems to have been an
issue, the only kind of motive, is this

little squabble about feeding the birds.
It's shocking.

I think Wilkinson can be best described
as wholly...

This is a man who refused to cooperate
with the police.

He held the key to the location of
Eddie's remains and he refused to give

tiny bit back to the family to allow
them to bury Eddie as one whole so that

could rest in peace.

This is a cold, detached man who doesn't
think of others.

The horrifying details of this case...
leaves a lasting sense of fear and

in the community.

Whilst Blackpool has a higher than
average crime rate, this is not a town

is synonymous with murder. This is a
quintessentially English seaside

destination. This is a tourist town.

This kind of thing doesn't really happen
there.

So the residents of Blackpool were
shocked.

at what had happened and they were left
in a state of disbelief that this

vulnerable quiet man he was small in
stature he was five feet five inches

he had mobility issues he would be seen
out and about with his beloved rescue

in the most brutal circumstances it was

was somewhere I used to go on holiday
every year with my family and what

me particularly about this case,
especially a location that was a happy

go for me and my family, was the level
of depravity that was involved in this,

especially the length that Wilkinson
went to following the murder.

The dismemberment he carried out, the
dissection he carried out, with no clear

reason whatsoever.

And the length that he went to to
dispose of Eddie's remains and cover his

tracks.

Especially in a town like Blackpool
that's known for family fun. It's known

tourist attraction, a really lively
tourist attraction.

It was a great place to go a number of
years ago. I used to go all the time

my family.

Every October for the illuminations.

for that to happen in that particular
area is a very dark spell for Blackpool

Eddie's best friend Trevor would take in
his beloved

dog Cathy after his death both having
tragically lost their closest companion

I can't imagine how this would have felt
for Trevor Lake. He had been friends

with Eddie Forrester for 22 years.

The two were extremely close. They saw
each other every other day and they

on the phone every single day. They
relied upon each other. They were each

other's family and support network.

So I can only imagine the loss for
Trevor Lake of not having Eddie in his

And I know that Trevor took Eddie's
beloved.

dog Cassie in and now looks after her
and Trevor has

since said that without her he's not
sure he would have been able to cope in

aftermath as much as he has been able
to.
