from California University, Bette Porter.

she rocked the art world in the mid-'90s
with her massive steel sculptures

of female body parts
and domestic objects,

Jodi Lerner has redefined
the landscape of sculptural expression.

And it's not just that she's a woman,
though she undeniably is.

Jodi makes art with found
industrial materials in a way that no one,

man or woman,
ever even thought of doing.

I am repeatedly in awe of her
fearless choices,

her total immersion in her process,

her audacity, which borders on defiance,

and her works of art which actually seem
to extrude from her subconscious mind.

She has made me believe, all over again,
in the redemptive power of art.

It's been a gift and a privilege to ha ve her
as our artist-in-residence at CU.

And an even greater gift,
ha ving her in m y life.
