she's rearing her head.

Out of nowhere, it was
mine 30 minutes ago.

We got some waves
crashing over the bow here.

That'll build throughout the day.

It only gets worse over
the next three hours.

And force the miners off the water.

So, for each captain, the question is,

how close to the edge

I will consistently take this boat out

and try to work when the conditions are.

the summer mining season,

as warm weather currents
from the pacific ocean

mix with the cold Bering sea.

And those rough weather
conditions can come on

at any time and last for any length.

So today, the fleet is hoping
for a window of opportunity

before mother nature
has her way with them.

We're in damn Bering sea.

The weather's very changeable
and can get violent up here

in a hurry.

So now I'm going
down here to take a look,

see what the conditions are.

I've got divers going deeper than ever.

They got good air.

And it's thanks to my nitrox dive system.

It pumps additional oxygen
to the divers so they're able

to stay down deeper for longer.

But with this weather coming in,

I got to make sure it's safe to send
my divers down at these depths.

I see a few whitecaps, but not many.

It's not bad.

I think I'm going to set
my plans for going out.

That's the game plan.

Opportunities are limited,
so it's time to make hay.

Time to get after it.

There's gold out there
calling my name right now.

so I need two dives
today to stay on track.

so I hope mother nature

at these gold-rich coordinates.

But now, whoever arrives
first can stake their spot

until the storm front reaches nome.

Yeah, the sky's the limit as far
as what this cut's gonna produce.

Rough seas may not be a concern,

but with plans to go deep on land,

setbacks from mother nature.

The wash plant eats the pay dirt up.

And if we can keep feeding the beast,

But it's going to be a tall order.

When rain hits the inland mine,

ground becomes a giant mud pit,

making the material
impossible to move or pile up,

slowing or stopping the
opening of the new cut.

And so, with his largest crew ever

assembled and every
penny on the line hunting

for nome's original golden grounds,

any downtime will be catastrophic.

We should have more
pay dirt uncovered by now,

but I don't.

Stressful? A little bit.

We started tapping into this base streak

80 feet down a month ago.

It's already bringing in huge numbers.

first cut's going through

the wash plant, but it's
not going to last long.

We have to pull in 250
ounces a week to keep

this massive operation running.

getting overburdened down.

We got to go another 40 or 50 feet.

But you don't know
until you get it uncovered.

You only got an idea
where the pay dirt's at.

I gambled big, using
the drill log information

and my gold mining gut.

I believe the pay from the
original gold rush goes east.

But it's gonna take at least
seven or eight days to get down

80 feet to figure out if I'm right or wrong.

To get the most out of the
remaining mine able hours,

Zeke tenhoff is implementing
a new plan of action.

We have a short little
window to go mining.

It's basically just like last night and today.

They were able to get the
boat anchored up last night

and they got a few hours of diving in.

This time of the year,
it's like you just gotta

get out for these short little stretches.

Even if it's like one or two dives,

that's the only way we're
gonna be able to get our hours in.

The plan for this season is simple.

We're going to run two teams all day,

one at morning and one in the night.

And because we're going
so much deeper this season,

each diver can only
dive for three hours Max.

Today is when we launch that strategy.

But mother nature has to cooperate.

If we don't get the ounces that
we need, I'm going to lose the boat.

So how did last night go for you?

Last night went well.

We just got right down on the old cut.

And yeah, you should just
be able to pop right down.
