now they were one of Iraq's greatest and

most influential bands now for the first

time in 19 years Led Zeppelin will be

back on stage this evening the band

members have reunited for a one-off gig

at the O2 Arena in London hundreds of

fans already there and our Arts

correspondent Razia Iqbal is with them

yes George it's just a few hours to wait

before Led Zeppelin take to the stage

forget all the other musical reunions

we've seen this year this is the big

league Led Zeppelin are often described

as the first the biggest and the best

that's if the fans are to be believed

more than a million applied for tickets

20 000 were successful among them are

those who've seen them decades ago

others are too young but as Keen it's

not 1977 it's never going to be 1977.

I'm an awful lot slower than I was 30

years ago so if they are they're well

forgiven

well I mean if I get through it without

a Zoomer frame they're doing all right

no no they're cool they're cool they're

old but they're cool

one man who's followed them from the

beginning has also met his Heroes

they're not old men trying to plant

teenagers they're you know they've got

such musicianship chemistry all that

chemistry that was there in the band all

those years ago it's still going to be

there tonight

this isn't merely a tribute concert or

even just for the Die Hard fans it's

making rock and roll history and

everyone wants to be a part of it

and big names in the world of rock are

expected tonight

um and it's that's really a testament to

how influential Led Zeppelin have been

and a testament to how loyal their fans

are to them that's you all right all

right Monday December 10 2007. I had a

case of the Mondays and at the same time

I daydreamed of being at the old tour in

London to witness the historic show with

no Instagram nor YouTube live streams

back then I could only imagine and wait

for somebody to take the show I told my

co-workers about it they smiled and

replied so how was your weekend I

couldn't care less my favorite band was

reuniting this was the best Christmas

gift ever read the next day reactions

and music forums felt like old-time

telegrams and mail people sharing their

thoughts nobody could believe the band

played for your life for the very first

time and yet I had no audio of it how I

treasure the days in which everything

was not on your fingertips the Mystique

of silence and patience A zeppelin Fan's

right of passage months later I got my

hands on a bootlet recording and it

sounded great despite some minor issues

like the base frequencies being kind of

lost at the arena and the songs being

downtuned to fit plan's vocal range I

played that thing a thousand times and

enjoyed every minute of it this was the

live in 1985 in Atlantic 1988 of my

generation but I had no visuals yet I

was excited and for a second I thought

they were going to tour and I was making

plans to go see them and so was the

entire Legion of the Zeppelin fans

the O2 Arena show began with the band

featuring Keith Emerson Chris Squire

Alan white and Simon Kirk with the best

section from Bill Wyman's Rhythm kings

that it was up to the living Kings

featuring Maggie Bell and Alvin Lee Paul

Rogers Paolo Nutini and Mae Jones from

Foreigner to get things going

the gentleman that you whom by now

you've all have heard of called armor

and his brother founded

a company called event

um

Atlantic Records turn s not only

signing the best of American rhythm and

blues but also the best of the best of

the British Acts and tonight we've got

quite a selection for you all the money

those tickets after the basic costs are

going to pay for three lifetime

scholarships one in America

one in Turkey in the hotel

of Ahmed and one here in one of the

colleges of Oxford University and those

scholarships will run every year for

every

student

in addition

for money to start a course and pay for

five scholarships at Ravens born

University which is actually being built

right outside this Dome so when we've

got everything together in about 18

months time at University will be open

outside the Dome and we'll have now a

music scholarship courtesy of you guys

okay so let's go over the show for

storyline and accurate timeline purposes

I will use the recordings we had before

the official release the set list seems

to be inspired by Led Zeppelin's March

27 1975 show at the Forum 11 or 15 songs

played that night were repeated on the

2007 reunion an interesting choice

indeed as a 1975 tour doesn't get

praised like 1977 or 1973 within the

Zeppelin Community we can speculate on

the visual and marketing significance of

1975 as the Pinnacle of their career

just before a series of accidents and

tragic events happened Physical Graffiti

remains one of the most popular albums

it's critical and Commercial Acclaim

make it a centerpiece of 70s rock with

cashmere a Monumental achievement after

the impossible task of coming up with

material after a Stairway to Heaven and

the Rain song every Led Zeppelin album

was represented on the 2007 setlist

except in through the outdoor that still

hurts after all these years while they

didn't choose a song from the last

studio album Still puzzles me Jason

Bonham stated that he suggested the idea

of an acoustic set for the reunion it

was briefly rehearsed with songs like

going to California and tangerine the

reasons why it was discarded aren't

clear although maybe what page and plan

didn't want to say was sorry we already

did that for years without your Jonesy

no hard feelings right every Zeppelin

fan has a list of songs they wish the

band perform at the reunion I would like

to know your opinion on this so please

share your list of songs on the comments

if you ask me well of course I wanted

carusalem brand there but being a bit

more realistic I only have two songs

first swapping Dazed and Confused for

the 1979 version of in the evening

featuring Jimmy's violin bow solo as

intro I'm crazy right well looking at

the small accident that happened in

decent confused 2007 there was a reason

the track was retired from the Dublin

set after 1975 when Jimmy was 31. by

then they really stretched the song as

far as they could and because Jimmy

wasn't an active performer in 2007 like

the great Jeff Beck was until his

untimely passing in early 2023 Jason

confuses a challenging song that demands

the working conditions of Youth to

maximize its power because Paige needed

a vehicle for his violin bow Solo in the

evening 1979 gave him that and more with

the band able to cover at least one of

the tracks for men through the outdoor

the song could have been performed on a

lower key as further Evidence the fact

that Paige and plan played this song

plus a middle portion of cursed lambra

on their 1995 to 1998 Taurus shows it

worked next the Rain song why on Earth

didn't they play this after The Song

Remains the Same one of the best life

moments in their career those

1972-1975 versions were these two songs

coexisted as a progressive rock

Adventure the world deserved a pose 1980

version of distract with John Paul Jones

on keyboards the track could have been

played on the sixth string neck in the

key of G instead of the usual live a

tuning plan had the voice for it and

Jason played this in the mid 90s with

his own band the band's concert fixation

and Misty Mountain Hop is strange to

this day it didn't stand out on the 1988

reunion and here it just works as a sort

of transition for Kashmir imagine had

they played the Rain song before epic

would be an understatement but one can

dream right

John Paul Jones and he's their bass

player Jimmy Page he's the lead

guitarist Robert Plant lead singer he

won the long curly hair and John Fine is

the drummer Robert

anywhere nearby that's the sort of thing

you saw and

hurt

the band comes in with an aggressive

punch and the attitude of 1969. holding

on prisoners they go all in out of a

couple of feedback issues in the first

verses the group is tight so tight it's

scary Jason Bonham sings Harmony

alongside planned for a closer rendition

to the studio version white-haired Jimmy

comes on the stage wearing dark glasses

with zeppen for the first time since the

1977 tour and a code reminiscent of bath

1970. he kind of looks like prague's own

Eddie jobson his rhythm work is Stellar

the way he comes back from the guitar

solo to the chorus is incredible

Johnson delivers his famous base licks

to great effect and Jason kicks the

living hell out of his drums and

Zeppelin never performed the track

entirely but use the intro on seven

shows from 1969 including the parents

concert released on the deluxe edition

of Led Zeppelin 1 as a side note Robert

Plant and Jimmy Page performed this song

once during their 1995 tour

they jump straight into Ramble On

technically speaking our first time for

Jones were not for the others page and

plan played the song a total of 153

times under 1995 to 1988 tours Jason

Barton played it on his 1997 album in

the name of my father the long band

mates Jazz Western vocals Tony Catanio

on guitar and John Smith's son and bass

plan is great here like a gypsy

searching for his Muse The Traveling

Blues Vibe is present while the chorus

is a bit demanding on his voice the band

manages to keep it under control the

light and shade contrast is superb Jimmy

plays a great solo despite no rhythm

guitar behind him it works wonders and

he controls the Distortion well well a

very nice rendition of the song it does

need the acoustic element on the verses

I can see while it's Apple never did the

song back in their Heyday other than a

small reference during the horror Love

Medley as it is a bad repetitive the

ending features a small reference to the

closing riff of what is and what should

never be

takes off his Shades the 10 point

between the verses is kept with great

swing and plan delivers a solid vocal

performance in the Downton key of G his

voice manages to keep its strength while

entertaining the crowd that sings along

with him guitar and drum and bass are

locked in this version is similar in

energy and force to the final concert

runs of 1980. human delivers a great

solo with some 1973 moments here and

there while he battles with the extra

vibrant strings of the low tuning as a

guitarist myself I cannot stress this

enough soloing or no tuning strings is

hard Jimmy Page worked out a miracle

one of the outstanding tracks from the

concert top to bottom a fantastic

rendition of a song that Zeppelin played

for the last time on June 25th 1977 at

the Le Forum Jimmy Page played this on

his 1988 solo tour while Robert Plant

did three live Renditions in 1983 it had

to be revived for the show

the first bar on the drum entrance but

managed to get back into the song he

really enjoys playing this riff Urban

starts off quiet but slowly delivers a

passionate take on this classic jumper

Jones's base is a bit low on the mix but

he delivers a fantastic performance

Jason Bonham is very much focused

throughout the song his heavy accents

and groove are Dynamite rubber bands on

my Jesus moment steals the show within

the song and the band comes back in like

a massive wave

following up

for thousands and thousands of emotions

that we've been going through for the

last six weeks together

and finally get to this point

for almond to bring Jason in

this one we've uh this is a first

adventure with this song

in public

in my humble opinion the third best

track from the show never played before

by Led Zeppelin and no other live

reference but this one and what a treat

where the original presence recording

has a somewhat disjointed friendly

Stratocaster and base frequencies this

version brings much Gibson humbucker

pickup Justice to the Exquisite G chord

opening and interplay A Brave and Bold

move by the band if any casual fans went

to the show this was the ultimate filter

to ask what song is this again this is a

track that stands out from the set list

like glowing 9 the luxury of playing a b

side was a dream come true for hardcore

fans the level of confidence shown by

the ban on stage is up there with the

70s Jimmy's rhythm guitar Shines on his

Gibson Black Beauty custom a very

special six-string weapon that made up

for the original black beauty that was

stolen in 1970. the guitar was returned

to him in 2015. Back to the song Stand

Up moments that do it when you won a

line against the group is magnificent a

master class of tempo and feel

bombs the song may be a strange setlist

choice but it sheds light on the

what-ifs of presence that the band chose

to play more cuts from the album under

1977 tour

1935 Robert Johnson

recorded a song called airplane blues

and uh

it's appeared in a thousand

different guises since

when maybe Johnson's going from

somewhere else I'm sure he did everybody

likes it this is the kind of

the Led Zeppelin Terror playing Blues

it's called trampled on the foot

a song Led Zeppelin played on every show

from 1975 till their final date on July

7th 1980. one of the Cornerstone tracks

that has to be there her plan featured

this song on his 1988 and 1983 tours

while John Paul Jones performed this on

his tours from 1999 and the year 2000.

fun fact Jason Bonham plays this song on

drums during the net worth 1979

soundcheck a solid Groove that

hypnotizes the audience in a trance of G

minor in the most respectful way

possible I have to say this is Led

Zeppelin and autopilot and one of those

moments for them to enjoy the show

taking off some pressure in the insane

levels of stress of other numbers on the

set everybody's in top form with Jonesy

commanding their way and the cabinet

sounds while Jimmy strikes the whammy

pedal playing with the octaves

Alabama

I think we must have heard this from

we were in a church somewhere in

Mississippi

in about 1932

the band played this with a low tuning

of D with rubber band using a harmonica

in the key of G instead of a Jim's

guitar playing strikes like thunder with

Stoner metal Vibes to it the group plays

with absolute aggression the stops and

fills are played with discipline

previous live versions of the song were

a showcased for the tasty crunchiness of

the strings and this is now let down

sounding like a metal and darker take on

this Blues Anthem Robert's harmonica

solo features a slight variation on the

backing rhythm with an extended D5 chord

the second best track from the show

playing the original live key of D Minor

the John Paul Jones Institute of

progressive rock and Sonic Explorations

take Center Stage his delicate touch

through the modern day keywords take

this composition to the highest places

in space it's a Redemption Song after

page and plan used the title for their

1994 album jumble Jones shows the world

what they were missing his craftsmanship

and wisdom reclaimed the song back to

his quarters Led Zeppelin stopped

playing this after 1977 a rock and roll

favorite through the years it

transformed the O2 Arena into the

Psychedelic playground away from the

scripts and possibly calculated moments

of the show while Jimmy solo is nowhere

near his 1973 Renditions it's filled

with appropriate textures and technique

to honor the past with Grace

Zeppelin played 297 times before page

delivers a combination of late 70s chops

of the highest emotional delivery as he

reached the end of the opening section

Jimmy crushes it with just one note

Robert delivers elegant phrasing in his

prepared choice of intentions Jason's

heavy drumming is a pulsating force with

Jones holding the pieces together with

tasteful keyboard Parts Jimmy Spain solo

is filled with spaces between the nodes

and recollection of his favorite licks

which is refreshing it doesn't sound

like senseless shredding but a reminder

of why he's a part of rock royalty this

one wipes off the floor of the 1984 and

plug show version and many times more

exciting than their 1979 and 1980 shows

together but to think about creating a

dynamic evening

choosing something from 10 different

albums

um there were certain songs

and uh

and this is one of them

giving this song A go was like walking a

very tight rope you can see planets

excited to play this again Jason is

having fun and channeling all the live

versions he knows by heart now on to

Jimmy's violin bow segment with the

guitar tuning once the blower playing

the violin bow is a nightmare of trying

to control vibration Distortion feedback

passive section they go into the guitar

solo and then a funny and tragic

accident happens Jimmy makes a signal to

Jason to shift gears going into the Eda

EG chord section which Paige and Jones

only played twice

thought they would play that part like

the Japan used to do this is why he was

thrown off when Jimmy came in too early

with the B5 riff

because Pages less time performing the

song was in 2002 I think his memory got

mixed up and he went back to that

version of the track check it out

Jason what I'm trying to fix it as best

as he could stopping and counting it

again I can't imagine the stress he went

through at this point it seems like the

ghost of live 8 1985 came back but at

least Jason knew how to fix it from his

Led Zeppelin studies unlike the other

two drummers that day the sun wasn't

ruined but it showed what the nature of

Dazed and Confused was in the Zeppelin

70s Peak Anything could happen at least

they reminded everybody that this was a

live show and they were human after all

other than a brief Japanese TV

appearance in 1994 third plan I hadn't

played this song on stage since the

Atlantic 1980 reunion that's 19 years of

hating the track and letting the world

know about it Jimmy Page played this for

the last time on November 26 1988 during

his outrider solo tour series of heaven

was played one step down in the key of G

minor which again makes it a dreaded

task on the double Nick without having

to push his voice to an extreme bird

plan seems to enjoy this one last time

but abstained himself from the does

anybody remember laughter ad-lib plant's

performance while a great walk down

memory lane its version of a man he can

no longer be the distance it took from

it makes sense and dignifies its Legacy

instead of milking it to death like many

of his peers do with their hit songs

Jones's keyboard parts are noticeable

and provide a solid backbone Jimmy solo

has one weird opening note but other

than that it plays out well Jason

strumming elevates the song's momentum

okay this is a weird place in the set

list for the song and for the record is

one of my top 10 maybe top five Zeppelin

songs ever following the teachings of

1973-1975 this had to come in before

stairway as the effect does not remain

the same because of the down tuning to

see the tractors is definition and it

sounds muddy out of the four guys up

there Jason played the most recent take

on the song in 1997 on his Zeppelin

tribute album page plan and Jones had

not performed the song since August 11

1979 at net worth while plant does his

best to deliver a memorable performance

the harmonic muddiness of the Rhythm

tracks is hard to let go even the drums

sound lost in the mix for some reason

despite Jason's hardest hitting feels

not sure why they picked us over a cute

is less than but there you have it

I can't even remember how long as I was

but the chase was like there's a pig

his mom his dad

is the same

they were the best Jimi Hendrix

impersonators in the whole

Worcestershire and

Pat's got a great voice

I remember John used to be in a man from

the women Cries Mary about 400 times a

night

that was how it was and Jason's pretty

cool singer too

um so I could feature Jason on vocals

again

how Jason sings on his own

I don't have much to say about this song

other than a Japanese studio version

remains my favorite take this one is

better than the Atlantic 1988 version as

we can actually hear jumble Jones's

keywords but man is the band obsessed

with this song

fun fact Devo's uncontrollable urge is

just a faster version of the song

the best song from a reunion putting the

1988 and 1998 Puff Daddy versions to

shame note the 1984 take was great and

the Egyptian Orchestra finale was sick

so it's not fair to compare this one to

say Cash 3 2007 stole the show is an

understatement it had the right Groove

the right keyboards plus a Kidder active

synth bass sound Jimmy ditched at an

electron went back to the Les Paul which

made the 1975 version so good Robert

sang his heart out he gave everything he

had and more Jason Bonham what can we

say about his heroic drumming he made

his dad proud very proud the band's

passion and performance Rivals those of

70s Led Zeppelin this topic has been

discussed for years in online forums and

it has to be said while the best Kashmir

version has to feature Joe Monument

drums the sun expect from an

architecture of 2007 managed to recreate

the songs 3D element like the 70s

couldn't out of limited technological

resources Jason Bonham's drumming here

is up there next to his father

fun fact the visual backdrop around the

six minute Mark shows the shape of the

object from presence I find it hilarious

as cashmere belongs to Physical Graffiti

we can think of the animation designer

not being that much of a fan but it's

still that no one else saw this before

the final approval was given the ending

is incredible rock and roll reunion

history was made I believe at this very

moment both Amit ertigan and John Bonham

smile from above a Led Zeppelin

catharsis of tragedy and fate clashing

with the power of stardom success and

forgiveness one of the band's most epic

moments captured in film was now forever

after Kashmir the band comes in for two

encores in the style of 1980 happier

than ever the worst was over in terms of

stress they could just have fun and be

thankful to the power of now they

deliver strong performances it's a walk

in the park at this point it's Led

Zeppelin the winter thing excitement and

meaning screaming from the crowd reminds

us the classics never grow old a

thrilling and vibrant Celebration Day

coming to an end and the world was

watching
