Terrorized my entire family.

It has gripped my sister,

My childhood best friend, and me ever since.

So I had an idea -- a psychological experiment...

First we need to overcome our fear.

I'm leading us on a road trip to explore

The most haunted, abandoned locations

In all of america.

Each night, we'll separate and sleep alone.

The catch is, I'm the only one who knows where we're going.

Honestly, I'm a little nervous.

So, here's the situation.

I have no idea where I'm going.

Chelsea has no idea where she's going.

Dakota is the only one who has any information

On the locations.

You know, without giving anything away,

Like, can you tell me, like, the direction?

Without giving anything away, I'm not gonna say anything.

Me and dakota are gonna meet chelsea in tennessee,

And that's all I know, and then we go from there.

So, we're' going to a very massive, abandoned prison

Right here in tennessee.

The building is in full decay.

It's over 100 years old.

This is where people were tortured, beaten, murdered.

Housed some of the meanest, most evil people in america.

I can't wait. This is gonna be crazy.

I love dakota because I have to love dakota.

He's my brother.

I literally was at the hospital the day he was born.

I have that memory in my head,

Going to the hospital to see baby dakota.

Alright, so, I'm gonna knock on chelsea's door right now,

Wake her up, and tell her to come outside to see the rv.

Alex is gonna be filming us, like, the whole trip.

Till I'm even gonna tell you where we're going.

Brushy mountain state penitentiary.

Is known as the alcatraz of the south,

And it has a tortured and horrifying history.

During its 113 years in operation,

It housed the worst offenders imaginable --

Those imprisoned for murder

And the most horrific of violent crimes."

There are so many people who can testify

For just how brutal and scary this place is.

Brushy mountain state prison is known as the end of the line.

They've compared us to siberian prison camps here.

Cruelty.

Cruelty.

What I witnessed through these walls

Was murder, rape, assault.

Being here as a prisoner was a living nightmare.

[ insects chirping ]

If the walls did not keep you in here,

The mountains will.

Chelsea: "an impenetrable fortress,

The prison is nearly encircled by rugged, wooded mountains.

The only prison in the us with only three walls,

The fourth being a massive cliff."

"there is only one road in and out."

As you drive up to the prison,

You'll notice that the prison is the shape of a cross.

It's an upside-down cross.

They built it in the shape of an upside-down cross

To send a message to the inmates that they were unworthy.

This was a very violent place.

Prisoners were beaten pretty much on a daily basis

For the smallest of things.

Dakota: This was not a good place to be.

If you were an inmate, you were basically tortured

And treated like an animal.

White: They would whip them out in the yard.

The older townspeople said

That they could hear the screams of the inmates

Coming from behind the walls of the prison

When they would be beaten.

[ men screaming, strap cracks ]

Several were murdered by the guards.

They would just shoot them and leave them laying.

Oftentimes, they wouldn't even bury them.

They would just leave them where they were.

So even though there weren't no sanctioned executions,

They were executed here.

You can make out a shape of a head and shoulders,

But it's almost kind of like he slithers or crawls on his belly.

The auditorium is something else.

It's evil.

We have to go in it.

Brock: In the auditorium, they would show movies,

So there would be seats.

It was dark.

It was just a perfect opportunity.

If someone wanted to cut your throat, they'd cut your throat.

This is a really dark, dark location.

Because it gets a lot worse.

The place that I will not go on the grounds

Is in d-block on the second floor.

The first time that I went on the second floor of d-block,

I was scratched and brought blood to my arm,

And I refuse to go back there now.

Harvey: One thing about d-block --

That was where death row was housed.

I got chills going in there.

It's just... It's freaky.

Four of my best friends were stabbed over there.

Brock: They used to hang them by their thumbs there

As a form of punishment.

They were given two five-gallon buckets.

One had water, the other was to use the bathroom in.

The hole has no sunlight, and if they were here

For many days, weeks, months, as some were,

They did lose their sight.

This long road trip we're about to be on?

Like, this is just one of the many, many days.

One thing I'm nervous about is

How dark some of these places could be.

The thing about these experiences is,

Everyone handles it differently.

So when one person might have an okay night,

Someone might have a really bad night,

So it's like we have to, like,

Be aware of each other too, right?

I mean, this isn't about who finishes first,

It's all about crossing the line together.

Some of these places are evil, are straight-up evil.

So we just gotta really, really have each other's backs.

You just have to be mentally strong.

You can't allow it to take over your body.

But it's open, so you can hear every single person.

Imagine how much noise all the time.

The darkest spirits haunt.

We've heard a couple things that have scared the crap out of us.

And we've all been accounted for.

Those are the shackles right there,

'cause they would restrain them

'cause they were in so much pain.

In all of the country, and it's raining outside.

People spent a large chunk of their life till death in here.

That, to me, seemed like one of the more active rooms.
