- Bo! - Oh! Sorry.

So what are you StoryBots doing here anyways?

We're trying to find out why people look different.

Ooh! Uh, that's a great question. Let me show you.

It's a bit complicated, StoryBots,

but the best place to start is by looking at the mom and dad.

Oh, look, smoochy-pooch,

she's got your beautiful curls!

Oh, snuggle-muffin,

and your sweet little button nose.

- Ooh! Coochie-cooch-cooch! - I could just kiss your face all day long.

Bleeech!

You see, StoryBots, the way a person looks

Oh, yeah. Red and blue make purple.

I know.

You're the cutest baby in the whole wide world!

Oh! You're the cutest baby in the whole wide galaxy!

Ahhh...

you're the cutest baby in the whole wide universe!

So, Mr. Bernard, how do babies actually

get their looks from their parents?

Parents pass down their looks through DNA.

You get half from your mom, and half from your dad.

DNA? What's that?

Ah. It's deoxyribonucleic acid, silly.

Whoa.

Deoxyribonucleic acid.

I don't think I can even say deoxyribonucleic acid.

Boop?

So what does this DNA stuff actually do, Mr. Bernard?

Well, it's the instructions to make all the parts of your body.

Kind of like a manual... for building you.

Hey! That sounds like it'll help us answer Coco and Lennon's question!

Yeah, man! We totally need to get that instruction manual.

Well, then it's a good thing you can find DNA

We know why people look different!

Humans are made up of trillions of these tiny little things called cells.

Yeah, and inside most cells

are 46 of these even smaller things called chromosomes!

When you zoom in real close, you can see that

they're actually spiral ladders called DNA.

And everyone's DNA is a little bit different.

Sections of the DNA are called genes,

and they hold the instructions for building all the parts of the body.

The instructions are written using different patterns of only four letters!

A's, T's, G's, and C's.

They're called nucleotides, man.

These things called ribosomes read the nucleotides to make proteins!

And proteins go on to form hair, eyes, skin, and everything else.

And because no two people have the same DNA...

...that's why people look different!
