=Episode 17=

Gu Chusheng's pursuers

must have arrived nearby.

You ride and leave first,

leaving marks along the way

so Chu Yu can find us.

Also,

take my horse

and lead away some of them.

I still can't figure out

how you found me.

I've erased all the traces

along the way

and only left marks

for Chu...

She even told you this?

(Wood) You mean that wood?

I have nothing to hide from Yu,

so she treats me with honesty.

You should be grateful

that she told me,

or you'd really die here today.

You're so good at taking credit.

What I should be grateful for

is that Chu Yu still remembers this code.

The ones

I should thank most

are the tacit understanding

between her and me.

Why isn't she here?

There's something more important

than saving you.

More important than...?

Has Yao Yong started a rebellion?

Wei Yun,

how could you let her face danger alone?

If there's no foolproof plan,

I'd never leave her in Huajing.

Gu Chusheng,

if you can think one step ahead,

I can think five.

Now, you don't even pretend

in front of me anymore, do you?

You should worry more about yourself.

Our current situation

is not safe.

Where are you going?

You're really generous.

It's just material things.

How's it outside?

They've learned their lesson.

They sent in four,

and I deliberately let one escape

to send a message.

Why are you so sure

that these decoys

can fool those people outside?

Your place is not that big,

yet they sent in two teams,

one after another, to investigate.

It shows the leader is extremely alert,

but overly cautious,

which will make him hesitate.

So, I left one person

to send a message,

hoping he would exaggerate.

That'd be our chance.

It's been the Zi hour,

but Yao Yong hasn't shown up.

Did he sense something was wrong

and change the location?

Yao Jue has broken free;

Yao Yong will surely notice,

but there are few feasible routes in Dingfeng Valley,

mostly in the low-lying valley bottom,

which are easily ambushed.

For safety,

he has only this one route to take.

Someone's coming.

Hurry.

- Mother. - Don't run.

There are vagrants.

Stop.

Don't run.

It's Yao Yong's men.

Stop.

- Hurry. - Ms. Chu.

These commoners

might not be a coincidence.

How about this?

I'll take a team

and go to the back mountain

to form a pincer movement

so as not to reveal our position.

Charge!

Okay.

Let's go.

This is my first time on the battlefield.

Though it's not a very big one,

I'm still a divine soldier.

Don't forget our purpose today.

Stay alert.

Okay.

Form up and protect the commoners!

Yes!

Ms. Chu, you've kept your word.

I let my cousin spread the news

to lure you here.

There are also the Duke of Hu's sons.

What a pleasant surprise.

Where's Wei Yun?

He doesn't need to come here.

To deal with you,

I'm enough on my own.

Ms. Chu,

don't be too confident.

You're outnumbered.

Today, you have no way

to escape Dingfeng Valley.

I'll first send you to reunite

with Chu Jianchang and his daughter.

Then I'll have a go at Wei Yun.

Yao Yong,

you colluded with North Qi.

The 30,000 Chu troops in Fengling City

and the 70,000 Wei troops in Baidi Valley

all perished because of you.

Today,

even if I die here,

I won't let you destroy the peace of Great Sui.

Is that so?

Then let's see

if you have the luck

to live to that day.

Kill!

General Yao instructed us before he left.

They first lured Wei Yun and the others

out of Huajing City.

He ordered us to go and support them

so as to launch a pincer attack

and give them a hand.

Yes.

(Yao Mansion)

- Who are you? - Jiang Chun

from the Marquis of Zhenguo's family.

Zhang Han

from the Marquis of Zhenguo's family.

Just you two?

And us as well.

How come you're here?

You mean Yao Yong

keeps many private soldiers

in the mansion?

There aren't many family members there.

Even with the soldiers

and the servants,

it's only over 30 people.

But lately, they've had to purchase

30 to 50 dan of rice and flour

every few days.

It seems there are

over 100 people hidden there.

The weapons

I found in his study

must be for these people.

No wonder Yao Yong is so arrogant.

He's been lying low in Huajing

for so many years.

How well he's been hiding.

But we don't have many troops,

and it's hard to fight on two fronts.

Leave this to us.

You've received the divorce paper.

Why side with outsiders

against your own cousin?

If General Yao is punished,

you'll be implicated, too.

Don't bring trouble upon yourself.

I can be

a lady of the Yao family

and the wife of Wei Feng,

but I will never be

an accomplice to my enemies.

Don't waste words with him.

They killed my husband.

They deserve to die.

Charge!

Kill!

With me here,

do you still think you can escape?

Charge out together!

I'm an old man;

Still, I can fight

with young people like you.

Kill!

Song Shilan,

you even brought reinforcements.

Let me see

who will have the last laugh.

Today,

thank you for your help.

On behalf of my family

and Yun,

I thank you.

Ms. Jiang, my pleasure.

Take him away.

This trick won't last over four hours.

There will be a tough battle.

I may not be able to take care of you.

Can you hold

onto that dagger?

This bamboo tube contains

the evidence of Yao Yong's collusion

with North Qi,

proving his crime

of treason.

No wonder he wants to kill you.

It's not the time for you

to make your last will yet.

Since I promised Chu Yu

to save you,

I will never go back on my word.

In your eyes,

I'm just a man

who abandoned Chu Yu for power.

My life is probably

not as important

to you as this bamboo tube.

Your life doesn't matter,

but my promise to Chu Yu

matters greatly.

Have you already fallen

so deeply in love with her?

Decoys.

Stop.

Pass my order: Prepare to break the door.

Yes.

So many arrows.

There must be a lot of them.

I'll try to hold on as long as I can.

Don't get in the way.

The bamboo tube

is with you.

If I don't come back,

leave with the bamboo tube.

If you lose it,

I'll hold you accountable.

Wei Yun,

with your martial arts skills,

you can easily take the bamboo tube

and leave.

They only want to kill me.

I'm saving you

not just because of Chu Yu.

I hate you,

but you are a decent official.

The current court needs

people like you.

So today,

I'm protecting you for the sake of Great Sui.

Just this once.

As long as I stand here today,

you won't be able to open

the door behind me.

Archers.

Chu Yu,

with your current investigation,

you still don't have any evidence.

Today, Wei Yun and I split up

to bring back

the evidence of your treason.

Ms. Chu,

don't waste words with him.

He's just bluffing.

The Court of Judicial Review

will make him confess.

I'll count that

as my trophy

this time.

The Chu and Wei spirits

can rest in peace now.

As for when

and how you die,

it will be decided by the laws of Great Sui.

Yun.

Gu Chusheng is inside.

Take him away.

We'll deal with the people outside.

Okay.

Young Marquis, Ms. Chu,

be careful.

- Let's go. - Let's go.

Yun.

That man sent out a signal

before he died.

There might be more of them nearby.

Mr. Gu,

what have you discovered

that so many people want to kill you?

It's the evidence of Yao Yong's treason,

hidden inside a bamboo tube.

No wonder.

We'll lead the charge

and break through.

Young Marquis,

we finally meet.

Who are you?

(Shen Yu, a spy from North Qi) That's not important.

What's important is

that none of you will survive.

Gu Chusheng,

give me the tube.

Wei Yun.

I don't trust you

with something so important.

Chase.

Time to show our loyalty.

Kill them!

Archers.

You have nowhere to run.

Hand over the tube,

and I'll give you

a quick death.

Shoot!

How foolish.

There's a rapid stream down there.

Perhaps it's the only way out

on this dead-end road.

Dare you take a gamble?

What?

You don't trust me?

I do.

No matter how hard this is...

No matter what happens...

I'm willing to be with you.

I'm willing to fight with you.

Bring them back, even if they're dead.

Yes.

Just now, my sisters-in-law and I

have captured all the remnants of Yao's faction

in Huajing City.

Huajing City should be safe now.

Uncle, do you know

that this time it was Ms. Chu

who entrusted me with this?

Since I got married,

this is the first time I've accomplished something.

You've never forgotten the Wei family.

I haven't forgotten

their code of conduct.

Uncle, you've always told me

that their actions

are respectable.

In these years living with them,

what I've heard

and seen

has really

touched me.

You're right.

In this world,

everyone's path is hard.

Everyone will encounter many things:

family members leaving,

betrayal, being framed,

and hitting rock bottom.

Everyone will have this moment.

But, Jiu,

the key is the choice.

Life is a journey of self-cultivation.

To transcend the world,

one must first engage with it.

After seeing great sorrow,

great suffering, and great evil in the mortal world,

if one can still maintain their true self,

that is true goodness.

Uncle,

I may not understand now,

but I'm willing to spend my whole life

to understand it.

Well said.

Your Highness,

the turmoil at Yao Mansion has been suppressed,

and Yao Yong has been captured.

You don't need to see His Majesty

at today's early court session.

As a general of our dynasty,

Yao Yong dared to commit treason.

This matters a lot.

(Eldest Princess's Mansion) I must go

to the early court session.

Hanmei?

I know

that you'll go to the Palace today.

I've heard about Yao Yong's rebellion,

and there might still be rebels in the city.

I hope you

will allow me to escort you.

Hanmei!

Your Highness.

I'm glad you're safe.

Call the imperial physician!

Yes.

Hanmei...

Your Highness,

the place where Mr. Xue was injured

is just a hair's breadth from his heart.

It's extremely dangerous.

Whether he will wake up or not

depends on his fortune.

In the coming days,

someone must always be by his side.

I am a witness

to Lord of Qin's treason

years ago.

Whether he did it intentionally

or unintentionally,

Great Sui paid the price

of three cities.

Since then,

the name North Qi

has become a thorn

in my heart,

causing it

to ache terribly.

That day in Qinxi Valley,

the items from North Qi were found.

How could I not be suspicious?

But today, you...

I can't remember which day it was

that you volunteered to come

and risk your life to gather herbs for me,

saying you wanted to heal my injuries.

What medicine can't I find?

Why go up the mountain yourself

and get hurt like this?

This herb only grows

on cliffs and steep walls.

No one will risk their life to gather it.

But for you,

the risk is nothing.

I command you:

Never to gather herbs again.

Your Highness,

I'm hurt.

How could I not understand

that as long as I stay away from love,

I won't get hurt?

How could I possibly like you?

And yet today,

you risked your life

to save me.

I shouldn't doubt you anymore.

Hanmei,

I'll stay right here with you.

I want to see you wake up.

Do you hear me?

If her attendant

hadn't protected her from the blade,

I would've lost Changming.

Huang Quanyou,

pass on my imperial decree.

Make sure to get Yao Yong to talk

and root out every last remnant

of North Qi in Huajing City.

(Huajing City)

Thanks. I can't eat.

Don't worry.

Young Marquis Wei and Ms. Chu

are not easy targets.

A few spies won't be able

to do anything to them.

Here, eat something.

Eat something.

Look at yourself.

You're more worrisome than they are.

Young Master,

it seems someone is coming back.

Where's Yu?

General Chu,

it's just a short distance.

What's the rush?

We're finally back.

Chusheng,

can you hold on?

It's okay; don't worry about me.

We need to get back to Huajing asap

to inform the others

to find Chu Yu and Wei Yun.

Okay.

Mr. Song,

where's Yu?

Wei Yun and she

went towards Pingjin Cliff

to draw the pursuers away.

General Chu, please take some men

to support them.

They went alone?

How many pursuers are there?

About 20 to 30,

including archers.

Chu Shan, Wanyue,

Wei Qiu,

follow me to provide support.

Commander Lu...

I'm precious.

Promise me some wine every day

- until I vomit. - Then forget it.

I'm just joking.

I'll go with you.

I'm at your service.

If you fall on the way,

Ms. Chu will surely beat me up.

I'll go, too.

Mr. Song,

since Yu has entrusted Mr. Gu to you,

please ensure

his safe return to Huajing.

The Duke of Hu

has been waiting for you and your brother.

Commander,

one of them is injured.

They must be hiding nearby.

We cannot let them

escape again.

Keep searching.

Chu Yu?

Chu Yu...

Chu...

Wei Yun,

you're awake.

Don't move.

How are you?

Is your leg in too much pain?

No, it isn't.

Where did you just go?

I went out to see

if there were any useful herbs,

but it was pouring rain outside

and too dark.

I couldn't find anything.

But I found something else good.

I can make grilled fish for you.

I'll help.

No need.

Just stay here.

I'll take care of it.

Sit still.

I don't know when Linyang

will find us.

It won't be that easy.

I don't know if you like fish.

Let's just fill our stomachs first.

Once you regain some strength,

we'll go out

and see if there's a village nearby.

We'll find a physician for you first.

Though the Yao remnants have all been captured,

the Eldest Princess was still attacked

outside her mansion,

causing panic in Huajing.

Yao Yong's fate

needs to be decided asap.

Where is Yao Yong?

Isn't this Mr. Gu?

What an honor to have you

preside over my case.

You don't look surprised

that I'm still alive.

Your butler has confessed to everything.

You colluded with North Qi,

stole military secrets,

killed Wei generals

and the Wei Army,

and caused chaos in Huajing with the intention of rebellion.

Each of these charges

is backed by solid evidence.

Yao Yong,

if you confess truthfully,

I can plead for your family

to be spared.

Why would I kill you?

Well.

The winner takes all.

Since I'm here now,

you can say

whatever you want.

You set a trap for Chu Yu

and Wei Yun in Dingfeng Valley

and sent assassins to kill me in Qinxi Valley.

That day,

I didn't reveal my whereabouts.

How did you know?

Wei Yun,

how are you feeling?

So hot.

Wei Yun.

Wei Yun,

I'm so sorry.
