joining each other and each prospering

in its own fashion.

As no doubt you have already guessed,

there is a motive behind this jolly

little gathering.

Henry is proposing to get married, a

respectable, though scarcely original

course to adopt. And this charming young

lady has yielded to his blandishments.

Almost anyone would consider him a lucky

fellow.

I take it you look forward to a country

life, my dear.

>> I do.

>> Are you sure you wouldn't find it dull?

>> After a life of glamour, although you

told me you don't play or sing or dance,

I'm convinced you're being almost

unbecomingly modest.

I've been glancing over my will.

It can be divided into two parts,

the legacies and Clarendon.

Sophie and Henry are equally provided

for in the first part. So also are my

servants and the executives of whom Mr.

Wilraham is one. About Carandon, as

things stand, the house and the income

from the estate are left to Henry. If he

should die before Philillip, and without

children, it passes to Philillip. So

that when I heard that Henry was

contemplating marriage, I naturally

wanted to see the lady who would be

mistress of Clarendon. It's been very

good of Madmoiselle Roban to come all

this way to be inspected.

I have come to the conclusion that she

is not the wife for Henry. Uncle Arnold,

I asked Esme to be my wife. I'm not good

enough for her. Is that what you mean?

Uncle Arnold? Surely Henry has a right

to choose for himself.
