And honestly, you just get

So how did you know that this
was the right move?

We've been coming to Spain
since 2019.

[Nicolle]
It was the first holiday
we took as a couple.

You know, when you come here,
we just, like, feel, like,

at home.

[Jordan] The food,
the people, the culture.

To come to a place where there
is more of that integration to

the family and the community,
that is, like, kind of

the thing was missing for us
in Seattle.

It was always my dream to be
able to come overseas and just

work and live in
a different way.

We are really excited to start
a family soon, and we really

just want to find a home
and settle in and feel really

comfortable before that chapter
starts for us.

In the foothills of
the Sierra Nevada mountains is

the Spanish city of...Granada.

With year-round sun,
a low cost of living,

and jaw-dropping homes for as
little as 50,000 US dollars.

It's just over an hour's flight
from the capital,

Madrid, and a major
cultural city in Spain's

most southern region,
Andalucía.

What do you think
lifestyle-wise you'll be able

to have here that you can't
have in Seattle?

I mean, if you just think
about the cost of living,

it's a big thing.
-[Nicolle] Yes, affordability.

Yeah.

Be able to find a property
that's much more affordable.

It opens up a lot of doors in
life, especially as you bring

kids as well.

-There's that added cost
to that.
-Yeah.

So to do it in an environment
that is more affordable is just

gonna make it a lot easier.

And what's
on the requirement list

for this family home that
you're building?

I always like to say, I want
a place that has some

soul in it.
-Energy has to be good.

Having two bedrooms with
outdoor space

is definitely important for us,

especially thinking about
our future family.

And the kitchen is also very
important to us.

And we also both work
from home.

[Jordan]
Nicolle teaches meditation
and I'm an author.

So having separate spaces
where we can do our work.

You don't want to work
side by side all day?

No, you know, we do, but...

She's the one who tries to
talk to me all day long.

What kind of budget
have you got?

-$200,000.
-Some wiggle room.

-Yeah.

Being five and a half thousand
miles from Seattle,

Nicolle and Jordan
need some help.

[Micaela]
I'm a relocation expert.

I know the ins and outs of
the local property markets.

There are so many
affordable bargains.

You just need to know
the right places to look.

Our search begins in
the mountain villages within

commuting distance of Granada.

In Seattle, we have a lot of
mountains, and kind of being

surrounded by mountains is
important to us.

Being a remote and rural part
of Spain, this region offers

plenty of affordable housing,
especially when compared to

the urbanized north.

And moving here
couldn't be easier.

There are loads of places in
Europe that offer digital nomad

visas, and Spain recently
launched one as well.

The visa lets you keep
your U.S. job

and pay packet while living
in Spain full time.

With a clear path to residency

and lower tax rates,
it's a win-win.

Such a wonderful thing to be
able to work from

an olive grove or a beautiful
little village in the heart

of Andalucía.

Our first stop is
Pinos del Valle...

a traditional whitewashed
village in the heart of

the Lecrín Valley.
And this family-friendly

Spanish community is
just under 40 minutes

from Granada.

Yet property here is
significantly cheaper.

Beautiful.
Love the colors.

It's really nice getting to
walk around.

-It feels safe and clean.
-Yeah.

I could really see yourselves
in a pocket like this.

I could take this view every
morning for sure.

-I think so.

What did you think of
the little village?

[Jordan] We do love it.

It feels really nice up here
to be away from the city

but still have kind of
a central location.

We can hear the birds chirping,
the trees, the view.

We're really liking it so far.

Our first bargain dream home
is a two-bed located in

the center of the village,
and it's within

walking distance of all
the essentials.

Price-wise, it's on the lower
end of your budget.

So we're looking at
under $150,000.

-So you've got...
-We like that.

-Yeah! Sounds good.
-It's going in
the right direction.

-[Micaela] Right, so head on up.

It's a little tight.

The layout of this home has
been flipped to maximize

the light, with the living area
on the top floor

and the bedrooms below.

How do we feel about having
future kids downstairs

or by the front door?

Yeah, it's definitely not
my favorite, but I do like how

they're at least close to
each other.

Yeah, I mean, I guess we could
try to turn this into a space

for our work.

Yeah, I think because this
space is so open, I mean,

it would be hard for me to
teach classes here.

Because I'm a meditation
teacher, a quiet space is

really important for me.

house is definitely upstairs.

The light in here, it feels so

welcoming and open.

I think this would be a really
great place to just gather.

I really hope that Jordan
and Nicolle can see

the potential in this house.

It might be a perfect place to
speak Spanish and start to

build a Spanish community.

I mean, this space,

concept, I feel like this would
be at least $500,000

back at home.

typically small and practical.

Designed for cooking,
not entertaining.

I think now that we're sitting
down, we feel a little close to

the kitchen,
like we're in the kitchen.

I could probably whip the eggs
from here on the stove.

The rural villages of this
region are famous

for their eye-catching
architecture.

Whitewashed walls aren't
just beautiful.

They're a centuries-old design
choice that reflects the sun

and keeps homes cool.

And an outdoor terrace is
usually part of the plan...

-Wow, it's a whole rooftop!

...creating a place to gather
and eat once the sun goes down.

-[Nicolle] Oh, my goodness.
-[Jordan] Now we're talking!

[Nicolle] I mean,

If you're working downstairs,

I feel like the mornings,
a morning meditation up here

would probably be so nice.

think of the house?

It was a bit tight,
but then as we kind of got to

the next floor and then also
the terrace, it just really

started to breathe
a little bit more.

Having only the two bedrooms,
it doesn't really give us a lot

of flexibility when it comes to
having a family and also having

our work-from-home space.

OK, so with that in mind,

I'll try and show you properties
that are a little bit bigger.

With lower-than-average home
prices and year-round sun,

buyers from the U.S.

are flocking here, drawn by
the dream of a more

laid-back lifestyle.

So this is quite a hot market.

If you guys like
these properties,

we'll need to move
quite quickly.

Next stop, Limones.

Spanish for "lemons,"
and it's not hard to see why.

Buy here, and citrus groves are
right on your doorstep.

No local amenities,
but thanks to excellent road

links to Granada, it offers
a peaceful escape without

losing touch with city life.

The house that we're gonna
see is right in the center.

I really love this
little village.

And this is our house here,
right in front of us.

This three-bed detached
village home is a rare find.

It's renovated to a high
standard, but there's a catch.

The area is residential,
and amenities

are a short drive away.

It's beautiful inside,
and surprisingly,

it's under budget.
Just 125.

-Oh, my gosh,

[Micaela] Yeah.

[Jordan] So much wiggle room.
We could do a lot with that.

Wow.

I do think there's a lot of
potential in this room.

here in this village?

Yeah, I mean, the drive up
took some time.

You start to wish you were
closer to the supermarket.

I also wonder if we're going
to want more outdoor space.

And I think that

having outdoor space is really
something that

we really envision for
our family.

[Micaela]
So, are you happy?

-What are your thoughts?
-We really liked it.

But we're thinking about is,
you know, how far it would be

to go to the supermarket
and have some of those

amenities, which do feel
important to us.

I definitely have a clear idea
of how our brief is evolving.

I want to show you something
maybe a little bit different

with the third house.

I think
you're gonna love it.

Coming from the States,
it's very ingrained

in our culture to be
very work-driven.

I think it's gonna really
help us kind of rewire that

relationship in our life so
we can focus more on the kids

and time with the family.

I think having this can be
just a really special way to

find more ways to get to
the culture outside of

just the food.

Yeah, I was looking over
and I was like, "It's got it."

So I really want to see
a little bit of

For our next home,
we're driving south.

The next place I would like to
show you is quite different.

I think it's got some of
the best potential of any of

the properties I've seen
recently, but I've been told

this morning it's gone
under offer.

It's not finalized, nothing has
been signed, but of course

we have to move quickly if this
is the one that you love.

The village of Cónchar,

known for
its farmland and vineyards.

it's situated in a remote

location between two
mountain ranges,

with Granada and the coast
both a 35-minute drive

in opposite directions.

[Micaela]
Nestled somewhere up here is
the property, and this one is

on just under $270,000.
It's a little bit over budget.

How do you feel about that?

I think that we knew going
into this that we would need to

have a little bit of
wiggle room for our budget,

and I think that if
it offers everything

that we're looking for,
I think we can make it work.

[Jordan]
Yeah, I mean, if we added
our $70,000 in savings to

our budget of $200,000,
we could definitely afford it.

I'm going to wait here,
and I'll catch up

We've never lived away from
a city before, but I love being

up here away from it all.
It feels really peaceful.

It feels really calming,
especially on

the nervous system.

I could probably make-do,
but I definitely think it would

be an adjustment for sure.

I mean, a pool, we didn't have
anything like this at any of

the other properties.

There is so much
that we could do

if we just upped our budget

how does that compare?

Yeah, I feel like the outdoor
space wasn't as big as

we would want it to be.

I don't know if
it's necessarily

the perfect home.

Was this one the standout one
for you?

I would say that this one is
definitely the standout.

Obviously, it's a little bit
over budget.

I think once we saw the house
itself and saw how much space

we would have,
the pool, the outdoor terraces,

I mean, it felt like a really
good use of our money.

All you have to think about is
swimwear and beach towels,

and you're straight
in that pool.

It is a bummer that there is
an offer on that home,

but it is something that
we would love to consider.

I'm going to keep an eye on
it, and if I hear of any small

opening, I'm gonna
let you know.

We might not be able to get
this property.

So I think if we keep looking
kind of in the same style,

going up a little bit
in our budget, I feel like

we might find
the perfect place.

the amazing things that this
country has to offer.

the pool that we absolutely

loved surprisingly came back
on the market.

And we really considered
putting down an offer.

But after thinking about it
some more,

we ended up
changing our minds.

[Nicolle] We've just decided
that we want to be closer

to the city center.

[Jordan] Granada has definitely
stole our hearts.

The food, the people,
the flamenco.

We have been staying in touch

different options,
and are really excited to find
