So you're not re -enlisting? No.

Done as of tomorrow.

You're just going to leave me after a thousand hours of patrolling together?

Yeah, I've had my fill of your awful joke.

Oh, so it's my fault you're leaving? Best partner I ever had.

You've only had one.

So I ruined the streak.

So what's next?

National Park Police.

Blue skies.

Fresh air.

Snow -capped mountains.

You know? No.

I'm from East L .A.

What's up? Did you see that Humvee?

There's no reason for it to be there. And why would a civilian be with it?

What do you think?

Control, this is Control Alpha.

Be advised, unauthorized vehicle in Zone 5. Permission to engage.

Over. Control Alpha, go ahead.

Engage. Copy that.

You sure you don't want to sit this one out on your last day?

And let my partner have all the fun?

So I'm stealing.

Go get him. Go get him.

Control, this is Alpha.

One suspect in custody, another one still on the loose. ETA on backup, over.

Estevez, do you copy?

Estevez, do you copy?

We apprehended the suspect exiting the building.

Man in tracksuit.

Is Estevez there?

Negative. Estevez, do you copy?

Esteban. Esteban!

The blue sky, huh?

I guess these Kevlar vests really work.

How has your last day gone so far, Larson?

I think we missed the trail entrance.

We have to go around these trees.

Guys, come on. Get your heads out of your boat.

Harper's freaking out.

We're out of being a long -distance relationship, so we better send a text

before we lose all service.

What's your excuse?

I'm doing a challenge on Fortnite with Owen. We're so close to getting a

royale.

Excuse me.

Can I ask you a question?

Are you a ranger?

Yes, I am.

You carry a gun?

When I'm at work, I do.

Cool.

Tommy, how can I help?

We're trying to find the Clear Creek Campground.

I'd recommend the Spirit Mountain Path instead.

Just head through the grove of trees and you'll see the sign.

It's the most scenic route to the campsite.

Is it safe?

It's a family favorite. It's very safe.

Thank you so much.

Sure thing. Have fun.

Guys, come on. Off the phone. Go.

Where did you come from?

Wait here.

None

of

your emails are finding me well. It's gotta be from Meets.

I'm surprised you got me a gift.

A tin man finally got his heart.

Buy one, get one free.

Thank you, guys.

This could be the last time we get to do this.

I heard the new boss is by the book. When is boss lady supposed to arrive?

End of the week.

I hope she knows what she's doing.

I think she can hold her own.

Detective Meek.

Yes, ma 'am.

Superintendent King.

I believe most of you are on time.

You're, uh, early.

Detective Esposito.

And Tyson Bernard.

Our tech quiz.

Yeah. Happy birthday.

Briefing in ten.

Absolutely. Already?

This way?

Just that way.

We should probably call Jody.

Jody, where are you?

New boss just showed up.

What? She's not due for three more days.

I don't know.

Briefing in ten.

Copy I'm on my way.

We'll move over.

Last year, National Park saw 332 million visitors.

It's great for the National Park Foundation, not so great for us.

More visitors mean more crime.

The issue on our end is we have a small unit.

We have 40 rangers, a handful of support staff, one tech, and only three

criminal investigators.

leaving the window cracked, so I need you to stay here.

So I can figure out what to do with you.

I've assured the regional director we can handle anything this season throws

us.

Larson, right?

Well, detective, nice of you to join us.

Tour season is upon us. That means within the 5 ,000 square miles of our

million people will visit in the next three months.

We'll be as busy as any mid -sized city precinct.

We had an uptick in crime last year. I've been brought in to bring those

down, and that is exactly what I intend to do.

Get to work.

Larson.

My office.

Happy birthday. I'm sorry I missed it.

I'm getting called into the principal's office.

Have a seat.

I don't need to know why you're late. Just don't let it happen again. I won't.

Sorry.

Jody Larson.

Looks like you're a newbie here, too.

Former military police, exemplary report, NDS, Silver Star.

I see your mom passed away recently.

My condolences.

Let's see.

Combat support.

Now criminal investigator for the National Park.

Why the change?

I like the scenery here better.

Really?

Ah, no. I grew up here.

My dad still lives here.

It was my dream job growing up.

You seem to be the only person here without a partner.

I prefer to work alone.

Why is that?

I almost lost a partner overseas.

I understand, but you need a partner.

It's mandatory now, and it's my job to find you one.

Do you know how many female superintendents there are?

Very few.

I worked hard to get here. I intend to make this the best -run precinct in the

country. For that, I need people who will follow orders.

Do we understand each other? Yeah.

Oh, oh, oh!

No, no, no, no, no, no. Oh, gosh.

Whose dog is this?

Mine. Sort of. He turned up at my place.

Haven't had time to find the owner yet.

We'll sort of get him to the animal shelter.

Will do.

Did anyone report a missing dog?

Let me check.

He broke into my cabin, ate all my food, no collar, no nothing.

Aw.

You're such a mess.

Okay, there's been a few missing dogs this week.

A Lhasa Apso, Chihuahua, and a Miniature Poodle.

You mean Coyote Poodle.

I'm just saying what everyone's thinking.

No one's thinking that.

No reports of a missing lab.

Larson, head over to Rock and Rope. The owner of Ryan Something is climbing in a

restricted area of Whispering Pines. This is his second warning.

We can't have search and rescue breaking the law.

And please, get rid of that dog.

Copy that. On my way.

What are you going to call him?

How about chaos?

How about blue?

Blue it is.

Hey, Dad.

Morning, kiddo.

I was wondering if you wanted to come by for lunch today.

I've got this new box. I don't think I can.

No worries. Totally understand.

But I do want to.

Dinner? We can do that.

I have a meeting with a client at 4.

We have a hearing tomorrow.

See you at dinner?

1800? Yeah, sounds good. I'll see you then. There you go.

Come on.

Back feet.

Hey.

Harper, you there?

Dad made us go fishing.

Want to see the river?

Mom's calling. I'll call you back.

Yeah, I'll send you some pics.

Okay. I love you.

Dad said no phones.

Give them back. You're on yours.

Because I'm in charge.

I think video games are the only way Owen and I are going to stay friends.

Well, you'll make new friends.

That's the best part of starting over.

I don't want to start over.

Well, we're moving, so better get over it.

Hey, babe.

Let me go somewhere more private.

I was told to speak to Orion.

I never expected it to be the Orion Miller.

Jody Larson.

Heard you're back in town.

Gosh, I haven't seen you since... High school graduation.

That's right.

And you left to go fight for our country.

Yeah. That is after I went to college.

And now I'm home.

Last I heard, you were seeing the world.

I actually became a cop first.

You? Yeah. Can you believe it?

Right out of high school.

But I quit after a couple of years and then did all that traveling. Then

it was time to come home.

Opened up this place.

And now I work research and rescue.

So yeah, now we're all caught up.

So you're SAR.

You know you need to abide by the park rules.

Climbing with spring pines.

Which spring pines has the best climbs in the entire park?

Yeah, it's also restricted.

Are you serious?

Come on, we both, like, grew up.

In that park. We treated those restricted signs more as suggestions.

You haven't changed a bit.

Okay, fine.

You're right.

I should know better.

I just won't get caught next time.

Ryan. It won't happen again, detective.

Promise.

What do you say I get you a coffee?

On the house.

I got a new flavor in the back, and you can be the test pilot.

Tommy!

Tommy!

Tommy!

911, what's your emergency?

Thanks for the coffee, but you're still getting a ticket for trespassing.

Wow, you really are by the book.

Yeah, I like to follow the rule.

And do those rules allow dogs to run freely through stores?

Lou, how did you get out of the car again?

Lou?

So he is your dog? Sort of. He kind of found me.

Be advised, we have a missing boy near Thornwood

River. Need assistance from all available units.

Copy that. En route.

Yeah, just got the call too.

Meet you there.

Guess you're coming too.

Okay, uh, over that ridge we'll set up another bridge.

Yeah.

Take someone to the search and rescue. I'm not going to ask you again. I need

you to wait.

What do we got? Tommy Lansky, 12, lasting a couple of hours ago by his

brother, Daniel Lansky, 15.

Daniel walked off while his brother was fishing in the river. When he got back,

Tommy was gone.

Have we talked to the parents yet?

Not yet.

I'll go to the campsite.

Pump the brakes, military.

It's our handle.

Oh, the dog's still here.

Let's just try to answer their questions.

When was the last time you saw your son?

A few hours ago.

My husband and I were here and Tommy and Danny went down to the river to fish.

I shouldn't have encouraged the boys to go fishing without me. It's not your

fault.

I just didn't think it through.

Has Tommy exhibited any unusual behavior or changes in mood recently?

No.

No, he's fine. He's a normal kid.

We've been so preoccupied with the move, maybe we didn't notice.

Move? Well, we're moving after ten years here.

A new job, you know.

It's a great opportunity for the whole family.

Was there anyone in the area who looked suspicious?

You think somebody took it? We have to explore all possibilities right now.

You helped us earlier.

You said we'd be safe.

Wherever Tommy is, we will find him.

We have rangers looking for him all throughout the park.

We're going to need the most recent photo of your son.

I'm sure Danny took some today.

I'll go talk to him.

How are you holding up?

Are you going to find my brother?

I promise I'll try my best.

It's all the rest of my team.

It's my fault. I took his phone away. I should have been watching.

It's not your fault.

Your mom said that you might have some photos of your brother on your phone.

these are from today

Blue!

Blue, come on.

Blue.

I'm so sorry.

So sorry.

Larson.

Deal with that dog, would ya?

We just told Mrs. Lancy we were gonna find her son.

You know this.

Never promise what we don't know.

This park is... 5 ,000 square miles.

He made a promise we might not be able to keep.

I hear you.

But I think I've got something.

Tyson's working on it.

Boss, over here.

So I'm using a facial recognition software to take the image of the man in

Daniel's photo that Larson sent and compare it to the driver's licenses of

the campers in her database, as well as the surveillance footage from all the

parks' exits and entrances.

We're looking for a partially bald male with a dark beard.

Okay, it looks like we've got three leads.

Get copies of their licenses and see what campsites they're at.

Pulling it up now.

Two of them are at Pine Cove, and one has lease rights in Eastbrook, just at

edge of the park. Send Meeks and Esposito to Pine Cove, and send Larson

Eastbrook.

Copy.

Hello, Mr. Seegers?

Yeah?

This is Officer Esposito and Officer Meeks. We're going to need you to step

outside and answer some questions.

Is everything

okay?

Yeah, we can cross off suspect number one. Dude got hair plugs two years ago

hasn't updated his license photo.

Copy that. Head to the next scan site.

I'm here. We'll report back.

If you're with me, don't make me regret it.

This leads to dead end. Kid uses dad's license to make the camping reservation.

Our suspect's not even in the country.

Fuck. That's direct two. Only one suspect left.

Send Meeks and Esposito to back up Larson at Eastbrook immediately.

Copy. You guys hear that?

Got it.

Sending cordon in.

Kid could be anywhere.

I put Marston's better weapon on.

Get a hold of Marston and tell him to wait for backup.

Copy.

Go for Larson.

Meeks and Esposito are on their way. Wait for backup.

Copy that.

Lou.

What is it?

Lou!

Is there a problem, officer?

No problem.

We're just looking for a lost boy.

I didn't heard anything about that.

Were you over by the river today?

Might have been.

Maybe you won't mind coming down to the station.

And answering your question.

I don't think so.

You want to explain how a missing boy had ended up in your truck?

I can get a warrant.

Let's judge what they think.

What happened?

Call me.

I'm going to take the suspect in for questioning.

Anyway, you two can take care of Blue while you're here looking around.

Absolutely not.

Thank you.

See you guys later.

What? Come on, Blue.

Sure.

Search team one, over.

Go ahead.

Research the whole backside of Cooper's Ridge.

No.

Understood. Move on to French's Crossing.

Copy. Anything?

Not yet.

But my team and these NPS officers are the best of the best. We won't stop.

That I can promise.

Tell me where you found the hat, Daniel.

I had it for a while.

I don't think so.

Because that hat belonged to a missing child, and I know that because I saw it

on his head this morning.

Now tell me where you found the hat.

I don't remember. I pick up a lot of things.

I noticed. I saw that in your trailer.

Samuel, we know you have a criminal record.

Now, how do you explain that?

This is you, isn't it?

Hard to tell.

But maybe, look, they didn't find the hat by the river.

Then where'd you find it?

Don't remember.

I just know that it wasn't by the river.

Look, I'm sorry this kid went missing, but I had nothing to do with it.

I have nothing more to say until I talk to a lawyer.

Hey, how's it going?

Something's off.

What were Brenner's prior criminal charges?

Um, wildlife trafficking and natural resource exploitation.

Hang on a minute.

Esposito copy.

Go for Esposito.

Are you still at Brenner's cabin?

Yeah, we're still here.

Anything on Tommy yet?

So far, no footprint.

No sign of anyone else being up here.

Can you smell something?

Yeah, smells like eggs.

I think it's mud.

See if you can find the source.

Oh, yeah, found it. Looks like mud.

Yeah, it's sulfur mud.

And this kind is super rare. This bog will pay a fortune for it.

Gross. There's only one place in the park you can find it.

Natural springs.

He didn't want to tell us where he found the hack because he's been stealing

resources.

I also saw jugs of mineral water.

Meet me at the springs.

Yeah. We're on it.

Come on, Luke!

I swear Brenner picked up the mud.

All right, let's head up this way. Follow the trail.

Blue thinks we should go in another direction.

You can't be serious.

He did find the boy's hat. Did he?

He barked at a parked car. It isn't different.

You know how much training a canine unit dog has to go through to learn how to

track? This is ridiculous.

I'm telling you, he's on to something. I can feel it. Well, feelings aren't

facts. Kids statistically seek higher elevation and get a vantage point when

they're lost. There's no logical reason for us to go downhill.

This is logic enough for me.

Esposito, back me up.

I'm passing on this one.

Don't hate me. It's a waste of time.

Come

on,

buddy. Help us out.

He's got something.

What you got? What you got? I was just looking for a snack.

He wasn't tracking our missing boy. He was tracking food.

Tommy had kind of. At the campsite.

Yeah. Him and everyone else in this park. You know how popular these things

I don't understand.

Are you hungry?

I'm not seeing any footprints.

Nothing.

Yeah, I think Meeks was right. This was a dead end. Of course I was right.

Okay.

What

are

you so happy about?

Hey, Dad.

Hey, kiddo.

We still on for dinner later.

I'm sorry. I'm not going to make it. Are you okay?

I'm fine.

Honey, you can talk to me.

Look, I know things have been a little awkward between us since Mom died.

Dad.

We haven't had a lot of practice talking to each other.

I mean, really talking.

So if I can help, let me.

There was a missing boy, and I met him, and he seemed sweet, and I even assured

his mom that they'd be safe here.

And now he's gone, and I feel like it's my fault.

How could any of that be your fault?

I promised her that I would find her son.

And I don't think I can.

Remember what I used to say when I was having a problem with one of my cases,

when I was stuck?

Go back to the beginning.

Go back to the beginning.

Good luck.

I've got something. So the Lanskys, they live about an hour off out of the park.

One of Tommy's friends, Owen, is about 20 minutes away.

They were constantly talking on social media about how cool it would be if

could stay here and live with Owen. You think he tried to go visit his friend?

Well, I spoke with Owen's parents.

Tommy's not there.

And it's easy to get lost in this park. Without his phone, I'm not sure how he

could find his way out.

Okay, pull up the map.

Get Meeks and Esposito over to Hiller's Point to see if they can find any signs

of Tommy.

And get some Ariel up there.

Let's see if he could track his path from the river.

I'll get Betty over there ASAP.

Betty oh, that's what I named my drone, okay?

You're still here.

Yeah, we just been searching this grid.

There's nothing Hey, we'll

find him

Seriously, you need more juice?

Did

Tommy

fold these wrappers?

He always does that. Makes paper planes out of everything.

Why? Just wondering.

Thank you.

Tommy had been eating meat all day.

Later, Blue got out of my truck, and he picked up Tommy's fence from his

sleeping bag to his clothes to even the snack bar wrapper.

Thar dogs say no words like search, find, which we've been saying all day.

heard me using those words, and he knew Tommy was missing.

It wasn't a coincidence when Blue found Tommy's hat. He picked up his fence.

Just like it wasn't a coincidence when he found the snack bar wrapper at the

spring.

It wasn't trash.

It was a clue.

Tommy had been there.

You knew the whole time.

I think I know which direction he went.

I want you to come with me.

You know I'm in.

Come on.

Amazing here.

This kid would have to be a human compass to find his way up.

Yeah, there are quite a few trails in Heller's Point. It's impossible to know

which trail he went down.

My guess is he takes the... The Flattish Trail.

Yeah, Flattish.

Either way, each trail is going to funnel him out... Out at the end of the

valley.

Yeah, at the end of the valley. We need Sar and the drone if we're going to

cover this valley properly.

Meeks to HQ.

No sign of the boy.

We're going to need all available assets to cover Hillers Point and the valley

below. We're sending everyone your way.

Copy that.

Type in.

Make sure search and rescue is at full capacity. See if we can get some

volunteers up there for help.

Well, where should we... Start? Well, the closest trailhead is about a few

hundred feet east.

And it's also... Gladys.

Correct.

This is where he found the wrapper.

Tyson, copy?

We're headed to the springs. Tell King.

King wants everyone at Hiller's Point. All heads on deck.

That's the wrong direction. We're headed to the springs. Let them know.

You sure about this?

You want to back out. Now's the time.

I like living on the edge.

He's picked up a scent.

Do you have any thin rope in your pack?

Let me check.

I'm guessing he can run 20 miles per hour. I'm fast, but I'm not that fast.

I can track him on my phone.

Will this work?

Perfect.

Come here, boy.

What?

Whoa. That's it. Fast. Don't look.

What's up?

It's a body.

Tyson, copy?

Gopher Bernard.

I need your help.

Anything. Well, almost anything.

I need eyes in the sky on the springs.

Jody, I spoke to King about this.

He said the springs have already been checked. You need to get back here.

Blue picked up a sense. He ran into the forest. I'm tracking on my phone, but

it's spotty.

Can't navigate the terrain without aerial support.

I'm flying the drone in another quadrant.

Tyson, give me 30 minutes. I know I can find Tommy.

I'll give you 20.

Fair enough.

I'm adjusting the drone's altitude to get a better view.

Can you see anything?

Almost there.

There you are.

The thicket of the trees you're running through is about half an acre.

Okay.

There is a steep cliff coming up with a vertical drop of approximately 200 feet.

Who are you talking to?

It's Jody.

Her dog picked up a scent.

Her dog?

She asked for 20 minutes.

Right. If there's no progress ASAP, move that drone back to Hiller's Point.

And I mean ASAP.

Yes, ma 'am.

He blew.

We can make it, right?

Let's really try.

Let's get checked in here.

Envoy?

Lowering.

You okay?

Yeah. Come on, come on, come on.

Good boy.

Hi. Oh, you're safe.

You're all right.

She found him.

She found him.

She actually found him.

We have eyes on the boy.

That's right, Bernard.

Sign, what were you thinking?

I don't know.

We had no idea this move was taking such a toll on you.

We promised to make it so you can always see your friends again.

Great work today.

Thanks. I was talking to the dog.

I thought we had a conversation about protocol.

We did.

You were right to follow your instincts.

But you're still going to need a partner.

Hey, thanks for all your help today.

You're kidding?

It was fun. Fun?

Yeah.

Yeah. I mean, what search and rescue without flip and fall?

Exactly my thoughts.

I didn't have a chance to tell you.

I'm sorry about your mom.

It's good to have you back, Jodi.

Yeah, you too.

I guess.

Yeah, we're headed to begin to celebrate Tyson's birthday. Do you want to come?

I can't tonight. I have something important I need to do.

Okay, fine.

What about you, Mr. Search and Rescue?

I got to take some guys climbing tomorrow.

All right, I'm in.

Okay. All right, Jody.

Jody. You guys have fun. I'm going to go round up the troops.

I'll meet you there. See you there.

And song.

Dad? Hi.

Hi.

I'm sorry it's so late.

How about Thai?

Who can say no to Thai food?

Who's this?

The hero of the day, Blue.

Hello.

We'll be done in a minute Glad you came

So, what's the plan?

We gotta keep him.

He belongs to somebody.

Animal Shelter said I could keep him until I find the owner.

Take him to the vet tomorrow, see if he's microchipped.

Put up some flyers on social, and so we'll see.

We can do this more often.

Why do you still all in one stop?

I'm not ready.

How are you with all of it?

I'm not ready to talk about it.

Understood.

When you are ready, I'm here.

So, give me a play -by -play of the case today.

Well, we started in the morning.

And there was a missing boy.

And it was super early.

And then I spoke to the parents, and I would have been meeting the parents in

the morning.
