My name is Group Captain Todd. During

the war, I commanded an RAF station on

the east coast of England. This is a

story of some of the men of an airc

rescue unit who served under my command.

They didn't fly, but went to sea in

high-speed launches. Their job to rescue

their comrades from the sea. Their motto

Heat. Heat.

The time is the autumn of 1944. The

Allied armies are sweeping through

France and thrusting towards Belgium and

Holland.

Go on, T. Get some sea service in.

I want to do something.

I fly up high up in a turn it in and

prime a port engine. Can't you try?

>> Just off the coast of Holland, sir.

About 20 mi from the shell

Makes you think, doesn't it? If any of

us had anything sharp on it, rip, zip,

and we'd be sitting on about 500 fathoms

of ocean and nothing else. Yes, sir.

This little piece of rubber is all there

is between us and the bottom of the deep

blue sea.

>> That's right, sir. Shake it all

together. What do you feel should be the

There was a sergeant at Fel who took a

jerry can of petrol. I remember similar

circumstances. Stealing by finding I

suppose you call it.

>> That's right. So court marshall and

reduced the rank

>> and then shortly afterwards he was given

his rank back and was eventually killed

over Essen.

>> Oh was he? I didn't remember that.

>> No.

>> Anyway, nothing much can be done about

it till Mai gets back. If he gets back.

>> By the way, sir, about this ends the

show on Sunday. I was wondering if we

couldn't pass it through.
