Thank you.
Tickle. Tickle.
Take it out! Take it out! Take it out!
How did I get here?
I hope they like me.
Hi.
I'm Mandy.
I'm Yigit.
Ciao.
Ma, ever heard of knocking?
You what?
This is to my health.
Mama, a personal thing.
We've talked about this.
Are you ready?
Yeah.
Good.
You'll be fine.
I'm a bit nervous.
Why are you nervous, girl?
I mean, what if the other girls at school don't like me?
You're going to school not to make friends.
You are there for studies.
So focus on your schoolwork. Okay?
Okay.
Good.
Let me help you with this.
You look good in this uniform of yours.
So, today is my fifth day at work as cleaning supervisor.
I can't afford to be legal.
Here, Viola.
And your bottle.
Thank you.
Nandili, eat the breakfast.
Just one photo, Mom.
I'll be working late today.
Okay, Mom.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Just one photo.
I'm so proud of you, my girl.
This is such a big opportunity for you.
Don't like me.
Are you blind?
And so, not only did they do my hair, they also gave us Maddie's and Teddy's
too.
Hashtag soft life.
Hey, it's important.
Hey, it's important.
Oh, stop it.
Don't you guys ever get enough talking about yourself?
Oh, why would we?
Come on, let's see.
My hair, my shoes, my nails.
Boring. You can't handle it, Bosco.
Hit the freeway. Okay.
Anyways, I have something way more interesting for you guys.
Like, it's my new flow.
I want you to check it out, Tasha.
Give me a beat. Wait, but let's go to Mexico.
Mimi, do the dance.
Ay, ay, ay, yo!
Take a look at me.
What do you see? Dog boy, cool boy. I've been killing on this beat. I've been at
it since I was three. I've been winning on this beat. I call the doctor because
my cross is going to be sick.
Tell me how big you are.
Bosco is the man because I'm actually making moves. You can do it how I do.
on fire with my crew.
Ladies, this is a chance because you might be my next boo.
And that was the Tata Mimi Bosco collab, guys.
Is this 11A?
No. Trap dance.
No, it's not.
This is 11A. What's your problem, Mimi?
Looks like God found himself a honey.
Shut up, man.
Let me show you to a free seat.
Okay,
everyone, settle down.
Tasha, we appreciate you have a big phone, but put it away, please. All
Class time is not selfie time.
Are you going to donate that?
There. That wasn't so hard.
Well, I believe we have a new face.
Please, stand up and introduce yourself to the class.
Hi.
My name is Nandalee Zewa. I just transferred here from Riverine in Choma.
Isn't that like a village?
Okay.
No, no, don't sit down. Please, go on.
Tell us more. What are you passionate about?
Mr.
B, I'm so sorry. Please don't put this on my record. You know that I'm your
favorite. I don't have favorites.
If I had any, they would have been here by now.
But, sir, did you keep my alarm performed this morning? You know, those
things that we buy.
Sit down.
Go on, come by me.
Nandula, you were saying? What do you do in your spare time?
Um, I play sports and I listen to music.
Sports and music.
Interesting.
Yeah. I play football and I also make beats.
Village people make beats. Oh, no.
Oh, okay. I guess you and Michelle, they are going to have something in common.
Okay. Thank you very much. You can take a seat now.
So, music, huh?
Well, I sing.
Maybe I can show you around after class?
Sure. Yeah. Great.
This place is...
So huge.
Yeah. Just don't get lost at any cost.
I'll try not to.
Oh! It's such a chance to dislike my picture!
Kids on social media these days.
Anyway, what's your handle? We follow you, eh?
Uh, I don't have one.
Oh.
No, it's fine. It's okay.
Okay? The thing of social media is healthy sometimes.
No, it's boring.
Yeah, like what do you do for fun?
I read and I watch TV.
Read? But wait, you and Kelly have that in common.
Maybe you two should become best friends.
I'm so hungry.
You could have some of my lunch.
What? No, it's just, we haven't really carried, like, lunch to school in years.
So, what do you guys eat?
Food from the tuck shop.
My dad owns it, and I help him run it.
But Mimi here doesn't eat carbs.
Just leave me alone, Tizia. You know I watch what I eat. You know, I keep
telling her she's got a burning body. It's like she doesn't listen.
Hey, I just think it could be a little bit more banging.
Anyway, whatever.
So, you said you're into music, right?
Well, I think.
Really? Yeah.
Well, I mostly make beats on my laptop, but... I write, too.
Wow, you're multi -talented, eh?
You know, you're giving me Chloe vibes.
Who?
Never mind.
So, my idol... My idol is Mampy.
You know?
I hope to be as big as her one day.
You know, if not bigger.
Share with us what you've written, you know? Show us what you're all about.
I don't... I'm not really... Let us be the judge of that.
Come on, share.
Okay.
I spread my wings, ready for flight.
But as I glide, please do not get blind with this sight.
I will give to your eyes.
Okay.
I will make the heavens my home, the sky my own, and in this storm I will
reign queen forever.
I will reign queen forever.
Wow. You have such a beautiful voice.
You think?
Yeah. You know, I should totally write something for you.
Yeah. You know?
We could be like collaborators.
It could be like our thing.
You can be the participant of my party.
The what?
You know, never mind. But just know, you and I will make great music together.
Please.
Hey, baby.
Hey, beautiful.
Hi, I missed you. I missed you too.
You and my brother can be so annoying sometimes.
Baby, can you take us to a commercial for ice cream? It's so hot.
Yeah, sure.
What? I can't come. I've got football practice.
Can't you just miss us? I'm captain. You know I can't do that. Let me hurry up.
I need to change.
You look good. Thank you.
Can I get you both a card? Yeah.
Hi.
Hi. River Rain, right?
Nandi Labor. You can call me Nandi.
Okay, whatever.
I like your hair.
Oh, thank you. I like your... So good.
So, uh, it's get the show, right?
Are you trying to be a nun or... Um, no, actually, it's just for today.
I'm getting a new one tomorrow.
Okay. So, um, I'm taking my girl for ice cream.
Do you want to come?
I've got football practice, but I guess I can come.
Ah, sure.
Yeah. Thank you.
Um, sorry, I just remembered. I don't think I have space.
Uh, but next time?
Sorry, River Rain.
It's fine.
I love you.
I love you.
My favorite people.
Mother, dear.
Welcome.
Am I even welcome here?
Is that how you welcome your father?
I'm tired.
I just got back from school.
So what did you learn today?
What is that band of teaching?
You know...
He was my junior in school.
Yeah.
You taught him everything he knows, didn't you?
I did.
I did.
You know, I was the best teacher in school.
Heavy on the wall.
What?
Hey, hey, hey. Come back before you go.
Where is my money?
Where is the money?
Gogo is right.
Electricity has finished.
Stuff at the tax shop is running out. We need to buy supplies with the money.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Where is the money?
My money!
Is this all?
Yeah? Is this all?
Good girl.
You know,
we are here because I worked for this house. I worked.
I'll be back.
Dear diary, today wasn't so good.
Hoping tomorrow will be better.
Morning mom.
Morning love, how are you?
I'm good.
Breakfast looks tight.
Wow, thank you.
You can start eating.
No, I'll eat when I'm done.
New uniform?
Um, yeah.
I made it shorter. This is how the girls at school wear theirs.
Are we now doing what other girls are doing?
Mom, I'm just trying to fit in.
Nandili, you need to learn to stand on your own.
You were in school to get an education, not to focus on your looks.
Mom, relax.
It's just a skirt.
Your lunch is on the dining table.
Please pack it.
Um, about that.
Turns out we're not allowed to carry packed lunch to school.
Are you sure about that?
Yes, I'm sure.
I have to finish preparing.
Can I? No.
So? Okay. I wrote this last night.
Oh.
Let me try singing it.
I have a melody for it, so. Oh, you do? Yeah.
Let's hear it.
Okay.
Okay.
I feel scared and alone.
Yeah.
I need a hand to help me.
Hello? Yeah.
What are you doing? She sounds dope.
I mean, I guess.
I will survive.
Hey.
That was pretty cool.
Oh.
You know how we do, baby girl.
You think so?
Because I wrote that.
Okay, relax, dear girl. That was okay.
You see, because I write, too.
And, oh, Mr. Banda did mention, you must be very good.
It's whatever.
Yeah. Babe,
where's your ride?
By the car. It's the demo for this dream.
Oh.
Thank you.
Thank you.
What's up, ladies?
Hi.
You coming?
Where are you going?
To record something for Instagram, then go home, Nathan. You can go for work
later.
I'll catch up.
Okay.
River girl.
Show you some leg today, huh?
I know, right?
Are you girls ready for my Saturday chill?
Yeah. I even got a new outfit.
Oh, perfect.
River girl, will you come through?
Me?
No, the person behind you.
Yes,
I'd love to.
You've got to be ready to have some serious fun because you're going to be
fired.
I'm okay with having fun.
Ah, perfect.
You're going to be having some skinny dipping going. Are you down for that?
Great.
What's that?
That, you know, going swimming, but without any of the clothes.
I don't know.
I've never done that before.
Dry. I mean, I haven't either, but YOLO!
Is everyone going to be doing it?
Of course, everyone.
Not Kini Deepin.
No party.
Okay. Bye, new girl.
Dear diary, they like me.
We had to make a sound about how excited we are about the first teen drama
series. I'm just getting my words mixed up. But let's make a sound to show
excitement. What sound would that be?
Welcome
to
Tikula After School. Now, Tikula means Tikula.
Right? Yeah. Look at me.
Tikula means we are growing and we are growing with this amazing, brilliant new
show. So Leona, right? Hello, how are you? I'm fine, how are you? And Marie.
Hi. And Kachila.
Hi.
I want to start on the uniform.
The uniforms are amazing, not because I love chitenge, like that's not the only
reason, but it's just so different. Would you wear that kind of uniform in
life?
Well, personally, away from the character of Taizia, in real life, I
We just adjusted the bottom to a bell -bottom name. It was something that I've
honestly not seen before, so I definitely would wear it in person.
Nice. Leona?
I wouldn't.
If it was shorter,
shorter than the actual shorter version of Nandile, maybe I would.
Oh, yeah? Yeah, but the longer, no.
So the length was the issue for you? Yeah.
Okay. Kathila, would you? I do not think I'd wear that uniform, but I'd probably
wear the shorter ones, maybe a little tighter, but not the longer ones. Well,
that was me. Shout out to my mama. That was me. And they used to call it like a
wedding dress. Like, oh, me too with the wedding dress uniform. But here we are.
We did great.
So Leona, your character Nandi is the new girl at school.
Yeah. What was that like for Nandi? And personally, have you ever been the new
girl at school?
Yeah, every new school. I only attended two schools. So I was a new girl like
twice. But I would say for Nandi, it was more of trying to see who's going to be
at the school.
Like she finds this cool kid and she's like immediately, I want to be part of
those guys. She kind of got a bit distracted with trying to be someone she
wasn't and, you know, fitting in with a cool kid.
Well, according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, belonging is a need, is a human
need. Now, Kachila, have you been the new girl at school?
I have been the new girl more times than I would like. We moved here when I was
around 10 years old from the States, so I was the new girl and very different
from everyone around me. So I can see Nandi's struggle to fit in and be
that person.
What? That sounds like a lot.
But have you, away from school just generally, have you ladies been in a
situation where it's completely different and you're trying to see how
and to a point where it's almost like you're obsessive about it, like I need
fit in. Have you ever felt that way outside school?
Yeah, you know, for me, I have a little bit of social anxiety.
Do you?
Yeah. I just shut down sometimes when I'm around people I'm not yet familiar
with. I think the best example I can give is when I walk onto a new set
I do wardrobe styling.
So before I get to know everybody, say, okay, no, these are the people who are
going to be doing this. These are the people who are going to be doing that. I
just have this, like, awkward look on my face, you know, because I'm not sure
what to say, you know, to make them laugh.
I'd usually just be in, like, my office, you know, until I just say, you know
what, Mary, you need to make friends because they're going to be stuck with
these people for six months.
So you need to learn how to talk to them now. Let's do it. Let's do it.
So definitely.
I haven't been out in a while, but when I usually go for parties and there's,
like, no one I know, and there's barely one person that I know there who
literally knows everyone, and they leave me and go hang out with someone else,
and I'm forced to make friends with people I don't know, just so I don't
weird. So I'm just like, okay, hi.
You know, I try to make a conversation with someone I don't know, and basically
I'm not giving out the real me, so I'm pretending to be someone else.
Kajila? Real quick, what would you say?
I can agree with both of them. Working in like a creative space as I do, I have
to meet so many new people and sometimes it gets a little overwhelming.
And in social situations as well, not the best person in those types of
So definitely have to learn how to get over that.
Nice. Now, Marie.
Yeah. You play a very confident, your character is very confident. Yeah. And
you're like, you're the angel.
On Leona's shoulder. On Leona's shoulder, yes. Yeah, on Nandi's
to tell her.
Would you say that is true to Taizia's character, that
confidence? The confidence that Taizia has is what gives Nandile the
to say, you know what, I think I should be myself.
Because if Taizia can be herself and she's still loved by everybody, then who
I not to be?
You know, because people have to learn to love me for me, not for what they
me to be. We have a couple of questions, actually, from some of our viewers.
Remember that you can be a part of all these lovely conversations and the show
by just staying glued to the Sky Girls Zed pages on the socials. Now, to the
questions, we have this one from Susie.
Susie says, what advice can you give to a girl who is in Nandi's position?
For example, trying her best to impress others even though she's uncomfortable.
That's my question?
Yeah.
I would say don't fake yourself for a stranger because
the person you're trying to please, you don't even know them. Why should you
fake who you are?
Leona is trying to please others.
I'm not Leona anymore.
I end up being someone else who I don't even know.
So, never please yourself for other people.
So, another question. This one is from Lucy.
Lucy Nisaka.
Apart from owning a school tuck shop, what else does or did Taizia's father
do?
Oh, Lucy, my girl. Lucy is like, we want to know. Like, we are just ahead. Okay.
So, before...
Taizia's father owns a tuck shop. He was actually a teacher, you know. And
Taizia actually did go to many good schools because of her father's teaching
ability, you know. Oh, okay. Yeah.
So he's a teacher by profession, but then because of circumstances beyond his
control, he lost his teaching job. But then fortunately Skywood allowed him to
live on the property, you know, and then it gave them housing, you know, the
housing.
They could live there as long as they could work in a tack shop. Now, this one
is from Mumba, and this one is more general.
What challenges did the cast face when shooting?
Where do we begin?
Do you want to start or should I? No, you should start. You should start.
Well, personally for me, I don't know. I can't speak for everybody else because
we all went through different things, you know.
I did have moments where I just broke down because of...
I was trying to figure out how to balance both my schedules to say, okay,
side I'm HOD, this side I'm Taizia.
When I leave the set from Sky Girls, when I ask the permission to leave
have to go to the gym and then I have to do boxing for like three and a half
hours and then go home and go through script.
Well, you make it look seamless, so you're doing a great job.
Great! The people by the rock that I got.
Fiona, real quick, maybe one challenge that you faced?
I think it was, for me, the challenge was how I never realized I was tired.
And then I would eventually get panic attacks on set.
So that was really the worst. I would literally be told by my makeup artist,
you're tired. But then I wouldn't feel it.
And then I would only know when I break out.
And then I'm like, I remember Marie was always there for me because I would
always, like, break out. And I'm like, what's happening to me? She's like,
you're just having a panic attack. Just relax.
Just relax.
So, yeah, that was the most challenging part.
Yeah. There's a lot that goes on, eh? Yeah.
Yeah. Well, we're grateful for your service. I feel like people need to tell
people in the creative industry that as well. Thank you for your service because
this is a service.
Now, let's talk about skinny dipping.
Does Nandi do it?
Have you watched it?
Would Leona do it? No.
No.
No.
So this was only episode one of eight episodes.
Just one.
Just episode one. So what else do we, what can we expect from the other
episodes?
Well, more drama.
more beautiful music, you know, more uplifting messages.
You know, there's so much excitement. You know, you guys just, you have to see
this. Yeah?
You have to see it to believe it.
Yeah, we definitely want to see it. We also want to see it. Why are you right
there? I'm looking for specifics.
Like, tell me, what does Nandi do? What happens to Tasia? We can't be spoilers
of our own TV. No, we can't do that. We can't just ruin it for everybody.
But you're not ruining it for me. You have to win it for me. We've got to
And Kachila, you're a social media influencer. What are you expecting? I'm
assuming you would love to create content as well based off of the show
we're watching.
What are you expecting from your...
I am expecting them to address more issues that young girls face and to
encourage them further because seeing such shows like this and looking to you
guys definitely makes them feel like, oh, that's someone who looks just like
and they could be that person to guide me. So definitely just keep doing what
you're doing. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing. Now I've got my eye on
Mimi.
Just saying. I don't think she's going to give Nandi such an easy time.
I wish I could have said something that made you go, you know, we cannot.
Sadly. Sadly. Quite sad.
I tried.
I tried.
Well, this has been Tikula After School, and we have been chatting with two of
the cast members.
We have Marie and Leona, as well as our social influencer, social media
influencer, Kachila and Sky Girl.
out there now if you have any burning questions that you would like to know
about the show and the cast you can send them via our socials yes i'm saying our
