(foreboding music)
- [Narrator] /t all began a very long time ago
when a merchant ship was set upon
by pirates of the Sengh Brotherhood.
The small boy watched helplessly
as his father was killed by the pirate leader,
the evil Kabai Sengh.
He jumped overboard and was washed ashore
on a mysterious jungle island called Bengalla.
It seemed like a case of out of the frying pan
and into the fire, but the Touganda tribesmen
meant the boy no harm.
They scooped him up and carried him to their village.
And that night, in an ancient ceremony of fire and drums,
the tribal shaman presented the boy
with a ring of great significance.
Then and there, the boy understood that he was destined
to revenge his father's death by fighting piracy,
greed and cruelty in all their forms.
And when he grew to be a man, he became "The Phantom."
(intense dramatic music)
(truck rumbling)
- Damn worthless map. - You drive, I'll navigate.
- The problem is the map's all wrong.
- No, map is good, Quill.
Remember its source, it can't be wrong.
- Then why does it show a bridge back there?
We never crossed no damn bridge.
(kid speaks in foreign language)
- Well, what's he say, Morgan?
- Ah, he says turn around, we'd better turn around.
- Not a chance.
You know, maybe this little quitter
needs a lesson in positive thinking.
(elbow thuds)
(truck swishing)
(tires screeching) (bushes crushing)
(kid speaks in foreign language)
- Hey, Quill, now I get it.
Turn the map around, you got it upside-down, you big moron.
- Big moron.
(both laugh)
- If the map's upside-down,
then there oughta be a bridge up ahead.
And all I see is more jungle.
Oh, shit!
(tires screeching)
(suspenseful music)
- Hey, Quill, no sudden stops.
What's the big idea?
Oh, hey, hey, take a look at that.
(suspenseful music)
- What do you think? - I don't know.
Looks like it'll hold, but then again.
- Breen, Styles?
- I hate to bet my life on it, Quill.
- Same here. - Okay.
We'll go over on foot.
All except one.
He'll stay back and drive the truck across.
- Yeah, but which one?
(wooden bridge creaking)
(branch snapping)
(wooden bridge rattles)
(suspenseful music)
(scrap material thuds)
(suspenseful music)
(wooden bridge creaking)
- I knew this bridge was safe.
- Come on, kid.
(truck rumbling) (suspenseful music)
Almost there.
The brake, use the brake!
Okay, back in the truck.
(door clanks)
(door thuds)
(truck engine revving)
(door clicks)
(door clanks)
That's on foot from here.
Okay, Zak, take a look, which way?
(Zak speaks in foreign language)
- Now, what now, what's his problem now?
- He says we can't go on, these woods are protected.
- Oh yeah, protected by who?
(Zak speaks in foreign language)
- By a ghost.
- A what? - A ghost who walks.
(tense music)
- Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that.
- [Morgan] He says he's not taking us beyond this point.
- Just shoot him.
- No, we may need him. - Oh!
- To drive the truck back across the bridge.
Tie him up and leave him here.
We can find our own way.
(water splashes)
(mystical music)
This is it, we're there.
(footsteps crunching)
(wind whooshing)
(suspenseful music)
(tense dramatic music)
(shoes thumping)
(foreboding tense music)
Everybody look around.
(shoes clacking)
(foreboding tense music)
- Wow, you look like an important fella.
(suspenseful music)
(materials jangling)
(suspenseful music)
Hey, Quill, up here!
(suspenseful music)
Got it. - Mr. Drax
is gonna be very happy.
- Hey, so what's so important about that thing anyway?
- I don't know.
I don't like to ask Drax too many questions.
His answers scare me.
(sinister music)
- Whoa!
(Styles grunting)
- Styles!
(Styles gasping)
(gunfire pops)
(tense dramatic music) (body thuds)
- What the hell happened?
- He's dead
Damn thing came alive and choked him to death.
- It's not possible.
- Tell Styles.
- Come on, let's get the hell out of here.
- And what about all this other stuff?
There's a lot of valuable junk in here.
- Take it, take it all.
Nobody's gonna miss it.
(treasure jingling)
- Now what?
(gentle drums beating)
- Drums. - I know that.
But what does it mean?
- Nothing, don't mean nothing.
But hurry up, just the same.
(rhythmic drums music)
(elephant trumpeting)
(monkeys screeching) (alligator splashing)
(monkey screeching)
(rhythmic drums music)
(triumphant music)
- Devil, somebody needs us.
(triumphant music)
(shoes clacking)
- This place is really giving me the creeps.
(bushes rustling)
(triumphant music)
What the hell is that?
- Shoot him!
(gunfire pops)
- Oh, shit! - Run!
(horse galloping) (intense music)
(Breen groans)
- No!
(face thuds)
(Breen groans)
(Devil growls)
- Watch him, Devil.
He moves, eat him.
(Devil growls)
(horse galloping) (triumphant music)
(truck door clicks)
(truck door thuds)
- What about Breen? - Tough luck, forget him.
(truck engine revving) (tires screeching)
(horse galloping) (triumphant music)
(Phantom whooshing)
- Who was that guy?
- Somebody I already killed.
- What? - You heard me.
I killed him, years ago.
- Well, guess what?
He's back.
- At least he's behind us.
(Phantom thuds)
- Ah!
(truck rattling)
(gunfire pops)
- [Morgan] Did I get him?
- I don't see him.
You must have hit him.
(both laugh)
(fist thudding) (door latch clicks)
(truck whooshing) (body thuds)
(Quill grunts)
(fist thuds)
(metal skull thuds)
(knife swishing)
(knife squelching) (Phantom moans)
(elbow thuds)
So long, pal!
(kick thuds)
(truck rattling)
Keep the truck.
(body thuds)
(truck rattling)
(wooden bridge cracks)
(intense music)
(hanging bridge creaks)
(Zak speaks in foreign language)
(bridge rope snaps)
Ghost Who Walk!
- Oh, yeah.
(bridge rope snaps) (tense apprehensive music)
(bridge snaps)
(Zak moans)
(bridge crashing) (intense music)
It's okay now.
(cover tearing) (Zak screams)
(foreboding music) (Zak gasping)
(both grunting) (ropes snapping)
Hold on, it'll be all right.
(foreboding music) (ropes snapping)
(gunfire pops)
(triumphant music)
(bridge ropes snap)
(explosion booms)
(car whooshing)
(vehicle sputtering)
- Put 'em in the guard house. - There you go, man.
- What have you got here, Corporal, poachers?
- Looters, Captain.
- Captain, you got a problem.
You got a thing out there.
A big strange looking thing on a horse with a wolf.
- Get him out of here.
- Right this way, hurry up.
- That man's been chewing
on the wrong kind of jungle growth.
- You know what he's talking about, Captain.
We both do.
- Oh, not now, Weeks, I'm not in the mood.
- The Ghost Who Walks, The Phantom.
- It's nonsense.
According to legend, he's immortal.
Been around for four centuries.
Imagine it, Weeks, 400 years, it just isn't impossible.
(mystical music)
- Ow, ow. - Did that sting?
- Yes. - Good.
That means it's working.
(paper rustling) (mystical music)
- This is it, this is what I'm looking for.
The Skulls of Touganda, one made of gold,
one made of silver, one made of jade.
- Are they valuable? - More than that, Guran.
They're dangerous.
Listen to this.
"When placed together, the three skulls harness an energy
1000 times greater than any force
or high explosive known to man."
It's all right here on the chronicles.
"A long time ago, the Touganda tribe possessed the skulls
and knew the secret of keeping their force contained.
The village was attacked
by the pirates of the Sengh Brotherhood.
The tribe was destroyed
and the skulls were separated and lost.
For four centuries, there's been no trace of them."
Until today.
Um, you know, I'm, I'm fine.
It's, I'm good as new, really.
- Very well, Ghost Who Walks, maybe later.
- Yeah, maybe.
(book sliding)
- I used to come here myself, Kit,
to consult the chronicles for guidance and wisdom.
Usually when I was troubled or confused,
or just screwed up real bad.
- I'm guilty on all counts, Dad.
I let that skull slip right through my fingers.
- Don't be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes.
- This one gets worse. - How so?
- It was the Sengh Brotherhood.
I saw the spiderweb tattoo.
- You turned over one of the skulls of Touganda
to the Sengh Brotherhood?
They've tried and failed to get their hands
on those skulls for the last 400 years!
- They don't have all three.
- We don't know how many they have.
You have any idea what it means
if the brotherhood gets control of the skulls?
- They'd be invincible.
- Then stop them.
You're the only one who can.
(tense music)
- Excuse me, Ghost Who Walks.
- Yes, Guran? - I, I thought I heard...
Were you talking to somebody?
- It was myself.
I was, I was talking to myself.
(car whooshing)
- I beg your pardon, you can't park there.
(car door clanks)
Oh, Ms. Palmer.
I didn't realize, I'm very sorry.
- Forget it, Falkmoore.
I'd throw me out too if I didn't know better.
- Welcome back, Ms. Palmer.
Oh, here, let me help you with those things.
- Thank you.
(bright symphonic music) (crowd chattering)
- Oh, Diana! - Mother.
(shoes clacking)
- Oh!
(lips smacking)
- You look absolutely stunning.
- Oh, your timing couldn't be worse.
Oh, but how are you anyways?
- Lily, you look marvelous.
- I've contracted malaria, Mother.
- That's nice.
- Diana. - Uncle Dave.
I'm so sorry, I didn't realize you were having a party.
- Oh, it's nothing.
Just a Palmer Foundation dinner.
I'm much happier to see you.
How's the Yukon?
- Dave, it's cold.
What more do you wanna know?
Well, why don't you freshen up?
- Actually, I'm gonna go get something to eat.
- Jimmy Wells is here, he'd love to see you.
(bright symphonic music)
- Hello, Xander.
- Lily, why is Xander Drax here?
- He made very large contribution to the foundation.
- [Dave] Return it.
- But he's a respected businessman
- No, Lily, he's a thug.
- [Guest] Hi, Mr. Drax.
- You know, I had the strangest urge a few weeks ago,
to charter a plane, track you down up there
on frozen north, charge into your tent door,
hut or log cabin or whatever,
sweep you off your feet
and bring you back here to New York.
- Really, Jimmy, why didn't you?
- I'm not sure exactly, but after a few sets of tennis
and a cold gin fizz, the urge just seemed to pass.
- Are these ready? - Yep.
- Gosh, you're pretty in those woodsy flannels.
(lips smacking)
You have to admit, Diana, there's magic there.
What's in the sandwich?
- Baloney.
- Mayor, Commissioner, enjoying yourselves?
- As much as I can in this monkey suit.
- Wonderful affair, Dave, you've outdone yourself.
- Thank you, Mayor.
- Excuse me, gentlemen, here's the man I wanna see.
- You're not welcome here, Mr. Drax.
- Well, the Police Commissioner's standing right here.
Why don't you have me arrested?
- Be sure to sample the canapes on your way out.
- For God's sakes, Dave, that's not necessary.
- Oh, that's all right, Mayor, I can speak for myself.
Dave, help me out here, will you?
Your reporters have been poking their noses
into my personal affairs,
and I just don't understand why, do you?
- Yes, and you will when we publish our story.
- Why go after me?
I'm just a private citizen.
- You own companies that regulate public utilities.
You control the trade unions.
You influence interest rates and stock prices,
and you have personal and business involvements
with the Zephro crime family.
I'd say you're a very public figure, Mr. Drax.
- You know, in all my life, I never heard such tall tales.
Have you been talking to my ex-wives?
(commissioner laughs)
You know what, how much does this newspaper cost?
- 2 cents daily, 5 cents on Sunday.
- No, no, no, all of it.
The building, the presses, the typewriters.
Maybe I'll just buy the whole damn thing.
- Not everything in life is for sale.
- Of course it is, Dave.
And I'll tell you something else.
I usually get what I want.
(cabinet door clicks)
(drawer slides)
- Gentlemen, I have no ax to grind.
I'm only interested in the truth.
And I've learned from a highly placed source
at the City Library
that Drax has been extensively researching esoteric volumes
that are normally kept under constant lock and key.
He's interested in something connected with this symbol.
(paper rustles)
- So what's it mean?
- He's on a quest for a supernatural power.
These are dangerous and turbulent times, gentlemen.
Dictators and tyrants are popping up all over the world.
Drax already has the desire to become one himself,
and this will provide him with the means.
- That's nonsense, Dave.
- I know it's hard to fathom, but Drax believes in it.
And this man must be taken seriously.
I've been able to trace the origin of that spiderweb symbol
to a place called the Bengalla Jungle.
- This is a ticket for the Clipper.
You're not thinking of going there, are you?
- My plans were to leave tomorrow
and meet up with a man named Captain Philip Horton.
But now, I don't know whether I can turn my back
on Drax for that long.
- It's probably just some wild goose chase anyway.
- That's right.
A far-off jungle's no place for you.
- I agree, you need to stay here and take care of things.
- There you go, Dave.
Listen to your niece.
- Let me go for you. - I don't know, Diana.
- I want to go.
(suspenseful music)
(car tires hissing)
(car sputtering)
(car door clicks and thuds)
- You were right Mr. Drax, they know far too much.
(suspenseful music)
- Bye! - Bye!
(footsteps thumping)
(suspenseful music)
(car whooshing)
- All right, well, I'll be there.
Hey!
- Call him back.
- Safe flight, thank you. - Thank you, sir.
(suspenseful music)
- It's Ray Zephro.
Yeah, our little tootsie is boarding the plane right now.
Just say the word, I'll have her dragged off by the hair.
- Well, thanks, just the same, Ray,
but I have another way of dealing with this.
(blades swishing)
After all, I do have friends in that part of the world.
I've gotta go, Dr. Fleming is here, the librarian.
- Thank you, sir.
- Dr. Fleming, thanks so much for coming.
- I don't mind, it's a nice day for a walk.
- Yes, it certainly is.
Please sit down.
- So how can I help you?
- Well, you can reassure me
that the research I've been doing at the city library
is strictly confidential.
- Of course it is.
- Really, are you sure?
Because Dave Palmer has been poking his nose
into my business of late.
- You have nothing to worry about, Mr. Drax.
Your privacy is protected.
All requests for access
to special collections come directly to me.
I'm the only one who sees 'em.
- Well, good, I feel a whole lot better now.
Thanks so much for coming.
- Not at all.
- Oh, one more thing if you don't mind.
I'd like your professional opinion
on something under this microscope.
- Sure.
- Here, let me hold your glasses.
(suspenseful music)
- I don't see a thing.
- Just turn the focus now.
(suspenseful music)
(blades swishing) (Fleming screams)
Well, I guess you won't be needing these anymore.
(glasses snap)
(airplane rumbling)
- Your coffee, ma'am. - Thanks.
(airplanes roaring)
(intense music)
- Guran, I'm leaving now.
I'm going with Zak.
He said that the, what are you listening to, "Junior G-Man"?
- I wish it was, this is real.
(indistinct chattering)
- The Pan Am Clipper has been forced down over the ocean.
(propeller thrumming) (intense music)
(machine gun popping)
(intense dramatic music)
- He'll do.
We want Diana Palmer.
And we're prepared to kill all of you one by one
until she steps forward.
- No, no, please. - I'm Diana Palmer.
- So quickly, how disappointing.
Happy now?
Get a good look.
(face thwacking) (Diana moans and thuds)
- [Corporal] I'll stay on the radio, Captain.
- All right, wake me if there's any news.
(group chattering)
(water splashing)
Can't you ever come in through the front door?
- It's too obvious, I like the window.
- Good to see you, Phantom. - Captain.
- We've um, had some trouble tonight.
- So I've heard, any news?
- Passengers have been picked up
by a Portuguese fishing boat.
Everyone's safe, except one young woman
who was abducted off the Clipper.
- Who?
- She was on her way to see me, oddly enough.
Her name's Diana Palmer.
- Diana Palmer, from New York?
Uncle owns the Tribune?
- Yes, that's right, how did you know?
- I heard the name somewhere.
- Huh, first those grave robbers and now this.
I only hope we can get her back.
- I'll see what I can do.
- Oh, boy, you better go out the way you came in.
I have enough trouble trying
to pretend you're not real as it is.
(inspiring music)
- Thanks, Zak.
(inspiring music)
- Ghost Who Walk, I remember.
They had airplane.
- Who, the bad men?
- Plane with boats for feet.
- Boat, boats for feet.
What, sea planes?
Sea planes.
(intense dramatic music)
- Thanks for the help. - Let's see her face.
- She's sort of pretty in a spoiled rich girl kind of way.
- Who are you people, are you crazy?
Do you realize how many laws you've broken?
Disruption of international air transportation.
Abduction, piracy, kidnapping.
- Ooh, feisty too.
- Shut up.
- If this kidnapping is about money,
you're not gonna get 1 cent.
Not one red cent.
(tense music)
- I gotta report in now.
Somebody has a big interest in you.
Maybe when I get back, you and I can spend some time alone.
(tense music)
(horse trotting)
(triumphant music)
- It's good work, Zak.
Now you go back to the Rope people.
And stay away from bad guys, huh?
No Caliba. - No Caliba.
(tense dramatic music)
(Devil huffing)
(tense dramatic music)
(Devil huffing)
(rope creaking)
(tense dramatic music)
- Nice boots, expensive?
- Not really.
- Come on, we can talk.
It's just us girls.
Mind if I take a look?
- Quit that.
- Huh, I was right.
Fifth Avenue, New York City.
Hmm, just my size too.
(tense music)
What have we here?
(door slams)
- All right, gentlemen, nobody-
(pilot screams)
Ladies, kindly pardon my error.
(gunfire pops)
- Don't move.
(water hissing)
- Ooh, I love that.
(feet thudding)
- What is this, a ship full of women?
- All my pilots are women. - Interesting, excuse me.
- Who are you?
- A good Samaritan.
- I bet you're better than good.
(siren wailing)
Looks like I'm gonna get the chance to find out.
- There's an old jungle saying.
Never point a gun at someone
'cause it just might go off.
- Ooh, fast hands.
I like that in a man.
(gentle apprehensive music)
(lips smacking)
- Tie her up.
(fist thudding)
Or don't.
- It's personal.
- Let's go.
- Not so fast, why should I go with you?
- Trust me. Diana. - You know my name?
- Sure, yeah, you're Diana Palmer.
Your kidnapping's been reported to the authorities.
This is a rescue.
- Thanks, you've done a good job.
I can take it from here.
- She's not changed a bit.
(door thuds)
(footsteps thud)
- What the hell is going on?
- There's a man on board in a purple suit.
- No, it can't be.
Scramble the pilots, find him, stop him!
Don't let him get off this ship, now go!
(shoes clacking)
- Hey! - Shh.
(footsteps thudding)
- I'll take court side. - All right.
- I think we should stick together.
- Okay, I guess what I meant to say
is I think we should stick together, but I should go first.
- Fine, go ahead, it's your rescue.
(blow thuds)
- Get a hold of him.
(Phantom grunts)
Relax, pal, relax.
Small world, huh?
Hey, how is that knife wound healing, huh?
Now, where was it again?
Right about there?
(blow thuds) (Phantom groans)
(Devil growls)
(Quill screams)
- Good boy, Devil.
(body thuds)
(fist thudding)
(elbow thuds) (thug moans)
(fist thuds)
(Devil growls)
- The dog's a wolf.
- I know, come on.
(triumphant music)
(Devil growls)
- Easy.
(footsteps clacking)
- Come on, get in.
- You can fly a plane?
Of course you can, why ask.
(Devil growls)
(plane propeller whirring)
- Let's go, they're getting away!
We gotta stop them.
(plane propeller thrumming) (intense dramatic music)
(gunfire popping)
Come on, mount up, we're going after 'em!
Come on! (gunfire pops)
(water splashing) (seaplane propeller thrumming)
(intense dramatic music)
Hurry up, hurry up, let's go!
Come on, come on, come on!
(truck engine revving)
(truck rattling)
(intense dramatic music)
Stay with us, ride fast!
- Yeah, yeah, come on, giddy up!
(horse galloping)
(Devil barks)
(horse neighing)
(seaplane droning)
(horse galloping)
(intense dramatic music)
(seaplane engine roars)
(horse galloping)
(seaplane engine roars)
(horse galloping) (intense dramatic music)
(seaplane droning)
(horse galloping) (intense dramatic music)
(seaplane engine roars)
(seaplane engine rattling)
(fuel sprinkling)
- We're losing fuel, we've gotta take her down.
(seaplane engine roars)
(intense dramatic music)
- See the pontoon?
- [Diana] Yes.
- Climb onto it. - What?
- Trust me. - I must be crazy.
(seaplane whirring) (intense dramatic music)
(bushes whooshing)
(seaplane whirring) (intense dramatic music)
(horse galloping)
(seaplane whirring)
- Who's flying the plane?
- I jammed the stick.
Now we don't have much time,
this clearing's not very long.
Get ready.
- Get ready?
(horse galloping) (triumphant music)
- You can't! - We have to.
(horse galloping) (seaplane whirring)
(Phantom laughs)
(seaplane whirring)
(horse gallops and neighs)
Okay, jump!
(seaplane whirring) (tense dramatic music)
(plane crashing) (explosion booming)
- I can't believe we just did that.
- Neither can I.
(truck rumbling) (gunfire pops)
(horse neighs)
(truck rattling)
- Swing around behind me.
(horse galloping) (intense dramatic music)
(bullets whooshing)
(gunfire pops)
(horses galloping)
(gunfire pops)
- What's the matter with you guys?
Can't you hit anything?
(truck door clanks) (thug screams)
(truck door thuds)
(gunfire pops)
Come on, step on it, faster!
(gunfire pops)
(horse galloping)
(truck crashes)
(bodies thud)
(intense dramatic music) (horse gallops)
Catch 'em, don't let 'em escape.
Go, go!
(horses galloping)
(water splashing)
(horse gallops)
(water splashing)
(horses galloping)
- [Diana] We can't outrun them doubled up like this.
- Don't worry, I got friends in these woods.
(horses galloping)
(gunfire pops)
(intense dramatic music)
(gunfire pops)
(thugs screaming) (bodies whooshing)
(Rope people laugh and cheer)
- How did you do that?
- My friends, the Rope People.
(Phantom speaks in foreign language)
(Rope People cheering)
(Phantom laughs)
- You okay?
- I just feel a little dizzy.
- Ah, it must be the humidity.
(bright triumphant music)
(horse cantering)
(bright triumphant music)
(waterfall roars)
(bright triumphant music)
(horse cantering)
(bright triumphant music)
(horse cantering)
(Devil huffing)
(footsteps thumping)
Wait here one second.
- Okay. - All right.
(mystical music)
(necklace jingles)
(gate squeaks)
(footsteps thumping)
- I, um, I wanna give you something to remember me by.
- Somehow I don't think that's going to be a problem.
- Well, you won't find these in New York.
(bright symphonic music)
- Black pearls, they're beautiful.
- They were a gift to one of my ancestors
by a grateful Arabian prince.
I want you to have them.
- Thank you.
- Oh, no, not the old pearl ploy again.
- That's what passes for humor in the jungle, Diana.
Captain Horton, Diana Palmer.
- Thank God you're all right, Diana.
How did you manage to get her away?
- Diana did all the work, actually.
- Not only is he mysterious, he's modest too.
- Old jungle saying, "Phantom is many men."
- No smoking in the Skull Cave.
- Sorry, forgot.
I received your uncle's wire, Diana.
What could be so important as to bring you all this way?
- Can you identify this symbol?
- You'd better have a look.
(suspenseful music)
- Well, somebody say something.
- You're mixed up with the Sengh Brotherhood, Diana.
- The what?
- Sengh Brotherhood, an ancient order of evil.
They started out as pirates.
Nowadays, there's no telling what they've become.
- Where did you get this?
- New York.
My uncle's newspaper
is investigating a man named Xander Drax.
He's crazy, he's power-mad.
- Captain, I want you to take her back.
Use every man at your disposal,
give her all the protection she needs.
- Of course. - Wait a minute, that's it?
You're just gonna send me away?
- I'm afraid so.
- I came here to do a job and that's what I'm gonna do.
There's a lot more I need to know.
- Goodbye.
- Wait a second.
- Diana, nobody argues with the Phantom and wins.
- Old jungle saying.
(bright merry music)
(ship horn blasting)
(traffic whooshing) (horn honking)
(loud dramatic music)
- Oh, baby.
Oh, it is beautiful.
- I used a little toothpaste on it.
It polished up so good.
- Toothpaste, really?
That's nice.
You know, I am in such a good mood right now,
I almost hate to mention this.
Ah, the happy homecoming,
kind of brings a tear to the eye, doesn't it?
What went wrong?
- Something you didn't count on.
- Oh, really?
And what was that?
- The Phantom.
- I thought that was just a superstition.
- Oh, no, he's real.
And he won't die.
I know I killed him once and he isn't dead.
- That doesn't make sense.
- Look, I brought this to prove it.
(buckle clicks)
See this hole?
That's where I stuck him with a 12-inch blade.
- You stabbed him in the back?
I've underestimated you, Quill.
- Right up to the hilt.
- Well, that should have done the trick all right.
- The Phantom helped Diana to escape.
I think he's in love with her.
- Oh really?
This is getting more interesting by the minute.
Why do you say that?
- Because he could have had me, but he picked her.
That could only be love.
- Or simply bad judgment.
- So what should we do about him?
- Do?
Nothing, this is New York City.
I'm not concerned with some jungle folk hero
half a world away.
(car door clicks)
(triumphant symphonic music)
- Here, keep the change. - Hey!
(car door clicks and thuds)
Not so fast, buddy-boy.
What is this?
This isn't real money.
- Yeah, you're right.
That's uh, Bengalla currency
- Coin of the realm would be appreciated.
- I'm afraid it's all I've got.
- It better not be.
- All right, you know, here.
Where is it?
These are opals.
And that's, that's a star sapphire.
Here, take all of them.
Don't worry, they're real.
And I'm sure they'll secure your services
for the rest of the day.
So wait here, okay?
- You're kidding, right?
- I never kid.
(traffic whooshing)
(dramatic symphonic music)
- God is dead.
And darkness rules the earth.
America's in financial ruin.
Europe and Asia are on the brink of self-annihilation.
Chaos reigns.
But like I've always said, there is opportunity in chaos.
And so my brothers, I give you the Skull of Touganda.
This skull is one of three.
When all three skulls are united,
they will produce a force more powerful
than any army on earth.
- But you, you've only got the one.
- Legend has it, that if the skulls are separated,
two of the skulls will point the way to the third.
- Like I said, you only got that one.
- Raymond, Raymond, Ray, Ray.
I know the location of the second skull, okay?
The symbol of the Sengh Brotherhood.
We shall succeed where they have failed.
The skulls will be ours
and all of the power that comes with them.
(projector clicks)
(attendees clap)
- Count me out, this is wrong.
Skulls, forces of darkness, this isn't right.
I was an altar boy for the love of Pete at St. Timothy's.
And so was you, Charlie.
This isn't right, we wasn't raised this way.
- Sit down, Ray.
- Hey, the only power I believe in
comes out of the barrel of a gun,
not from some jungle souvenirs.
Come on, Charlie.
- You're on your own, Ray.
(suspenseful music)
- What?
- You're on your own.
(suspenseful music)
- Fine, suit yourself.
But I'm gone, Drax.
And I'm taking my entire syndicate with me.
- Okay, Ray, that's how you feel about it.
(spear thuds)
(Ray moans)
Ow, whoa, my bursitis is really flaring up again.
Charlie, you're the new boss of bosses.
Think you can handle it?
- I've been waiting all my life.
- Good man.
- The plans have been set for tonight to go in
and get the item while the building is closed.
- Oh no, I can't wait that long.
This is too exciting.
We go in now.
- No, in the middle of the afternoon?
- Yes, yes.
And I would appreciate it
if you would keep your policeman away until I am done!
(body thuds)
(horn honking)
- Hey, there, found you.
Page-one girl back from a big escapade in the jungle.
- Jimmy, what are you doing here?
- Listen, I was in town on business
and I thought- - Business?
- I was having some suits made.
- That's not business.
- Well, it is for the guy making this suits.
Say, why do you have to be so difficult?
I thought we could grab an early dinner and catch a show.
- Can I take a rain check?
- Sure.
Add it to your collection.
- Diana, I have a surprise for you.
Come into my office.
(telephone ringing)
- Kit. - Hello, Diana.
It's been a while, hasn't it?
- A few years at least. - Um, six to be exact.
I, I read about what happened, are you all right?
- Oh, I'm fine.
It started out bad, but all turned out okay.
- By the by, Jimmy Wells.
- Oh yeah, Kit Walker. - So tell me, Kit,
where do you know our Diana from?
- Oh, we were friends at college.
- I see.
- So are you living here in New York?
- No, just passing through.
Catching up on old times with Uncle Dave here.
- Yes, trading information about Xander Drax.
- What do you know about Drax?
- Drax has come into possession
of a rare artifact connected to the Sengh Brotherhood.
Tell her.
- It's an ancient silver skull
with precious stones where the eye should be.
- Oh, yeah. I've seen something like that before.
- You have?
- Yes, but I don't think it was silver.
I think it was green.
Green.
Jade perhaps.
(suspenseful music)
I, I mean, wow, where did you see it?
- Let me see, it was my 12th birthday party.
Mom and Dad had rented a big room.
Now I remember.
The Museum of World History.
- Yes, sir, at your service. - Well, you're in a good mood.
- You bet I am.
While you're inside, I had those stones appraised and,
and you can call me Al.
- Kit Walker. - I'm going with you.
- Diana. - Uh, where to now, sir?
- Museum of World History. - Well, you heard the lady.
(car door thuds)
(car rumbling)
I gotta say it, Diana, you look great.
You've not changed a bit.
- You just vanished, Kit. - 1, I guess I did.
- Not a word, not a letter.
Not even a phone call.
- I know. - Why?
- I had to go home.
My father died rather suddenly.
- I'm sorry, but I never heard from you again.
- I had to take over the family business.
Look, I, I know it's hard to explain,
but I, I've thought a lot about you since then, Diana.
- I've thought about you too, Kit.
Then I stopped and I went on with my life.
(inquisitive music)
(tense music)
- They got it all wrong.
It's wrong century, it's wrong hemisphere.
It's wrong culture.
This skull hasn't been lost, it's just been misplaced.
- What's your interest with Drax and these skulls?
- I represent their true owners.
I wanna see them returned.
Drax wants them for himself.
Can't let Drex get his hands on the skull.
I've gotta get it out of here.
- Wait, Uncle Dave knows an important member
on the board of directors.
It may take a day or two...
(glass shatters)
Or we could just break the glass.
(footsteps thud)
(pistol cocks)
- I'll take that, thank you.
(tense music) (people chattering)
Museum security, everything's under control.
Listen, folks, free cake and sandwiches
are being served in the Hall of Nature.
Bring the little ones, don't miss out.
Thank you, bye-bye.
Who are you?
- Just a fellow collector like yourself, Mr. Drax.
(tense music)
- Drax, what's with the bag?
(bag thuds)
(smoke sizzling)
(suspenseful music)
- Something's happening.
(suspenseful music rises)
(skulls clash)
(thunder roars)
- This is it.
It's happening right here and now!
Unbelievable.
It's beautiful, it's magnificent!
Show me the power!
(glass shattering)
Yes!
(glass shattering)
Amazing, amazing!
(glass shattering)
I love this!
(intense music)
(laser swishing)
(intense music)
Wow.
(intense music stops)
(gentle music)
(shoes clacking)
The skulls have spoken.
(gentle tense music)
(shoes clacking)
(car door clicks)
(car door thuds)
(car engine cranking)
(car door thuds)
(car engine revs)
(horn honking) (car whooshing)
(door clicks)
(shoes clacking)
(gentle tense music)
All right, what's your name?
And why do you want that skull so badly?
- Kit Walker. - Ah, and who is Kit Walker?
- I am. - And what about the skull?
- That'll go well with my drapes.
- Oh, cute, you're very cute, Mr. Walker.
Fortunately, I have a cure for that.
(fist thuds) (Kit groans)
- Stop it, don't hurt him.
- Why Diana, are you sweet on Mr. Walker?
I thought you were a true love was swinging
on a jungle vine somewhere.
- How did you, I mean, who told you that?
- I did.
- Sala's got all the latest gossip on two continents.
- Deny it, he's in love with you and you're nuts about him.
From the moment he came flying down that laundry chute,
you were hooked.
- [Drax] Kismet in the jungle.
- You're despicable, you're just jealous.
(hand thwacks)
(Diana grunts)
- Now I'm one up on you.
- Ladies?
Quill, would you please show Mr. Walker
up to the observation deck and make him talk?
(foreboding music)
- I claim the body, when you're down.
- Now,
once I check these coordinates
against this navigational chart,
we will know the location of the third skull.
(tense music) (shoes clacking)
(kick thuds) (thugs yelp)
(both groaning)
(body thuds)
(intense music)
(door latch clicks)
(door slams)
- Get up, follow me.
(gentle tense music)
(shoes clacking)
(door squeaks and slams)
(suspenseful music)
(legs thud) (both yelling)
(gunfire pops)
(tense dramatic music)
(door slams)
(suspenseful music)
(elevator machine rattling and whirring)
(elevator trapdoor clicks and squeaks)
(tense music)
- [Drax] Well, I'll be damned.
- What?
- The Devil's Vortex.
We are going to the Devil's Vortex.
- Are you sure?
Check again, maybe you made a mistake.
- No, no, no, no mistake.
(buzzer beeps)
- Isn't that the place
where all those ships keep, uh, disappearing?
- Yes, incredible, isn't it?
There must be an island there.
An uncharted island.
- Yeah, well, maybe my brother
was right about all that stuff.
- Nonsense.
Come on, Charlie.
This is the chance of a lifetime.
Where's your spirit of adventure?
(intense dramatic music)
(Phantom scraping)
(intense dramatic music)
(elevator dings)
- Oh, Mr. Drax, I made all the arrangements.
You're getting a full police escort.
- Excellent, have you heard the exciting news?
- No.
- We're going to the Devil's Vortex.
- Drax, Phantom's in the building.
- What? - I saw him with my own eyes
- Alert your officers.
Tell them there's a mad man on the loose.
He's armed and extremely dangerous.
Shoot on site.
- Don't worry about a thing.
I'll take care of it.
- What about the girl? - Bring her.
She's our Phantom insurance.
(intense dramatic music)
- Get me security.
(intense dramatic music)
(elevator whirring)
(guns clicking)
(Phantom scraping)
(friction sparking)
(intense dramatic music)
(elevator dings)
(suspenseful music)
(shoes clacking)
(friction sparking)

(passerby gasps)
(intense dramatic music)
(police siren wailing) (vehicles revving)
(intense dramatic music)
- Look out.
(intense dramatic music)
- [Pedestrian] What's going on there?
(car door clicks and thuds)
- Follow that car. - Oh, God!
Take my money, but don't hurt me.
- Al, take it easy.
I'm a friend of Kit Walker's.
I need your help, now.
(car door clicks)
(intense music)
- Hey, hey you!
Come back here.
(whistle trilling)
(footsteps thudding) (intense dramatic music)
(horse neighs and gallops)

(bushes crunching)
(police siren wailing) (motorcycle sputtering)
- What's back there? - The zoo.
(motorcycles revving)
(police siren wailing)
- Yeah, this is where he would've entered.
(tiger roars) (both scream)
(tiger roars) (elephant trumpeting)
- He sure as hell isn't around here, let's keep looking.
(elephant trumpeting)
(tiger growls)
(gentle tense music)
- Good girl.
(tense music)
(tiger growls)
- Stop, hold it right there.
(gunfire pops)
(intense music)
(leaves rustling)
(car tires screeching)
- Get in.
(car door clicks and thuds)
(car engine revving)
(tense dramatic music)
(police siren wailing)
- Forget him, he is not coming.
- He's probably dead by now.
- What is wrong with you?
Why are you so mean?
Don't you care about anything?
- Like what?
- You figure it out.
- All right, all right, everybody just shut up.
Step on it, Quill.
(car rumbling)
(car whooshing)
- Drax is headed for the docks.
I picked it up on my police band.
Thought you'd wanna know.
- Thanks, step on it, huh?
- It's the bottom of the ninth
and you're two skulls behind.
- Dad, a man named Quill has a gun belt
just like the one I wear, is it yours?
- Yeah.
He said he could show me the stronghold
of the Sengh Brotherhood.
And he took me to a place deep in the jungle.
- What happened?
- He stabbed me in the back, literally.
So sue me, I'm a lousy judge of character.
- Maybe I can get that gun belt back for you.
- If you haven't lost them already.
- Don't worry, I'll catch 'em, I have to.
There's a woman involved.
- Well, saints be praised, it's about time.
So tell him to step on it.
- Can you go any faster?
- You talking to me now?
- Yes, can you pick it up?
- Sure, hold onto your hat, or whatever.
(car whooshing)
(suspenseful music)
(car tires screeching)
(car door clicks)
- Looks like I got a plane to catch.
(seaplane whirring)
Thanks.
- Hey, pal, give my best to Mr. Walker, huh?
(seaplane whirring)
(water splashing)
(seaplane whirring)
I love New York.
(seaplane rumbling) (intense dramatic music)
(wind howling)
(intense dramatic music)
(Quill burps)
(intense dramatic music)
(seaplane rumbling)
(intense dramatic music)
- We're getting close, we're almost there.
(seaplane engine roaring)
- What's that? - Where?
- 11 o'clock.
(intense dramatic music)
- That's it.
There is an island, take her down.
(wind howling) (seaplane engine roaring)
(wind howling)
(Phantom moans)
(wind howling)
(seaplane engine roaring)
(wind howling)
(intense dramatic music)
(seaplane whirring)
(seaplane engine hissing)
(intense dramatic music)
(water splashes)
(seaplane whirring)
(suspenseful music)
(water sloshing)
(gentle suspenseful music)
(water sloshing)
(gentle music)
(bats screeching)
(gentle mystical music)
- We are so close now, I can feel it.
History is about to be made
and you're all a part of it.
An unequal part, of course,
but an important part nonetheless.
(suspenseful music)
(pirates whooshing)
(Sala screaming)
(rats squeaking)
(suspenseful music)
- This one is mine. - In your dreams.
(knee thuds) (pirate groans)
- Oh, take it easy.
My brothers, stay calm.
- Brothers, why do you call us brothers?
- We too are members of the same brotherhood.
- Nice going.
- Come with us.
(suspenseful music)
- I think us girls should stick together.
(dramatic symphonic music)
(portcullis rattling)
(suspenseful music)
(shoes clacking)
(suspenseful music)
- Now let me see.
When was the last time we had visitors here
below the ocean surface,
deep in the bowels of this uncharted volcanic island?
Never, congratulations.
You pathetic doomed fools are the first.
Who are these people?
- My name is Xander Drax. - What?
- X-A-N-D-E-R-D-R-A-X.
Xander Drax, begins and ends with the letter X,
from New York City.
And you, sir?
As long as we're making polite introductions
and chitchat, who might you be?
- He is the great Kabai Sengh,
leader of the Sengh Brotherhood.
- Direct descendant of the evil Kabai Sengh.
First leader of the Sengh Brotherhood.
You're a long way from New York City.
What brings you to this place?
- These brought me here.
The skulls of Touganda.
- And what do you know of such matter?
- Well, I know all about these skulls
and the power they contain, once all three are united.
The two I hold and the one you have there.
(intense dramatic music)
Look, oh, great one.
You know, I really wasn't in the market for a partner,
but it seems to me
that we have a mutually beneficial situation here.
Think of it this way.
You represent the old guard
of grizzled scallywags and Peg-leg Petes,
while I stand for the new order of things,
modern and up-to-date,
just the man to carry our calls into the 20th century.
- Silence!
You have no bargaining power with me, Mr. New York City.
I could kill you and feed your pretty pink ass
to the sharks.
Besides, you don't have the fourth skull.
- Fourth skull, what fourth skull?
What are you talking about?
There is no fourth skull.
- The fourth skull controls the power of the other three.
And without it, you've wasted your time
and your meaningless New York lives.
(swords swishing)
- Wait a minute, wait just a minute.
If anything happens to us, others will come looking.
They know where we are.
You'll have an entire army down your throats.
Now do you really want that to happen?
- No, no, no, no, no, that's bullshit!
Nobody knows where we are.
- What are you doing?
- Shut up, spirit of adventure, my ass.
It's every man for himself.
Okay, Kabie, you get me out of here
or else you really gonna sleep with the fishes.
Now what are you gonna say about that?
(Kabai speaks in foreign language)
- In the bowl, what's that supposed to mean?
- Just ancient pirate talk for fire the cannon.
- Huh?
(cannon blasts) (body thuds)
(Sala screams) (body splashes)
(footsteps tapping)
- Great Kabai Sengh, I am Quill,
a loyal follower and soldier.
Look, I once killed the Phantom.
- Join the club.
Many of us have killed him over the years.
But he keeps coming back.
- Hey, I can see this Phantom thing really strikes a nerve.
In that case, you are gonna love this.
She's his girlfriend.
- Bring her here!
(gentle tense music)
- Think of the opportunities this presents Kabai Sengh.
Ransom, bait, revenge.
(suspenseful music)
- Phantom has good taste.
- Good, good, personal pleasure.
I overlooked that one.
So what do you say, Kabai Sengh?
The girl for the skull and I'm out of your hair.
- You pirates need to get out more.
- Kabai Sengh!
- Phantom!
(Phantom whooshing)
(kick thuds) (Kabai groans)
(blade swishing)
- Let's get him!
(kick thuds)
(gunfire pops)
(kick thuds)
(gunfire pops)
(blade swishing)
(swords clanging)
(fist thuds) (pirate groans)
(gunfire pops)
(thug screams) (fist thuds)
(head thuds) (kick thuds)
(sword swishing)
(knee thuds) (pirate groans)
(swords clanging)
(blows thudding)
- Run away.
(blow thuds)
(spear squelching) (pirate screams)
- Ghost Who Walks.
I'll cut you off at your knee!
(sword clanging) (intense music)
(body thuds)
(skull clattering)
(fist thuds)
(swords clanging)
(fist thuds)
(swords clanging)
(sword piercing)
(kick thuds)
(swords clanging)
(knife swishes and clatters)
(kick thuds)
(swords clanging)
(suspenseful music)
(shark splashing)
You're not immortal.
I know your secrets, Phantom.
(body splashing)
(Kabai screams)
- Take them to your grave, Kabai Sengh.
(water bubbling)
(swords swishing)
(guns clicking)
- Sala, cut the rope.
(sword swishes) (rope snaps)
(net thuds) (pirates moaning)
(portcullis slams)
(suspenseful music)
(shoes clacking)
- Torpedoes.
- [Diana] This explains all those missing ships.
- You and Sala can escape in here.
I'll shoot you to the surface.
- Those are like warheads.
If we hit anything, we're fish food.
- You won't hit anything.
I'll use the periscopes to make sure the path is clear.
Come on.
- What about you, how are you gonna get out?
- I'll be right behind you.
(escape hatch thuds)
(lock clicks)
(rotator squeaks)
(suspenseful music)
(footsteps clanking)
(tense dramatic music)
(lever switch squeaks)
(platform whirring)
(lever switch squeaks)
(gate whirring)
(blow thuds) (Phantom groans)
(skull clatters)
(intense dramatic music)
(knife swishing)
(intense dramatic music)
- At last.
- I already killed you.
(knife swishing)
(Quill screams)
- No, you killed my father.
(fist thuds)
(machine whirring)
(water splashing)
(skulls whooshing)
(skulls clashing)
(fist thuds)
(lever switch creaks)
(water glugging)
(blow thuds)
(submarine whirring)
- You've got something that belongs to me.
(gun belt clicks)
(submarine whirring)
(laser buzzing)
- Drax, over here!
- What is it?
(droning music)
These skulls are more powerful than I ever imagined.
I've harnessed the energy of the sun.
Who needs a fourth skull?
- 1 do, and I know where it is.
(chains rattling)
I've worn it all my life for protection.
I never really understood what that meant until right now.
(chains rattling)
- Ha, what a cheap jungle trick.
(laser swishing)
(chain rattling)
(laser buzzing)
(Drax grunting)
(laser buzzing)
Unbelievable!
(Drax laughs maniacally) (fire crackling)
(chains rattling)
(explosion booms)
(pirates yelling)
(explosion booms)
(intense dramatic music)
(submarine sloshing)
(triumphant music)
(escape hatch clicks)
- End of the line. - We made it.
(explosion booms)
(intense dramatic music)
(explosion booms)
(intense dramatic music)
- It all began 400 years ago
when the small boy saw his father savagely murdered
by pirates of the Sengh Brotherhood.
That same boy sworn oath of vengeance to fight piracy,
greed and cruelty in all its forms.
And he became the first Phantom.
I'm his descendant, Diana, sworn to carry out his oath.
The mantle of the Phantom was passed on from father to son.
20 Phantoms came before me, but no one knew that.
They all thought he was the same Phantom.
They all thought he was immortal.
That's why they called him the Ghost Who Walks.
Now, I'm not immortal, Diana.
I was born right here in this cave and educated in America.
When my father was killed, I came back to take his place.
(pensive music)
- And one day your own son will take your place.
(inspiring music)
- Yes.
(Guran clears throat)
- The plane for Ms. Palmer is waiting, Ghost Who Walks.
- Thank you, Guran.
- Does Guran know the truth?
- Oh sure, he just likes to call me that.
(gentle music)
