She does this every night. It never stops.
Just the same snoring over and over.
Just need five more minutes of sleep.
Must hide the... Hide what? The nug?
Wood spring.
Academy archive.
Okay, that's new.
Learning is more art than science.
I think Queenie knows more than what she's letting on.
You want to hide? What's Spring Academy archive?
It's got no clue written all over it.
Why don't you just ask her what it means?
Because she was talking in her sleep. And if we let her know we know, then
she'll know we know. And then she'll stop sleep talking, you know?
Could you imagine if we found the nug?
We'd be so famous if we did.
Enrich us.
100 ,000 bucks reward.
Split it four ways.
There's still plenty of money left over for Mum's penguin.
I love you, kids.
Can't wait to get home.
That is so sweet.
At least we know she doesn't have the nug. She literally announced she was
to find it. Speaking of, are they being way less katinkatong hectic this
morning, or is it just me?
Guess they've got their eyes on a different prize now, eh? A nug -shaped
And so do we.
Whoa, the Woodspring Academy Archives.
They say that behind these archive doors, there are over 100 years of
Academy secrets and wondrous curiosities.
Like programs from every school musical ever staged here. Whoa.
Hey, guys, I was thinking, since we're like a proper crew now, we should give
ourselves a proper name, like the Kangaroo Gang.
Oh, the Joeys. Yeah. The Joeys? Rad.
Bring it in.
Joeys!
No students allowed.
No students.
Twinkle, knuckle.
At least she's done with the onions.
There's got to be another way in.
But how?
Penelope, help me out.
Penelope! Sorry.
I was just thinking about my future West Bend solo debut in the prequel to the
musical Cat.
I call it Cat.
All I need is one big break.
Anyone looking for one big break? This is your lucky day. I would like you all
to give a big Woodspring Academy welcome to our new drama teacher.
Drama?
And he would like to make a very special announcement.
Over to you, Jojo.
Encore? If you insist, Flimsy.
Thank you.
Now, I'm not going to beat around the bush. We need to get straight down to
business. Show business, that is. We are going to celebrate the centenary of the
famous Nug's arrival with a new theatrical production entitled The Great
Remarkable Mystery of the Lucky Nug.
To be performed at Wood Springs' premier week -long festival event, Nugfest.
It will tell the electrifying tale of the famous nugs discovery by young Mavis
Katinka Tonk 100 years ago.
Right through to its inexplicable theft by the infamous kangaroo gang 73 years
later to a young Mayor Katie's close call with one of the gang members.
The lucky actor cast as young Mayor Katie will gain unlimited access to the
Academy archives to do the necessary research needed to bring this iconic
character to life. I want confidence.
I want transformation.
I want brilliance.
Nug. Nug. Nug. Nug. Nug. Nug. Nug. Nug.
I have some more clients.
Do any of them get to eat sugar?
How do I weigh fizzy twins?
Coming through.
Scoops!
What party are you going to go for?
Well, I'm going to play the 14 -year -old version of my mother, young Mary
Katie, obviously.
But I could easily play Mavis, my great -grandmother, too.
Gosh, you should totally go for both.
What? I can't do that. That would be outrageous.
was auditioning for the Nog.
That's a brilliant idea.
I could help with special effects.
We could make the costume light up.
You're going for young Mary Katie, aren't you?
You have to.
You're the best actor in the entire school.
I've been waiting for this my entire life.
A role like young Mary Katie is a thespian's dream.
And I get stage fright.
What if I can't do it? What if I'm not prepared?
What if I go so deep into the role that I wake up one morning wearing mare
robes, kissing babies and trapped in an imaginary wood spring for the rest of my
natural life?
Okay, what's going on?
Well, the enormity of the situation has created an existential crisis in
Penelope. Too much talking. We need emergency research.
Dad. Welcome back to Eye on Wood Spring. I'm Skip Scoopworthy and I'm here with
14 -year -old Katie Katinkatong who just had a brush with the infamous...
kangaroo gang. Talk us through it. Thank you. Well, I was going on my early
morning jog before school and this guy went past on a motorbike and he had the
nug under his arm.
Our nug.
He went that way.
1999. What a year for fashion that was.
And you can find Mayor Katie's headband, backpack and fancy pants tracksuit on
display at the Woodspring Planetarium.
Reopening. Just in time for Nugfest.
Remember con man at number two?
Preparation is everything.
What better preparation than this?
I have to admit, it is good research. You have to audition for young Mercady.
one could do it as good as you.
But I don't even look like her.
Awful butt doesn't look like a space rock.
Do you think that's going to stop him?
I don't know.
If you don't audition for Young Mayor Katie, Emilia's going to get the role.
Then get every other role in every play in this town for the next 50 years.
Do you want that to happen? Do you?
Auditionees to the gym. I repeat, auditionees to the gym.
Oh, boy.
Come on, Penn. I can already see it.
Young Mayor Katie, played by Penelope Pye.
You can do this.
I know you can.
We have various parts up for grabs today. Young Mayor Katie, a young Mavis,
various far less important gang members.
First up, Nesbitt Katingatong.
When you're ready, Nesbitt.
The thing is, Teach, bwada bing, bwada boom, my name's various far less
important gang character, and I saw it all.
Bwada bing, bwada boom.
Hmm.
Interesting approach.
Next.
Hit it.
My name is Katie K. And he went that -a -way. My name is Katie K.
Right.
Next.
Offer birds to me, auditioning for the role of the Nug. And Kai Delaney in
technical support.
Now this is what I'm looking for.
Artistry. Integrity. Good.
Very good.
Next up, Amelia Katingatong.
It's E. Amelia Katingatong.
As in daughter of Mayor Katie Katingatong. Great -granddaughter of
Katingatong. and soon to be playing both roles in this school play.
So glad to be working with you.
And here we see the rare Penelope Pye at home amongst the footlights and born to
play young Mary Katie.
All she needs is to spread her wings and flap.
Caw -caw! Caw -caw!
Penelope Pye?
Anytime you're ready, Penelope.
What happened?
I froze.
My big break is now my big broken.
I know some of you may have been nervous today.
But as Macbeth says in the play Macbeth, there's always tomorrow and tomorrow
and tomorrow.
So come back again tomorrow for one more shot.
There's another chance tomorrow.
It's no use. I'm just not cut out for a life of nurse putty and footlights.
Franklin, you must have seen it.
I told you, I left it right there. Come on, Frankie, be frank.
I don't know what happened to it.
Did you lose something, Dad?
My tea.
I was sure it was here a minute ago.
Dad, what's going on?
So come on, darlings. I want to hear about your day. Over a delicious treat
a fresh cup of something fabulous.
play. Oh, how wonderful.
What's it about?
Prince of Denmark, the Iceman cometh thing.
Neither, actually.
It's about the kangaroo gang and the theft of the nug.
Another one for the memoirs.
The T4s! How did you know they're all my favourites?
Lucky guess.
Lucky grandson!
With all references to my former life of crime aside, how did the auditions go?
Badly. Oh, really?
We get another shot tomorrow, but everyone's got to lift their game. Oh,
shot? That's even more wonderful.
Can I help? How are you both feeling? Are you nervous?
We're not.
But Penelope's worried about disappearing into an interdimensional
1999 if she gets the lead role.
Oh, that's just the jitters. Pure and simple.
We've got to find a way to get that role for her. It has to happen.
Well, it's con man with number three.
Conning is more art than science.
Okay.
Acting is nothing if not a con, a disguise, a transformation from within.
No? I suppose so.
Yes. I guess.
Hmm.
I really shouldn't do this.
Your father will be most miffed.
If you can help us, don't leave us hanging. We have to help Penelope get
role.
I... I could teach you a little trick.
Something I picked up on my travels.
It's as easy as A, B, C.
Welcome back to the trick space.
The ability to disguise yourself is paramount to any successful caper.
Or performance, for that matter.
A. You need an accessory, an object or an item of clothing that allows your
disguise to take hold.
B, your body must meet the disguise.
From a slouch to a bounce to a wriggle to a limp, physicality gives it weight.
And C, cadence, the tone of your voice will feel the
illusion.
You mean like this?
Darling. Enough with the tricks, Mother. The children need to study.
Was that actual magic?
Because I felt like I was Dad.
Penelope just had to find her own ABC.
And there is. It's in the eye of the beholder.
The right ABC, huh?
I smell a caper brewing.
Tell me why we're here.
You remember the footage of your young mate Katie, right?
Not this again.
What was she wearing?
A headband, backpack and fancy pinch track suit. Queenie said the perfect
disguise is as easy as ABC.
If you start with the right accessory, you can use your body and voice to
transform, convincing anyone that you're the real deal.
Acting when no one even knows you're acting?
Whoa, that is so method acting.
You just need to start with the right accessory to unlock your inner whoever
is you're trying to be.
You mean like a headband?
Look inside.
What? No, in the window.
That news report was right.
Young Mayor Katie's original pink headband, electric blue backpack and
pants tracksuit from 1999.
The perfect accessories.
Bingo dingo.
That's more Katinga Tonk.
How many scary Katinga Tonks are there?
We need to distract her so she can get in there and get that headband.
But how are we going to do that? There's got to be a way.
Bingo, dingo.
Katinga Tonk accessories.
It's more art than science.
Be one with the fringe.
Well, how do I look?
I'll distract the scary extinct dog. You get the headband.
Hide.
We're just borrowing it.
Go on, try it on.
You're quite the natural, Amelia.
Accessory, body, cadence.
It's more art than science.
Let it flow through you.
spring, I will always keep a piece of your space link in my heart, for I know
one day the nub will be found once more.
He went that way.
I went way better.
My transformation was generational.
Penelope, what you just did moved me So deeply.
You must play young Mayor Katie and young Mavis too.
For real? What?
Emilia will be understudy and the rest of you will be non -speaking gang
members, nugs and technical support.
Rehearsal starts tomorrow, people.
Penelope, the lead roles and the archives are yours.
The key.
Now go.
Of course you did.
You are going to be a wonderful me, sweetie.
Just wonderful.
Okay, shush now. We're going home. Mummy needs to work.
Sleep well.
You were so awesome.
We couldn't even recognise you. You were the best.
Wasn't she the best, Kai? The best? Like you say, it's more art than science.
Time to find out what Queenie's hiding in the archives.
All the school musical programs from 1954 to 1993.
The very first Woodspin Academy principal turnout clippings.
And collection of thick clippings.
Which is nowhere near as good as these programs.
Keep looking, guys. Anything from 1999.
There's got to be something in here. From when the Nug was stolen.
What about this?
1999?
Look which ding I just found. Bingo!
actually looking for?
Oh, got it.
Horsebrain Academy's birthday, 1999.
It was created exactly a week after the nug was stolen.
Bigger event equals bigger distraction.
Distraction for what?
Groovy bass must be reinforced.
Hidden hatch to be seamless?
We don't want it rolling?
Why would anyone build a trophy with a hidden compartment?
Follow -up question.
Might this explain why Queenie was sleep -talking about something hidden in the
Academy Archives?
Queenie's def not telling us everything.
Indeed. I think we may have just found where the nugs been hiding.
