Mina: Previously on Ruby and the Well.
Tom: Every wellkeeper gets one wish.
- I wish this would never end.
Mina: You make your wish, you grant the wish,
and the well lives on forever.
Makela: Is there any family history
that you could share with me?
- I want to help you.
I really do.
I... but now's just not a good time.
- Are you thinking of that exchange program, then?
- I would love to do the exchange program,
but I can't right now.
Makela: I did think you might need a little nudge.
?
Ruby: Disenchanted?
Finn: Went on the fritz.
Garbled messages,
jumbled visions,
and incomplete wishes.
Just imagine you had a magic well
that gave you purpose
so you could actually grant wishes.
Then it got exposed
and slowly went bonkers on you.
Tragic.
- Yeah, tragic.
[whoosh]
Please, please be okay.
Okay?
?
[crow cawing]
?
Please, I'm, I'm worried about you.
?
Do something, anything.
- Ruby?
I got your text.
Ruby: Oh, hi, Sam.
- You okay?
- Yeah, never better.
- Any sign of, uh... you know?
- You mean my wish?
My heartfelt "I wish this would never end" wish?
My desperate plea that all this wish-giving magic
would never end?
The one thing that's more important to me
than anything right now?
[takes deep breath]
No.
- How about any wish?
- Nothing.
And every day, it's a little bit worse.
I, I mean, I've never seen a magic well
shut down before,
but if I had to guess, take a look.
[deep breath]
Sam: Ruby, I-I can't.
- Right, I forgot that you can't see this.
Just trust me, it doesn't look good.
[crow cawing]
- Let's go.
Maybe things will look up tomorrow.
- Hope so.
Up is the only direction left.
?
Daniel: Really, there's nothing more to say.
Makela: [on phone] Daniel, please.
How can I change your mind?
Daniel: I just can't help you, Makela.
Sorry.
Okay?
Makela: [on phone] Okay.
Daniel: Bye now.
Makela: [on phone] Bye.
- Mrs. Rivers-Snyder again?
- Yeah, she's pretty great at her job.
AKA relentless.
- We need her to back off for good.
- I'm aware of that.
But she's aware of her pretty serious deadline.
- Not our problem.
?
[magical tinkling]
No, please don't stop!
[whoosh]
Please, oh, please, oh, please, oh, please,
oh, please, oh, please, oh, please.
[deep rumbling]
[panting]
Come on.
[well rumbling]
Man 1: [echoing] I wish...
Ruby: I wish what?
[well rumbling]
Come on!
[rumbling stops]
[sighs]
?
That's it?
Two words?
At least it's a wish, even if it's not mine.
?
[theme music]
?
?
- Hey, hold on.
Let me rearrange here.
- Uthe background.gnize
Where are you?
- Travelremember?the folks,
Top secret holiday.
Exactly where,
I'm not at liberty to say.
- Right.
I, uh, have a question
for the, uh, well expert.
a keeper could,y
I don't know,
uthem a particular wishe
ahead of the others?
got into sacred wells,
of high-level questions.
Ruby: [sighs]
Oh, you know me.
I love my puzzles.
I'm like a dog with a bone.
[growls]
[chuckles nervously]
FinnI've ever heard,rything
the answer is no.
Thwhen it's time.wish
No sooner, no later.
- [dejectedly] I see.
So I guess the only way
a particular wish moved up
is to gahead of ithing else
as fast as they can.
[sighs]
Finn: Yeah, listen, Ruby,
you look...
frazzled, maybe.say
Are you okay?
- Liright now. a lot
If onthen I...re here
- You what?
?
- I'm not at liberty to say.
Gotta go.
[thunk]
?
[metallic clatter]
- Ta-da!
Okay, you can open your eyes now.
I thought while we're waiting for Ruby,
we could open this together.
- What is this?
Who wrote my name with a backwards S?
Common mistake among six-year-olds.
- Is this our time capsule?
Sealed and put away ten years ago,
and now ready for its comeback.
Sam: [laughs]
No way, it's my favorite rock.
Make that my ten favorite rocks.
- I was so sure these 2014 sunglasses
would be valuable antiques by now.
- Our dream pacts.
[laughs]
Three things we hoped would come true
by the time we were 16.
Mina: Even then, we were all about wishes.
- And I totally nailed mine.
Basketball, guitar,
and I'm tall enough to reach the freezer.
- Good for you.
Nice!
Okay, let's see if I got any of mine.
I wanna travel the world, have a street named after me,
and have my... first kiss.
Zero out of three.
- It's no biggie.
You're not done being 16 yet.
- Yeah, well, I don't see Paris or Broadway
or the National Redwood Forest
anywhere in my near future,
let alone the other stuff.
[sliding door rumbling]
Ruby: [grunts]
Okay!
Let's do this.
- You got something.
Ruby: Yes, soooort of.
- Well, is it a wish or isn't it?
- You decide.
I-it was "I wish."
- And?
Ruby: That's it.
A garbled voice saying two words
that are in every wish.
- Clues?
Ruby: Nothing.
Well, unless you wanna count leftovers.
- The video.
You and Hannah at the well.
Already appeared in two wishes,
but never actually used.
Ruby: Which means maybe it's time.
Mina: Okay, so we know there is a wish,
but we don't know who made it or what it is?
Ruby: Yeah.
But, uh, we have to grant it.
You know, clear the way for my wish
once and for all.
- 'Kay.
So, how do we grant this wish
without even knowing what it is?
Ruby: I guess by... keeping our ears open
for anyone with an un-granted wish?
- Well, this could be tough.
I mean, what are the odds of overhearing even one wish?
- [sighs]
[tap]
Sam: They're everywhere.
Like, item one.
Okay, I heard Lucy LaFontaine,
lovable florist,
made one about Amanda "The Wolf" Wilczek,
the realtor on a mission.
She said, "There's been bad blood between us
"for years.
I wish I knew how to forgive her."
- Well, maybe that's it.
Sam: Except that it's already granted.
So, Amanda's colleague, Brian, intervened.
Sent them both bouquets
as if they were from each other.
Broke the ice,
cue the big tearful apologies,
and now they're best buds.
- Oh.
Well, I heard that Gabe wished
that he could go to art school,
not pre-med like his dad wanted.
- Great, let's get on it.
Ruby: Yeah, um, except no.
He did a portrait of his dad, he loved it,
and now we can expect Gabe to graduate
the new Academy of Arts class of 2028.
- Please.
Mina, you're our last hope.
Give us a wish to grant.
- Okay.
Ooh, I know.
My dearest aunt, the new Mrs. Tessa Evers--
what a wedding--
puked behind a shrub yesterday.
- Oh.
Sam: What, she's wishing for a clean sweater?
Ruby: Uh, no, Sam, is she pregnant?
- Yes.
And my mom heard her say,
"I'm so thrilled, but so overwhelmed,
I wish I knew what to do."
- So maybe that--
Sam: No.
It all makes sense now.
My mom was on the phone with Tessa all morning.
Promised to show her exactly what to do.
I had no idea what they were talking about
until now.
- So many wishes.
- But none to solve.
- Which means the real one's still out there.
[phone dings]
[water babbling, people chattering]
- Seb?
- Yuh-huh.
?
Sam: Whoa, tiger.
[laughs]
Watch where you're going.
Careful.
- Thanks.
Um... we should probably get back to the wish.
?
Yeah, I know.
Daniel: I figured you'd get it.
I'm glad I got a hold of you,
what, with the time difference.
Well, sure, I'd love to clear the air,
but it could go sideways.
And there could be a lot of hurt feelings.
[birds chirping]
Exactly.
But still, I...
[sighs]
I wish I could just tell her.
[magical music]
[whoosh]
Man 1: [echoing] I wish...
Daniel: I'll figure it out.
Talk to you soon.
- You're the wisher?
[door clicks shut]
Dad!
Dad!
[car door clicks shut]
[engine rumbles away]
Sam: Look, that's us.
Cool, right?
Mina: Yes, it's a new GPS.
Very cool, Sam.
But do we have to test it now?
We're gonna be late for school.
- Oh, no.
- What?
- Well, this thing's a bust.
It's all wrong.
It says we're on Little Main Street.
- But we are on Little Main Street.
- Or are we?
- Yeah.
- Read it carefully.
Mina: [squealing] Little Mina Street?
- Goodness, could it be?
A street has been named after our dearest Mina.
Mina: But wait, how did you--
- Oh, don't ask me.
Perhaps council is finally acknowledging
the achievements of one of its favorite daughters,
who is not but 16.
- I thought we were missing a ladder last night.
- I returned it.
So?
- I love it!
- Let's get a selfie.
[camera clicks]
Ruby: Come on, Dad.
Pick up, pick up.
Ugh, he must have turned his phone off
during training.
- So, we wait, then?
- No time.
Go.
- Okay.
"I wish I could just tell her."
The her must be you.
So what does your dad want to tell you,
but hasn't yet?
Mina: Something difficult?
Maybe something he's still trying to figure out
how to say?
- Maybe.
And I know he'll tell me eventually,
but I need to know now.
Gabe: You guys will be there, right?
- Be where?
Gabe: Sneak peek reading for my mom's new book?
Our town's gonna be famous.
- Good for it.
- Don't be jealous, Price.
You could be famous, too.
[scoffs]
At least you could be.
Ruby: [huffs]
- My mom would stop the presses
for you, Ruby.
Never too late to share.
- We've already had this conversation
with your mother, Gabe.
You know the answer.
?
- It's none of his beeswax, anyways.
Sam: Yeah.
- Beeswax.
Bees!
Sam: What?
- Something difficult!
Cover for me.
Something my dad's trying to tell me.
Both: [perplexed] What?
Brea: Can you hand me that box, please?
- Uh, here.
So, you and my dad have been spending
a lot of time together.
- Yeah, we have, actually.
- Yeah, and you seem to be getting pretty close.
- Yeah, we kinda are.
- Huh.
So, um, I'm not sure how to ask you this,
but a-are you guys talking about...
- Landscaping?
Yeah!
Your dad's thinking about making some changes
to the orchard,
and he's been asking my opinion about it.
- Uh, I, I see.
So you're not seeing each other?
- Us?
No.
Uh, I mean, other than visually.
- Oh, okay.
Because... i-if you were, I-I'd be fine with it.
Whatever makes him happy.
[birds chirping]
- Well, I'm glad to hear
that you want your dad to be happy, Ruby.
Because he's my friend.
Your dad is a good friend.
[birds chirping]
Now, if he were to become a great friend,
maybe something more?
?
Ruby: [exhales]
?
[exhales]
- Don't you wish sometimes
you knew how things were going to turn out?
You could zip into the future,
take a few notes,
and then zip back?
How handy would that be?
?
- Handy.
[sighs]
Here.
- I'll see you, Ruby.
Ruby: Yeah.
?
[sighs]
?
[phone dialing]
[sighs]
Mina: [on phone] Hi, Ruby.
- So, it's not Brea... yet, anyways.
Sam: [on phone] Wait
Mina: [on phone] So, dead end?
Sam: [on phone] How do you know?
- [sighs]
Uh, her and my dad are just talking about
changes to the orchard and... video.
Mina: [on phone] I don't get it.
- Uh, well, Hannah's family stayed here
while we were away and--
[sniffs]
Hannah's supposed to be the next well keeper.
Sam: [on phone] So you're thinking
your dad is fixing up the place because...
- M-maybe he wants to sell to them.
He wants to tell me, but he doesn't know how.
Mina: [on phone] Ruby, you don't think that's true,
do you?
- Either way, I have to find out.
Woman 1: No, Daniel never mentioned selling to me.
Ruby: Huh.
Okay, uh, thanks, anyway.
Tell Hannah I say hi.
Mrs. Callaghan: Oh, wait.
Don't leave yet.
Uh, Hannah made you something.
Come in for a sec.
It's on the fridge.
[girls laughing]
- Mrs. Callaghan, where did you get this video?
Mrs. Callaghan: Oh, I took that.
- You made this video?
Mrs. Callaghan: Yes.
I stayed hidden.
Didn't wanna get in the way of the moment.
But I wanted Hannah to have something
to remember the happy day she met you.
Ruby: I had no idea, um...
- You two were so cute playing make believe.
Anyway, I have a pretty prolific artist
on my hands.
- Aw, that's cute!
Uh, that's me and my dad.
And that's Mina, Sam.
And who is--
- Makela Rivers-Snyder, the historian lady?
She and Hannah are reading buddies
at the library.
Did you know she's doing a whole chapter
in her Emerald book
on your well?
- She is?
Mrs. Callaghan: Yeah.
Cool, right?
Made a copy of this video for her,
just making sure that it works.
- Wait.
Mrs. Rivers-Snyder's gonna be seeing this video soon?
Mrs. Callaghan: Dropping it off to her
when I pick up Hannah from karate.
Why?
- Nothing.
I, um--
thank you so much for the beautiful drawing.
?
[door creaks open]
[door clicks shut]
Daniel: Hey.
[rustling]
So check out the new certificate.
I personally saved the lives of three mannequins today.
- Yeah.
Daniel: First one was particularly unresponsive.
Had no pulse.
Cold as ice.
But I swooped in there and I--
- [huffs]
- Everything okay?
Ruby: No.
But hopefully it will be.
I need you to help me figure something out.
- Okay.
What's on your mind?
- The wish.
Daniel: Okay.
What is it?
Your wish.
The wish that you said this morning.
- What are you talking about?
Ruby: On the phone with Grandpa O.
- What?
Ruby: You said, I-I'm glad I caught you now
what with the time difference.
So?
Daniel: Yeah, I was talking
with Grandpa O.
What's on your mind?
Ruby: I wanna know
what you wish you could tell me.
Daniel: I'm sorry, I don't...
Tell you?
Ruby: Your big secret.
Daniel: That I'm keeping from you?
- Yeah.
So go on.
Look, I-I'm ready.
Tell me anything.
You said, "I wish I could just tell her."
- Oh, okay.
I didn't mean you.
I meant, I meant someone else entirely.
Ruby: Wait.
So you aren't keeping a big secret from me?
- No.
Not at all.
- But you do have a secret.
What secret, Dad?
Who are you keeping it from?
- I--
[sighs]
- Who, Dad?
Daniel: Do we have to talk about this now?
- Yes, we do.
- [sighs]
Okay.
Look.
It's not something that I meant.
It was, it was just something I said
off the cuff.
Mrs. River-Snyder.
- You're kidding.
Tell me you're kidding.
Daniel: I can't help how I feel.
It would be nice to clear the air.
- You wished you could tell her...
about the well?
?
Sam: Okay.
Well, that should do it.
This should be enough to finish off France.
- France?
What are you talking about?
- Um, it's, uh, something special
for someone special on a special day.
- Your mom?
But her birthday's in June.
- It's never too early to get a jump on it.
?
- You are a good son, Sam Price.
- Aren't I, though?
[chuckles nervously]
Hey.
Totally unrelated to this box of stuff,
I wanted to show you and Seb something.
- What is it?
Sam: Something I need your opinion on
as a couple.
You know, with a couple experience.
- Sam, are you looking for love advice?
Finally ready to ask someone out?
- Well, it's, uh--
Mina: That's so great.
I can't wait.
- You know what?
Me too.
?
Ruby: Dad, explain.
- Okay, so...
[sighs]
Mrs. Rivers-Snyder messed me up
with this whole mystery O'Reilly thing
and it just--
it got me thinking that, yes,
secrets can protect you,
but in the long run,
they can also just... can mess everything up.
- Look, I can't--
Daniel: It's okay.
It's not like it was a real wish.
It was just the kind of wish you make
like, like, I wish my dad wasn't so stubborn.
Never expect it to come true.
Ruby: Dad, the well gave me your wish.
- Oh.
Wow.
- Which means I have to grant it.
And by the time I do that...
once I do that,
my wish won't even be possible.
- Your wish,
that this would never end, right?
Ruby: Yes.
It just got punted for this.
I--
- Why would the well give you a wish from me
that wasn't from the heart?
Ruby: Because it's dying?
You have to take it back.
- Can I even--
Ruby: You just have to unwind it somehow.
Just do it.
Daniel: Okay, okay.
Yeah, sure.
Um... I do not wish that I could just tell her.
I take it back.
- Thank you.
[magical tinkling]
Oh-oh.
Okay.
Let's just hope that this is good news.
?
Does this mean what I think it means?
Is it finally my turn?
[well rumbling]
Man 1: I wish I could just tell her.
- No.
I--
[eerie music]
But I thought--
?
[sighs]
It's fine.
All good.
No problem.
Sam: Really?
Ruby: Yes!
This is just another impossible paradoxical wish.
Okay, we're good at these.
We have a great track record.
Mina: You're right.
I wish the well would let our family be.
We crushed that one.
Sam: I wish I was the new wellkeeper.
Aced that.
Ruby: Right, so we just have
to think our way out of this one, too.
Sam: Okay.
So getting logical here,
does Mrs. Rivers-Snyder know enough now
to hurt the well?
- Not yet.
- And if you have to tell her the secret,
what'll likely happen?
Ruby: She publishes it,
the secret spreads far and wide,
and the way that the well's been going recently,
tons more people come to desecrate the whole thing
and the well, you know, shuts down forever.
- Okay.
Ruby: [huffs]
- But what if she publishes her book on Emerald
and something else happens?
- Right, like it's a flop and no one reads it.
- Her sneak preview reading is coming up.
Maybe we could mess that up somehow.
- And make it so that nobody goes to it?
- And poke holes in her professional reputation?
- Well, it's a plan, but not a very good plan.
- Not really.
- No.
- Who likes the bad plan?
?
Right.
Okay.
Then let's just hope that the very bad plan works.
?
[sighs]
[water burbling]
Mina: This is terrible!
Why's she gotta contribute so much to society?
- The lady has more degrees than I have socks.
- A-and what about the reading?
It's gaining so much traction.
- Yeah?
We'll see about that.
?
Hey, folks.
You should probably skip that talk.
It's way overpriced.
Total cash grab.
- Sam?
- What?
Mina: Her talk is free.
- My point exactly.
You get what you paid for.
Mina: Oh, boy.
Ruby: Okay.
We go to the reading live
and challenge what she's saying.
What could go wrong?
- Everything.
- Yes, but are we gonna do it anyways?
- We're gonna--
Sam and Mina: --do it anyways.
Ruby: [sighs]
[dishes clinking]
Daniel: Look.
[plate scraping]
I'm sorry.
- I know.
I also know that you didn't mean
for this wish to happen, so.
[breathes deeply]
- Actually, I've been doing some thinking about that.
Yeah, I think that the reason
that the well didn't take my wish back...
is because I do mean it.
- What?
You want the well to die?
Daniel: No, no, no, no, no.
I don't want that.
[sighs]
Look, I, I, I never meant this as a well wish.
But now that it is,
I've been doing some deep thinking and...
I think the hard truth
is that the secrets have to stop.
?
Here.
[paper rustling]
You remember this?
Ruby: My exchange school application?
But I was never really considering--
Daniel: I know.
So that you could stay home and protect the secrets.
- Maybe, but it's more important than--
Daniel: Than you?
No.
Ruby, you're anxious.
You're not sleeping enough.
And for what?
- Are you kidding me right now?
For the well.
For this magical thing
that brought the whole town back to life.
- Yes, it, did.
And now everyone's thriving.
The water's back, Ruby.
Hope and kindness are back.
You did a great job.
What's the point in keeping the secret now?
- The point is all the stuff that Finn said.
Daniel: I know, but Finn never said
the well gets disenchanted
just because the secret gets out.
He said-- he said they shut down
when they're overrun, or they're neglected,
or when bad actors take them over.
- But--
Daniel: Ruby, your well's not neglected.
It's not overrun.
And I trust this town
to keep the bad people at bay.
We're strong now.
- No, I'm the well keeper.
It's my job to protect it.
- And I am the Ruby keeper.
It's my job to protect you.
?
Ruby: No.
I'm beating this wish, with or without your help.
?
Makela: So we've heard about Emerald
as a node in the Underground Railroad.
We've also heard
about the miscarriage of justice
in the Horace Murphy trial.
But now on to something
I bet you're all curious about,
as am I.
The old O'Reilly Well.
Special wells are not new.
Reverence for them
can be traced back to ancient times.
Some thought that they healed the sick
and saved the lonely-hearted.
Ruby: So far, so Wikipedia.
Makela: Some wells also had their dangerous side.
They were considered cursed portals
to the underworld
where malevolent spirits lived.
Ruby: Uh-oh.
Sam: Here we go.
Makela: Even here,
we've heard local stories of a wild-haired man
who would climb out of the well at midnight
to prowl the town.
And area folktales,
they center around a character
shrieking into the depths,
trying to convince ruinous forces
to curse the town,
only to be dragged back down
by the forces he thought to control.
Ruby: Oh, come on!
- It is the truth underneath those stories
that I find, mm, so interesting.
It adds a chilling dimension
to the well's otherwise spiritual legacy.
Well, in closing,
I would like to thank my editors
at Middleford University Press,
and of course, the kind people of Emerald
for all that you've shared.
[applause]
Okay, good afternoon, everyone.
[applause]
Ruby: [clears throat]
Mrs. Rivers-Snyder?
Makela: Oh, hi, Ruby.
I owe you so many thanks.
The tunnels, the Horace Murphy story.
You really have helped bring our history to life.
- Why are you writing
all this stuff about the well?
It's not true, and you know it.
- W-well, for one thing, I don't.
There aren't any written records anywhere
about the well.
And two, I hope that my book
will spur readers to come forward
with more information, you know?
It's a fascinating story
that I think deserves a lot more research.
Ruby: No, but you can't.
It's not right.
- Ruby, if you know the truth about these rumors,
I am all ears.
?
You know where to find me.
?
- How exciting.
Soon the whole world will know
about our spooky well.
It's gonna be such a draw,
like our own Dracula's castle.
Makela and Lucy: [laughing]
Mina: Ruby, is that what people will think
about the well?
Forever?
- Right until they turn it into a tourist trap
and destroy it.
Ruby: I-it's okay.
I'm gonna fix this.
I just don't know how yet.
Excuse me, sorry.
?
Finn: Ruby!
?
- Finn?
?
What, I--
Finn: [laughing]
?
Ruby: Wait.
- Surprised?
- Only one of the words.
What, what are you--
- You said if only I were here.
So here I am, as requested.
Ruby: No, really.
How?
Finn: Family are traveling a few hours away
so I hopped a train.
?
- I'm so glad you did.
I--
[sniffling]
Finn: Hey.
Hey, what's wrong?
- Everything is such a mess right now.
I--
There's so much I wanna tell you, but...
?
Come with me.
There's something big I gotta show you.
And... maybe something big I have to tell you, too.
?
[sighs]
?
Finn: Woo-hoo-hoo!
Ruby: [laughs]
Finn: I knew it.
I mean, I didn't know it.
But you're so honest.
When you fib, you scrunch up your nose,
like when you said you liked my jumper.
Ruby: [laughs]
Finn: But this... this is just...
and is it a shimmer you get
or more of a twinkle?
- A bit of both, I guess.
Finn: And are there names all around here
that I can't see?
Ruby: Loads.
But before you get too excited--
- Too late.
- There's a reason I've been asking
about disenchantment.
- No.
- I would usually ask my dad
about this kind of stuff, but...
You--
We don't have to stay here.
You're probably exhausted.
I just--
Finn: No.
It's okay.
Tell me everything.
[birds chirping]
- The problem is I--
Finn: He wants you to share the secret,
get it all out in the open.
I can read between the lines.
So that's what's behind all the latest questions.
- Yeah.
And I mean, I get where he's coming from.
My dad's never liked secrets.
More like he's been for the truth.
Our family and my mom and dad,
they never had secrets.
Yeah, even when mom was sick, he didn't sugarcoat it.
He told me she was dying.
[birds chirping]
- So--
- So should I be listening now?
Is there anything that you can think of
that will help me know what to do with this wish?
This, this is the only clue that I have.
[huffs]
Finn: Who's the little girl?
Ruby: She wished to be the next well keeper.
And maybe she will be in ten years or so.
- Now that's planning ahead.
Ruby: Yeah.
- What's the two here for?
- The video's a reoccurring clue.
I've seen it twice in my visions.
First, I thought it was a warning
that someone was spying on us,
but it just turned out to be a video
that the girl's nice mom took,
so dead end.
- So it led to nothing at all.
- Hannah's mom did give me this.
[paper rustling]
Finn: If the well led you to this,
it must mean something.
What do you see?
- People gathered around the well.
Me, my dad, my friends,
and the woman who's going to destroy it.
- I see you and the writer lady
side by each.
- Like we're on the same side.
- Like you're linked.
- Linked at our well.
So maybe the video wasn't meant as a warning.
Maybe it was meant as... hope?
Come on.
I need my wish board.
?
Daniel: Here you go.
A box of jewels
and an alarming number of staples.
Sam: [chuckles]
Thanks, Mr. O.
I'll take good care of them.
Daniel: So, Sam, how's the wish going?
- Oh, it's, uh, it's great.
Twice as fast
now that I've got Seb on board.
And at first he was all, uh, ugh, romance.
But turns out it was all a cover.
- That's great to hear.
Yeah.
[thunk]
I, um, I was actually meaning the other wish.
My wish.
- Yeah, I knew what you meant.
I was just dancing around it.
- That bad?
- Well, Ruby's off on one of her big thinks.
It doesn't look great.
But...
- Right.
- I guess that's why I'm so focused
on Mina's wish, right?
'Cause what if the well dies and it never comes up?
Which means I gotta make sure it comes true.
- I get that.
Sam: But the well gave us your wish for a reason.
Why?
We don't know,
so there's more to this that we haven't figured out.
But, uh, I'm not giving up on your wish
or on Mina's.
Thanks again.
[rattling]
?
[door clicks shut]
?
Finn: What?
- You don't know this,
but this place was a ghost town before.
I-- but now it's full of light,
rain or shine.
People helping people.
Tessa: Yeah, but I've been taking all your advice,
and I feel so much better.
Paula: Good.
Tessa: Yeah.
I'm gonna be okay!
Oh, we're gonna be okay.
- Oh.
Both: [laughing]
Ruby: People surprising each other?
Finn: What?
Like, granting wishes on their own?
- People granting wishes on their own.
[magical shimmer]
?
- And the fountain, it used to be dry.
But ever since I started granting the well's wishes,
it's come back to life.
- Wow.
Look at it now.
- But... the well is shutting down,
and the fountain isn't.
Paula: Wait, are you saying you don't need me anymore?
Tessa: Never.
Paula: Ah, good.
I have your back.
But you know, the goal all along
was to get you to where you don't need me anymore.
- That's it.
?
Mina: Ruby, are you okay?
What--
Hi?
Finn: Hi, I'm Finn.
I know about everything.
Sam: He's Finn?
Mina: And he knows about everything?
- Uh, Finn, Sam, Mina, can we do the whole--
Mina: Get to know you--
Ruby: Later.
We're onto something.
Finn's got his mom looking through his notes for--
Finn: She found it.
One instance.
The๏ฟฝ Fearghail Well.
It shut itself down,
not because of neglect,
not because it was overrun,
not because of any problems whatsoever.
Ruby: [panting breath]
- Ruby, what's going on?
Ruby: Okay, look.
The well is shutting itself down,
but it's not for the reason that we think.
The town is fine,
and people are granting their own wishes.
Like, maybe they don't need the magic anymore.
A-and then there's the picture.
All of us,
plus the woman who's gonna record it all
for history.
Like we're linked.
- Are you following any of this?
- [uncertainly] Ish.
Ruby: Okay.
In a nutshell,
maybe everything is connected.
And maybe even my dad's wish and mine.
And if I am right about this, then things might be okay.
- And if they're not?
- Then it's all the bad stuff that Finn said.
?
Sam: Ruby, could this all be about to come to an end?
?
- The hard truth, I don't know yet.
But I think it's about time that we all find out.
?
[phone beeping]
[phone dialing]
Dad?
Daniel: [on phone] Ruby?
- Ready to clear the air?
Daniel: [on phone] You sure?
- Yeah.
Now you know.
So?
?
You don't believe it.
After all that, and you still don't believe it?
- Well, let's say I do appreciate it.
It's a beautiful story.
- But it's fantasy.
Folklore.
I--
Hang on.
I have to show you something.
?
[pages crackling]
See?
It's one thing to hear the truth,
but it's a whole other thing to see it with your own eyes.
[pages crackling]
?
There's only one way to settle this.
?
Come with me.
?
Please.
Just--
come with me?
[plop]
?
Here we go, Well.
Did I figure it out?
?
[breathing heavily]
?
[whoosh, pages rustling]
Ruby and Finn: [gasp]
- What, what is--
[magical shimmering]
[whoosh]
[bells tinkling]
[wind blowing, pages rustling]
?
[laughs]
[wind blowing, pages rustling, bells tinkling]
[laughter]
[magical music]
?
?
[wind blowing softly]
[owl hooting]
Ruby: Maybe this is the well's biggest secret,
that we can all be wish-granters.
It's done what it needed to do,
for me and for this town.
It's sparked a spirit in us,
a sparkling nudge towards who we all are already.
We don't need to rely on it anymore.
We'll be just fine without it,
ready to act on our small, kind inspirations
to make wishes come true.
Sam: Open.
[Dreams by The Cranberries] ? Oh, my life ?
? Is changing every day ?
? In every possible way ?
?
? And oh, my dreams ?
? as it seems ?ite
? Never quite as it seems ?
?
Sam: Bienvenue!
Singer: ? I know I've felt like this before ?
? But now I'm feeling it even more ?
? Because it came from you ?
?
? Then I open up and see ?
? The person falling here is me ?
? A different way to be ?
?
? Ah ?
? La-ah-la-ah ?
? La-la-la ?
? La-ah-la-ah ?
?
? Oh, my life ?
? Is changing every day ?
? In every possible way ?
Ruby: Dad was right.
Hope and kindness are back.
We are strong now.
We are thriving.
And sharing the secret,
spreading this inspiration far and wide means...
we've all got this.
?
Now I know my well isn't dead
or disenchanted.
The spirit of the well may be done here for now,
but that doesn't mean it's not ready
to move somewhere it's needed more.
[sniffles]
A new beginning.
[birds chirping]
[sighs]
Thank you.
[magical chiming, shimmering]
[sobbing]
[sniffling]
We did it.
[sniffling]
?
[magical shimmering]
What's going on?
?
Finn: Ruby!
?
Ruby, did you see that light?
I was just putting my pack in the car and--
[deep rumbling]
There it is again.
[deep rumbling]
What is it?
Ruby: You can see it too?
Finn: Mm-hm.
[magical shimmering]
- Is this like that light you saw
on your first day here?
Ruby: No.
Only... yes.
[magical shimmering]
- What do we do?
?
- We follow it.
?
[theme music plays]
