Ruby: And pour into the casserole dish,
and sprinkle with brown sugar.
- Here we go.
- Top with pecans.
Both: [groan]
Ruby: What you do mean, "ugh"?
Daniel: Did you just...
I never told her,
I mean, I love your mom's sweet potato pudding,
but not...
- The pecans?
Me neither.
I, uh, thought I was the only one.
I just sort of choked 'em down.
- Maybe, for this year's community dinner, could we...
- Yeah!
[cell phone ringing]
I mean, we're the pudding bosses now.
[ringing continues]
That's weird.
- Not actually.
Blocked call.
Probably that reporter who won't leave us alone.
- Oh.
A lot of people interested in the well
ever since that real estate mailing went out.
- Yeah.
- But I'm not gonna let that get me down.
It's almost Thanksgiving,
and nothing is going to spoil our family time.
- Exactly.
This is our time.
[magical resonating]
- Um, apparently, also the well's time.
Can you put this in the oven?
[enchanting music]
What?
Unbelievable!
I-- it's not enough
just to trespass and snoop around,
but you have to litter too?
[scoffs]
?
[whooshing]
?
Wisher: [distorted] I wish Tom didn't ruin everything.
[echoing] Tom!
[echoing] Ruin everything!
Ruby: [gasps]
That's it?
You are acting really weird.
Just...
please, please be okay.
Okay?
[theme music]
?
?
Daniel: So, do you think
this well disenchantment is happening?
but I used my wish.
Iwould never end.s
- So, if then...ret spreads,
- Yeah, uh...
it'll stop the well
shutting down.y
- Okay, interesting.
Sgives you your wish?st
-I need to solve it,s
before you know it...
- The well's back to normal.
- Hmm.
- Okay, yeah, good plan.
it's gonna work?k
- Of course!
I mean, it has to, right?
isn't too far gone.
Daniel: Mm-hm.
- In the meantime,
and get things to quiet down.
?
Halona: Aria!
Aria: Hi!
Halona: Oh, look at you!
Ruby: So much for quiet.
Halona: You look absolutely cosmopolitan!
Aria: Oh, stop it.
Ruby: Ah, Aria!
Hi, how are you, how's Geneva?
Aria: Je dois te dire, c'est magnifique.
Both: [laugh]
Mina: I understood that.
Aria: Oh, hi!
- I'm so jealous,
but it's still so good to see you!
Sam: Aria!
Aria: Oh, hi!
[metal clanging]
Paula: Hi, y'all.
Who's ready to put together yet another
perfect community Thanksgiving supper?!
[cheers and applause, pot banging]
- [laughs]
Paula: The proceeds go to the fire department,
United Way,
and the Socks for Squirrels fund.
We all know how chilly the nights get around here.
This year, we'll have pumpkin painting for the kids,
our gratitude canvas,
and, as always, live entertainment,
but Lou, leave the bagpipes at home.
Lou: Awh!
Paula: And, of course, the food.
Lou, take it away.
- As per usual, I'll be offering
my specially prepared turkey dinner.
And trust me, you'll be thankful.
[audience laughs]
Ms. Grady: [laughs insincerely]
Which is more of a threat than a promise.
However, for the more civilized amongst us,
there will be many vegan options.
Courtesy, moi.
- Yeah, tofurkey.
The dish that taste forgot.
[scattered laughter]
- Okay, uh, community sign-up sheets
are on this side with Ms. Halona,
and on this side with me.
Let's make this year's dinner one to remember, yeah?
[cheers and applause]
Paula: Thank you!
Thank you!
Daniel: Hey, Paula.
Paula: Oh, hi!
Daniel: O'Reilly contingent, reporting for duty.
Paula: Uh, one of them anyway.
- Yes, well...
Paula: Oh...
yeah, I know that feeling.
Seems like just yesterday
they were clinging to your pant leg,
and now...
- [chuckles]
Yeah.
Brea: One more time, Brea,
we're just gonna do it one more time.
- Hey, Brea.
What's up?
- Hey.
- Can I help you with something?
- [sighs]
?
Mina: "I wish Tom didn't ruin everything."
So, what exactly are we hoping to find
in Tom's stuff?
- I'm not sure.
Maybe there's some terrible moment
in his history,
or something he ruined really badly.
Sam: Right, like a friendship,
a wedding, or a haircut.
Ruby: A haircut?
- Okay, not a haircut.
Maybe we'll find something
that had yellow gunk spilled all over it,
like your vision.
Mina: Yeah, or maybe we'll find
a needle in a haystack?
Sam: This has to be the vaguest,
toughest wish yet.
I mean, we have next to nothing to go on.
- Which just means we need to focus on the clues.
I mean...
clue.
Mina: Okay.
Goop, go.
- Uh, it was a sort of yellowy vegetable thing.
- Which I really hope we don't find in these boxes.
Ruby: [sighs]
Mina: Okay, what about the bowl?
Would you know it to see it?
Ruby: Maybe.
Nope.
I don't see it.
Mina: But this is every bowl in the house!
Ruby: [sighs]
It was orange, and sort of bulgy, uh--
Mina and Sam: Bulgy?
Ruby: Uh, yeah, like, it wasn't perfect.
The edges sort of went in and out?
- If it was from Tom's time, it might've been antique.
Which means...
Both: Abelard's.
[silverware clinking]
- And it's just...
it's getting a little old.
So, every year,
it's my job to convince lonely old Wally
to come to the Thanksgiving dinner,
and every year, he fights me on it.
- Wally Talbot?
Our old orchard hand?
- Yeah.
Wally "Barely-Says-Anything Except-To-Say-Nope" Talbot.
But his kids are long gone
and he spends every holiday by himself,
so, now he's...
kinda become my personal project.
- Why doesn't he wanna come?
- Honestly, Dan, I don't know.
Every year, he winds up having a really good time.
And that man needs community
more than anyone I have ever known.
- Well, maybe I can help.
I, I know Wally pretty well.
- Really?
That's right, you have an in.
Oh, that would be great.
Okay, I think I'm gonna give this a try.
Daniel: Mm-hm.
- But if it doesn't work, then it's over to you.
- Okay.
- Okay?
Well, come on then, partner!
- [chuckles]
Mina: Anything?
Ruby: Uh, nope.
Nope.
Nope!
Nope.
Yep!
Sam: No way!
Ruby: [laughs]
Lou: Sorry.
- Oh!
Lou: Not for sale.
Nothing on this counter is,
I'm just getting my things organized for the dinner.
Ruby: Oh, uh, it's nice.
Just curious, where did you get it?
Any chance it belonged to Tom,
my dad's uncle?
- Not even close,
I bought it myself in town a few years ago,
and I use it every year at the dinner.
For the rutabaga.
- Which is yellow!
- It, eh, flipped off the table and cracked!
Almost broke my heart.
- Flipped off the table.
[whooshing]
?
Okay, some things are starting to connect.
Sam: Yeah, but not to your great-uncle.
Ruby: So then maybe we have the wrong Tom.
But if we do, how do we find the right one
without any more clues?
- So, we'll just have to round up
every Tom in town.
How hard can it be?
- Impossible.
Mina: But you have access to all the county records.
Can't you help us out for, like, five minutes?
Sheila: Sorry, hun.
Number one, it's my day off.
And number two,
chase down everyone named Tom in the entire county?
I am much, much too busy for that.
Mina: And what exactly are you so busy with?
- Well, I'm chair
of the dinner decoration committee,
and it's a responsibility I do not take lightly.
- Look, it will only take a second.
You have the county database, correct?
- Mmmm.
Mina: All you have to do
is search for a specific set of fields,
like Tom, Thomas, Tommy...
- Mm-hm.
What do you think?
Should I do the usual orange and browns,
or what if I go bolder?
Cranberry red?
Sunset purple?
Mina: Seriously, it's not even that hard.
I-I can do it for you.
- I know.
Bronze, gold, cream, copper, red.
All the colors of Tom Turkey's tail feathers.
?
- Did she say Tom Turkey?
Lou: You're wastin' your time.
Ms. Grady: Ugh.
Lou: Nobody eats the tofurkey,
it winds up gettin' thrown out.
[mockingly] All those poor little tofus
gave up their lives for nothing!
- Ha-ha-ha, Mr. Everything's A Joke.
But you know what isn't a joke?
Meat.
Meat is murder.
Lou: Ah!
Ms. Grady: Which gives me an idea!
Lou: Oh, you can threaten me all ya want,
but it's gonna happen!
- Not if I can help it!
Lou: Ah, don't stop beefing with me!
Ms. Grady: Oh, if it isn't your idea,
it's not a good idea!
Ruby: So, Tom really is ruining everything.
Sam: Tom Turkey, that is.
Ruby: [scoffs]
Mina: And if this feud keeps up,
it could ruin the whole dinner.
- So, maybe our glitchy-wish wisher is...
both of them!
Sam: Is it just me,
or is this wish just a bit funny?
Mina: [laughing] The way those two argue?
Sam: Over the most ridiculous stuff.
- Right?
Just like you, Sam.
- What do you mean, just like me?
- Like, last week you were all,
"I'm taking the gloves off"
over the correct name of some cereal
we had when we were three.
- 'Cause you were massacring the name.
- So?
- So, it's kinda your forte.
After a while, I snapped.
Anybody would.
Mina: Over cereal?
Sam: No, over your malapropism.
- Oh, that's a big word for you.
Sam: Okay, then why don't you try to say it
and prove my point?
Ruby: Okay, stop,
let's just agree that you're endearing
and you're a cereal connoisseur.
- And you're maybe just a little patronizing?
- What?
Sam: A little, but it's there.
Thiiiis much.
Ruby: Okay, I'm just trying to keep you two
from arguing about dumb stuff.
Sam: Well, we don't argue about dumb stuff.
Ruby: You're doing it right now!
Mina and Sam: We are not!
Both: [laugh softly]
Sam: Sorry, that got a little heated.
Mina: I guess those wishers are rubbing off on us.
- Okay, all jokes aside, should we focus on the wish?
Since the turkey seems to be the star of it,
maybe we should find out more about it, yeah?
Mina and Sam: Yeah.
?
Brea: Okay.
All right, there he is.
I'm goin' in.
Hey there, Wally!
It's just me again,
urging you, pleading with you,
cajoling you
into coming, for your own good,
to the Thanksgiving dinner!
But you're gonna come this year, right?
- Nope.
- Wally, you know, people like seeing you there.
They like you,
and whether you think you need people or not,
you do, for your well-being.
Is it the cranberry sauce?
That's right, you don't like it, do you?
- Nope.
- Well, hey, don't worry about it,
'cause you don't have to have it
if you don't want to.
No, don't say it.
Listen, Wally.
I know you don't have anywhere else to be that day,
because everything is closed.
Will you come for me?
Will you come for, for all of the people
who are working really hard to put on this event,
and you always wind up loving it,
you know you do.
What do you say?
We'll go together?
- Nope.
- Okay, over to you, Dan.
Good luck.
- Hey, Wally.
I gotta try to get you to come to this thing, okay?
Remind me, your kids are grown, right?
- They are, and they're off running their own lives.
Daniel: 'Kay, well, that's probably a good reason
to come to dinner, right?
celebrating Thanksgiving must be tough without them.
- It's not the same.
And you'll find out soon enough.
How many Thanksgivings do you think you have left
with that girl of yours?
- How m--
Well, I guess, after this one...
two.
Wally: It's hard, Daniel.
- Yeah, wow, two.
Wally: But I made my way.
I like Thanksgiving, but on my own.
- I...
- I prefer not to mark it.
- I didn't think of it like that.
- Every year, Brea tries to get me to come.
But not this year, no.
?
- So, did you convince him?
Both: Nope.
- Oh, somehow, I'm not surprised.
Daniel: [chuckles]
- Okay, back at it!
Hey, Wally?
Langston: Yeah, yeah,
I supply the whole area out here.
Ruby: And this is the busiest you get?
- For the poultry trade, for sure.
In fact, come the holiday season,
most of my birds,
they're spoken for before they're even hatched.
Ruby: And it's the same thing every year?
- Oh, pretty much.
And my, my most loyal,
and, dare I say, persnickety customer,
is Lou Abelard himself.
Mina: Why am I not surprised?
- Yeah, he's a bit obsessive.
He comes to visit his anointed bird every week.
You wouldn't believe it.
He coos sweet nothings to it.
You know, once, he even brought his banjo.
Sam: Better than his bagpipes.
Ruby: Uh, mind if we see this treasured turkey?
- Oh, yes.
Right over here.
[tense music]
Wha-- no!
No! No!
Mina: What happened, he escaped?
Langston: I don't know!
I don't know.
These turkeys are free-range,
but we move them into the pens
before we ship 'em out.
It should be here.
Michelle!
Michelle: Yeah?
Langston: Michelle, do you see this?!
Ruby: Wait, look.
Mina: Somebody messed with it.
- Uh, Mr. Pritchard?
Did you see this?
- [gasps]
It's just...
[groans]
It didn't just escape.
Someone stole Lou's bird an hour before delivery!
[stammers]
We've had thieves before,
but usually they're after the whole lot!
?
How am I gonna break this to Lou?
- I...
Looks like this Thanksgiving wish
has turned into something else entirely.
Mina: A turkey-napping.
?
[indistinct chatter and dishes clanking]
Paula: I know you love Thanksgiving,
so what's goin' on?
- I was just talking with Wally earlier
about his kids leaving,
and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
We only have
two more Thanksgivings with our kids, until...
Does that--
- Crush my heart, turn my gut,
keep me up at night?
Yes, yes, it does.
- It's just that I've...
I've just been in it, you know?
Paula: Yeah.
- Parenting.
Concentrating so hard on it, and...
enjoying it like it would never...
never end, but...
but it does.
- I think it's gotta be
one of the biggest changes in a parent's life.
I do.
- I'm not ready, Paula.
Paula: Oh, me neither,
but, um, we'll get through it.
Somehow.
Could use a map, though.
Daniel: Yeah.
Yeah, me too.
Paula: [sighs]
Two, three, four...
One more.
Daniel: Yeah, one more.
- No footprints, no tire tracks, no fibers.
So much for CSI: Emerald.
- Whoever pulled off this job is good.
[distant creak, thud]
[suspenseful music]
Wait.
Did you see that?
- See what?
Ruby: So, I talked to the farmhands,
and none of them saw anything suspicious.
[distant thud]
- What was that?
Sam: What, did you see it too?
- I'm not sure.
- Uh, what was what?
Sam: I don't know.
Maybe our criminal.
- Returning to the scene of the crime?
Sam: Well, according to TV, it happens all the time.
Impulse,
making sure there's no evidence left behind,
et cetera.
- Okay, well keep an eye out.
But for now, let's check for escape routes.
Uh, holes in the fence, loose gate,
anything like that.
[car engine rumbles]
There!
They're getting away!
?
No...
way.
[turkey gobbling]
[tires screeching]
Is that Val?
[upbeat folk music]
[tires screeching]
- That way!
There's a shortcut.
We can catch up.
?
Val?
Val: [whimpering]
Sam: Val, Val!
Val, what's going on?!
What is going on?
- Okay, okay, I did it!
Yes, I did it, okay?!
I am a lowdown, no-good criminal!
Ruby: So...
Val: Oh, please, just no more questions!
I will explain everything.
[sighs dramatically]
Come.
Tom's safe in the truck.
Let's go clear the air!
Tom: [coos softly]
Brea: It was so good to see you.
- Bye.
- So great to see Aria.
Daniel: Yeah, it is.
And she's not too grown up
to hang out with her family, that's...
that's good stuff.
- I think kids are like bees.
You know, they fly off to who knows where,
but then they always come back to the hive.
- Most of them do, anyway.
Then there's Wally's kids, right?
- But then there's Aria, right?
Right?
- Right.
Val: I was desperate.
So I decided to steal Tom
and take him back to my sanctuary,
both to save his life
and to end this silly Grady-Abelard feud
once and for all.
Ruby: So you did it.
And you got away with it, too.
Val: I know!
But then...
I got in the car and I felt so guilty,
so I didn't know what to do.
I brought him back.
And then I just kept going back and forth,
Do I give him back, do I save him,
do I save all the turkeys?
- Classic.
Criminal's remorse.
Val: Right?!
And then you showed up, and...
I couldn't find my way back in
without you seeing me, so I ran.
Well, here we are.
I'm not a very good criminal.
Mina: Hey, don't be so hard on yourself.
Maybe with some practice--
Val: Okay, what's next?
Are you gonna turn me in, am I goin' to the big house?
Oh...
My farm...
Oh, my animals...
- No, no, no, we're not gonna turn you in.
But you do need to return the turkey
to its rightful owners.
Val: Right.
Mina: Maybe you can talk Lou into giving it mercy.
- But the point is, it's his choice, not yours.
- You're right.
[sighs]
Well...
Better go out and break it to Tom.
Ruby: Mm-hm.
Val: Oh no.
Oh nooo!
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, noooo!
[panting]
[gasping]
Mina: The turkey really did escape this time.
Val: How could this happen?
I had him buckled in and everything!
[distressed sobbing]
Sam: Well, he's long gone now.
Val: You guys!
A big soft domesticated turkey like Tom
in the woods?!
There's wolves out there, coyotes!
It's like losing a baby in the big city!
Sam: Tom Turkey really is ruining everything.
Ruby: He's doomed.
Lou: Gone?!
My baby's gone?!
- Yeah, I'm...
sorry to be the one to tell you.
Lou: It was the finest bird I've ever seen, too.
Magnificent.
And minutes from the oven!
Ruby: Well, maybe it's not too late,
maybe it's still out there!
Ms. Grady: Oh, this looks like a crisis-tunity to me.
- Freda.
You wouldn't dare.
Ms. Grady: Well, ya know what they say,
possession is nine tenths of the law.
So, who's with me?
Who wants to rescue Thomas Q. Turkey
before Lou the Lout
gets his murderous hands on him?
Lou: What?
Nothin' doin'!
Someone come and help me find that main course!
Sam: So, what now?
Mina: What does this mean for the wish?
- I-I-I don't know, I have to think.
Mina: You always need to think,
there's no time to think,
we need to save that bird from the roasting pan!
- You're always rushing me!
I can't let that cloud my mind.
What if the well wants the turkey dinner to happen?
Sam: Uh-oh...
- Who cares what the well wants?
- I do.
I thought you did too.
Mina: Obviously I do,
but there's a life at stake here, right, Sam?
- Did I mention, Uh-oh?
Ruby: Okay, well, there's a wish at stake here too,
Sam, how can you possibly be on her side?
- You two think I'm new here?
No way I'm taking sides.
- Fine.
I'm joining team Grady.
- Fine!
Mr. Abelard!
Can I come with you?
Lou: Oh, of course.
We can use a sharp carnivorous mind like yours.
- Great, now Tom Turkey's ruining us too.
- Coming?
- You know what?
I've had enough.
I think I'm taking the rest of this wish off.
[sighs]
- [scoffs]
Lou: You picked the right team, people,
I can track anything.
Deer, turkeys, even ex-hippies.
Ms. Grady: I heard that!
Lou: Then you're too close!
Ms. Grady: Yeah, well, you go west, old man.
I'm heading east.
Lou: Dah!
No, heh, she's heading west.
She can't read a compass.
If she ever had one.
But I never go anywhere without it.
Compass is broken.
Never mind.
This way!
?
Halona: I mean, anything can happen
when you set those two off.
- Yeah, have they always been like that?
- Well, they've always been entertaining,
even if it's not in the same way
as they are now.
- What do you mean?
Halona: Well, they were always
kind of the center of attention.
I mean, even back when they were a couple.
- When they were a what now?
- Hard to fathom, I know.
Oil and water.
But opposites attract, right?
Sam: Sure, right before they destroy each other.
[chuckles]
- Hold on, I have something you might find interesting.
An illuminating artifact from days gone by...
?
Mina: Uh, Ms. Grady?
The signal's getting pretty weak out here.
I've only got one bar, and without GPS--
Ms. Grady: GPS!
We never had GPS back in the day.
And were we lost?
Never!
Because we knew who we were and what we wanted.
I don't need no stinkin' GPS.
Oh, all right!
If you're scared, just go back home,
but I'm finding the turkey.
And some mushrooms.
Lou's stuffing is about as bland as his outlook.
But not this year!
Mina: Ms. Grady?
I'm not sure it's safe to keep...
going.
Ms. Grady: Ah, quitters never win,
winners never quit!
?
Lou: No.
Definitely not lost.
I know exactly where we are.
Ruby: I-I sure hope so,
because the service out here sure is spotty.
Lou: Phones, schmones.
All we need to do
is follow the direction of the tree moss growth,
and that will lead us due south.
Or is it due north?
It's due something.
Follow me!
- A-are you sure that's a good idea, Mr. Abelard?
Lou: Well, it is for me!
But you all just suit yourselves!
?
- [sighs]
?
Halona: Orchard Grill.
Established 1975.
This, young man, is the first menu.
- Cool.
What's this?
- Well, back in the day, restaurant owners
liked to put their personal stories
on the menus.
Helped bring the place some character.
- Okay, here we go.
"Chapter One: Seeds of Love.
"Amidst a buzz of excitement,
"the Orchard Grill celebrated its grand opening
"in fall 1975.
[soft rock music]
"Everyone who was anyone was there,
"from celebrity impersonators and their hangers-on,
"to the hippest trendsetters,
"to just plain old hungry folks.
"The air was filled
"with warmth, laughter, and the aroma
"of mouth-watering leek and thyme pie.
"And the place had a festive atmosphere,
"mixing and matching the trends of the day,
"from haute cuisine to haute dogs.
"It was exhilarating,
"and there's no impersonating that.
"The night was a massive success,
"and the town heartily congratulated
"the owners of this new hot spot:
"dashing young Lou Abelard...
"and gracious, bewitching, Freda Grady.
"The two of them
"could turn on the charm like a lightbulb,
"which turned out to be great for business,
"and great for the young duo, too.
"What a sight they were.
"You never saw a couple more in harmony.
?
"Lou said it best himself when he said,
"'You've made my dream come true,
"'my wild Irish rose.
With love, from Lou Abelard.'"
Wow.
There's way more going on between those two
than we thought.
- Mm-hm.
- Excuse me, Ms. Tl'izilani.
I've got to call Ruby.
- Oh, I'll leave you to it.
- Yeah.
Thank you very much!
Ms. Grady: [softly] Tooooom?
Tom: [coos softly]
[suspenseful music]
?
- Tom?
?
Tom!
?
[distant gobbling]
?
[sing-song] Toooom?
?
[distant gobbling]
- Tom?!
?
Lou: You?!
Ms. Grady: You?!
Lou: What are you doing here?
Ms. Grady: I heard the turkey.
- So did I.
[gobbling]
- Aw, that was you?
- Hi!
- Does anyone know where we are?
- Ah, I was hoping you'd know.
?
[gobbling call]
[sighs]
?
Ruby: Uh, Mina?
Where are you guys?
A-are you okay?
- Just finding our bearings.
I've been trying to get a signal, like, forever.
- Mina?
- Ruby!
- Oh!
Oh, I thought I'd never see you again!
Mina: I thought we were lost for good!
Ruby: I'm so sorry that we fought.
Mina: I can't believe we fought like that.
- From now on, no more bickering.
- Not until the end of this wish, at least.
Both: [chuckle]
[cell phone ringing]
- Sam?
Sam: Against my better judgment,
I'm joining back in on this one.
You are not going to believe this.
It might have everything to do with the wish.
You gotta get back here.
- Uh, we gotta go see Sam.
Uh, okay, we're on our way. but, for now, what?
Sam: [continues indistinct]
?
So, there it is.
The epic tale of the Orchard Grill.
Mina: A tragedy of love in three acts.
Ruby: Great work, Sam,
but it's what happened next that's really intriguing.
Mina: Exactly.
Okay, so, soon after its big opening,
the Orchard Grill became part of the fabric of Emerald.
[record player whirring]
[rock music]
Ruby: First dates, birthdays, proms,
it hosted them all.
As business and romantic partners,
Lou and Freda's risk looked like a big hit
with people from all over.
It was worth it
just to see Lou in his powder blue suit.
[chuckles]
The whole place had a young-couple-in-love vibe
that was hard to resist.
- But then the drought hit,
the town dried up, and so did business.
The partners blamed each other
for not doing enough.
They both tried to save the business,
but it just cost more and did less.
Sam: They started picking at each other.
Finally, the business shriveled up and died.
Sold for next to nothing.
- And the couple never recovered.
[somber rock ballad]
Singer: ? ...really changed your melody. ?
Ms. Grady: This is all your fault,
you always had to have the limelight.
- Me?
You spend all your time
thinking up new ways to boss me around!
Val: Okay, I've had enough.
I thought I could, but you know what?
The two of you don't even care about Tom,
you just wanna argue!
- Now look what you did.
- Me?
But I hardly even said a w--
[gobbling]
- Tom?
- No.
Just more disappointment,
the usual feeling I have around you.
Val: Down here!
- What?
Did you find the turkey?
Val?
Where did you go?
Lou: The voice was from this direction.
Val: Stop, don't come any closer!
Both: [screaming]
[grunting]
Val: Are you two okay?
Both: [groaning]
Lou: I guess that'd be a no.
Val: Oh, oh, Freda.
Ms. Grady: Oh!
Val: Are you okay?
Oh, Lou...
All: [panting]
Ms. Grady: Oh boy.
What happened?
Oh...
Lou: Here.
Boost me up.
Ms. Grady: No, you better boost me up.
Val: Okay, no, no, both of you boost me up.
Lou: No, no, wait a minute, just let me figure this out.
Ms. Grady: Oh, right, well, if you could just
let go of your ego for five seconds
and maybe just call for help.
Lou: Why don't you call for help?
Ms. Grady: I don't have any bars!
Lou: [mockingly] "I don't have any bars."
Val: I've just got a half of one.
Ms. Grady: Can you call?
Val: No, it's only sometimes.
[sighs]
[groans]
Ruby: So, the Tom in the wish isn't a turkey,
and it is, in fact, our Tom who ruined everything.
Sam: Since no one knew what caused the drought,
it was easier for Ms. Grady and Mr. Abelard
to blame each other.
Mina: But then, as things got worse,
their relationship fell apart.
It's so romantic and tragic!
Sam: So, you're gonna tell 'em?
Ruby: What, that my great- uncle
was a well-keeper
who turned his back on a magic well,
causing a town to dry up?
Mina: Well, that's what happened.
- Yeah, okay, then, while I'm at it,
I might as well put a giant neon sign
over the well that says, "Magic well here, come gawk.
Maybe you can see it die again."
- Okay, I get it, but we have to fix this.
- Only how?
[truck horn honks]
- Dad?
Daniel: Hey, I got a garbled call for help
from the turkey hunters, and then their phone died.
They're together,
but do you know where they are?
- I-I know where Mr. Abelard was.
- Great, get in.
Dispatch: [on radio] Dan?
Dispatch.
We've managed to ping the cellphone coordinates.
Sending them to your GPS.
Ruby: Wait, that looks familiar.
Daniel: Yeah? How?
Ruby: I think it's...
the tunnels.
Ms. Grady: 'Kay, so, we're in part of the tunnels.
That, uh, missus hyphenated what's-her-name professor's
been studying them,
and she says that they go all the way into town.
So, let's go!
Lou: No!
We're stayin' right here.
- Oh, you're making the decisions, are you?
- Yes.
Ms. Grady: Oh, because you're in charge?
Lou: Always have been.
Ms. Grady: Oh, for Pete--
Val: Can you two please stop arguing?
Ms. Grady: Sorry, Val, no problem.
I would rather get lost in there forever
than spend one more second with that man.
Lou: Hmph.
Ms. Grady: I'm goin'.
Lou: She's goin'.
Let's hope she means it.
Val: Lou?
Lou?!
Ruby: Here.
This way.
- What happened here?
Lou: Is anybody there?!
Val: Yoo-hoo!
Hello?!
Lou: Ah!
Val: Ah!
Lou: Hi!
Daniel: Great to see you guys.
Lou: It's good to see you.
- I'll get the ladder.
[suspenseful music]
- Where's Ms. Grady?
- [sniffs, sighs]
?
Oh...
Oh, maybe I should just turn back.
I'll never hear the end of it if I do.
[sighs]
[exhales sharply]
Ugh.
?
Daniel: Ruby?
What's wrong?
- Ms. Grady, she, she went in the tunnels.
- She did not.
What's it like down there?
- Not dangerous, necessarily, just...
r-really tight.
Daniel: We'll deal with that after we get these two out.
Ruby: Okay.
Both: [grunting]
Val: Thank you so much.
What a day.
[panting]
Lou: Freda!
You okay?!
Ms. Grady: Don't you dare follow me!
Oh, oh, ho, ho, this is so narrow.
[grunting in distance]
Lou: I'm not goin'.
I heard somethin' down there,
sounds like somethin's wrong.
I, I know that woman.
Boy, do I know that woman.
The thing is, Freda's prone to panic attacks.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they started happening
back when, you know, we were together, and...
her current diabetes doesn't help much.
- Panic attacks are about the worst thing
that could happen in there.
- In the old days,
I could talk her down, you know?
Sometimes.
Ruby: Do you think you could do that again now?
- I doubt it.
Now with all this bad blood between us,
I'd probably just make things worse.
- Yeah, I know the story.
Lou: That woman thinks I put a curse on us.
- I-I know.
And it wasn't your fault, neither of you.
Lou: W-what do you mean?
- Nothing.
Lou: Well, whose fault was it, then?
Who did ruin everything?
- Nobody's.
It's not like a person can cause a drought, right?
- Well, I guess.
But sometimes I look at your family and...
wonder.
- Let's find Ms. Grady.
Daniel: Yeah, uh, we don't know
how deep she went.
Ruby: Then you guys head in that way,
there's a bunch of other entrances
on the other side.
I'll head over.
Lou: I'm, I'm, I'm coming with you!
Ruby: This way.
Ms. Grady: Oh, oh, where, where am I?
Ruby: She should be right over here.
Ms. Grady: Oh...
Ruby: Ms. Grady?
Ms. Grady: [distressed breathing]
Ruby: Ms. Grady!
Ms. Grady: Hi, hi!
Hey, it's, it's okay, Ms. Grady,
it's okay, it's okay.
Help is here, okay?
I'm coming in.
I'm right here.
It's okay.
Ms. Grady: Okay.
Dad, is that you?
Daniel: Ruby, yeah, it's me.
I'm here.
Ms. Grady: [distressed breathing]
Ruby: Okay, we just need you to calm down
so that we can ease you this way, okay?
- [breathing heavily]
Okay, all right.
- Okay, then we're gonna work together now--
Ms. Grady: [shouts in pain]
Ruby: What's wrong, what's wrong?
Daniel: I think her leg is caught on a root.
It might be digging into her,
I'm gonna have to cut her out.
- Okay, Ms. Grady, please, please,
you, you have to calm down, okay?
- [sobbing]
- Hey, guess what!
Guess what!
Ms. Grady: What?
Ruby: Lou is here.
- No, no, no!
[crying]
Ruby: I know, I know, I-I know,
but just, just, just picture this, okay?
Dashing Lou.
The Lou you loved in his powder blue suit.
[tender music]
- [sniffles]
Lou in his powder blue suit...
[sobbing] I wish...
- That everything didn't get ruined, I know.
Ms. Grady: [sobbing]
- Hey!
Hey, you know, you know what I'm gonna do after this?
I'm gonna tell you a story.
About, about a man who did a bad, bad thing.
Who, who caused a drought
and, and, and brought pain to so many people,
and, and places, and relationships,
and you're gonna see everything that happened
to you, and Lou, and, and the Orchard Grill,
it's really nobody's fault but...
- [whimpers]
- But his.
Daniel: Ms. Grady, I just need you to stay still
for one minute, I've almost got it.
Ms. Grady: Okay.
Okay, thank you.
Thank you.
Ruby: It's okay.
Ms. Grady: Oh, no, no, don't go!
Ruby: You're okay, you're okay!
Lou: Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
Ms. Grady: [sobbing]
Lou: Hey...
- Freda.
Beautiful Freda.
Ms. Grady: [sobbing]
Lou: Remember those days?
We had the whole world in front of us.
Ms. Grady: [sniffling]
Lou: Those nights in the kitchen,
after closing.
Cleaning up, setting the lights low.
[emotional music]
Putting on the music, those old songs.
? My wild Irish rose ?
? The sweetest flower I know ?
? You may search everywhere, but none can compare ?
? To my wild Irish rose ?
- [sniffling]
?
[crying softly]
- Ha, that's it!
Ms. Grady: [sobbing] Get me out of here.
- You can do it!
- Pull!
Ms. Grady: [groans]
Lou: Yeah, you're doin' it!
You're doin' it!
Daniel: You got her?
Ruby: Yeah!
Come on, that's right!
Yeah, almost there!
Daniel: Yes, you got it.
Lou: It's okay, Freda, you're safe now!
Ms. Grady: [crying] Oh, thank you.
[gentle music]
[indistinct chatter]
Ruby: Hey!
[laughs]
Brea: Go ahead.
Here!
Daniel: So Brea did get you to come!
Brea: I always do, one way or another.
Wally: Well, I wasn't going to.
But Brea thought you could all use some advice
on this empty nest business.
Thought I could help.
Pass those biscuits, Ms. Grady!
Ms. Grady: There ya go.
Happy Thanksgiving, Wally.
Wally: Same to you.
Brea: Hi!
- So, um...
did you believe all that stuff
about Tom and the drought?
- Maybe.
- Yeah.
- But one thing I do know, either way,
we could've been less selfish at the time.
- We?
We.
- [laughs]
- Well, are ya ready?
[laughs]
- Ah!
- [laughs]
- The tofu abomination is served!
All: [laugh]
- You're gonna love it, it's my secret recipe.
- I doubt it.
Unless the secret ingredient is actual turkey.
- Ha!
No chance.
- [laughs]
Ruby: We've all got our specialties.
My mom's sweet potato pudding,
Lou and Freda's simmering sauciness,
and the calling card of a certain pile of rocks
I know seems to be
putting fractured relationships back together.
It is nice to see our storied couple
trying to make things work again.
And even though they blame the turkey
for their Thanksgiving troubles,
they know they own their own choices.
And do they believe that our Tom
had a hand in their ruination?
There have been so many stories
swirling around about the well
that maybe they do,
which means maybe
another piece of the secret is out there.
Meanwhile, the Tom
that brought us all back together
was officially pardoned
after it made its way home too.
An instinct as refined as bees'.
And Aria's.
Oh!
I, uh, heard through the grapevine
you were worried about me leaving for school?
- Grapevine, that's a word you use?
- [chuckles]
Okay.
Heard it from Brea.
But...
I just, uh, wanted to let you know
that I'm worried too.
- You are?
- Yeah!
Yeah, I mean, who knows
if the well will even let me go, right?
- I suppose.
- But, um...
there's no version of my life without you in it,
you know that, right?
- Sure.
Pudding pals forever.
Promise?
- Promise.
[clink]
[chuckles]
But not with pecans.
- No.
Both: [chuckling]
[soft music]
