but it's also a good one,

because it begs the question,

how do you grant someone's wish
without actually granting it?

I thought the whole point
of the well

was to give people
their heart's desire.

Ruby: What if we helped someone
change their heart's desire?

- That would
change their wish.

Mina: But how are we gonna
get your grandpa

to not want the well
to let you be forever?

just how much the well
has done for this town.

Well, it's been months

how many towns
with magical wells

simply don't exist anymore.

just like Tom.

it was too quiet.

Grandpa O: He was nowhere.

My heart was in my throat,
I wasn't sure why.

- Daniel!

- What I saw next made
my blood run cold.

Young Daniel: [screaming]

- My brother, my own brother,

holding Daniel
over the mouth of that well.

A hundred and fifty foot drop.

I knew I'd lost
my brother then.

Young Daniel: [crying]

- You've lost your mind!

Tom: [panting]

Grandpa O: We hardly spoke
after that.

What was the point?

He, he tried to kill my son.

Tom was the most loving,
kindest, gentle person

I've ever known.

But the well took him anyway.

Just like it'll take you
if you don't get away.

- Yeah, my thoughts exactly.

- [sighs]

- So you're telling me
my whole life

a near killer was lurking
in the woods

like a donut's throw away
from my house?

Mina: A donut's throw?

Why would you be
throwing donuts?

- I wouldn't, I'm just hungry.

The point is, I had
one of those neighbors,

like, on the news.

- He was quiet,
kept to himself,

no one knew

he was such a dangerous
child-thrower-down-a-weller.

- 'Kay, but seriously,
this is crazy.

At the same time...

Mina: Maybe he's right.

to be worried

between a nuisance

and a problem
depending on the day.

sometimes he'd take it,
sometimes he'd get angry.

Ruby: Was Tom dangerous?

This is what my mom used

- Thing is, we can't actually
solve this wish

until we know
what really happened that day.

Sam: And the only person there

but, it was just a split second

until hands grabbed me
just in time.

Young Daniel: [screams]

It was Tom.

Tom saved my life.

- But that's not
what Grandpa O saw.

He said Tom was holding you
over the well

like he was gonna drop you
like a murderer.

- No, he was wrong.

Ruby: He thought Tom was evil,
but he wasn't.

This changes everything.

This gives us a chance
to change Grandpa O's mind,

change the wish.

[door opens]

Grandpa O: Ah-ha, there you are.

Yeah, Liam.

Yeah, I found it, copy
of the last will and testament.

Man 3: [over phone] Yeah?

Grandpa O: Same as the copy
we found at the courthouse.
