Original subtitles

[Ross] Oh, no, it's blocked.

Man, we get beat on the same shit every week.

[Ross] That's Kyree Moyston, right in the thick of things.

Sometimes, I get carried away.

[Vick] Keep your composure, man.

That's what you get if you didn't do shit the right way.

I'm gonna try to get a spot for Otto.

Izzy come to me like he want a red shirt.

Kevon was back. I felt like

it wasn't the right time to put him back in.

I couldn't help the team. I was mad.

Y'all can see me right now! I don't care!

[Vick] If you want to lose a lot of games, be undisciplined.

[opening theme music]

[crowd cheers]

When I came in, we like, we got Coach Vick.

I'm like, okay,

we're going to be something this year.

We was not something this year.

Michael Vick has to figure it out.

[announcer] Delaware State beat Norfolk State.

Delaware State did what they were supposed to do,

but Norfolk State did a lot to help them lose.

You got to do better, Michael Vick.

Change needs to come.

[Vick]

Norfolk State is just simply not good.

You know, got to get ready for the future.

Got to make some changes.

As this season starts to narrow down,

recruiting is going to be opening up soon,

so you gotta start to think about the roster moves.

I have to talk to the coaches about the players that we have,

because I know there's players that I got to replace.

We not going to waste our time or waste another year

with players that we are unsure about.

We need to know we going after this portal.

-Yeah. -And their high school.

It used to be, you have a senior who's graduating,

and you replace him with a kid coming out of high school.

But now, starting in 2018, a player can transfer

out of your school at his own will,

going through the transfer portal.

The portal is where I can recruit experienced players

from other college football programs.

The guys who are not working out at Norfolk State

end up entering the portal

to try to find any other schools to play for.

Some of these guys, I wish I could retain,

but some of these guys, I know they're going to leave.

Players now can transfer

from any institution as many times as they want.

[Vick] It's a game of musical chairs.

You gotta retain the right players and pinpoint

and pinpoint the guys that you can do without.

We have to make the right moves.

It's a lot of variables.

Yeah, you gotta compete.

Kids are on the move.

With this transfer portal,

it's like the Wild West, so you can't really plan for

somebody to be at your program for three years as a starter.

[Vick] We got 30 seniors leaving.

We got like ten that's going to be in the portal.

The transfer portal makes it difficult to hold students,

but we also know this is

our opportunity to really build the program.

[Vick] We're having a losing season.

So, you can believe that I'm gonna bring in

some heavy hitters.

Moving forward, every practice I watch,

and every game.

The undergrads all have to show me

that they're worthy of being here.

I know it's going to be super key to who stays,

and who I replace with players in the portal.

It's a very critical time.

I got a guy who's sending me some junior college transfers

out in Georgia. He got a left tackle

that's 6'6, 335. He looks so good.

Let's go, Special Teams!

What you all standing around for? Let's go!

[Vick] Damn it. Some ugly kicks, man. Damn.

Dude is not going to be around next year.

What has been the issue for us all season is Special Teams.

[Ross] The kicking game is a problem.

And it is blocked.

Another misfire.

[Day'lan] Oh, my Lord.

I don't think I've ever seen more blocked punts

for a touchdown, blocked field goals,

in my life.

It's really hard to watch.

It's taxing.

Special Teams kind of personified this season.

[Ross] Marco Perry misses.

He didn't make that? I'm about to go

beat the bottom of his goddamn feet.

You can't make excuses.

You have to make these kicks.

[Ross] And the kick is no good.

[Craig] It kind of leaves everyone just demoralized.

Like, hey, you guys are only on the field for

a few plays a game. Don't mess it up.

Doing field goals, punts, and kickoffs is hard.

You want to improve and get better,

but we just do worse and worse and worse.

Everyone does their part, and you miss, it can make or break

the whole game. It's a terrible feeling.

[Ross] Special Teams continue

to be a problem for the Spartans.

We being ourselves.

This shit is crazy.

[Vick] Guys playing their hearts out,

and we losing on punts and kicks.

Easiest play in football. Extra point.

My heart can't take this. I'm just being honest.

That shit is unacceptable. I'm tired of it, y'all.

How are y'all feeling?

Good.

Keep pushing them. Keep teaching them.

Yeah.

[Vick] I've learned a valuable lesson this season.

You gotta get 60, 70 guys

just like Day'lan Long to make your team better.

See, I can trust y'all.

I know I always been able to trust y'all,

since day one.

[Day'lan] This is my last season.

We were like the worst football team in the world.

Only got three games left.

So, every play matters.

I got to make the most of my opportunities,

'cause if I don't, everything in the future is gone.

[Vick] Go get 'em, Otto. There you go.

Take it down, baby. That's a check down.

Vick talked to me about the last games.

Even though we can't win the MEAC, they still matter.

Gonna see your stats, gonna see the team play.

I got a great record,

but I got to put some plays on the field

because I'm trying to go play at the next level.

So, I'm still playing for something.

What's up, Vick?

-Man, I got to talk to you. -Uh-oh.

[Vick] Pastor Smith has been helpful in so many ways.

He got a great relationship with the players.

[Pastor Smith sighs] Me and Izz been talking.

Please talk him into staying.

I definitely didn't see this coming.

Izzy hitting the transfer portal,

us parting ways.

When I committed to Izzy,

it was about us being together, building, him learning.

But as to where he ends up and what happens,

it's totally up to Izzy.

-I appreciate you. -I got you.

-What's up? -How are you?

[Vick] Come on, Otto. Let's have us a little moment.

A lot going on, man.

I feel like we had this conversation where we sat down--

how many times you came to my office?

-About four or five? -A couple times.

[Vick]

Keep pushing you, dawg. You say,

"I don't wanna do reps. [bleep] your reps."

With some of the situations this year, it was it was hard

going into a coach's office

and hearing him say, we're gonna start the other guy

after you just felt like you proved yourself.

And now when I'm looking at the body of work

for the whole year, I'm more concerned about your future.

It's not easy getting to the next level,

especially when you're not winning.

But Otto, he knows what needs to be done.

How do you feel right now?

I ready to put all the first few games behind.

Yeah, I'm proud of how far you've come.

The ups and downs.

Just having thick skin throughout everything

-and battling. -[Ross] And the Spartans win.

What I need from you is just to keep everybody together,

keep 'em playing with confidence,

having the right attitude about it.

You take care of that,

I'm going to do everything I told you

I was going to go for you.

I can help you find an agent,

-because that's what you want. -Sure.

Him giving those words,

like no matter what happens, the plan is still the plan,

we're going to get you where you want to go.

You should be excited

about the opportunity you got ahead of you.

Every call you make, every pass you throw,

could potentially be big plays.

It's gonna be contingent on what you do.

People who watch and see it on film, everything matters.

We'll see how the story get written,

but just play well, finish strong.

-Sure. -Regardless of how it go.

We ain't gotta win the game. I'm gonna be in your corner.

-Appreciate you, bro. -Sure.

I'm proud of you.

[Kijafa]Hello.

-What's up, my lady? -Hey, baby.

[Vick]Calling you before we get to the 90-minute mark.

You ain't going to be able to use the phone.

So, what's gonna happen at this game today, Coach?

I don't know. We're gonna come out

and attack them on offense, I do know that.

And then, Otto, it's gotta be his game.

He gotta step up, put the team on his back.

-Have a good game. -All right, love you.

-Get this win. -Get this dub.

[Kijafa] Do you want some champagne or wine?

I couldn't go to the North Carolina/Central game,

but I invited my girls over,

and I wanted us to have a good time

where we could just relax and chill

and just watch the game.

You know football?

-Not really, but I pretend to. -[laughs]

We want Coach Vick to win.

We do want Coach Vick to win.

Come on, Coach Vick!

Turn this shit up, let's go!

NCCU, they're top contenders in the MEAC every year,

so that would be a great knock off.

We gotta win this one, man.

[Kevon] I know the scouts on my film,

so going into the Central game,

my mindset was, it's gotta be the best game I had all season,

because my goal is, at the end of the season,

go to the League.

[Terique] Going into NC Central was a great opportunity

to have NFL scouts see us up close,

so hopefully somebody will see

and give me a chance, an opportunity.

[Vick] Go show them who's boss.

You're not a 1-8 football team. Let's go!

[Ross] Kuhns drops back.

And there's Dre Kendrick near the sideline.

-Nice. Downhill. [Ross] He'll find his way

all the way down

-to the 20-yard. -Yes, sir.

[Ross] Set up for the field goal. Marco Peery to kick.

[Vick] Have them get the operation right.

I don't wanna see no more missed kicks.

[Ross] And it's blocked.

-It is blocked. -Damn.

[Ross] Special Teams have been a problem all year.

[Marco] I've never experienced a season like this.

And you don't really get used to getting kicks blocked.

But the show must go on.

It's a momentum killer if you let it be.

[Ross] Spartans with the ball after an Eagles field goal.

Kuhns hands it off to Kevon King, who finds a hole,

breaks upfield for a huge gain

-down the sideline. -Go, Kevon.

[Ross] Spartans inside the ten.

Hand off to Evans. He plows downhill

into the end zone.

Yes sir.

[cheering]

[Vick] Turn that shit up! Let's go.

-All right, lock in, baby. -[Ross] Eagles on offense.

And this will go for NC Central touchdown.

If one guy's not in the spot,

it could be a touchdown or a big play.

[Ross] Spartans need a hole to get momentum back here.

-And we have a penalty. -Is that on them?

[Ross] And it's a personal foul on Kyree Moyston. Another one.

-[Vick] Come on, Kyree! -[Day'lan] If somebody try him,

Kyree just gets trapped in the moment.

Think about the consequences.

They can make or break your season.

-Calm down. -[Vick] Kyree, always

one step forward, two steps back.

You know I think the bottom line is this, man.

If you consistently do the same thing,

how can I expect you to change?

[Ross] Kuhns, back to pass.

-But Braxton is all over it. -God, dawg.

[commentator] Number 15!

Play keep-away with the defense.

Man, see it, pre-snap it,

and trust it. You hear me?

The boys are gonna protect you. Talk to 'em.

I got on my Norfolk State hat.

Let's go, right?

Spartans traveling. Kuhns finds Kam Thomas.

He shakes the tackle,

and he'll take it in for the touchdown.

Norfolk State is right back in this game.

[Otto] The touchdown to Kam.

Everybody else is gonna see it and be like,

we can still win the game.

[Ross] Now Otto Kuhns with the chance

to give the Spartans a lead

against the North Carolina Central Eagles.

Kuhns takes the snap.

Steps up to the pocket, rolling left,

and barely gets rid of it.

And he's tackled to the ground.

[Vick] Oh my God.

[Otto yells in pain]

No! No! My foot is on fire.

-Don't think about it. -[Otto] No, no, no, no, no.

[Ross] We have an altercation on the field.

Yo, yo, stay back, stay back!

Stay back, stay back!

[Ross] And it's blocked.

Tired of seeing the [bleep] on Special Teams!

That shit is embarrassing!

I've given them everything.

Maybe my time has come to an end.

I can't take this shit no more, man.

[Ross] Kuhns takes the snap.

Steps up to the pocket, rolling left,

and barely gets rid of it.

And he's tackled to the ground.

[Otto yells in pain]

[Vick] Oh, my God.

Oh!

[Ross] And Otto Kuhns is down.

[pained yelling]

Oh, no, no, no, no, no. No!

[Vick] Chill, chill, chill, chill.

[Otto] Please, please, please, please!

[Vick] Come on, we got you, we got you.

[medic] You've got a dislocation.

[Vick] You got a dislocated shoulder, too.

[Otto] Oh, no, no, no, no, no.

My foot is on fire. No, my foot is on fire.

[Vick] Don't think about it. Don't think about it.

I saw X was down the sideline.

I'm thinking touchdown, If I get it to him.

I try to turn and hit a little jump throw real quick.

But when I came down, I knew something was wrong.

Felt like someone had a lighter down there,

because it was just overwhelming.

It was all the way through my body.

[Otto yelling in pain]

[Vick] We're gonna get this shit right.

My priorities at the moment is to be the father figure,

the confidant that I'm supposed to be

for every single player on this roster.

[Terique] With the pain he was in,

never a situation you want to see your brother in,

especially when you believe in your quarterback

as much as you do.

[sad exclaiming]

Oh, this is bad.

Coming back stronger than ever, baby.

Coming back stronger than ever.

We got your back. 1,000%.

[Makai] Knowing the trials and tribulations

that he has fought through

to be in this moment right now,

to see his senior season end like this is sad.

Vinson, get ready.

[Ross] With Izzy Carter redshirting

the rest of the year and unavailable,

Coach Vick will bring Vinson Berry in as quarterback.

Berry started the season as a third string quarterback,

but now he's about to see his first game action of the year.

[Vick] Come here, V. Take what they give you.

It's a lot of opportunity out there.

Play with confidence.

[Vinson] I hate to see Otto go down,

but it just clicked, like,

now you gotta show the preparation

you've been doing behind closed doors.

It's time to put it on display.

Let's go, Vins.

[Ross] Inside the red zone

Vinson Berry throws throws a strike to Kam Thomas.

-Touchdown! -And he's in for the touchdown.

Yeah, V! Yeah, V!

[Ross] Welcome to the game, Vinson Berry.

[Kijafa cheers] High-five!

[Ross] Eagles get the field goal,

and now, the Spartans will punt.

[whistle blowing]

And after the run back,

we have an altercation on the field.

[Kyree] The emotions is high,

and we just lost a good kid, our starting QB.

Yo, yo, stay back, stay back, stay back.

[Vick] I understand what's going on with Otto,

it's emotional. That's your brother.

[player] Hey, yo!

[Vick] But fighting in between plays,

it's not beneficial for anybody.

No fighting in football.

All right, we got to get it back, man.

[Ross] Berry hands it off to Kevon King.

He cuts near side, and he's loose.

Accelerating to the sideline looking for the angle.

And Kevon King will race

all the way for a 16-yard run.

Nice, Kevon.

It finally feels good to showcase all your abilities.

I had this in me the whole year.

It means a lot to me, because

it's a better chance for me going to the League.

Take what they give you, V!

[Ross] Berry looking right.

Vinson Berry has met the moment,

and we have a one-score game

with two and a half minutes left.

[cheering]

[man] Vinson, great job, man.

[Terique] At this point in the season,

to just get thrown into the fire

and be expected to execute,

it's not an easy thing to do at all.

[excited chatter]

We're going to get this.

[Ross] It all comes down to this.

Norfolk State down by three with time running out.

[Vick] Do this for Otto, man. Let's do this for Otto, baby.

[Ross] Spartans need a first down here,

or it's game over.

We only got one timeout. You gotta go for it.

[Ross] Berry rolling to his left,

looking deep, the pressure coming.

And he'll be taken down and sacked.

[Vinson] I came in and kept us in the game,

but we didn't win the game.

So, I feel like there's a lot more I could have done,

especially on that last drive, not taking a sack

and just not coming through,

it's definitely kind of demoralizing.

[Makai] Losing like this was definitely heartbreaking.

Definitely disappointing.

You don't want to see any player go down,

but especially at QB in a conference game like this

when we could have won this,

it's tough.

[Kijafa] One in nine.

That's our record. One in nine.

Watching this game, I know he's mad.

I know he's frustrated.

I wish I was there to support him,

because I know he wanted his family around,

and I feel kind of bad.

Way to battle. Way to come here

and throw your two touchdowns

It's something you learn from,

you know what I'm saying?

This was an emotional one.

Thinking about the team.

Thinking about Otto's injury.

I knew it was bad,

but it all started to sink in then

this was a tumultuous season

capped off by losing your starting quarterback.

Sorry, I got to go, man.

I ain't talking no media.

I don't want to talk about shit.

The summary of our season right there in a nutshell.

Damn.

[Kijafa] Otto get hurt yesterday?

-He's in the hospital? -[Vick] He in the hospital.

We're gonna hit the portal for what we need.

Everybody's under evaluation. And I mean everybody.

-[Ross] It's blocked! -Yo, get the ball!

[Ross] And the Bears pick it up.

I can't take this shit, bro.

-Daddy! -What's up?

Otto get hurt yesterday?

-He's in the hospital? -Yeah, he's in the hospital.

He gotta go back to Ohio.

Yeah, he tore his ACL, PCL...

MCL, got some nerve damage.

He was holding his leg, and I seen

it was pointed the other way,

and then I was just like, oh, one of those.

I even shed a tear on the sideline yesterday.

Like, I do feel like your team is like putting up a fight.

Our team, we got a good team.

Like, they really hanging in there.

Every loss hurts, because I know how bad he wants to win.

I know how much he is giving to his team,

but he can't focus on the loss.

He has to focus on the next week.

It's Senior Day, next game.

Otto not gonna be able to, like,

come out with that, right?

-Yeah. -Like his family?

Yeah, we'll have somebody come out and represent for him.

[Aisha] Feeling all right?

Yeah. Not too bad.

Yeah, so I don't remember too much of the play I got hit,

but I remember looking at Vick, and he was like,

-"Yo, we got you." -We got your back 1,000%.

It was nice to have someone at least a little bit calm

in the situation.

[Otto] You wanna do the, uh...

-You ready? -The hinges.

-Oh for sure. -Oh, yeah.

So, surgery's scheduled for the 24th.

-[Erich] Too much? -A little bit, yeah.

That's swelling.

Two months, they said I should be able to walk,

and then six months is run.

Twelve to a little longer than that is full recovery.

Got some medicine just in case, too.

You remember to take that.

Tough to deal with,

but once I do get back to full strength,

I'm trying to get back to play football.

I've been playing for 18, 19 years.

One injury isn't going to scare me away.

This doesn't look like no Dunkin', though.

[Erich laughs]

[Aisha] So, does everybody know that you're coming?

Or just a few people?

Day'lan called me yesterday,

and I told him, don't spread the word, if you can.

I'd like it to be a little surprise.

They showed a lot of love, so

I gotta go see 'em one more time.

When I brought up going to Senior Night,

it was definitely some like,

"You sure? Wait, really?"

You know that's this weekend, right?

And a nine-hour car ride.

But we'll take a few stops. We'll make it there.

I just got to see the team again.

[Aisha] Hey, we got to move your life back here.

[Erich] I forgot about all that stuff.

Hope it all fits.

White 80, set, hut!

-Let's go, baby. -[whistle blows]

Lock in, stay focused.

No. That's how you get sick.

[Mike Jr.] Please.

[Vick] That's how you get sick.

-Daddy... -Hm?

Two years.

Twenty-three.

And where the hell did that question come from?

I try to be real about everything with my son,

because I'm trying to prevent him from doing anything

that's going to put him in harm's way in life.

I want him to avoid the mistakes that I made.

[reporter] NFL star Michael Vick

has pleaded guilty to dog-fighting charges.

[man] His involvement in dog-fighting ruined his life.

He had everything, and now he's got nothing.

[Brenda] The dog-fighting, that really hurt.

It was like a great cloud

over my head every single day.

I know my brother got into dog-fighting,

because we kind of grew up seeing those types of things.

I mean, we should do it right here. Right there.

There were relationships growing up

that I probably should have severed,

but I was a professional football player.

I never thought that I would end up in that situation.

[Boddie] Any time that you incarcerated,

you're away from your family.

And I think that's what affected him the most.

[Kijafa] Everything got thrown into my lap.

I was now in charge of money.

I was now talking to lawyers.

Just figure out life on my own without Michael.

But we got through it.

It made us stronger as a family.

He learned from his mistake.

[Vick] I wanted to make amends

with the animal rights groups,

my family, and the NFL.

I wanted to come back out and be super successful,

it took discipline. It took hard work.

It took the right people.

Let's go, baby. Keep the energy.

All the stuff he's going through football-wise

ain't nothing compared to what he's gone through.

We all in this together, baby.

And that's why I'm so hard on my team.

Because I know it's easy to slip up and go backwards.

Hut!

He just asked me how many months was I in jail for.

Shit came out of nowhere.

[interviewer] How does the offense of identity

and play style change with Berry at the helm now?

I don't think it changed at all.

Vinson can do some things that might surprise some people.

For Vinson to come off the bench

and play hard for his brother,

it was really a proud moment for me as a coach

because I've been telling Vinson,

you just never know when your time gonna come.

My first Senior Day is going to be special.

These guys have dedicated themselves for four years.

This is it for them.

This is their football life.

This game with Morgan State

is the Senior Appreciation Day game.

It's an opportunity

for the seniors on the football team

to get recognized for their being student athletes,

however long they were at Norfolk State.

It's their home field, home institution.

They probably there for four years.

So being able to recognize them, honor them on the field

that day is very important.

Time to just [?] for my seniors,

guys that took me under their wing

and especially Otto.

This year was definitely a disappointment.

We have lost in ways that I just cannot stand,

but I'm not going to give up.

I will put every last bit of effort that I can

to get to that next level. As a senior,

with it being the last home game,

-I really want to win. -My only prayer is that,

they get to go out, you know, with a bang.

[hip hop music playing]

[player] Hut!

[player] You ready?

All right, man. The time has come.

This is our first practice with Vinson

since Otto's injury.

So, just monitor him really, really close

and make sure he's locked in and ready to go.

There's still a lot to play for, man.

Everybody's under evaluation. And I mean everybody.

Quarterbacks, defensive linemen, offensive linemen.

We can hit the portal and be done with it.

So, if you think that these last two games don't count,

you're sadly mistaken.

[Vinson] Morgan State week,

what I'll say to my guys is just

they can be confident, because I'm confident in myself.

Just gonna let V get in a rhythm,

we ain't gonna ask him to do too much.

Just short route snags. Plutos.

I think he's gonna do great.

I think he's gonna do good.

When I was talking to him that day...

Let us have a conversation real quick.

Ultimately, Izzy decided the red shirt.

That means he won't play again for the remainder of the season.

That shit kind of hurt.

Because I did so much for him, you know what I'm saying?

Izzy might be hitting the transfer portal.

I don't know what's happening with him next year,

but ultimately, it's for him to decide.

I know that I'm gonna have opportunities

the rest of my career,

and it was his best for me to red shirt

and to save my years, because I'm trying to figure out

what I need to change for my goals.

And sometimes, it can be overwhelming

with big time decisions like that.

With Izzy stepping back,

it was really a great opportunity for me.

[Makai] I definitely got trust in Vinson.

I seen the preparation, I know the work he put in,

and the moment is not too big for him.

[Vinson] I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia.

My mother, she passed away when I was 11 years old.

My auntie and my dad took me in.

I was really a baseball kid. And then in middle school,

I tried out for the football team.

I was playing receiver at first.

When I got to high school, they tried me at quarterback,

and I really fell in love with it.

Growing up in Atlanta,

when Michael Vick was on the Falcons,

I seen the greatness at a young age.

I'm a big believer in divine intervention,

so I just feel like God brought me here.

Me being a backup quarterback,

I've been preparing to be a one since spring.

Football, really, is all I got.

My biggest thing is just

putting it all together for our next season.

It's definitely like an audition.

These last two games,

I definitely got something to prove.

So, no better time than right now to show I belong here.

I'm gonna put my all into it,

and that's what you're gonna get every day.

-[shouts play] -There you go.

Ready? Hut.

-[Vick] There you go, V. Work. -[whistle blows]

Just work through it. Just relax.

Give him a nice soft ball.

It's not easy, especially as a quarterback

to, you know, not play

and not know when you're going to play.

But this is his opportunity

to put some stuff on tape, and put himself

in the best positions for the future.

[Vinson] My adrenaline rushing. I'm moving too much.

If you don't like it, you ain't gotta throw it.

[Vick] Vinson has the tools to win.

I'm just hoping I can get him ready by Saturday.

There it is.

-Let's go, go, go! -There you go.

The ones he complete, we gotta be like, "Yeah!"

And the ones he don't, "Come on, V. Keep going."

If he want a spot for next year,

now it's his moment to seize it.

Let's play for 4, man. He went out strong.

Let's rally around V, our quarterback.

And let's go out and and get a win this week.

[players] Amen.

I just can't wait to see him.

[Ross] Kyree Moyston takes him down.

[Vick] No! Damn, Kyree!

Stop celebrating!

-Hey, can y'all hear me? -Yeah.

-Sup, my dawgies? -How are you feeling?

Where your mind at? Everything good?

I don't really know how to feel, bro.

I'm just trying to be as positive as possible.

Cause if I stay on last week,

shit won't get better this week.

That's the thing with the team sports.

You gotta control what you can control.

At the end of the day, you're putting your stuff

-on film. -Fact.

Don't think about the season, how it went,

like you still got a pro date,

you still might get invited to an All Star...

-Fact. -...but still a lot

of opportunities out there to be seen.

Yeah, I'm just blessed to have my brothers.

When you going through football things,

you want to have somebody to raise your spirits.

-I need them. -When Pops got out, bro,

my whole mood been changing.

I'm pretty sure Dave feel the same way.

But those last few years of him not being there,

it was like a big impact.

We already know he wasn't perfect,

but he was what we needed.

Oh, definitely gave us that hunger, that hustle.

Know that we proud of you.

But however this stuff goes, we proud of you.

Know that, dawgie.

You coming to the game, Tyler?

-For sure! -For sure!

-All right, later, dawgies. -You, too, man.

See y'all in a minute.

-What up, gangster? -Hey buddy, you straight?

-All right, you know. -Just get into it.

Food, so word, man, how you feeling about this?

I put in all this work.

And it ain't going our way.

Psh. Not at all, bro. Nobody's way.

[Kyree] Even though our record is what it is,

we still get another chance every Saturday.

Every time we step on the field, I want to get a win.

I ain't play too good. Got a flag or two.

You average about three flags a game, though.

Defense. Number 6.

Defense. Number 6.

Defense. Number 6.

We're losing, because we're number one in the nation

in penalties. Just careless mistakes

costing ourselves a lot of games.

It's like any little thing you do,

you're on a thin line, feel me? I know it's tough.

So how that be feeling?

Just gotta stay positive.

Try to stay positive with all this, bro.

It's the hardest thing, trying to stay positive,

especially when we losing.

Now we trying to find reasons to keep going.

People handle adversity in different ways.

This season is not going as best as I want it to go.

So, who knows what the future holds?

Things that happened last week with Otto,

we gotta at least win these last two for him,

make him proud. I know he gonna be watching.

That messed me up, because like, damn.

It can happen to anybody.

I feel like we gonna be able to play for him for sure.

It's just like, nobody on this team

should be playing for no reason.

Because if you on that field,

you out here putting in this work.

You're doing it for something or somebody.

-And if you not-- -There's no reason

for you to be here, you know what I'm saying?

[Ross] That's Kyree Moyston right in the thick of things.

[Vick] That's a face mask.

Look, just keep your composure, man.

Yeah.

[Kyree yelling indistinctly]

[Vick]

-Yeah. -Absolutely.

[upbeat, energetic music plays]

[Pastor Smith] We gonna take you in the back way.

-Thank you so much. -Beautiful family.

[Otto] I'm really excited for the family to come out.

Celebrate me as a senior.

One of the only trips I can take with them

when I'm not on the field or in a hotel the night before.

I get to watch the game,

be with the family the whole time.

Yeah, yeah, baby!

It's all right. You good, bro. You good.

It was actually a surprise. He didn't tell us

he was gonna be there. He just kind of showed up.

What's up, what's up? We'll be back, man.

We'll be back.

[Vinson] It's inspiring seeing him there.

Everybody definitely wanted to play for Otto.

-Hey, V. -Watch the shoulder.

You're good, you're good. No, it's this one.

My throwing shoulder.

All right, we'll see you out there.

[upbeat, energetic music plays]

[announcer] Welcome, Spartan fans.

What's up? How you doing? How you feeling?

-Good? -Feel alright.

Good to see you, man. When y'all get down?

[Aisha] Last night.

Just had your leg propped up the whole time?

-You had the whole back seat? -Yeah.

All right, man. Enjoy the game, man.

I see you in a minute.

[Vick] To deal with an injury that significant,

there's no fun.

You know, the minute you go out the game,

you feel isolated, you feel alone.

So, it was good to see him with his family.

Good to see him smiling.

It was a good spirit. It was a good energy for us.

[Dr. Webb] You saw Otto already?

Man. Spartan through and through.

They gonna play for him today.

Seems like yesterday, we just got here,

and now, I'm already recruiting junior college players.

Marty. My head ready for the portal.

It's my job to be

somewhat of the general manager of this team.

I still got to continue to find out which guys

of our guys, who can make this program elite,

because that's what I promised AD Webb that I would do.

All these junior college players,

nobody's asking for money, NIL,

they just want an opportunity.

All of them good students.

I can't wait to get them here.

[announcer] Welcome, Spartan fans.

Today, we proudly pause to honor the 2025 senior class.

Senior Day is always an important day,

because that's the last time

many of those student athletes will be on the field.

So, I think that's really important

and how we build that student athlete up

and get them ready for the next step

or the next journey in their career.

What's up, Pops? Yo! What's up, my man?

I got to walk with my family,

and that's what means the most to me in my life.

This was a great time making them proud.

[Vick] What's up baby?

That's your little man?

We got another Spartan right there, huh?

It's definitely cool to have my family out there.

It's also my son's first game.

Something that I'll always remember.

Sup! TJ!

TJ!

To see my brother Tyler,

my nephew TJ, my mother, my sisters,

I was very grateful.

[David] Appreciate y'all coming over here

to watch the game with me.

This is a special day for Day,

it's his senior year.

-Yeah, yeah! -What's up?

My pops, since he just got out

and being able to watch the game at home,

it just felt great. You know,

I'm excited to play for him.

[David] Let's get it, baby!

It's just very emotional, man.

I haven't seen him since I've been home.

And I just can't wait to see him.

OK, I love you, man. Handle your business.

All right, man.

[announcer] We now recognize number four, Ethan Otto Kuhn...

Right in the middle, Mom.

...who has led the Spartans on the field

as a standout quarterback.

[Day'lan] It was good seeing him out there, man.

Just seeing him with a smile on his face

and seeing him be, like, still him.

[Vick] Special shout out! Special shout out! Let's go.

[Day'lan] I know he came out to support us.

He came out for his guys. He came out to be a leader.

That's a tough kid.

[Otto] The plan after this

is definitely to come back playing football.

Football is a roller coaster sport.

It's a lot of ups and downs, injuries.

You can get benched, not play for a whole season.

So, hope's a big part. It keeps your mind in the game.

[Vick] Win these last two, man. Let's get up out of here.

I know for sure that he'll come back stronger

with all the rehab that he can do now.

And it may take a year, it may take two years,

but I do think that Otto will play football again.

My guys, man. Now let's go win us a game, bro!

Let's go get that dub, man.

I have my eyes on your ass. It needs one.

Hey, let's go get 'em, baby! Let's go.

Ross Gordon joined by Don Carey here today

on Senior Day.

Offense, get ready! Let's go! Set the tone!

Going into Morgan State with Vinson,

I'm just looking for poise, I'm looking for accuracy,

and I wanted to see him grow.

[Ross] Berry back to pass, staring down his receiver.

And it's going to be picked off by the Bears.

And that's going to be run back

all the way to the Spartans' one-yard line.

[Vick] Throw it up to grabs.

[Vinson] We say it was nerves involved.

I knew I should have hit those throws.

I knew those are throws I usually make.

[Vick] One play at a time. Let's go!

Without Otto,

the formula is run the football.

Run the football right at 'em. Let Kevon go.

It's his last game at home.

Get him in the game. Get him in the game.

Get him in the [bleep] game!

Goddamn!

One of our best players. I'm sick of this shit!

[Ross] Berry and the shotgun, Kevon King, to his right.

Hands it off to King.

He bolts up the...

and now it's a foot race.

Good luck chasing down Kevon King!

He is going to score on an 80-yard touchdown run!

[Vick] Keep telling y'all, man.

Put the best player in the game, bruh.

[Kevon] When I got the ball,

what I was thinking about

was getting in the end zone.

We just need to come together and finish strong.

We're gonna do that all day.

[Vick] Go get it, V!

[Ross] Berry and the gun, takes the snap,

finds Kam Thomas on the short end,

and he's going to sprint right for the goal line.

And he's in!

[Vick] Touchdown, baby! Served.

[Ross] Spartans take the lead.

That confidence from your teammates

definitely helps you.

I really felt what it feels like to be a starter,

so that's a big thing for me.

[Vick] Keep it going! Hey! Stay locked in!

[David] Come on, Day! Come on.

[Ross] Bears in shotgun. Flushed out of the pocket,

rolling right, chased by Day'lan Long.

And Long will bring him--

[cheering, exclaiming]

[Ross] ...by senior Day'lan Long.

Good play, boy! Good play, boy!

[Day'lan] Any time my family is watching the game,

it just makes me play even better.

You know I'm watching.

[Ross] Bears trying to answer.

Handoff and Kyree Moyston takes him down for loss.

Oh, but he got a big piece of the running back's face mask.

-And he's been flagged. -Damn, Kyree!

[Ross] Moyston doesn't seem to realize

he's been called for the penalty.

Stop celebrating!

Kyree, man. He's letting us down.

That's just how it's been all season.

He don't think.

[Vick] He got his face mask, he's celebrating.

I'm going to let Kyree know

when we have stupid things happening

that I don't have time for.

[Ross] A little flare out to the running back.

Nobody home, and it's a touchdown.

And we're tied.

[announcer] Touchdown, Bears.

[Ross] Handoff to Naughton.

And he is blown up by Terique Miles

behind the line of scrimmage.

[Vick] Good job!

Good job.

[Ross] Berry, back to pass.

He fires an arching ball

that lands perfectly into the arms of JJ Evans.

-What a throw. -Oh, we got one!

[Vick] Good job, boy.

If he keeps this up, man,

and we might have us a quarterback.

Yeah!

I think seeing Otto definitely lit a fire under everybody.

We come together as a team.

Everything that we've been working for

is finally paying off.

[Vick] This shit works.

Play smart and play together!

Go get it, V.

[Ross] Spartans get the ball back

with time running out in the half.

Given to Kevon King, who finds a hole up the middle.

And there goes King, blazing down the sideline

all the way to the 25-yard line.

[Vick] Nice, Kevon. That's what we want.

It was awesome to see Kevon get going.

With the two-game suspension,

people had some doubts,

but I knew he was gonna come back strong.

It was nice to see.

[Ross] Just seconds left in the half.

Coach Vick will have to go for the field goal here.

[Vick] Give me one, Marco. Give me one.

[Ross] The kick is up and it's blocked,

landing at the five-yard line.

-Get the ball! -And that's a live ball.

[Ross] And the Bears pick it up.

[groaning, exclaiming]

[Ross] And some of the Spartan players

don't seem to realize they can run this ball back.

-Yo! -I was like, the ball's dead.

The ref's shaking his head no.

-Oh, shit! -[Ross] The bears are streaking

down the sideline, and they will score a touchdown.

Another Special Teams disaster for the Spartans.

[Vick] Probably one of the most embarrassing plays

of the season. That was embarrassing.

I can't take this shit.

This happened in like two seconds.

It's pathetic. It was awful.

[Ross] Bears fire the ball down the middle for a touchdown.

Handoff up the middle.

And it's another score for the Bears.

Berry and the Spartans looking to tie the ballgame.

Berry jumps back, pocket collapses,

and he will be sacked.

And that's gonna do it.

After the wild game,

the Spartans fall on Senior Day.

[Vick] Losing games in this crazy manner,

I'm really hurt, man.

Between the flags, personal conduct,

the lack of focus, sloppy Special Teams...

[Ross] It's blocked!

I've given them everything.

It makes me question

whether I could do this.

Tired of seeing the [bleep] on Special Teams!

Maybe my time has come to an end.

Sorry.

I can't take this shit no more, man.

Same shit every week.

Shit's embarrassing, bro.

I'm embarrassed, bro.

Him and Dre got into it.

He did?

College Football Hall of Fame. I thought

this wasn't going to happen.

Next year will be different.

Y'all gonna move here?

I don't know yet.

Virginia will never feel like home to me.

Oh! Hey, get out the game.

Don't put him back in the game.

After such a rough season, it kind of

makes me question whether I do come back or not.

This might be it. So I'm going to say thank you.
