- Yarn art?
What is it called?

- Fiber arts. Yes.

So macrame is
sequences of knots,

but is actually
considered a type of lace.

- Is it really?

- Yeah, lace at its core is
like, anything that the design

is based on the spaces
between the thread,

versus knitting
or something that, you know,

it's all the threads
themselves.

You use either
a hook for crochet.

You use the needles
for knitting.

For macrame,
you're just using your hands.

- All hands, baby.

- Ooh, so macrame is like,
the sexy version of knitting.

- So we have a small one here.

- It's twisted up.

a sinnet of square knots.

Sinnets are when you
have a row of them.

But half knots, which is just
one part of the square knot--

when you do a sinnet
of half knots,

you get this effect
where it starts to twist.

- A little spiral.

- But yeah, I'm guessing
this one would take 20 hours.

- All right, so not
to be materialistic,

but how about let's get
to the macra-money.

What do you think
these are worth?

- Yeah, this does look vintage,
but it is one that I could

see being just a home project.

But I could see you
selling this for like 30.

- So this one, I'm sure,
took a lot of time,

the most of any of these three.

But one thing to note is that

it does have
some wear and tear.

You can see some fraying
on some of the ends.

You can see some rust stains.

But otherwise, it's in
really good condition.

We rescue exotic animals

I'm bringing a jewelry box
and some choice pieces

that I found to my local
gemologist, Mike,

at Michael Moses Jewelers.

I found this beautiful,
cool little box.

- Great.

- And then there was
a box of jewelry in there.

I picked a few pieces
that I thought

might be diamonds and gold.

- So first off,
what we're looking at

is obviously a jewelry vanity.

The condition could be better,
but it's all original.

And of course, we see some
wear down in this area here,

but it's still a great piece.

Obviously, we're missing the
hidden compartment drawer here.

I'm noticing this
mother of pearl inlay here.

It's got some wear,
and it looks like

it's been refurbished
once in the past,

quite some time ago.

So it's already had its life.

It's still a great piece.

So we're gonna start
with this ring here.

- Okay.

- What we have here
is a marcasite inlay

mother of pearl ring.

This is a period correct 1920s,
hand-fabricated--most of it--

on the back, you can
see how the plate's

been added separately.

What really makes
this ring great

is that it's all original.

The condition
of the ring is a 10.

There's no question about that.

It's over a hundred years old.

It is actually pretty special
to still have one

of these in this condition.

Very cool ring.

So now let's move on
to this lipstick

compact or vanity--whatever
you like to call it.

This piece dates to circa 1920,

just like the other
marcasite ring you had.

So the springs
are both working,

which make it,
in terms of condition,

pretty darn good, right?

Pretty great.

The mirror, not cracked,
not broken,

appears to be the original
mirror in here.

Great piece.

This is a piece I really like.

I really like this piece
for a couple of reasons--

the condition
and I love the patina.

It still has
the original patina.

The style is screaming 1920s.

So for someone who
really likes that style,

I would imagine that they
would be really excited

to see something like this.

I think this is
a really great piece.

A lot of deco pieces
we have here.

As far as styling,
it's the winner.

The stones in here are paste.

- What does it mean when
the stones are paste?

- They are stones
that were developed

in the 18th century
to emulate a diamond, right?

You can get this really big
look for not a lot of money.

People have this idea that
costume jewelry is inexpensive.

I've seen paste necklaces get
into the thousands of dollars.

In fact, there's
a big collectibility

for those necklaces.

- Collectibility?

That means money.

- All right, the earring.

Dave, just like
the other pieces, the condition

is really great
and from the 1920s.

Everything we're looking
at in here is all diamonds.

Quality-wise,
on a scale from 1 to 10,

these are a 9, maybe a 10.

And that's what's great
about older jewelry.

Typically, you're seeing
higher quality diamonds

being used, better color.

Just everything's just
a little bit better.

- There's a better
craftsmanship.

- Absolutely.

So this type of setting
for--that the stone is in

is called a buttercup setting.

'Cause you have this metal
that surrounds the stone

and it makes
the stone look larger.

Quality is really high.

I think they're great.

Now, moving on to
the last item that we have,

this bracelet here--

it's not as old
as these pieces.

- Okay.

- But quality--the weight
of this, Dave,

you can feel the weight
of this.

Lots of diamonds.

Lots of diamonds in there.

- Little diamonds in here,
and little diamonds in there.

You got diamonds everywhere
in that little thing.

Diamonds are
a man's best friend.

- It's all been
hand-fabricated.

You can see that
there's just a lot of work

to make this rivets.

Today, you have these
that are mass manufactured

and then assembled.

It's very heavy.

You wouldn't get a bracelet
today that looks like this

and expect it
to weigh this much.

It's very unusual.

- Mike, what do you think

After we spent the time
going through it,

I think pretty well in detail,
