Original subtitles

That's your trouble. You don't want to

hear anything you don't think you

already know. Well, I'll tell you

something, Cinderella. Your prince

charming has already come. Wake up

before another thousand years go by.

Don't throw me away like some gum

wrapper because you think there's

something about me you may not like.

I have what it takes to give you

anything and everything you want. That

maybe not up here or here, but here.

And that would please me enormously. And

all I ask is that you use your capacity

to be everyone and everything for me.

It's within you.

If we could do that for each other, we

give our kids the universe. They'd be

Shakespeare and and the most beautiful

music ever written and a saint maybe or

or a champion athlete or a president all

rolled into one. Terrific kids. How

could they not be?

We have a chance to make everything turn

out all right again. turn our backs on

everything that went wrong. We can do it

right now and all over again. But we

have to do it right now. This minute,

this room and us.

I know this thing, Frankie.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Give him a round. Come on.

couple of interesting things. Um, and

you all will sort of probably face this

in terms of, oh [ __ ] now I'm in the

round and I've been playing this thing

to a person

who's in one space. It's [ __ ] there.

So, the first challenge in this

particular configuration, and we'll

we'll talk about intentions and other

things in a second, but the first

challenge is, all right, so you've been

doing this monologue. When did you first

start doing this monologue?

Um, a few weeks ago, I did.

Few weeks ago. Okay.

So, you've rehearsed it. You've, you

know, cuz you were going to do it.

You're going to come to a space and they

were behind a table, right? That's the

whole thing, right?

[ __ ] those people.

Okay.

And so, you've been playing it that way,

right?

Now, suddenly you're in a space where

your audience is everywhere.

Yeah.

All right. But you didn't acknowledge

that,

right?

Okay. So what it means is you have to

sometimes in a situation

you have to be willing to absolutely

throw out what you've been doing, what

you how you've been working on something

because the circumstance will be

different.

Okay?

Or a director may say, you know what,

it's very interesting that you um that

you open that piece this way, but I'd

like you to do it like this.

And you have to try as much as you can

to not think that this is a criticism,

okay? but actually go, "Oh, someone

wants me to attack something in a

different way." And very often it's

about exploring. It's about discovery.

It's about all kinds of things. But

sometimes it's just the literally the

physical space is different from what

you thought it was going to be.

Sure.

So, I would make two suggestions. What

is the

main problem that this character is

dealing with with this character that

you're talking to? What is What is the

issue?

Well, we're

romantic partners. Um,

and

so you're [ __ ]

We are [ __ ] Yes.

Got it. Okay. Um, but you but you think

there's something

I think there's something more. And she

doesn't

And she thinks it's just whatever it is,

but you're convinced there's something

more. Right.

So, it sounds to me like there's a sense

that she's trying to move away from you.

Yes.

like not not be close to you.

Yeah.

So, what if you in your then discovery

of how to try to do this in a new space,

you actually made that happen.

Yeah.

That she's moving away from you, that

she's constantly trying to get away.

Okay.

So that you are then practically but

also forced to take in this whole room.

Yeah. Secondly, I would say um

how convinced are you that this is

right?

Pretty convinced.

Then I don't then I don't think you have

to try so hard.

Okay.

If you know

that this is the woman for you and you

are the man for her,

then know that.

Okay?

Because if all you're doing is selling,

that's why she's not buying.

That's the trouble with you. You don't

want to hear anything you don't think

you already know. Well, I'll tell you

something, Cinderella. Your prince

charming has already come. Wake up

before another thousand years go by. But

don't just throw me away like some gum

rapper because you think there's

something about me you may not like.

I have what it takes to give you

anything and everything you want. Maybe

not up here or here,

but here.

And all I ask is that you use your

capacity to be everyone and everything

for me.

It's within you.

If we could do that for each other, we

give our kids the universe. They great.

Now, let's stop for just a second. Do we

have a chair? Can I have a chair,

please?

No chair.

It doesn't matter. Just a chair. Um, I'm

not prejudiced about chairs.

Just whatever [ __ ] chair you have.

Bring it out here.

Uh, oh, a stool.

Chair. Thank you. Chair is much better.

Yes. Thank you.

Sit down.

Okay.

All right. So, here's another little

thing that I'll do occasionally as as

the day goes on. You seem to be somebody

who feels that you need to saw the air

with everything you have to say so that

we understand it.

Okay?

And I want you to sit on your hands

and I want you to just trust the words.

Okay?

Too often we think that the words aren't

enough. And actually when you just start

with the words, trust the words, you

will discover the moments that you need

to actually emphasize something or reach

for somebody in a physical way. Very

often in auditions, we see it all the

time. People are doing so much goddamn

work. Just like [ __ ] Jesus, sit down.

Calm down. Trust the material.

So do it again and stop [ __ ] moving.

Okay.

Back to your trouble. You don't want to

hear anything you don't think you

already know. Well, I'll tell you

something, Cinderella. Your prince

charming has already come. Wake up

before another thousand years go by.

Don't just throw me away like some gum

I know this thing, Frankie.

Very nice. You see the difference?

Very nice. Sit down. Thank you. Thank

you. Thank you.
