We cycled from Germany through 20 countries to Tajikistan and

took you with us on our trip around the world in 20 videos, but this video shows the most incredible

and challenging stage of our journey. We are in Ghudara in one of the most

remote places in the world you don't have to google it, it's here in the middle of nowhere,

it's four days of driving for us outside of civilization to the next village, but in an incredible

mountain backdrop, sometimes over 4000 m high, we're on the tour of our lives.

Hans has had here, of all places, in the last few days 40° Fever and he’s not quite fit yet but we're trying our luck

So things are finally moving on, but I'm not sure if it's a good decision to continue driving today.

I don't feel quite like it yet... it's kind of 50/50 Decision but at some point we to move on,

it's really a hard road. Franzy actually needs me 100% but today I need me 100%.

I'm really excited about where we'll be tonight and the next nights and the next few days,

what's going to happen to us now . First mountain completed 1 km in 40 minutes. Apart from the fact

that being sick really sucks, I long for a challenge like this and it's

not just stupid talk, I'm really serious about it, I believe in situations or for example today or

the next few days where you don't know how to manage it we can grow

We know that a bad decision in this area can be really dangerous because

no one can help us here. That's why we wanted to decide on the way today whether we

should continue driving or turn back. The first piece was really challenging, but

now it's getting better and there are always such beautiful oases here. To be honest, I hate it

Our petrol stove is not working properly, it always turns off, so we already suspected that

at some point on the trip it wouldn't work anymore and it's really difficult to repair it,

but now is really a bad time because there are no grocery stores here. We have to

cook for the next few days, we only have stuff left that needs to be cooked... it turns

off as soon as you pump or what? No, sometimes it just switches off and then I shake it a little

and then it comes on again. There seems to be a blockage somewhere. Oh damn, it really

couldn't be worse. Crap hey. I'll have to get to it tomorrow. We do

n't have internet either... I have operating instructions with me, but will I be

able to do it with them? Oh man, we can cook with wood. true. but from tomorrow we will be

at 4000 m there will be no more trees. it does not work anymore. but has already

cooked. Our tent is down there and here is this windshield

unmotivated the first 3 kilometers where it took us so long and it was so rocky. The

first 3 km were really damn hard and I wasn't feeling well even then, but it improved as

I notice this so much in myself. I'm often like, 'Oh, I'm not motivated and how am I supposed

to do that? and I can't do something like that' I often have these thoughts and

Hans somehow always tries to change my mind and sometimes he succeeds and

when he succeeds, it really doesn't matter how strenuous the day is, I laugh all day

and if I approach it with the attitude that everything sucks anyway, then nothing works. How you feel depends 90%

on your head. That's just really a weapon, but the tables can also turn.

Good morning, it's cold as hell but incredibly beautiful here as the glaciers

are lit up. Today is day X today is gling to be really challenging

we have to push the bikes for about 5km up the mountain. We have huge respect.

since we've been on the road here in this Bartang Valley and some people have told us how hard this

climb is, I've always had my thoughts here and sometimes I was desperate

motivating to be up here now and have really achieved that and now it feels

really free because this burden is lifted, that it will come at some point.

brutal stone track. Oh, you can make quick progress here, we're flying,

wow, now we're here on this big high plateau we were

surrounded by mountains for the last 10 days but now to have this foresight, wow and up ahead are the first 6000m peaks,

what kind of surface is that? like asphalt. We haven't had that feeling for weeks,

it's so incredibly fun here, one of the most beautiful paths ever, crazy,

we're still looking for a place to sleep, it's very windy as you can hear or see,

have to realize all of this the whole time I almost pinch myself that this is happening

crazy, it's so beautiful I could cry. It's quite a struggle to put up the tent, it's really quite a storm here

or gusts of wind. Let's hope that it will die down soon. At least the wind will die down at night.

We've now secured the tent here with the cord. Pegs are thundering in everywhere and

stones have been placed on it. It has to hold Hopefully and again I have no idea whether that will help

building a stone wall. but Franzy, how is it in the tent? great! Really? Yes. I'm really proud of myself

I think we'll reach it tomorrow and that's also the end of the Bartang Valley,

how cool I just saw a marmot running around here. They look a little different than ours, they're

yellow-orange and the tail is totally black but it was definitely a really cool marmot,

hopefully we'll see some more.

I always find it not that easy to coordinate with the water to get by

because sometimes there are really no streams for 50 km and

50 km sometimes means 1-2 days. We'll have to look a bit

, so I would say that building a lot of stalls as a child is paying off.

We're currently running out of energy and we're exhausted because we've

only eaten oatmeal and a bit of bread for the last few days and now we have to see if the

Stove works but if it doesn't... well we just have pasta and onions that would be

completely sufficient. do you find something? I just have no idea how to unscrew the whole thing and

screw it back together again. So far so good, at least there's a fire, please work!

isn't getting as hot as it should normally because we're so high up so we're going to leave them

in there a little longer let. I think they need 15 to 18 minutes to cook.

Be careful, they will foam over immediately. Yes, the noodles don't look that appetizing. a nasty soup,

why exactly? We are at almost 4000 m and the pasta water doesn't get really warm anymore and then

it becomes a really disgusting broth. I think that

the quality of the noodles is also really crappy. So it falls into the edible category. That's a good thing.

when I see the bikes like this. I don't know, I love looking at them. After half a year, I still think

the bamboo is really nice and I mean we've been

on gravel and extremely rocky roads for over a month now and

you can actually say that bamboo is a suitable frame material because

a shepherd family lives here somewhere and

we are very fascinated by people who live in such incredibly remote places. we really want to visit her. So let's see where

Here I believe that this is from Marco Polo sheep. We have heard

that you can see them here but the animals are extremely rare. what

a horn. It's crazy, I imagined them to be much smaller to be honest.

they can't burn firewood here because there are no trees, that's why

all the flatbreads are lined up here to be burned and that's what it smells like when

it comes out of the chimney, so let's show you what it looks like inside.

Flexible wooden poles are used for the frame of the yurt, the walls and

roof are traditionally made from materials such as linen, felt or animal skins,

and the skins of sheep and goats are best suited because of their insulating properties.

We were already in a yurt camp in Kyrgyzstan and the yurts were really beautifully made, I would

the top is open and there are holes everywhere but it's nice and warm here.

and just yogurt and guess that's butter for bread and tea. really cool, they manage

to cook noodles better than we do at altitude, they are so delicious

with such broth and they are also spicy, a poem. Well, we have a really

hard time with yoghurt, it's extremely tricky, I don't think that's a problem. What does tricky mean?

carbonated, right? Yes. We're always not sure if it's healthy.

I think it's just fermented. I think it's just because of fermentation

, but it's incredibly carbonated like Cola, it's really awesome. well we still have butter, I

think yak butter and bread. This looks funny you and the teapot. It's nice and warm, it's warming me up right now, it

's really quite cold, so in winter it gets -50-60°, we were told, it's hard

to imagine, so it's one of the coldest places here. Father Frost is a bit generous.

On the top of the mountain he was just showing us with his binoculars. We

saw Marco Polo sheep, which is probably extremely rare and he was

was happy about the second blanket that we were able to put over it, which they brought us

that it's so much more pleasant to drive here on the stone track or sand track than

on this mogul road and it's really cool to drive. You just have to avoid these bushes

see so many different colors of stone everywhere in the water green, red, blue… Tajikistan is

also a mineral country and we have already seen so many crystals.

I have no idea whether we're still in the right place here. All we know is that it's roughly heading in that direction, towards the mountains

I'm going to go fetch water in the lake now so we can cook pasta. Let's quickly go to the lake, the thing is a kilometer away.

There's a lot of algae on the shore. I don't know if you can see it, but I can't

use that for pasta water. I didn't expect that,

how do I fill the water bag now? What we didn't know here is that the lake has

no outlet and contains brackish water due to its high salt content. okay 2-3 m there

was less algae in there but there is still some in there. have to filter the water again but hey

we can eat. We don't feel like doing it with the right filter now because it's like that

We sleep here for 10 to 11 hours every night. yes, that's so crazy how long

but it wasn't a stream... now I used the filter to get water out of the lake, you can't drink it,

it tastes bitter, extreme, it really tasted really disgusting, we had one yesterday Made soup out of it

and we had to throw half of it away because it had a really strange aftertaste, but

we didn't get any stomach ache. I think it's because it was cooked. but now

we are here. It takes us about 1-2 hours to get to the asphalt road where

there is water and the two of us still have so much water that it's really a disaster.

According to the information on our navigation maps, there should have been a stream up there in the valley that

would have really made our lives easier. yes, there was no one now. We still have a sip, a little

sip now we have to somehow get up the mountain and then I'm looking forward to water

wow wow awesome wah those are these mega rare Marcopolo sheep again wow how they

just raced over here. they race still up the mountain. the last water is not

that much anymore. There's the Pamir Highway up ahead and we haven't seen it for a long time.

I'm just getting a bit emotional after two weeks of getting through here and there's civilization up ahead,

it's exciting the last few meters on washboard, there's tar up ahead.

it just rolls, wow, that's strange Franzy, I really didn't imagine it being so crazy, it's

Wow crap, there was a larger river on the map here, for example, I didn't think it

would be dry. Nothing works, that was a big river on the map.

Then we have to get to Karakol somehow, quickly. Extremely dry throat

or a car is coming soon so as soon as a car comes I stop it. a little

water. OK. The car didn't come anymore but we're really on our toes, I

really can't go there anymore. Hallelujah, I'm happy to see houses and people.

Unfortunately the first well was contaminated but the children sent us to this

well behind a school. Okay, that looks a lot better, that's clearly

a 7 out of 10. You can drink it. Now they just called the shop because of us and

opened it. Now we're shopping, we don't have any food left,

oh man, I thought there would at least be an apple or pasta...

where are they supposed to get an apple? I have no idea, we now have a whole pack of cookies,

chips, garlic and cola here because we absolutely need a bottle because they are so old,

our bottles and water bottles are simply not available anywhere here and 8 times soup noodles

What should we do? We have to somehow survive to the first city in Kyrgyzstan.

Karakol is behind us. That was a really big goal for us for a long time. and where are we going now? to China!

yes, that's our next big goal but we definitely need a break again, so

we're going to put our feet up in Kyrgyzstan for a few days and then we're off to China.

Riding a bike to China is really cool. The Karakoram Highway from China to Pakistan

is even higher than the Pamir Highway but as I said we are going first to Kyrgyzstan,

we will reach the 4300 m high border tomorrow,

about 40 km to the Kyrgyzstan-Tajik border.

Now let's leave Lake Karakul. Bye, I will never

forget the taste of you. That was disgusting. oh my god where is this storm coming from? and with a gradient of 15-20°

we can't get to where we want today. Change of plan: get up early tomorrow.

Wow, the wind is just too strong. We saw this stone down there, I think we'll take the option and camp

there. There's no point anymore, there's no point in wasting your energy and even in the tent when it

's so windy without wind protection it's uncomfortable. The stone there smiles at us and we take it. are definitely

not the first to camp here. The wind often seems to be strong here. It's great here, not as far

as we wanted to get but it doesn't matter. When you look at the lake down there you don't think

we're that high, but we're just at 4200m Franzy. Now we'll definitely have

The last day is starting and we're literally flying on the asphalt road. Above all, we're looking forward to a shower and something different to

the landscape a bit annoying. We suspect that it was newly set up last year because of the

border conflict between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. We don't have

an opinion on it, we just perceive it, but it's a shame because every war and every conflict is pointless...

I'm really wondering where the border station is supposed to be over there,

we're in the middle of the mountains. ah up there, up there it is. Passport control comes out of nowhere

. It was a strange border crossing, everything was completely run down

and there was a strange atmosphere there. Now we have 20 km of no-man's land.

Now we go somewhere 20 km further in that direction until we arrive at the Kyrgyz border at the border post.

At this point, the border with Kyrgyzstan was again closed to solo travelers

, but we had already written an email to the government weeks ago, which meant that our name

was on some list. After four hours of negotiating with the border officials, we were finally able

to pass. Now nothing stands in the way, for our adventures in China and Pakistan
