a long-standing dispute

with the neighbor to the right,
Linda Crosnoe.

She's destroyed
my fence three times.

Every time
I went outside,

I would get chastised

for the fence.

[Robin]
You destroyed my fence!

She was standing out there
in the front yard like this.

[blabbering]
Going off.

[♪ dramatic music playing]

My name is Otis Alston.
This is my Halloween display.

And I got my neighbor
down here.

He's pretty
competitive with me.

There was four or five years
me and him were good friends.

Now, he started
becoming competitive.

Now, he started
trash-talking me.

[Otis] He doesn't even have
the quality of stuff I have.

I feel he might be
a little intimidated by me.

It's pathetic that a grown man
would act like that

based on
a Halloween contest.

Everything that she
is accusing me of doing

are exactly the things
she herself is doing to me.

Worst neighbor ever.

My name is Linda Crosnoe
and my neighbor's Robin Kelly.

Seven years ago,
we began to have problems

and it all began
with the fence.

I put the fence in.
I paid for all of it.

The fence began
to become dilapidated.

We received a letter
telling us

we were required
to give her a brand-new fence.

Good neighbors share the fence.
They keep up the maintenance.

And we told her no.
She didn't like that answer.

That's when she became
vindictive towards us.

I think she's intentionally
placed the hose,

and she's got it pointed
directly at the security camera.

This light's been on
for a week straight.

The constant pulling
on the rope

is destroying our fence.

[Linda] We took a rope
and we hooked an apricot tree

so that it would stay
and grow straight.

[Robin]
It's just a matter of time
before it falls down.

I haven't even put a finger
like that on the fence.

[wind whooshing]

[clattering]

[Robin]
My crazy neighbor succeeded

in destroying my fence.

She figured if she accused me
of destroying it,

that I would again
put another fence in.

This is when
everything got bad.

-[Robin] The wrought-iron fence.
-[Linda shouting indistinctly]

[Robin]
You destroyed two
of my wooden fences.

Why are you harassing
me and my family?

-So it's a civil matter, that's
what you're saying, correct?
-From the evidence--

[Robin] I'm tempted to put
a camera down here.

Think I'm gonna
hook this thing up as well.

I have 22 security cameras.

It's just proof of what's
happened to the fence.

It was a gradual thing,

but it did just get worse
and worse over the years.

But I have to have
that footage

because that's what
they keep telling me.

"Do you have proof
for the judge?

Proof for the police officers
of what's happening?"

I have more pictures of her
on my phone

and on my computer
than I do of my own family.

And that's wrong.

[Linda] She's right there
talking about me.

My goal at this point is to get
the permanent restraining order.

[softly] She wants a permanent
restraining order.

-And to show that...

...we've been trying
to ignore this woman

for the last seven,
eight years.

-But, pretty much...
-No, this has been going on

for more than seven
or eight years.

She's a drama queen.
She really is.

She just called me
a drama queen.

Because she's got
mental problems.

I've never done anything
to the woman, ever.

You know, Robin, I've been
standing here listening to you

for 20 minutes or more,

and I have already heard
blatant lies.

And some of them, darling,
I can prove in court.

As you can see, we need
to leave this area now.

-Yeah, you wanna leave the area?
-I'm out on my side of the house

-and she's already attacking me.

All my neighbors knew
that this is the house,

this is the Halloween house.

I always love when the parents,
the trick-or-treaters,

they're like,
"Oh, we come here every year.

We love your exhibits."

So, they're always new,
fresh every year.

That's the difference between
me and-- and my neighbor, Otis.

[Otis] It's more than just
decorating for me.

When I came along,
there was cars, like,

driving by my house,
not even looking,

stopping at his.

I want that attention.
He lit the fire.

This is his childhood home.
This is his neighborhood.

But now, I came along,
and the attention

is starting to shift
a little bit towards
the corner house.

His display is more
like a museum.

It's more, uh,
store-bought.

Anybody could do that,
in my opinion.

[Otis]
Did he show me things?
Yeah.

But I took it to a level where
I don't need him anymore.

I mean, honestly,
I think he's doing, like,

Halloween on a budget,
lately.

When Otis first moved in,

he would come over
almost practically every day.

And like, "I'm sorry
to disturb you, man.

"My name is Otis,
new neighbor,

and my son just loves
your decoration."

I mean, look at this.
Seriously.

[friend] Oh, the feet--
the feet turned in?

That's such
an amateur move.

[Nelson] He's very competitive
and I'm very competitive.

I do sense he seems
like he's superior now

and doesn't realize,
like, I'm the one

who taught you that.
Don't you remember that?

I mean, obviously, I'm great
at doing Etsy sales, so...

[Otis]
I mean, listen, if you're
dumb enough to buy it,

you look like a fool,
you know?

He just thinks that he's some
great artist or a Picasso.

And I'm sure, you know,
Nelson might be feeling
a way right now.

He might say, "Oh, man,
how can this guy, like,

single-handedly
take down a whole family?"

Nobody wants to lose.

I really wanna win
this competition,

you know, doing this
for so many years

and finally showing people

my potential in doing
arts and crafts.

And it's a matter of respect.

I feel like I could trust
these judges.

You know, they're gonna be
true to their words.

[Patricia Taylor]
There's no story.
And I think it's overkill.

It just doesn't flow
with the rest of the theme.

skeletons is sort of overdone.

We actually started
this competition.

This is basically like
a tradition in our family.

Decoration Competition.

[Donald] It's based
upon quality, quantity,

originality, and creativity.

It's gonna get heated!

[Otis] I got everything
the judges are looking for.

So, I think I'm gonna
walk away
with this win.

[Nelson]
I feel pretty darn confident

I'm gonna win
this competition.

[♪ mellow music playing]

[Robin]
For as long as
I can remember,

for some reason,
I've managed to either be

in front of a camera
or in front of an audience.

I'm currently here
at my computer.

Currently filming part
of a documentary.

So, this
should be interesting.

-[button clicks]
-[camera chiming]

I read an ad in the paper.

It's called
Female Mud Wrestling.

And then, I ended up
wrestling Andy Kaufman.

Pinned him not once,
but twice.

I started doing a bunch
of adult magazines,

moved here to Simi Valley,
California.

No more Hollywood.
No more Las Vegas.

YouTube came
into existence.

Then, I started showing
my dance videos,

and stripping videos,
and burlesque,

because I still had
all my costumes.

My Wonder Woman,
Dorothy, Sarah Palin,

Leela from Futurama,
Xena the Princess Warrior.

My YouTube channel
just started growing.

And I started showing
cooking videos,

and then I started showing

-my surgery videos.

And then, all of a sudden,
my crazy neighbor

starts doing crap,

and then I gotta record it
while it's happening

false allegations.

My neighbor
has mental issues.

Because of my crazy neighbor,
I-- I am having a difficult time

trying to make the videos
that I like to make,

the bikini videos.

[birds chirping]

No, really, this is
embarrassing for me.

I mean, it's embarrassing
to me, for her.

No, I'm criticizing,
and I shouldn't be.
Yes, I will.

I always had more boobs
than she does.

I've always had more boobs.

It's all so gross to me.

[Robin] Every time I try
and go out there to go do that,

all of a sudden, she's out
on the other side of the fence

yelling and screaming.

[Robin] I need to get that
permanent restraining order

against her so that I can
get back to making

my YouTube videos
in the backyard.

[Linda] When you have
a restraining order
brought against you,

that is a criminal action.

That gives me
a criminal record.

I have never even had
a parking ticket in my life.

I have a lot of evidence
to show that she's been the one

who has been
harassing me.

So, I think it's gonna
turn out wel-- quite good.

I will take legal action.

-I will fight.

This is our resident
squatter here.

There are two other
individuals in my house

that are what
I call squatters.

All she does is lie.

we're squatters.

That's not what we did.
She moved us in.

And we were here
to help do work on the house.

That's for rent, and then--
when we didn't wanna help her

spy on, uh, Robin, and it
just went through the roof.

I needed cameras
put around my house

because of my situation
next door.

I had talked to him
about security system,

and he said
he could do all of this.

And we were two weeks
into the second month,

and he had done nothing.

So, I finally just said,
"No, you have to move out."

So, they have been here
seven months.

I have lost
seven months' rent.

Who?

has had to deal with this
for the last 20 years.

I can barely last
eight months with her.

-[water running]
-Do you have to do that, Tom?!

-I don't wanna have
to listen to the radio

you're in the bathroom!

And I feel like they need an--
like, an overarching theme.

-[camera clicking]
-It kinda cheapens
the overall look.

This looks like a zombie that
they're trying to hold back.

-Oh, look at the eyes.
-And the eyes.

-[camera clicking]
-[Aaron] And I think
that that hand

that's sticking out definitely
should go with the children

-and the zombies.
-Yes, 'cause that would work.

[Otis]
Decorating, it's art for me.

You can look at something

-and take from somebody...

...and just do it
in a different way.

[Nelson]
He came creeping up

when I was
doing my skeleton,

and I was trying
to keep it under wraps,

and he comes wandering inside
and I'm like, "Really, dude?"

[clapping] Stop fucking
telling people...

-Okay.
-...what we're doing.
You always do that.

-[clearing throat]
-You always think
someone is your friend,

and then you get backstabbed.
I'm serious.

You gotta learn
how to keep secrets,

especially if
we're gonna jump

into another competition
with him.

Now, he's complaining
about how Otis

is stealing his ideas
and all this other stuff.

And I'm like,
"Stealing your ideas?"

Like, Otis, like, even though
he gets on my nerves

with the Halloween stuff,
but he's doing this stuff

all day, every day.

I don't see Nelson outside
doing nothing.

I didn't know Otis was like this
until we bought this house.

I said, "If I knew
you were this obsessed,

I don't think
I would have married you."

I actually put real teeth
in this guy.

My upbringing
was pretty rough.

I didn't get to do this
as a young kid.

I didn't have
a house to decorate

and-- and do all these
crazy things to.

This, what you're looking at
right here was inspired

by a movie that was
directed by Mel Gibson
called Apocalypto.

-[TV playing]
-Am I allowed to watch this?

Yeah, with the skull pile
at the bottom.

-Dad, he took--
-'Cause y-you see that?

The body part just taken out.
He took out his heart.

Odin helps me a lot.

He gave-- gave me
some ideas, too.

We sit and talk
365 Halloween.

He loves it.

When I have my kids,

I always, uh,
try to figure out something

that they can participate.

[Otis]
Our kids are friends.

They play when
they come over here.

[Sasha] They're kids,
they're playing together.

Just let them be.
That has no--

like, say to my kids,
"Oh, you can't play
with them anymore,

because I don't really
care for their father."

That's not fair.

neighborhood.

set up yet.

So, the first signs I met
of my neighbor, Philip,

was I saw one of these.
This is a-- a Chick tract.

So, it looks like a comic,
but then you--
you start reading it,

and before you know it,
bigotry, homophobia,

anti-LGBTQ messages.

-Everybody's going to hell.
-[overlapping voices]

I grew up in an ultra-Orthodox
community in Jerusalem,

in a Yiddish-speaking,
anti-Zionist home.

And my life in that community
was very rigid.

It's like you have rules
for every step of the day.

Your entire life
is around religion.

And when I was approximately
20 years old,

I left that community,
and many of my family members

stopped talking to me
after I came out as trans.

I have a problem
with fundamentalism.

Sometimes if you get into
a conflict with somebody,

it's a good thing

a hard spot right now."

Before I could even finish
my sentence, she said,

We weren't gonna do that.
We wanted to pay her.

It was like one day
everything was okay,
and the next day, it wasn't.

You pick your battles.

And the other ones,
you don't run,

but you walk away from.

I'm involved in battles
in my life.

I'm still involved
with squatters,

and I'm still involved
with Ruby.

She is a person
who I think would kill me

if she thought
she could get by with it.

She probably would set this
house on fire with me in it.

I do know she has
a criminal record.

Anybody can recover

that Mrs. Kelly

obsession with me.

It is not normal to do

for this amount of time,

my mental state is

if I get really upset.

from underneath the mask.

jotting down a lot of notes.

I'm sweating like a dog.

-[person shrieks]

I think the coffin
is very nice.

[Patricia] Yeah.

-[creepy moaning]
-[crying]

[Otis]
I'm a little anxious.

We have one judge
in particular, Patty,

she used to work
in Spirit Halloween.

Her eye knows exactly
what she's looking for.

Her decision is crucial.

[laughter and shrieking]

[evil cackling]

[people screaming]

[♪ dramatic music intensifying]

[echoing screams]

[Robin] Watch--
Slow down, slow down.

-Gary, look at-- brake.
-[horn honking]

-Look at this guy. Stop!
-Oy!

Slow down, Gary, God!

[Robin] It's not a rush.
Court begins at 1:30.

-[Gary] Gotta get over...
-There's a truck on your right.

Just stop.

[Linda]
We are going
to the courthouse.

I always get sick
to my stomach

anytime I have
to go in there.

I can't buy a gun.

There's a whole lot of stuff
I can't do

hanging over my head.

and I got this nasty message

from a lady named Rose.

"I find credit needs to be given
to the true artist.

"I've followed
the OG Halloween house

"on that block
for many years.

No originality.
Bargain barrel."

That's gotta be Nelson.

There's a lot of haters
out here, but you know.

Oh well,
you learn from that.

I would never say nothing
like that to him.

I'd rather say it to his face.

So, we'll see.

Before we get into
announcing our winner,

it was just
an incredible year

for Halloween decorating
in Bloomfield,

with some of the spookiest,

most creative work
we've ever seen.

Okay, starting off, we have
Nelson Santos. Wow.

I love the story that he tells.
And I love the experience.

I think that Nelson could have
had more decorations.

[Patricia]
I mean, I don't like overkill.

That worked very well.
Unfortunately, they only do it

on Halloween itself.

I liked Otis' house,
I definitely did.

He definitely has
the philosophy,
in my opinion,

of, like, more is better.

He had so many things
going on,

but there was really no story.
There were a lot of creatures.

The time has come.
