across the street

from that cartel-looking
residence would be unhappy.

She was my Black mama.

Everybody hates when I say that,
but she was,

she totally took care of me.

We had a great relationship.

All of a sudden,
he start filming me,

constantly.

He's a psycho.

I needed some eyes.

So, I went and I bought
a couple of cameras.

I had no idea how much
activity I would capture.

I'm like a specimen to him.

Just like a specimen.

If she needs that
kind of privacy,

she picked
the wrong neighborhood.

I need protection

from this really dark,

disturbed human being.

I could feel the anger
growing inside of me.

He's dangerous.

I'm affronted by this wall.

I'm offended by it.

It aggravates me
every single day.

I open the front door
to get the paper

and there's that wall,

a scar on
the neighborhood.

When she first moved in,

I walked across the street,
rang the doorbell.

Alexa answered,
and I introduced myself,

welcomed her
to the neighborhood

and told her if there's
anything she needed,

please feel free to come
across the street.

[Alexa] I first met Jeff

about a week
after I moved in.

We were both getting our mail.

He was kind enough
and nice enough.

Then, I didn't see him again

until we were well
into construction.

I began seeing her build
an eight-foot fence.

His face was red
and he was yelling,
"I can't see in!"

"What is this wall?"
And, "What's happening here?"

And, "This shouldn't be here."

One day, I found

some strangers
in my backyard

leering at my pool.
That was scary.

I needed to secure
this perimeter.

We've seen no crime,

uh, to speak of at all
in this neighborhood.

[Alexa]
Jeff doesn't understand
that the wall,

it's gonna be a mix of
an Italian and a French villa

with landscaping
and water features.

Jeff's never seen the plans.

[Jeff] This is a photograph
of the compound

where Osama bin Laden hid out.

We did the right thing
in tracking him down

and getting rid of him.

And it's very tall.

Here's a huge, black,
metal gate.

Well, 10-feet high,
12-feet high.

Structures like that
are built to keep people out,

and that's exactly
what she has over there.

You want your home
to be safe.

It needs to be a sanctuary.

Like, what's the point of
attacking someone over a wall?

Although it's been
incredibly challenging

and frustrating at times,

it underscores my work.

their earthly mission

It's unusual, and I'm not

a professional lecturer,

There are four
different realities

happening simultaneously.

Consciousness and everything,

it's working
in a multidimensional space.

People are deciding
which path they're gonna take.

There's fear or love.
Choose wisely.

My name is no accident.

I'm everyone and no one.

I have the gift of seeing
people's energies.

If you activate it
through kindness,
through love,

through unity consciousness,

it grows outward.

If you are dealing
with the dark,

that's where you end up.

My neighbor
is firmly right here,

fear.

I don't know Jeff well.

He was in the Texas Senate
for a while.

He's been a figure
in San Antonio for many decades.

The far right of my party

decided I wasn't really
Republican enough,

that I was really a Republican
in name only, a RINO.

So, to counteract that,
I bought this painting

and hung it in my office
at the State Capitol.

So...

Give me a break.

I started out as
a county commissioner,

served in the Texas
House of Representatives,

and then served
in the Texas Senate,

and then was the judge
of a justice court

for the last ten years.

I introduced
the Castle Doctrine bill

that says you have the right
to defend yourself in your home,

in your motor vehicle,
or your place of business.

I discovered that Texans
had a duty to retreat

if they were attacked
in their homes.

That is completely un-Texan.

We should have a right
to defend our family
and ourselves.

What we're talking about is
the right of self-preservation.

We will pass it in Texas.

This was taken in the East Room
of the White House.

That's our oldest son
and the president.

It shows President
George H.W. Bush,

George W. Bush,
with Karla and me.

After he was president,
he told me

that he missed our talks
on the back porch

when he was governor.

I don't follow
the party line always.

On the issue of abortion,
I was the only

pro-choice Republican
member of the Senate.

I just did what
I thought was right.

There are a lot of ways
you can be a good neighbor

in terms of conflict,

and that is to, you know,
confront them directly.

And if they correct
the problem, good.

If they don't,

then consider this a battle.

Uh, this is my home.

Uh, next door is where
my neighbors,

Jack and Joanne, live.

We became really close,

particularly after my divorce.

I mean, she was
pretty instrumental

in helping me
get back on my feet.

He didn't handle well
when the wife done left him.

I felt sorry for him.

She embraced me,
big, bald, white guy.

I fed him, and tried
to be a mama to him,

and a friend to him.

I've been over there
for almost all the holidays.

And, boy, can they cook.

And we always included Steve.

Jack would come over
quite a bit,

and have a-- have a drink.

Here's a key to Steve house.

We would go over there
and feed his cat,

clean up his house.

I did everything
I could for him, as a neighbor.

They're very racist people.

Boy, they love
to make fun of Mexicans.

They love to make fun
of white people.

I was told many times
I was the exception.

Yeah, I was over there one day,
we're sitting on the patio,

and they're like, "You know,
you can say it, right?"

And I was like,
"Nope. Not saying it."

They're like, "No, no, no,
you're cool. You're one of--

You're one of us.
You can totally say it."

I mean, it had to have been
ten minutes of them berating me,

"Say it! Say it! Say it!
Make it happy."

So, alright,
I dropped an N-bomb.

There was always some kind of--
a race-based joke of something.

I was outside, Joanne was--
was on the deck,

and she said, "Hey!

"Let me borrow that
white privilege card you got.

I need to do
something with the city."

And I laughed, and said,

"Joanne,
you know that's not real,

I don't have
a membership card."

I thought,
if I give this to Joanne,
she's gonna love it.

This is my white privilege card
that Steve gave me.

And that's when things
went real south.

[Joanne] We had to put up
a fence to get away from him.

I just didn't know
what else to do.

Someone told me,

in your yard measuring.

And I said, "No."

And I walked outside
and I asked the gentleman,

said, "What are you doing?"
He said,

"Well, they want to build
a fence." And I was like,

"First, you're
not even in the right spot."

And I was told I can go spend
my white boy money

on a survey if I want to,
but they're not gonna help.

We put up the fence and we
didn't get the measurement done,

and it was three feet
on his side.

And he lost it.

I don't know why he went crazy
'cause that fence was there.

You have time for
my bullshit 'cause you have

time to fucking steal my land.

moving through

I started to learn
that I'm certainly not alone.

We have people
sharing stories

currently about their own
little fence issues

or encroachment issues.

And I'll make a decision

and then run it by them
and say,

"This is what I feel like
I'm gonna do with this.

What do y'all think?"

And I'll get direct feedback.

The biggest video

she's screaming

that I'm harassing her.
