bikes since I left New York

I think this has been a great move,

especially for Paul, because
he loves the smaller shop.

You know, he's got this
quaint little shop there,

little hobby farm that we can,

you know, take in these animals.

But for Paul, it's like a dream again.

You know, he's got animals back.

He went back to really
his old-school roots of

building the way he
wanted to. And he loves it.

You know, he leaves
for work happy every day.

He comes home happy.

It's really been an incredible
transition for him in terms

of just how much more relaxed he is.

So we had an event
over at the occ roadhouse

to celebrate our veterans.

Bryan stern from grey bull rescue

was receiving an award that night.

Later on in the evening
when the event was over,

Bryan and I met up.

We started talking, and I had
mentioned to him about a bike

and how it would help bring
awareness to his organization

and what they do.

Yeah, so it should be Bryan

and a bunch of other people up there.

My name is Bryan stern.

I'm the ceo and founder
of grey bull rescue.

We're a donor-funded,
veteran-led international

rescue organization.

We rescue Americans and
allies, not just Americans,

but that's our priority, from
war zones, conflict zones,

kidnappings, hostages,
and also natural disasters.

So, well we're about 140 people all-in.

We have people all over the place.

We have people deployed right now.

We work all over the world.

Anything you see on TV that's
a crappy place where people

might be in trouble, we're
either been there already,

there right now, or on
our way right now, like that.

So we are really busy,
entirely donor-funded.

We do not charge money.

Kirillo over there, he's
the first American victim

of war crimes alive since world war ii.

We broke him out of jail from Russia.

The Russians had him,
tortured him for 37 days.

Broke him out of captivity,
which is the first time that

that ever happened to Russia.

And for fun, we did that 11 more times.

because we have the receipt

for everything that we do.

My team and I have done over
600 missions all over the world.

We rescued over 7,000 people
from hurricane Ian to Maui to

Lebanon, all over the place, Sudan.

We like to say that we
work at the speed of need.

When Americans are stuck or in trouble,

someone has to show up.

I would be dead if it wasn't
for Bryan who saved my life.

Knowing that we've saved
these people from something like

being caught in a war or conflict, it's very,

very rewarding.

It feels amazing to bring
American citizens home,

our countrymen,
these are our neighbors.

Grey bull can't walk out of the parking lot

without money, without donations.

They can't fly overseas
and help an American.

They can't pull a hurricane victim out

without gas, chainsaws,
vehicles, and donations

pay for all that.

We can have all the things that we need.

But if I can't afford a tank of gas...

It just sounds like a good movie.

It sounds like something
that we watch on TV.

And that's the one thing that I
never, ever, ever, ever want to

do when somebody needs
help is be a spectator.

What you do is just so incredibly...

Heartwarming and
brave and everything else

and emotional to be able to see that.

It's really an honor for
us to be here, truthfully.

So we've done TV for 18 years.

I mean, this is really
heartfelt here, you know?

I'm psyched, you know what I mean?

Like, this is really cool.

And when we do stuff,
too, we have to be into it,

when we got back to the shop

the guys were there, and

to know exactly what grey

in the build and everything.
For me, you get more into it.

kind of the briefing
of what these guys do,

you know, we just
started building the bike.

At the end of the week,
when everybody starts to get

paid here, I'm keeping the money going.

you kind of get the band back together

because there's just a lot more involved.

come with the tire on.

You don't have to worry
about marring the rim all up,

mounting the tire.

Probably a burr on this.

bent over the cone a little bit

and then I can straight pipe
it and then kind of follow that.

So it's my first day on this
build, and I'm just kind of

looking at this frame.

In my head, I'm just, like,
I'm pulling out that drawer

of archive, like, "ok, what
pipes do I want to build?"

It's challenging when you're
doing that stuff on the fly.

Like, we're hand-making most of

these parts right here in-house.

So what do you think the
hardest bike we ever built was?

Let me ask you a question
and tell you the answer.

We had to test that.

four different front ends on that.

He was the biggest,
heaviest one in the shop.

Being back here with some of the guys,

it's really a lot of fun.

We haven't been all
together in the same room

in quite some time.

And, you know, I first came here was...

it was kind of story time, you know.

We have a million of them,
just reminiscing about some of

the crazy stuff we did,
some of the funny stuff we did.

But, you know, at some
point, we got to get to work.

So working with Paul now versus
back in New York... It's different.

The stress level for
everybody is not existence

for the most part.

We just enjoy working
together, having fun.

He's teaching me things.
I'm not a bike builder by trade.

So he's been showing
me what's going on.

We've been building together,
just doing really cool stuff

and working with some cool people

down here in Florida that we've met.

A lot more steps.

This piece next is gonna
be really a pain in the ass.

to do on that Fender.

It's a real long bike. The
frame's been stretched.

I've been helping Paul for
about two or three years now.

Off and on, I build
frames for him and stuff.

And today, I'm helping
him try to get this bike done.

building the gas tank,

mounting the oil tank, battery box.

nice build when it's done.

she'll stop by the shop to see

what Paul and I are up to or not up to.

point with delivering the bikes

on time and what the client is looking for.

you know, stitches in his
hand, so it's kind of hard not to

give him a hard time
about what's going on.

Kind of like the giant dent in the front of

his truck, you know? He
blasted something with that.

I don't think he wants to tell anyone.

They might take his
license away, you know?

And every time I pull it, he's angry.

As far as the bars on this bike,

drew made these bars,
actually makes quite a few

different sets of handlebars,
and this one set of bars was

very unique, and I really liked it.

So I had asked him to fabricate
a set of those for grey bull.

Argh.

I'm not digging it, man,
because these are going up

in the air.

I wanted them to come
down this way, if anything.

And, you know, we
got it on, put them on,

and they just didn't cut it.

First of all, the stretching,

the rake and everything,
the position of the handlebars

just and whatnot, it didn't work.

So we had to go to option
b, which was, you know,

set a kind of pullback drag bars.

And even then we had to
make like eight-inch spacers to

bring them up over the tank.

When you're building custom
bikes, every frame that we do

it's got, like, a different rake on it.

Normally, when I build
my Zeus bars, it's for, like,

a stock rake, so I just went
ahead and built them for that,

thinking I could just, you
know, change the angles.

And they're cool, like, on
a stock rake, but with that

40-degree angle, it
just wasn't looking right.

You know what I'm saying?

It was just, like, real sharp
edges, and, like, everything

on the bike was kind of, like, smooth,

so it wasn't really flowing.

What'd you cut yourself yesterday?

for the grey bull bike is
out, it's time for a little r&r,

a little us time. So Paul's got a friend

who owns an air boat place
with crocodiles and other stuff,

so it should be pretty interesting.

So we're going to go out, check that out,

admire about her, is she'll get

her front end that's bent
and twisted and rusted,

and she'll get her old rim

and she'll fix it.

When the girl comes

She's like really good
with springers, you know?

It's always the most dicey thing,

is putting the Springs on.

Hayley's fitting right
in, like one of the team.

She's really good.

She's done front ends
before in springers,

so we knew that would be a
good place to have her start.

Yeah, she's knocking it out.

Yeah, so this morning we came in.

Hayley and I were working
on getting the front brake

totally situated. There's a lot of spacing.

There's a lot of math involved, actually.

So we're just about done with that.

So, yeah, we're off to a good start,

a little better than yesterday I would say.

I found bikes is
something, like, instinctively

I couldn't put my finger on
it. I just had to be on a bike.

I knew that it was something
I had to do, but all the bikes,

like all the stock bikes,
for whatever reason,

that was like some intuition
or something that was going on

where I didn't like any
of the stock bikes either.

So he notices what I'm
doing, which a lot of people

they don't notice that kind of stuff.

They just want to see paint
and chrome, and then that's

what constitutes a build,
but obviously, there's no

chroming really around me,
and so we got to make do with

what we got, and we're making
our own parts, and he gets it,

- he sees that.
- Hurry up, go fast.

- Dude, look at that spring.
- I don't want to.

So today, Jim and I are just
working on some odds and ends.

I got some wiring I'm doing,
just making sure everything's,

you know, tight, locked, ready to go.

All right, so I think we got most of it.

Yeah.

Jim had received the paint
yesterday, and he noticed

there was a little difference
in the shade of the gray.

So we called Paul in to
see what he thought of it.

When I came in, the tanks
were in here, and the color gray

that was on the gas
tanks, opposed to the bars

and the other stuff
that we used for accent

on the front end and the primary,

was totally different color.

Well, the tins and
stuff came in yesterday.

- The tins?
- They look they look amazing,

but I think we have an issue.

So, let me grab one.

- I can see it already.
- Yep, that's the issue.

Ken did another
amazing job on the paint.

It's amazing.

Let me grab you a piece
so we can hold it next to it

so you can see what the difference is.

few things we had to take off.

The primary handlebars, risers,
part of the springer front end,

battery box, all to get repowder coated

with this new powder
coater that we're using.

The new powder coater,

Hopefully they're near there
and we can do something with it.

I mean, it doesn't seem
like we got to take that.

That's going to be the
biggest pain in the ass.

So, like any custom
build with a car, a bike,

a house, or whatever it may
be, there's gonna be issues.

The powder coat and the paint,

the gray versions just didn't match.

There was too much of
an inconsistency to let it go.

So, we had to get another
powder coater to come in

and fix it and do it really quick.

And fortunately, cq coatings did that.

The real way to do it
is do the powder coat

and have the paint not
match the powder coat,

- but we didn't do it that way.
- That's all right.

So that'll work. That color will work, yeah.

Yeah, I can get this
today from our supplier.

I'll pick it up, and we can
have the parts done by tonight.

Yeah, that'll work, I'll give
you a call if something changes.

The thing, Paul, remember,
it would slide off of there,

so you got to have it like dead on.

So, me and Christian were
taking the springer apart,

not for the first time.

And we're using this tool
that we used to use, man.

We used it for years and
years back in the old shop even.

And I was compressing the spring.

That pulls the tension
on the Springs so that

you could release it
and take the Springs off.

And I pulled the whole stud
out where the stud should have

stayed, just enough so it came off.

So, there was nothing holding
that spring in, and he still

had it compressed, and I noticed

that the spring was bowing.

Christian started moving away.

He said, "you need to hurry up."

And when I looked at the spring

on the triple, between the triple trees,

was almost bent like a u.

And I mean, there was
a lot, a lot of pressure

underneath that spring.
So, I tried to get them to go

fast, fast, fast, you
know, loosen it, get it off.

And as soon as he said that, it let go.

And before I could even get
that totally out of my mouth,

the thing went whipping across.

Dude, look at that spring.

- I don't want...
- My...

Well, that'll work. You all right?

- Holy crap.
- Right there was good.

That thing hit me right in the wrist, bro.

- You all right?
- Go fast.

It hit me in the hand.

You know, I could still feel it.

I got a red Mark there, but I
guess it could have been worse.

I mean, that thing went whipping.

As a matter of fact, we didn't see where

one piece went.

Jim found it on the floor afterwards.

That was the part that I didn't see.

We looked up at the ceiling,

and there was a hole in the ceiling.

So luckily, I mean, it would
have knocked teeth out.

I could have been at the
dentist getting new teeth

because the pressure that that
had to be able to almost stick

- into the ceiling.
- It's funny, I guess.

Pretty much lucked out there.

A lot of nuts and bolts and

to put together, and it takes
time, and it's not exactly

a big hurdle, but, you know,

it's something that needs to be done.

And we're having a
lot of fun here doing it.

much getting caught up.

It's kind of difficult when...

Everybody kind of sort of
kind of works in the same area

you're kind of banging to.
But we've been coming along.

We got the primary pretty much done.

Got the covers on there.
Al got the light all hooked up.

So we got a little bit
more electric work to do.

Probably another couple, at
least a couple hours of everything.

Got to get the oil tank on, run the oil lines

and the rest of that stuff.

But I think that we're, I
think we're on schedule.

I don't like to say that
because every time I say that,

something goes wrong.
But I think we're ok.

I mean, everybody's, believe it or not,

even though we're on top of each other,

everybody's getting their part done.

Yeah.

It's cool how, like, every
time you put a piece on,

like, the headlight changes,
you know, the seat changes.

Right there, not see as well.

They're definitely going to like this.

You know we're gonna do it.

Yeah, -so we got the bike

off the lift. Sounded great.

Those rims look great, man.

Yeah, wow, the rims really,
the smt wheels look good, boy.

It looked good. Christian took it

down the road and back
just to see how the clutch

and everything, which was good.

The issue, which actually we
seen as soon as we got it off

the lift, the steering
needs to be shortened

because it's hitting the gas tank.

So what we're gonna have to do is...

It's an old-school chopper
thing because you never really

used to put stops on there.

You'd either drill and tap it or put a chain

on there or whatnot, so...

Once we figure out where
that's got to go and drill it,

hopefully, take it out one more time.

I think I'm gonna take
it out one more time

now that Christian did it.

And, it should be good for
the unveiling tomorrow night.

Hopefully.

As long as there's nothing else going on.

Pulled it in front of grey bull

and Bryan and their
team as well as our team.

And, it was amazing.

We've built a lot of bikes for
different organizations over

the years, but this grey bull
bike is really something near

and dear and something
really special to all of us, I think.

- Mike!
- Hey, you!

- What are you doing back there?
- I was just... inventory.

I was doing some inventory.

We really didn't have
much time to spare at all.

It was, you know, the day of the event.

We're wrapping this bike up, we're doing

the steering chains, making
sure everything's good

for the unveil, everything's
running all right.

And we really, you know, we're used to it.

You know, from back in the day,
we were always under some sort

of crunch or deadline.

You know, I'm used to it personally.

I think Mikey is as well.

And so we just worked
and you just keep going

until you get it done, and we did.

- You got one shot to do this.
- Why?

Because where you drill and tap this hole

- on both sides.
- Yeah.

But you could adjust
the chain with the link.

Yeah, but if you go...

- If you go too long.
- That's a long link.

Then you could go too
long, then it's null and void.

Well, then you go down
and hold it to where you want

it and then punch it out. Right.

And if you do it, up,
then you go the other way,

but then you're going to cut this turn.

Yeah, right.

- I can't go left.
- I can't turn.

Like loose... no, just
loosen that a little bit.

Yeah, you can do that too.

Flatten it more with the spacers.

Use the spacers and the chain.
You know what I'm saying? And a vice.

- Where's Mike?

- Where you've been?

- Right there.

Well, you know, it's
really nice and mellow

working with my dad now, you know.

Instead of yelling at me, he
just kind of breaks my balls

a little bit.

And it's really nice
because he's very old now,

you know?

So I think he needs me in
some way, shape, or form.

I don't know how I'm worthless as

on a bull with the motorcycle

and the motorcycles that
we're fabricating, you know?

But I just really enjoy
being around him now.

Will you heat it up and send it in?

- Give that to Christian.
- Sure.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

So the bike, like most
of the times, time was of

the essence, and we
were running a little behind,

but we were going to get it done.

So we were able to finish
it, which is good, because it

allows us to go out and
see some of the vendors here

at the St. Pete bike fest.

We had some friends here like grey bull,

Jay from operation healing heroes,

and Talon from cq, who's
our new powder coater.

So it was good to be able to go
out, spend some time with them,

and just relax a little bit
after getting the bike done.

You know, the unveils are always great,

but it's even better when we get
to do them at the occ roadhouse.

The reveal was so
nerve-wracking, to be honest

with you, because even
though you think that this is

an excellent bike and it
fits perfectly, you still never

really know what the
client has in their mind.

So the grey bull unveil went well.

Joan and I got out there,
got the crowd ready.

We brought Bryan up.
Bryan talked about grey bull.

Joan talked about grey bull.

And then Bryan showed
everybody a video.

It was the first time the
video has been made public.

The grey bull team hadn't seen it.

They fired it up.

Everybody turned around from grey bull.

The crowd was quiet.

You could hear a pin drop
because everybody was

paying attention to that video.

We rolled right into Ukraine,
and that was a humanitarian

crisis unto itself.

We've done 68 American
babies from the war in Ukraine.

My baby. Thank you, everyone.

Babies in a war zone on
life-support and incubators

gives you gray hair.

Several Americans
have come back home

after being held hostage
by Russian forces in Ukraine.

I would be dead if it wasn't for Bryan.

He saved my life.

Without Bryan, I would still be there.

The United States and
U.S. citizens need grey bull

very simply because more Americans

are held at risk today than ever before,

and no one's coming.

I like to be able to say we're coming.

My greatest fears have now come true,

which is having to say no.

We have way more people asking
us for help than we can afford,

and that's because we're donor-funded.

If we do not have money,
we cannot do what we do.

This operation is
logistically, very expensive.

If there's no donations,
there's no money to execute

evacuations or rescues.

We can have all the things that we need,

but if I can't afford a tank of gas

it just sounds like a good movie.

And that's the one thing
that I never, ever, ever, ever

want to do when somebody
needs help, is be a spectator.

So the video gets done.

We're pumping everybody
up. You hear the bike coming.

You hear Paul revving it
up, coming around the corner.

He pulls it in. It's a long bike.

It's over 11 feet long.

So riding that in, Paul killed it, as always.

Pulled it in front of grey bull
and Bryan and their team,

as well as our team, and it was amazing.

Audience was so receptive,
so I was really glad to see that.

But as soon as the bike pulled
out and you saw their faces,

we knew we nailed it.

Because they could not have
been happier with the bike.

So it really, in the
end, after all the anxiety

turned out to be awesome.

So after the unveil and
everybody was checking out

the bike, we invited all of
grey bull back over to the shop

to talk to us and see
where the bike was made.

I think it's beautiful. I think it's beautiful.

It definitely balances...

You know, the thing of it is,

every bike that we build tells a story.

And I think that people
that we've done bikes

for 20 years ago, so they
still have the same bike

and they take it to events.

You know, it's always an attraction.

People go to the bike
before they go to a nice car.

We looked at this, and
we were just ecstatic.

Something that was an American icon,

like orange county choppers,

to be able to build something like this.

Bring notoriety to what
we do. It's been a blessing.

This is really gonna help us,

working with orange county choppers.

This really draws a lot
of attention to the charity.

And once we can draw that
attention, once people learn

about what we do and
why it's necessary, that's

super helpful to the
charity. We're really grateful.
