Original subtitles

Dad, is this it?

Yes.

Here.

Are we living here now?

There are pretty flowers like Mom.

You've been through a lot.

Not at all.

You had it tough supporting my business.

(Real Estate Donation Contract)

It's your house.

From now on, do everything you want.

(Kim Se Hee)

(Empire of Biotech)

(Economy & Business)

What's going on?

Nothing. It's a good day today,

so I wanted to have a drink with you.

Really?

It's a bit late, but sure.

This is nice.

What?

You told me to do everything I want.

I thought you were smart, but wouldn't make money.

But it turns out you're quite useful.

You...

Mom, what are you doing?

You can't sleep?

Let's go, I'll put you to bed.

(The Defects Episode 4. Mom)

The mood's not bad, right?

Yes, it's good.

It's a chance that only comes once every ten months.

Imagine how fierce the competition must be.

Even though it's not custom-made,

why do customers get so obsessed with auctions?

People aren't confident in their own choices.

They think something's only good if others say so.

That's what I'm aiming for.

(Assemblyman Kwon Kang Man)

What brings you here?

Assemblyman Kwon is not inside.

I checked all the cars in the building.

I just have something quick to ask.

You should've made an appointment.

Even if you're the police, you can't barge in like this.

It'll just take a minute.

This is obstruction of official duty.

He's inside.

How could you lie about that?

No, you can't go inside.

No.

Then I'll be seeing you soon.

Yes.

What's this about?

I'm Detective Choi Hyeong Seok from Bucheon Police Station.

I have a few questions about your son.

Please have a seat.

If it's my son...

I mean Kwon Sung Woo who passed away three years ago.

Is he really dead?

That question really...

hurts.

He looks a lot like my son.

Isn't this boy your...

Detective Choi Hyeong Seok, was it?

Yes.

If you're here to dig into a grieving father's heart,

please leave.

But...

Please leave.

Kwon Sung Woo.

How is he...

Are you okay, Ah Hyun?

Yes, I'm fine.

Let's go inside.

Okay, let's summarize things.

This is Uncle Tae Sik.

Tae Sik was...

subcontracted by this person...

to secretly dispose of abandoned children.

But he saved us instead.

There's definitely someone above him.

And I think...

it's this person.

And this person doesn't just handle abandonment.

They were arranging illegal adoptions...

for wealthy clients.

And those adoptions weren't...

about finding kids.

Using these sperms...

and these eggs, they created babies.

Right.

They said the biological fathers and mothers were...

both unaware the babies existed.

So this woman donated her egg,

but she knows nothing about the reason.

Exactly.

This is completely illegal.

There was nothing legal from the start.

Then...

us too?

Baby factory.

I read about it in a book.

The Nazis used to do that...

to create perfect genes.

Perfect genes.

Ah Hyun.

I need a perfect daughter.

This is so disgusting.

Mom said...

they're far more monstrous...

than we imagine.

Let's find them.

We have to stop this.

Ah Hyun.

Let's find them.

Play the video we filmed.

Okay.

She definitely looks like the final boss.

Something's up.

But how do we find this woman?

Then first,

let's find the egg donor.

Okay.

(SH Scholarship Foundation)

(Science for a healthy tomorrow, trust for the heart)

She comes to this nightclub every day except Sunday.

She says she studies on Sundays.

You know what's really scary?

She plays like that and studies for a day,

and she's a pre-med ace.

They say she's like an AI.

She memorizes whole textbooks.

Is she on drugs or something?

Got a light?

Don't know me? I'm a second-year med student.

What brings a med student to a place like this?

Do you want to hang out?

I'm kind of busy.

It's them.

They're headed to that place.

What can I get you?

Beer?

You know this, right?

Find the server room and plug it in.

Then all the data they're using will...

be sent to me in real-time.

And this.

Don't use it unless you have to.

It's too dangerous.

Be careful.

Don't worry.

Don't get hurt, Ah Hyun.

Take care of the others.

See you later.

- You're here. - Hey.

- The same one? - Yes, please.

I'm going to the restroom.

Implantation has been completed using the chairperson's eggs...

from last time.

What's the next one?

Three are scheduled this week.

All of them are quite usable.

Usable is not enough.

I told you I want perfection.

When can I expect that special one?

I won't feel at ease unless it's that level.

Get in.

Where are they going?

What is this place?

Thank you for visiting our clinic again.

Today's medication session will take approximately two hours.

Depending on your condition,

you may rest for up to five hours.

Please take note.

No personal conversations are allowed.

Disclosing any information about this place externally will result...

in strict penalties.

Aren't you going in?

Yes.

Please change into that.

Okay.

Knock when you're done changing.

Just a second.

How exactly are you handling this situation?

Some detective came by and...

You cannot collect spilled milk.

So we'll just have to mop it well.

What do you mean by that?

Do you mean he's alive? Is that it?

Apparently,

they say Kwon Sung Woo is alive.

What?

How could you handle this so carelessly!

Assemblyman Kwon.

You said you'd take care of it quietly,

neatly, without anyone knowing!

If people find out your son is alive,

it will turn Korea upside down, won't it?

What on earth are you...

Do you think this is unfair?

If you do, go ahead and sue me.

Are you messing with me right now?

Is it because you need money?

Assemblyman Kwon.

I've already earned more money than I could ever use.

Making money isn't fun anymore.

I just want...

to set this abnormal world...

right again.

What?

And it was good.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

Whenever I read that verse, I wonder.

Was it really?

Was He really satisfied...

after creating men?

No.

I don't think so.

He must've handed down all those trials...

because He wasn't happy with what He made.

People who are dumb,

foolish, ugly,

and utterly useless to the world. He made those people...

and then carelessly said,

"It was good."

Isn't that too cruel?

But I'm a responsible person.

Amen.

Once I start something, I see it through to the end.

Please propose just one quick legal amendment.

Let's fix a few lines in the Bioethics Law.

Seriously?

Kwon Sung Woo.

He's not only alive.

What?

Assemblyman Kwon.

He'll kill you.

I'll take care of Kwon Sung Woo.

I'll take full responsibility and make it certain.

So...

Assemblyman, just do your job.

Take full responsibility and make it certain.

Are you okay?

Yes, I'm okay.

Check if there's another space.

Got it.

What is all that?

Uncle.

Ah Hyun.

Change your clothes and wait.

A staff member will guide you.

What kind of test am I getting today?

I'm not sure.

Uncle, did you eat?

You didn't, did you?

You should eat, Uncle.

I haven't restored everything completely yet.

But is this guy really a human trafficker?

What?

Take a look at this.

"Tae Sik, we're about to have dinner soon."

"When are you coming home?"

"I might be late. Don't wait up."

"It's the first time you haven't come back for this long."

"I'm worried."

"Ah Hyun, I'm sorry. I'll come home tomorrow for sure."

"Don't worry. I'm safe."

They're totally a family.

Anesthesia complete. Prepare now.

Yes.

Let's get as many as we can today.

Hey, let's stop having this woman now.

She's had too many drugs and she's in bad shape.

They're falling apart.

Understood.

It's coming out smoothly.

We're one person short here.

Go find her.

Excuse me, are you inside?

Doctor.

Doctor, are you okay?

One of the samples is missing.

Damn it.

Ju An.

I found the blueprint.

Head down and go right.

You'll find the main server room there.

It looks like the main server is the most important part.

(Staff Only, Server Room)

Ju An.

Do you know what this is?

Yes, go a bit more that way.

Not that one,

the second one.

Did you find it?

This one?

Yes, that one.

Is it done?

Okay.

Hold on.

Director Jung, you need to come see this right now.

Did you get anything?

Yes.

I found the buyers' list.

There are thousands of names.

That many?

Is there anything on the sellers?

Hold on.

(Buyer No. 17 of Genetically Modified Child)

DNA data?

What's this?

DNA data? What's that?

What?

What is that?

To put it simply,

they're sorting out good DNA from bad DNA,

and from that,

they're creating children however they want.

That's insane.

What is it?

We detected an external signal so we searched.

Lock down the entire building.

Immediately!

Code Black. Intruder alert.

Code Black. Intruder alert.

- We need to hurry. - Code Black. Intruder alert.

Search everywhere!

We have an intruder.

Sister.

How have you been?

Very well.

Sorry for asking you to come all the way here.

I'll guide her in.

Yes, ma'am.

My husband can't show himself too much.

So I hope you'll understand, Sister.

Don't mention it.

When else would I ever get the chance to visit a place like this?

Thank you for thinking that way.

And, Sister.

Thank you.

For giving us your daughter.

It really feels like we've become a true family.

Like real sisters.

Honey.

Yes?

We finally meet.

I've wanted to see you.

It's a pleasure. I'm Kim Se Hee.

Let's get to the point.

Approval ratings.

As you can see, I'm holding mine steady.

But...

everyone who comes to me with offers...

only talks about approval ratings.

It gets tedious.

Foolish people,

when they hear what they really need to hear,

they get bored.

Just as I've heard, you're bold as ever, Doctor.

The youngest-ever president of Korea.

Record-high average approval rating.

Someone with nothing to regret.

Why does he care about petty people pitching deals...

based on approval ratings?

Because you want to do real politics. I know that.

The low birthrate crisis.

Even in a country where the president and First Lady are DINK couples,

why do they expect only me to have a child?

This isn't about approval ratings.

You already know that, Mr. President.

That's why you wanted to meet me.

To show the people you'll share their worries.

To become one with them.

That's what you believe, right?

And above all,

you truly love your wife.

I do have an eye for people.

After I was diagnosed with primary ovarian insufficiency,

I thought...

about divorce.

I worried I'd ruin his future...

if we divorced while he was still in office.

So I even thought about doing it before the inauguration.

I will help...

make your dreams come true.

The Lord will bless you too.

Amen.

If this all wraps up well,

I'm thinking of bestowing a small grace myself.

I've heard your research is facing many challenges.

There are way too many unnecessary regulations...

in Korea, right?

Ju An.

Ju An.

Just keep going straight.

Please explain the exam to her.

Okay.

Excuse me.

Miss.

Where do I get my exam?

I'll just wait here.

What's happening? Ah Hyun.

Ah Hyun!

What is it? What's wrong?

Ah Hyun, do you need something?

May I go in?

Yes.

Who was that lady earlier?

Is this her first time here?

Who?

Snow White.

Do you know the true story of Snow White?

Why? Is it your first time seeing me smoke?

Yes.

Do you want to try?

Mom.

Ah Hyun.

You know the stepmother from Snow White who says "Mirror, mirror?"

That woman is actually...

(Signal lost)

This is driving me crazy.

They cut off everything from there.

What?

Let's go, quick.

Seok Su.

We have to go.

Ju An.

Ju An.

(No signal)

There! Get her!

Intruder spotted.

Seok Su.

We have to go.

We have to do something.

But what are we even going to do?

Ah Hyun.

Hey!

Ah Hyun.

Ah Hyun.

Ah Hyun.

Si Woo.

What are you saying?

It was Ah Hyun.

The person who was in front of Ah Hyun was...

Ah Hyun.

Over there.

Catch her!

Damn it.

(Restricted area)

(Lock error)

You report to higher-ups.

And you, go get the electric saw.

- Yes. - Now!

(BJ Baek Eun Seo Grade 83.9)

(JP Jo Hyun Woo Grade 83.9)

(AH26 Grade 92.3)

Ah Hyun, do you need something?

(Product AH 01-26)

(Y3 Yoon Ji Seok, discarded)

I, Yoon Se Hoon,

agree to disown and dispose of Yoon Ji Seok,

whom I adopted 17 years ago.

The reason is unsatisfactory quality.

You say it too.

I agree.

Amen.

(Product AH 01-26)

All staff please gather in the lobby.

All staff must immediately gather in the lobby.

There's something going on, isn't there?

It's nothing. Don't worry.

Please get changed.

Okay.

Hello?

Ah Hyun, it's me,

Choi Si Woo.

Si Woo.

What on earth happened to you?

Ah Hyun.

Can you help me?

I'll explain in person.

But...

you have to come without anyone knowing.

Where are you now?

Okay.

You can't go out.

No!

Don't touch me.

Everyone out!

All staff please gather in the lobby.

All staff must immediately gather in the lobby.

All staff please gather in the lobby.

All staff must immediately gather in the lobby.

Stand straight.

Stand straight.

Hey, what are you doing?

Go over there.

Everyone, remove your masks.

Masks off!

Remove your mask.

Stay where you are.

Stay where you are!

Move!

Drop your gun.

Stop.

Don't make that face!

You know this, right? Boom.

No!

Mom.

You lost.

Mom?

You're useless.

Mom.

Goodbye, Ah Hyun.

Mom.

Mom.

Mom.

Ah Hyun.

You know the stepmother from Snow White who says "Mirror, mirror?"

She's not actually a stepmom.

She's actually the real mother.

The one who ordered the hunter to bring her heart.

That wasn't the stepmother.

It was her real mother.

Ah Hyun.

My girl.

How have you been?

Why did you come here?

You should've died back then.

(The Defects)

If something happens to Ah Hyun while you're hesitating right now...

Let's just think it through a little more.

Whatever. I'll go even if I have to go alone.

Thinking it over, she might actually be useful.

Shouldn't at least one adult exist...

to help those kids?

Is that really the only way?

You're not alone anymore.

So let's go together.

Was it you who killed Eun Gyeol?

That bastard Yoon Ji Seok.

He was your son.

He has to die.

We were just supposed to extract the good genes...

and edit them.

That way we wouldn't get discarded items like this. Clean and simple, right?

That's why I'm going to do just that.

Nice to meet you.

My Mary.

I want to be a daughter who's useful to my mom.

Your son, Ji Seok.

He's here.
