there is no way of telling
what it contains.

None are to be found.

Chasing them is pointless.
There are no fish anywhere.

I beg of you.

Don't do anything to my egg.

Promise me.

This tree...

I have seen one like it before.

When could it have been?

It was so long ago,
I barely remember.

Beneath a sky filled with
clouds rolling loudly by,

the pitch black horizon

suddenly heaved and gave birth to
a giant tree.

Drawing vitality from the earth,
its pulsing branches stretched,

and grasped something.

The egg's inhabitant.

A slumbering,
colossal bird.

What became of that bird?
Where is it?

It remains there even now,
endlessly dreaming.

Dreaming?
What do birds dream of?

You still won't tell me
what is inside that egg?

How long have you been here?

Your many bottles offer an answer?

Even I cannot remember
where I came from.

And where I am bound.

Perhaps I never knew.

You'll go away somewhere?

"I will destroy man whom I created
from the face of the earth;

"both man, and beast, and the creeping
thing, and the fowls of the air;

for it repenteth me
that I have made them."

"For seven days, I will
cause it to rain forty days and nights;

and every living substance
that I made will I destroy."

the flood waters

Where did the bird touch down?
Or did it burn out and drown?

There was no way of knowing.

So people continued to
await its return.

They waited, and grew tired,

until they forgot the bird's release,
and the bird itself.

The world sunken underwater as well.

Where they came from, how long
they will stay, and where they will go.

A tale so ancient,
beasts have since turned to stone.

I cannot recall when and where I saw
that bird. It is but a distant memory.

Or perhaps it was a dream.

You and I, like those fish,

might be mere memories
of people long gone,

in a deserted world
where only falling rain moves.

Or perhaps that bird never existed.

It does exist.

It exists here.

It does exist.

I found it.

That has turned to stone,
but it's inside.

I'll warm it and hatch it!

The bird that I found.

I knew it.

I knew it had to be so.

Do you hear something?

I do.
The sound of faint breathing.

That is the sound of your chest.

I hear wings too.

It must be dreaming of
flying through the sky...

That is the sound of the wind outside.

It's almost time.
Now, it's dreaming inside this,

but I'll show you too.
It's almost time.

So until then,
we'll stay here.

Here, no rain falls,

and it's so warm...
