I've lived in Missouri
my entire life.

I was just a regular sophomore
in high school

with just a really big passion
for music.

It felt like it was my destiny
to get a chair turn.

What helped me get through it

My biggest inspiration
in my family

is definitely my great grandpa.

Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn.

And he unfortunately
had to give it all up

for his 13 children at home.

He had always wanted
me to do music,

so after he passed,
I finally decided

that I was going to start
putting myself out there.

of the reason

to find myself

There's a lot of pressure
to do it justice.

I think that adopting

is kind of okay,

Country is my first love,
for sure,

but I don't want to be held

There's singing and there's
singing with somebody, right?

It's like two completely
different art forms entirely.

And it can be a train wreck.
And it can be a real mess.

Just stay locked in, honestly,

because when you go into
those really rhythmic harmonies

and stuff, that's the key

I'm from Southwest Georgia

and currently

The blind audition
was a crazy day.

I kind of had in my head
I wanted Kelly from the start.

I don't know

but I have been
on country radio.

JW: I want to do
my own songwriting,

and as a coach,
she could really help.

Currently, I try to write
every single day.

It's not full-time.

I do bread deliveries
in the morning.

JW: My music roots
come from my dad.

He mostly sings in the choir,
but he's good at karaoke, too.

My dad's uncle was
a really good piano player.

He played with Waylon Jennings
and Johnny Paycheck

back in the '60s and '70s.

So it's kind of crazy that maybe
I get to carry on that legacy.

singing back in Texas.

So it really just
took me back to that

and my, like--
my West Texas roots.

Lee Ann Womack
actually attended school

right outside of my hometown,
Lubbock, Texas,

at South Plains College.

And a lot of the musicians
that I grew up playing with

actually attended
the same college.

Even my coach is a Texan,
so that's exciting.

The blind audition
was a whirlwind for sure.

It really just gave me
that validation

that what I'm doing is good.

but I'm really excited

I paired Adi and Grace
because I felt like

I could find a way for their
styles to meet in the middle.

Grace sang Joni Mitchell

like she was transported
from Woodstock or whatever.

And Adi came in

It really forced me
to push myself as a musician

and push myself as a leader.

And now, almost graduating
from Cornell

and faced with
this weird crossroad of,

do I pursue
the corporate lifestyle

that I've kind of
set myself up for

or do I take
this amazing opportunity

that I've been given,
and how do I kind of do both?

How did you know
when it was time

to just fully commit
to music?

I worked a corporate job
for three years out of college.

And I needed to.

Like, I didn't have
parents money

to, like, keep me afloat.

But I just never
gave up on music.

I slept less. I just did
what I needed to do.

Sometimes you got to burn
both ends of the candle

and make it happen.

I think the key is gonna be
getting out of their heads.

And then let their tone

and so for me to actually
continue pursuing my career

and never giving up, I think
they're really proud of me.

Moses: What would you say
to someone

that pulls from a lot of
different influences and genres

but wants to have continuity in
how they present themselves?

When I was a kid
and I started writing songs

and then got a record deal
and then made an album,

all along the way,
I felt like

I was still discovering
who I was.

That journey, like,
never ends.

If it's genuine
and sincere,

I think people will
really respond to it.

I wasn't expecting half of what
he said, and it was so genuine.

I was on the verge of tears
a couple times.

For me personally, I just have
a lot to prove to myself.

I had a really bad stint
with substance abuse.

I was on the verge
of quitting music.

But I worked on myself.
I got better. I healed.

in front of Adam

and he's affirming me
in this way...
