I noticed that it was really,
really dark on the inside.

The darkness in the hallways
would swallow up the light.

When investigating
a paranormal case,

it's just like
investigating a crime.

You want to know whodunit,
and you want to know why.

In the back of both of
our minds, we knew that

there was something in
that apartment.

Something followed me.

Something you definitely don't
want to be followed by.

Anger is a powerful
binding emotion,

especially when it comes
to spirit.

It does have that feel that
we are disturbing

somebody's resting place.

I was alone,
and I was terrified.

She can no longer ignore it,

and she has to take
action now.

- Who's there?
- Could she be responsible?

It triggered a truly dark
memory that I tried to bury.

I could absolutely see why
they would want to get revenge.

I was more scared
than I'd been

this entire time
because that's my baby.

When I was telling my family

that we were going to be living

in Las Vegas,
they were shocked.

They didn't think that's
an actual place to live in.

They were thinking, oh,

are you gonna live
in a hotel?

My fiance and I settled on
a new suburb

on the south end
of the city.

The rent here was cheaper,

a perfect place
for a young couple

starting their lives together.

What I didn't know

is that something
followed me... here.

Something you definitely
don't want to be followed by.

So Leilani and I met almost 15,
16 years ago, and we were just

friends all the way up until
about five years ago.

Johnathan is a character.

He is not the nicest when
you first meet him, but that is

just his way of breaking down
the type of person that

he keeps close to him.

But when you are in that
close-knit group of people,

he cares for you deeply.

He will do anything
for you.

And if you ask him something,
even if it's out of the way,

he will drop everything
for you.

It was December, and since this
was my daughter's

first Christmas, I wanted to
deck the halls of the apartment.

I had wrapped every single door
with wrapping paper...

top to bottom.

I went crazy, a little too
crazy if you ask Johnathan.

I woke up to
an intense sound of rain.

It was as if
you were standing

right under
a tin roof

while it was raining
on top of you.

- What is that?
- Is it raining?

It's not raining.

And then I came to realize
that it sounded like

somebody was dragging
their hand down

our wrapping-paper door.

There's only three of us in
our apartment, so there

shouldn't be anybody
else there.

The first thing I did was
check my daughter's room

because I thought that maybe
there was an intruder

in the house.
And nobody was in there.

I checked a couple other rooms,

realized that nobody was
in there either.

There was nothing to do,

nothing that we could do
about it.

We decided to just
let it be.

Richard, take one.
Mark.

When strange things start
going on in your home,

your place of business, 99% of
the time, we just want to

dismiss this stuff--
99% of the time, we're right.

That creaking floorboard often
is just a creaking floorboard.

Not everything is a ghost.

In fact, the vast majority of
things are not a ghost.

But then you get down to those
instances where there's

something stranger going on.

And in John and Leilani's case,

they're about to run headlong
into one.

Leilani had a job at
the apartments that we live at.

After a tenant moves out,
my manager and I had to do

a routine move out check for
any vacant apartments,

just to make sure
there wasn't anything

left there,
there was no damages

that we had to
write down and get fixed.

There was a weird smell,
like something was rotting.

I have this weird,
overwhelming feeling that...

there's something
in the bathroom.

Seeing what I saw in front of
me and the feeling that I got

from it froze me.

But there was nothing there.

Are you okay?

Yeah.

I felt chills over
my entire body.

I was scared.

- Let's get out of here.
- Yeah.

I saw something run
into the bathroom.

My manager, he was like,
"I saw the same thing."

The brief moment that I had
looking at this figure running

across the room,
the movement of it was

very... odd.
It kind of jerked as it ran,

but it looked like it glided
as well.

So the movement
was not of something

that a human could make.

There's nothing in there.

When this case begins,
we're hearing the sound

of rain--
we're just hearing things.

We imagined it.

But then we start seeing other
phenomena, and these other

phenomena involve
different senses.

They start smelling things,

and then they start
seeing things.

Now, any of our senses
can be fooled.

When you start to see
multiple senses,

at the same time, less likely
that they're all being fooled.

- Let's just get out of here.
- OK, I'll follow you.

As we left the unit,
we were...

in a daze.
It-- it didn't feel real.

Just both experiencing
the exact same thing

and the entire feeling
of the apartment,

the rotting smell, it felt...

very creepy.

When investigating
a paranormal case,

it's just like
investigating a crime.

You want to know whodunit,
and you want to know why.

The best starting point is
usually the location itself,

the place in which
the incident occurred.

Not just the building itself,

but also the ground that
it stands on.

Las Vegas is known as Sin City,
and it was built by the mob.

And it's a city with a lot of
blood on its hands and a lot of

blood in its history.

There are bodies in unmarked
graves all over the place,

especially in the earlier days
of Las Vegas.

Where John and Leilani live now
is the outskirts of town.

It's a ordinary-looking
subdivision.

Back in the early days of Vegas
history, though, this would

have been desert, the kind of
desert that's a great place to

go dispose of a body in
the middle of the night.

Is it possible that
the spirit

of somebody who was dumped in
one of those unmarked graves

is restlessly wandering around
and causing all

of the activity?

In the vacant apartment,
for the longest time,

we couldn't get...

any power or any electricity
in there.

It would say that it was on in
the energy system and on

the computer, but every time
we had the guys go there,

the power wouldn't work.

My manager and I chalked that
incident up to, there might be

a faulty connection.

But in the back of both of
our minds, we knew that...

there was something in
that apartment.

Paranormal investigators have
long noticed that there is

a link between electrical
problems at a location

and paranormal activity.

It's very common for us to go
into a location and find that

our freshly charged brand-new
batteries are suddenly dead

after 20 minutes.
Where is that energy going?

And the most common hypothesis

is that it's going
to the spirits.

It is allowing them to
fuel their manifestations.

It was just one thing after
another, every single day.

We decided to share
our experiences in our podcast.

This is our podcast studio,
and we record every week after

10 PM, after the baby
falls asleep.

Our podcast is called

And we just chat about
anything true crime,

anything paranormal,
and anything that has to do

with anything creepy.

- You hear that?
- What?

And I started hearing static.

Johnathan. Johnathan.

I don't know, it's--

It's loud.

Can you not hear it?

Johnathan.

Ugh... wha--

I'm coming for you.

I'm coming for you.

It was not only static,
but it sounded like there was

a voice in there.

- Do you not hear it?
- No.

I checked on my laptop how
the sound was picking up,

and the static wasn't picking
up on my soundboard.

The voice that I was hearing

wasn't getting picked
up either.

The only thing that was getting
picked up was me talking.

When she told me,
I automatically believed her.

I didn't try to diffuse it
in any way.

I was like, "OK, so what do
we do about this?"

They're not
dyed-in-the-wool skeptics.

They obviously have some degree
of belief in the paranormal.

The fact is that
when you open your mind

toward the paranormal,
when you acknowledge

its existence or even
its potential, sometimes it

shows an interest back in you.

Statistically, the likelihood
that we're dealing with

a haunting because John
and Leilani happened to move

into a house that happened to
be in the vicinity of

one of these unmarked graves, at
first glance, it seems to fit.

But here's the problem.

The paranormal activities seem
pretty generic at first,

but as time has gone on,

it's gotten to be a little
too close to home.

What we're dealing with is
a pattern of events

that isn't random.

It seems to have taken on
the characteristics

of a stalker.

Johnathan. Johnathan.

Johnathan...

So the next morning, Leilani is
at work, and I get to work

editing the episode that we had
just recorded, when I start

hearing the static
and distortion as well.

Johnathan...

The biggest thing unusual about
it is that I didn't see it

while we were recording.

But underneath all the static,
it did sound like a voice.

John, John, Johnathan...

Johnathan...

I'm coming for you.

As this was happening,
I started feeling this presence

behind me, this weird,
heavy feeling that somebody

pushing up against me.

I was pretty scared because it
was just me and the baby home.

When I turned around,
nobody was there.

My daughter starts screaming
and crying, so I get up

and I check.

And the swing starts moving
and jittery like crazy.

I'm trying to, you know,

press the buttons to
turn it off,

but nothing was working.

That's when I was more scared
than I'd been

this entire time,
because that's my baby.

I couldn't get it to stop,
so the only thing

that I thought to do was unplug
the entire thing.

And even after I unplugged it,
the display stayed on,

and I couldn't explain that.

What's needed now is a motive

to explain the reason behind
this haunting.

And just a few days later,

that motive is made all
too clear.

A few days later,
Leilani and the baby

had gone out shopping.

Lani, is that you?

Hello?

I went down the hallway.
I checked every room.

I checked the bathroom.

And I especially wanted to
check the baby's room.

And I even went as far as to
check my room as well.

But nobody was there.

I couldn't explain it,
but somehow somebody had walked

down this hallway and vanished
into thin air.

Who or what is the entity in
John and Leilani's apartment?

The one key piece comes
into play.

It's what the spirit
was wearing.

Now, I thought it was Leilani

because she did have long
black hair.

But the woman that I saw
was wearing a black dress.

Lani, is that you?

This is when everything started
to click in my mind that these

instances were not
just one-offs.

These instances were all
connected in some sort of way.

I started feeling like this
could be connected to something

that had happened to me

years ago when I was still
in high school.

I'm coming for you.

A truly dark memory
that I tried to bury.

My friends and I had just
graduated high school.

We wanted to just have one last
hurrah and just go

and do something crazy.

And in my hometown, there was
this abandoned farmhouse that

had been there for years.

Everybody who grew up in this
town knew that this house was

this creepy, old,
haunted, abandoned house.

Don't be scared.
It's gonna be fun.

OK, fine.
I'm not scared.

Let's go in here.

We started having this
uneasy feeling.

And we heard creaks
that sounded

like people were walking
on old wooden floorboards.

- Wait,
do you guys hear that?
- Quiet.

Hear what?

We were all together,
so we knew that it wasn't one

of us making the noise.

- What was that?
- What is that?

- Where?
- She went
over there.

Where?

Oh, my God.

I see this
weird figure.

Johnathan.

We decided to
instigate and say,

"I'm not scared of you."

John.

- Run! Run! Run!
- Let's get out
of here.

We all
freaked out and ran.

I'm coming for you.

It's never a good idea to
disrespect spirits.

The provocation that Johnathan
did of the female spirit,

this has now come back to
bite him.

There is a possibility that
the reason he's being followed

is because he provoked that
entity a long time ago

with his friends.

And he was kind of the one
gathering everybody around

and leading everyone.

The entity may be following him
because he seems like...

he was in charge.

Spirits don't necessarily work
on the same timeframe as we do

in our material world.

So it may be that she has been
biding her time, and now that

the time suits her, she is back
and she's ready for revenge.

It has been three months since
we first experienced the figure

in the apartment.

And to this day, it is still
not rented.

We have tried renting it

and it doesn't seem to stick
with anybody.

People may, once hearing
the story, tell us to just

move, but I don't think
it's the place.

I'm doing what I can to
the best of my abilities

and what I know how to do.

We have crystals,

and we sage the house regularly
for protection.

The three of us, my daughter,
Johnathan, and I, we all sleep

in our room, and we haven't
moved her to her room yet.

If this woman in black were to
physically harm my daughter in

any way, that's when I would
need to intervene and find

somebody to help me make
this stop.

But the good thing is it hasn't
gotten to that point yet.

I just would like
whatever this is

to just finally
leave us alone.

I don't know what will
solve it,

but I just know that wherever
we go, she will follow us.

I moved to
Brandon in 2015.

Brandon is just outside
of Tampa.

I was burned out from
the rat race.

So I came here looking for
a new start.

I fell in love with the area
right away.

I'm a clinical transpersonal
hypnotherapist, and this is

the building
where I rented my office.

It was quiet, it was
affordable, it was perfect.

But I was dead wrong.

Erin Goodpipe, Cahni Konig.
Take one.

Cahni Konig's case is
really interesting to me

because she's a hypnotherapist.

And you're delving into realms
where there is a thin veil

or a doorway that's opened into
the spiritual realm.

So I'm really fascinated by
what happens here.

I just felt that this
was the right place

for my practice.

There were massage therapists,

family therapists,
and counselors.

So I felt like I fit in
with the building.

When doing an investigation,
the first thing that I look at

is the location
of the haunting.

Florida, with so much haunted
history, so many stories,

you know, of trauma.

We have everything from Civil
Wars, we have plantations,

we have prisons.

So this really creates a hotbed

for paranormal activity
to happen.

There could be angry spirits
that want to be seen, that want

to be heard, that want
their stories to be told.

Although this is
a building with other tenants,

they just didn't seem to be
here very often.

I was the only one here
a lot of the time.

When I first came
into the building, I noticed

that it was really, really dark
on the inside.

Like the air was thicker,

even when there's lights
in here.

And even when
they've changed the bulbs,

it didn't really
seem to matter.

It's kind of like the darkness

in the hallways
would swallow up the light.

I couldn't shake the feeling of
heaviness and dread,

and it just seemed to be
getting worse.

I did ask the landlord about
the building, and he said that

it had been a house when
he purchased it

and he renovated it.

Cahni's building was actually
built in the 1950s.

However, in the '90s, it was
converted for commercial use.

You know, what people don't
realize is that land

and property has so
much history.

So maybe there's something from
the past trying to

get her attention.

I was trying to ignore
the darkness that I was feeling

in the building,
but that didn't quite work out.

Hello?

I started hearing
strange sounds.

It was kind of like it was
scratching on the inside

of the wall.

I was scared out of my mind.

I would get phone calls

on my business line.

Hello?

They would just not
say anything.

And I would just feel like
I was being watched.

I felt like I wasn't safe.

When working
on a case like Cahni's,

I find it to be
extremely urgent.

She's working
in this building alone,

so Cahni has to consider
it can be

a very dangerous situation.

The clues so far,
the feeling of being heavy

or heaviness, the feeling of
being watched, of a threat,

or feeling a sense of fear,
you know, they all could point

to a paranormal phenomena
that's happening.

But first, we also have to rule
out that it could be human.

We could have a stalker or
an intruder on our hands here.

There are buildings on
either side of this one.

And I know that one of
the buildings has had issues

with homeless people breaking
in and stealing things.

This right here is the back
entrance to the building.

And, oftentimes, I had wondered
if somebody was sneaking in

and out of the building.

So over here
is Dark Park.

At night, it's extremely dark
over there.

And there's plenty of places
for people to hide.

So somebody could be sneaking
over in the darkness, unseen.

And as a woman, I kind of
wondered if maybe somebody was

after me, maybe somebody was
stalking me, maybe I angered

a client or something along
those lines.

I was wondering, why was it
so intense?

Why was I feeling scared?

Why was I feeling like
I was being targeted?

Thursday, the Fourth of July,

I'm not sure if
you're taking the day off...

Cahni? Cahni?

- Are you there?
- I was the only one
in the office.

I saw a shadow.

I felt like this shadow was
watching me.

I thought, what if
it's trying to get in?

I was absolutely terrified.

And right here is
the window to my office.

And this is where I saw that
shadow figure.

And it was walking back
and forth and back and forth.

It was really, really scary

because I had no clue
what it was.

It was very dense.
It was very dark.

I didn't see
a lot of details with it.

But it definitely appeared
to be a human-type shape.

Then it went off to the right,
and it disappeared.

The next night,
I was working late.

I had just come from
the kitchen, and I was putting

my key in the door.

And I happened to glance over
at my landlord's office.

Sir?

I had no idea where it went.

All I knew is that I was scared
out of my mind.

I knew it was not a figment of
my imagination.

There is a really special
particular moment

in Cahni's case where this
spirit is being watched

by Cahni, and he realizes
that he's being watched,

that Cahni can see him.

And so now there's a connection
that's potentially made here.

Paranormal activity
is absolutely

what's going on
right now.

Could the man in the window,
but also the man that she saw

in the hallway,
be the same person?

And if it is, who is it?

And then tomorrow
we can do the same thing.

That works for me.
Perfect.

OK, great,
Cahni, thank you.

Perfect.

- I have to go.
- Bye.

I started hearing this...

disembodied wailing sound.

Stop!

Stop!

It was a pained,
suffering, suffering sound.

It was bone-chilling.

It has a very, very
distinct sound.

Who's there?

Who's in the building?

I thought, what is that?
Why is this happening?

- Are you there?
- Cahni!

Cahni!

Cahni!

And then...

I heard it wailing my name.
It shook me.

It just shook me to the core.

- Cahni!
- Stop it!

- Cahni!
- Stop it!

This was the most disturbing
thing I have ever heard.

- Cahni!
- Stop it!

It was just,
you know, unbelievably loud.

Stop it!

Cahni!

Cahni!

Now, we really have to pay
attention here to the way that

this spirit is calling Cahni's
name and how Cahni is feeling

after hearing this spirit
call her name.

It appears like this spirit is
targeting Cahni specifically,

and I want to know why.
What is the motive behind this?

It was a Friday.

It was late in the evening,
and there was a heaviness.

I saw him again.

It was just very menacing.

Get out!
I will kill you.

I truly felt like
I was in danger.

I was totally helpless.
I was vulnerable.

I didn't know what
the limit was.

I didn't know what this guy
could possibly do to me,

but I knew it wasn't gonna
be anything good.

This entity has now put Cahni
in a position where she can

no longer ignore it,
and she has to take action now.

People had asked me,
why don't you just move?

Why are you staying in
this building?

And for some reason, I felt
like I didn't want to go

and move out of the building
and have some sort of regret

that this thing won.

I reached out to
a really good medium.

Out of the blue,
the medium said,

"He's really angry, huh?"

And I just looked at her
and I said, "Yeah,

and I don't know what to do."

I know you're here.

I feel that the spirit turned
its sights on Cahni

because of the fear.

Cahni was probably one of
the first people that

encountered the spirit head-on.

It knew that Cahni was
vulnerable and took advantage

of the situation that Cahni
was in the building by herself,

and that she was someone that
feared him.

He continued to terrorize her
because he felt that

he could control her
and the situation.

The medium told this man,
"You're being stupid.

"You're choosing to trap
yourself in this building.

"You're stuck in this human way
of thinking when you're not

"even a human.
You don't have to be here.

You don't have to do this."

And they said, "You're free."

And he left.

She said, "I think this has
to do with your landlord."

This angry spirit was actually
after my landlord.

The spirit was standing
in front of

the landlord's office.

Cahni's landlord is a forensic
psychologist, and they testify

if defendants are capable of
standing trial,

which could piss off
a lot of people.

In this case,
he more than likely

sent this person
to prison.

It's plausible for a spirit
to be seeking revenge on someone

that would have sent them to
prison, someone that would have

altered the course
of their life.

I could absolutely see why
they would want to get revenge.

My landlord was very clinical,
very black-and-white.

I don't see him as being
the type of person that would

believe in these types
of things.

I felt like I was the one that
was being targeted.

I was aware of him, and he was
aware of the fact that I was

aware of him, I felt
that I needed to deal with it

in some way, shape,
or form.

I was really proud of the fact
that Cahni stood up for

herself because oftentimes
you get people who are living

in situations
and they just say,

"OK, you can be
the boss here."

But Cahni stood up to
the spirit and said,

"I don't want to leave here."
Um, you know,

and ultimately
the spirit could go on.

And so it's just really
important that we remember that

as people, that we can stand up
to spirits and ultimately have

a humanity for the spiritual
realm, for these spirits that

are here, because they are also
going through a journey.

After the visit with
the medium,

the building felt
completely different.

It felt a lot lighter.
It felt more welcoming.

But I never mentioned any of
this to my landlord.

I definitely feel compassion
for this spirit because of what

he was caught up in.

I have no clue how much time

he spent trapping himself in
this building.

This angry spirit,
he was once a human,

and he was so caught up

in everything that
he had gone through,

it came with him even
after his passing.

This whole experience made me

even more compassionate
to people.

And so I think that it made me
a more effective hypnotherapist

and more understanding.

So I really try to see all of
the good things that came out

of this situation.
