This is Paula Collins reporting from the
Westpac Mini Mart located at 53rd and

Broadway, where less than an hour ago an
armed robbery occurred.

The store owner and female suspect were
both shot and killed, and off -duty LAPD

officer Nick Carter was wounded.

A male assailant who is yet to be
identified jumped Officer Carter as he

the store.

A scuffle ensued, and during the
confusion, the store owner, who is

as Emilio Sanchez, was shot and killed.

Officer Carter alleges that the fatal
shot came from a female accomplice who

then shot and killed.

Carter was shot by the male robber who
fled the scene and is still at large.

Officer Carter has more citations for
bravery than any other officer in his

Violence. The district attorney's office
has promised a full investigation into
