to find the Aztec treasure.

of long-lost Aztec gold.

It's been a rough few days
for us at the ranch, for sure.

We failed at draining the pond,
but more importantly,

my dad falling ill
and leaving the ranch.

And that definitely
has me concerned.

Finding this gold is his dream.

It'll never be the same
if he's not out there with me.

I mean, 'cause we started this
a long time ago,

and I was right there with him.

Yes!

This is a dream and a goal
we chased together.

But I'm definitely gonna keep
searching for that goal.

I mean, not just for my dad,
but for me.

And I may not make
the same decisions

that my dad would make,
but I'm fully committed

to finding this treasure now.

And we're gonna find it.

For the past three months,

Chad and Josh have been tracing
the flooded tunnel path,

uncovering a series
of Aztec markers

pointing to the treasure.

Is this not a bear
guarding the cave?

But their attempts
to drill and dive

into the flooded system
both failed.

That's twice as high as it was
when we left last night.

This isn't good.

So now Chad is turning to Eric,
who has been methodically

testing the radioactive rocks
on the ranch to locate

an alternate entrance
to the chamber.

We have found uranium
here at the Energy Zone,

and we have uranium
at the open pit mine, too,

so there's a connection there.

We found a shatter cone
a half mile away

from the energy zone.

That now makes
three different locations

with evidence
of a meteor strike.

The thing is,
I think that means fragments

from the same meteor
struck multiple locations

along that fault line.

Each one of these impacts
could be a way

into that cavern system.

These are doorways
into the underground.

And hopefully it's connected
to that, uh, keyhole chamber.

After analyzing
the rock samples,

Eric believes the caves
at the open pit mine

are actually
meteorite impact sites

that lead down
into the Keyhole Chamber.

If my research is right,

we gotta go back
to that open pit mine.

Last season, Chad and Eric
discovered an open pit mine

two miles north of the ranch
where they found evidence

of historic mining.

This could be 1930s,
it could be late 1800s,

we don't know.

But based on his new insight,

Eric now believes the mine
entrances are not man-made.

I don't think
those were open pit mines.

I think those
were openings to the earth

created by meteorite strikes

that were later mined
for iron and gold.

the signs these civilizations

left behind

is a remote location

that's super dangerous.

the last time we were up there,

Josh and Charlie with us.

and occasionally wolves.

It's kind of a hike,

and so it's pretty
much undiscovered.

But this could be much older,
and now we need to be looking

for deeper impacts
on the ground.

Me and Eric are gonna go up
that way towards this fault,

but we'll have radios

And if so, there has to be
an entrance nearby.

to, uh, see if there's
voids down there,

maybe a cave entrance.

ancient mining sites,

I get into detective mode.

I'm looking at everything.

at the rock formation,

I'm looking for mineralization.

These old mine sites
all tell a story.

If I can figure out
what kind of system of mining

was happening here,
I can follow the trail

into more cave openings.

I'm gonna metal detect this,
the mine site right here.

Copper, silver, gold,
all of that.

and then, I'm gonna look
at the vein structure

going in the drifts here,

and see the vein
they were actually following.

After repelling the face
of the 60-foot escarpment,

Eric has uncovered
a cave opening.

they were chasing?

a naturally occurring cave.

We don't know what's in there
or if it could collapse,

or if there's, like,
poisonous gases,

so we always leave

get trapped in there.

mineralization in here.

If we can find more of these,
it might give us an in

a piece of dark,
dark material here.

I'm gonna look at it

first of all, I pick it up,

and it's got some heft to it.

It's got some weight to it,
which indicates possibly iron.

So I mean, there's-- there's
iron throughout this mine.

You can see it.

Iron in nature, when it reacts
with water, it oxidizes

and it turns red--
it's rust, basically.

What I've got here is something
completely different.

I think we got
a meteorite fragment.

So the meteor likely
broke up in the atmosphere

into several smaller chunks.

So these fragments
crashed into the earth

all along this fault line.

Say this is
where the treasure chamber is.

So this is the meteorite, right?

If it came in
from this direction,

there could be
meteorite fragments

all along this trend.

It could lead us all the way
down into the Keyhole Chamber.

a larger impact opening.

that leads to the treasure.

I found it right underneath
this flat stone right here.

Think of ancient
Native Americans.

And all this quartz
is broke up

'cause they were breaking quartz

on this rock,

This stone tool,
the Spanish didn't do this.

They didn't have
stone tools like this.

The Mormons did not do this.

I mean, this looks
like Native American,

where they're just using stone.

They're using actual
stone tools, but for mining,

what this is telling me is
maybe this mine

goes back 1,000 years.

Throughout the reign
of the empire,

Aztecs used a variety
of stone tools,

including metates,
used for grinding corn,

and axes made of jade,

which were used
to construct their pyramids.

But the most versatile
was the hammerstone,

which is a flat-bottom rock
with an etched center

that acts as a handle,
used to crush stone

and extract precious minerals.

I mean, this could be
the ancestors to the Aztec.

They were the first ones here
to find this mineral deposit.

And if they were mining
in this area

where meteorite strikes
caused cavern openings,

it's possible
that one of these tunnels

could lead all the way down
into the Keyhole Chamber.

As best I can tell,
the veins they were chasing

headed off in that direction.

came out of a much deeper hole

to check in on my dad.

He's staying in town
until they finish all the tests

that they're running on him.

That's the main concern
right now,

is getting him back healthy,

and getting him back on
the ranch so we can keep going.

I think I prolonged a bunch

who wants to sit
in the freaking doctor's office.

I don't know if it'll be a week,
two weeks, or a couple days,

but you're gonna have
to grab a hold of those guys

and step up and,
just like you always have,

I know my dad hates
the idea of leaving the ranch

and going to Texas
for more testing.

But his health is the most
important thing right now.

The evidence we found
by the open pit mine

is really exciting.

The most important
discovery yet.

The great thing about the void
we found is that this is right

along that fault trend.

I think we should bring in
some equipment

to help scan that area.

Based on how very remote
and steep that area is,

I wanna bring in
another LiDAR drone,

but a more powerful one.

Several months ago, Eric used
a long-range LiDAR drone

to scan the fault line,
identifying the open pit mine.

You see that bare spot there?
It looks like an open pit mine.

But this time,
Eric wants to bring

a 4D high-penetration LiDAR,

an enhanced version
capable of scanning around

the most dense layers
of rock and vegetation.

This enhanced version
is called a full waveform LiDAR.

It's cutting-edge technology

and provides
the highest resolution possible.

By concentrating
the LiDAR in that one area

and using
the high-penetration technology,

we'll be able to find
every single opening

that could be covered
by rocks and vegetation.

That could ultimately
give us an answer

to where another
cave entrance could be.

Let's go with Eric's plan.

Scout that whole area,
and we might

come up with something.

near the open pit mine...

This whole
thing is a void, man.

Eric and the team are running
a high-penetration LiDAR drone

near the collapsed pit,
scanning for openings

that might connect underground.

By focusing on this particular
area near the open pit mine,

and by using a stronger LiDAR
with more lasers,

we'll have way better details
of the landscape.

We wanna find a cave entrance.

And once we find a cave
entrance, ultimately,

we wanna find that treasure.

We're going to search
about three or four more.

But I did pick up
an interesting cliffside

during that first scan.

The cliff lines up
with the void, and it appears

to have holes in them.
