Today, I'm house-hunting in

and around Ciudad Quesada on
Spain's ever-popular Costa Blanca.

I'm Lee Juggurnauth.

Using my passion for interior design,

I've bought, renovated, and sold

several properties both in the UK
and overseas.

Today, I'll be using all my
knowledge to find

the perfect place for
Michelle and Mark,

who are talking my language from
the start.

This is really nice.

This is the solarium what we're
after. Like, this is perfect.

And the superlatives keep on coming.

Wow.

"Wow," she says. Wow, yeah. I like.

"Wow," he says? Yeah, very well.

I have a few of my own at
a luxury pad.

My goodness!

Wow, that view is sensational.

We sit having breakfast,

watching the golfers in the morning.

We never get bored of that view.

But at the end of the day,

do I find my house hunters their
perfect place in the sun?

Bit of us by the looks of it, isn't
it? Yeah, really excited.

Since they first met 15 years ago,

Michelle and Mark have visited
Spain on many occasions

and even got engaged here.

They're now finally in the
position where they can fulfil

their long-held dream of buying a
holiday home here in the Spanish sun.

Mark, who owns a
construction business,

and Michelle, who works in
accounts at the company,

live in East Sussex and have
been married for ten years.

We met in a bar, and...

A bar in Hailsham, me mate's bar,

and she just took me eye.

So at the end of the night,

I chased her out before
she got in a cab and, uh,

the rest is history.
It went from there. Yeah.

Eh, girl? Yeah, you ran after me,
didn't you? Mm.

How lucky are you? I know.

And he's my toy boy.

Bit of rough, normally, she calls
me.

Sadly, both Michelle's mum
and stepdad have passed away

over the last few years after battles
with cancer.

Having cared for them both during
their last few months,

it's been a tough time for Michelle.

But with four children and three
grandchildren between them,

the couple are now keen
to find somewhere that

the whole family can enjoy around
Cuidad Quesada

with their budget of £85,000.

Nicely positioned a 15-minute drive
from the beach on the Costa Blanca,

Cuidad Quesada is pretty easy
to get to,

being just 30 or so miles from
Alicante Airport.

Best known for its friendly expat
community,

great golf courses,
and stunning natural surroundings,

Quesada has a lot
to offer both holiday-makers

and those looking to make
a permanent move.

There are lots of developments
surrounding the town,

packed with great properties for us
to view.

And the weather's not too bad either,

with that classic Mediterranean
climate offering average summer

temperatures in the high 20s

and in the winter barely dipping
below 15 degrees.

Compared to some of its neighbours on
the Southern Spanish coast,

the Costa Blanca is still one of
the most affordable places to buy.

Studio apartments can be snapped up
for as little as £30,000.

Even though there's been a price
increase

of over 10% in the last year,

this part of Spain is still one of
the most popular

for British holiday-makers that
wanna make their dream a reality.

And while I'm keen to get going
and show Mark and Michelle theirs,

I need to get a bit more info,

so we're starting down on the beach
in La Zenia for a bit of a chat.

What was the reason for your visit?

What is it about this area,

Ciudad Quesada, that you like so
much?

Well, didn't really know anything
about it. OK.

But we've got friends that
live here. OK.

Which is why we was here
last weekend. Yeah.

Quesada, it was just,
it's just beautiful.

And it's got everything in
walking distance. Yeah.

You know, it's got all the amenities
that we could possibly need,

so, yeah, we just really liked it,
so.

And what do you picture life being
like when you do come out here?

What's it looking like?

Your shoulders are gonna go down...
Yeah. ..and you're just gonna...

Just gonna be sitting
around by the pool, that's why.

Taking in the sunshine.

And just relaxing and just walking
to the bars and restaurants.

Bit of a game of golf in
the afternoon. Yeah.

Get some "you time." Yeah.

That's it, recharge, recharge your
batteries, you know what I mean.?

Yeah. So, that dream property,
hit me with it, what we looking at?

So we're looking at a
two-bed apartment or house

with a communal pool... Yeah.

..um, that's got a lot of outdoor
space.

Probably a rooftop solarium. Yeah.

Or if it was a ground floor,
we'd wanna have like quite

a big, like, outdoor space.

We're looking more traditional
Spanish or quite modern?

Oh, we're quite open. Yeah?

Yeah, we're quite open to both.

Now obviously, Mr Tradesman over
here. Yeah.

You looking to do any work at all?

Not if I can help it.

But obviously, it's not a
deal-breaker if work needs doing.

OK, we've got a budget of 85,£000.
That's right.

First of all... Yeah.

There's two or three grand.

So we wanna really keep it at

While they've recently experienced
the good times that can be had,

I think a stop in
the centre of town is in order.

We went to a bar along
the strip there, yeah. Yeah?

As atmosphere's go, you really get
everything here. Yeah.

I mean, you've got the nightlife,
but the day life here as well.

Come down here for a lovely
breakfast in the morning. Yeah.

Bit of lunch, stroll down,
do some shopping.

That's it, yeah.

I think it's a beautiful place.

Everyone seems so friendly.
Everyone seems really friendly.

Just chilled. Yeah.

Just, yeah, can see it being a
bit of us. Yeah.

That's the best thing about
this place.

I mean, there's a great
expat community.

Love it here, yeah.

First property I'm about
to show you is

a five-minute drive away from all
of this.

It's in the Pueblo Brava area
of Quesada,

one of its most popular and pricey.

However, the average two-bed
apartment is still within budget,

although in surrounding towns,

the same money would get you
a two-bed house.

So, you asked me for
a communal pool, Michelle. Yeah.

You delivered. You delivered.

Sorry, but what a pool this is.

It's a lovely pool.

All looks very nice and well taken
care of. Yeah? Yeah.

What would the family
and grandkids think of this?

Oh, they'd love it. Yeah?

Yeah, really love it. Happy so far.

As first impressions go?

Good so far. Yeah.

Ah, I like this.

The property we're looking at is
just around the corner.

Now, gang, the property we are
looking at is a first floor,

two-bedroom, one bathroom,
beautiful apartment. Yeah.

Traditional in style,

it's got a lovely balcony in
the front just there.

And then the piece de resistance,

a lovely, fantastically-sized
rooftop solarium.

Lovely.

So it's on the market
for just under £83,500.

Yeah, in our budget, perfect.

There's been quite a few viewings.

There has been an offer of just over
£74,500, which was rejected.

Yeah. But maybe slight room
for negotiation. Yeah.

this apartment has a small balcony
and that huge roof terrace,

which I think they'll be spending
most of their time on.

Inside, it's open-plan with a living,

dining, and kitchen space leading
through to the two bedrooms -

the main is bigger than the second -

and a bathroom.

but in terms of location,
we are close to the main strip.

Quite sure we'll be spending

of it's great urbanisations.

who, along with his wife, Suzie,

hosted Michelle and Mark last week,

to meet us for a chat.

Simon, you moved out here when?

Er, four years ago now. OK.

Has having had Simon
and his wife here,

has that been a big draw for you?

Yeah, because it's nice

to have somebody that
you know well...

because they can help you
with everything,

Simon, what piece of advice could you
give Mark and Michelle

and anyone in their circumstance
that are looking for a place,

they've never been here before,

what piece of advice could you
give them?

Do everything step by step.

Follow the rules
and do it properly.

Even down to things like,

uh, it's preferable to do
a Spanish will.

Yeah, yeah. But this is what we've
got you for. Exactly.

Well, exactly.

Costs very little.

It's usually bundled in.

But if you do that, then it
separates the two,

and there's no conflicting, uh,

problems from the UK
to here or vice versa. Yeah.

It's very simple here,
and just go through the steps.

Although my first option in one of
the best parts of town wasn't

a contender, it's roof terrace
really impressed.

These two just want plenty
of space inside as well,

for themselves and family to enjoy,

working with their budget of £85,000.

We're staying in Quesada
for our second option,

but heading to the other side
of town.

While property prices are
a touch lower here,

demand is currently outstripping
supply throughout this area,

and properties are moving quickly.

So...

..a short walk away... Yeah.

..from our lovely Simon. Yeah. Yeah.

Just over 300 metres away.

What more could you want?

Well, we went to
the bar up there last weekend.

Lovely roast dinner,
English roast dinner.

Yeah, beautiful. Beautiful.

is our second property.

And this was just not a dream

This was something that you shared
with your dad, wasn't it?

Yeah, that's right, yeah.

Was he a big fan of
a move to Spain?

Yeah. He really wanted to do it,
and unfortunately

he got cancer, and we'd only lost
my mum in August 2020.

So it happened within quite a...
Yeah, 22 months between them.

Wow. So it was one of the last
things he said, really.

That's what he told us. He told us
to do it, "Make sure you do it."

So we're doing it. Yeah.

Aren't we, for him? I've got him
with me. For him, for us.

I've got both their wedding rings
I wear every day, so.

Love that. Yeah.

He would be really pleased that
we're doing this right now.

solid contender

and I'm hoping to keep
the ball rolling.

They're looking for somewhere
spacious for themselves

and their family which is within
reach of plenty of holiday fun

for their budget of £85,000,

and our second apartment close to
the action in Quesada

had plenty of both.

So with a contender secured there,

we've now come to El Chapparral
just outside Torrevieja

for our next.

Prices are lower here and
there's loads on the market

to choose from, meaning I've been
able to offer even more space

and another communal pool.

What do you think?

three-bedroom apartment.

actually look quite pretty, I think.

So pick and choose your time
throughout the day

and you do get some aspects of sun.

for about a month.

My final property has even more
and I can't wait to show it off.

and some spectacular views

for just shy of £1.5 million.

in the winter. Yeah.

So you can sit down there with
your blanket and have a few drinks.

I mean, it's got a real nice family
element to it as well with

the seating area
and the kitchen as well.

Yeah, that's what we wanted.

We wanted our family and friends to
come and feel comfortable,

and just be able to enjoy
the space.

It's an incredible,
incredible house.
