now, before you get too excited,
Let me explain.

this is an investigation,
Not a field trip.

the opera house has been
A social and entertainment venue

here in wellington since 1914.

this opera house
Has a proscenium arch.

now, this is an arch
That frames the stage

between the audience
And the performers.

Now, the interesting thing
About this arch

Is that the construction
Was supervised

By architect albert liddy,
And he died in the opera house.

Another story regarding
The proscenium arch is that,

Supposedly, it's sort of
A cursed area.

There have been several
Physical accidents

That have happened to performers
And technicians

Near and about the arch.

So the arch is thought
To be a place

Where people have gotten hurt,

And people seem to associate it
With the death of liddy.

About the history?

It was built in 1930.

It seats
About 1,500 people,

Which was quite a big theater
For its time.

And we understand
That you've had

Some paranormal
Occurrences here.

Oh, yeah, we have.

Well, here we are onstage.

And you're looking out at
The auditorium, as you can see.

The central quarter--

The apparitions and things
That occur here--

Is a belief that the site
Architect called albert liddy

Killed himself and that
He did it in the theater.

he was just a person
Who was sent here

to oversee the construction
Of the theater.

And something went wrong--
The design of the building.

The story goes
That he hung himself.

Over a relatively short
Period-- about six months--

Three bad accidents occurred
In the theater.

And what's more,
They all happened

In exactly the same place--
Right there.

Robb: in this box?
In that box, yeah.

Well, andy, you know
Whereyou're going.

Yeah. [ laughs ]

You mentioned that there's some
Paranormal activity--

That you can see the spot
From here.

It was late one night,

And our house electrician
Had to go all the way up
To the gallery.

Suddenly he appeared in
The doorway, white as a ghost.

And I said to him, "Tom,
What the hell's the matter?"

And he said,
"Somebody brushed passed me

In the gallery stairwell."

We were the only people
That were there.

When I was the custodian there,

I often had the feeling

That there was someone
Up in the auditorium,

Watching what I was doing.

One night, I'm standing here
With one of the cast,

And she said,
"Is this theater haunted?"

And I said, "It could be."

And she said, "The chap
Who haunts this place--

Is he short and balding,
With glasses?"

And I said,
"Well, it could be."

And she said, "Well, he just
Walked across the gallery."

Shields:
I'd like to see some evidence

On perhaps what motivated
Albert liddy

To take his own life
And what was the fault,

If any, that he found
In the theater.

I've ever seen in my life.

I was taking a bunch

I get this big black mass.

It's kind of like coming off
Of dustin and enveloping andy.

In theaters to isolate audio

And try to figure out
What we were picking up on.

Came up to the balcony,

we did have a story here

of someone seeing a man
Run across the entire top.

that may be the light
Playing tricks with me,

but I'm not sure if I'm seeing
Movement on the stage,

So I'm contemplating actually
Grabbing the full spectrum.

Robb: the full-spectrum camera
Allows us to capture images

In the infrared spectrum,
The visible-light spectrum,

And the ultraviolet spectrum,

In order to see if there's
Any kind of paranormal activity

Going on in that spectrum.

While barry set up his camera,

Donna and I started
An evp session

To see if we could capture
Anything on audio.

this opera house is filled
With very vivid memories,

I'm sure, of years and years
Of performances--

Dramas, ballets.

I saw something.

I saw, like, a flash...

And then another flash.

But I saw something.

It caught my eye twice.

At first,
I just disregarded it,

And then it caught my eye again,
And I looked.

[ camera shutter clicks ]

I saw a bright flash
To my right, down a few rows,

And at first I just thought,

You know, "It's your eyes
Refocusing.

It could be anything."

And then I looked
In that direction,

And I saw another
Couple flashes.

There was no mistaking.

It wasn't just like a glimmer
Of something.

It was bright.

I'm really hoping that barry
Caught something on his camera

And this is something
That the guys can pick up

In their evidence review.

So I started out on the stage,

I heard what sounded like voices
Coming from the stairwell.

as I went down the stairwell,
The lights did come on.

we've had investigators up
And down the stairs all night,

and that's the first time
That the lights turned on.

[ door creaking ]

I didn't see anyone
In the stairway,

So I decided to go back up
To the third floor.

Went down by yourself?
Yeah.

There's nobody down there
Anyway, so...

I didn't see anyone
In the stairway.

I can't be sure
What it was I heard,

But maybe we caught something
On the wireless microphones.

This is one
Tired-looking group.

Oh, yeah.

I think that we have done
This place pretty thoroughly,

so if everyone's cool with it,
I say we get some lights on,

get packed up,
And get some rest.

Actually turned out pretty well.

we definitely were able
To get something interesting

Up on the catwalk.

At this point, we need
To get back, review it,

And get a better look at it,

And make sure that it wasn't
Any kind of finger

Saying that's a ghost.

He had the minidv camera.
I had an audio recorder.

It almost sounds like they're--
I don't know--

To me it sounds like
A female,

Which would be interesting
Since donna wasn't up
There with us.

But I can't really make out
What she's saying too clearly.

Hmm. Whoa.

So, tons and tons and tons and
Tons of evidence to go through.

Yeah.

And you guys made it.

We did get a couple very
Interesting pieces.

This is when we were up
On the catwalk.

It was brian, myself,
And andy.

Andy had the minidv
Recorder,

I had a handheld recorder,
And brian had the flash camera.

And you will hear on this,
Kind of roughly,

What sounds like a whisper.

And then I'll tell you
What we did with it.

Yeah, I can hear a woman's voice
Whispering "No."

I thought it was still
A little murky.

You could kind of hear a "No,"
But I wasn't exactly sure.

So barry was able to match it up
On the voice recorder,

And take a listen
On there.

It's interesting that you guys
Did get a direct response

In what's obviously
A woman's voice.

Definitely.

Well, how'd we do
For research?

Well,
As far as research,

I ended up calling up
The coroner's office

To see if I could verify

That albert liddy
Had died in the theater.

And, actually, he did.
He died by his own hand.

He took a shotgun and blew
His brains out.

So, this actually
Did happen there.

That is fact.

That's pretty cool.
Yeah.

That's some
Serious research.

They were
Very cooperative.

Well, brian, if you can throw
That evp on a cd for us,

We'll bring it over to pat
And see what he thinks.

Not a problem.

First things first.

We had some
Personal experiences

That we'd like to share
With you.

Dustin, andy, and brian,

When they were up
On the catwalk,

They heard a loud
Bang sound.

No idea where it came from.
Brian exclaims, "Was that you?"

He didn't hear any voice
Respond to him,

But I want you to listen
And see what he picked up

On his handheld camera

When we went back and reviewed
The footage.

That noise?

no.

Play that again. See if you
Can hear anything there.

is that you that just made

no.

It was two sounds--
"Da da."

We listened to this
As we were going through

And watching this video,

And what we heard was a very
Faint sound in the background.

And then we remembered,
Well, wait a second,

We had a digital voice--
Handheld digital voice recorder

Running at the same time.

So we went back,
We found the exact same moment,

And we want you to listen
To that same thing again.

This time it's just gonna be
The audio.

And I think you may be able
To hear, a little better,

The response he gets.

no.

"No."

That's what we heard.

Somebody's saying "No."

Did it sound like a man's voice,
Woman's voice?

Oh, a woman speaking softly,
I would think.

The first thing,
When I heard this, is, "Okay,

Let's make 100% sure there was
No women in that area."

So we tracked down donna,

Found out
That she was actually

Outside of the theater
At the time.

So that's where it really
Became impressive

To me for a couple reasons.

One-- there was
No woman there.

Two-- it was captured

On two different pieces
Of equipment.

Three-- we know
That it wasn't a sound

Coming in from outside

Because they should have been
Able to hear that.

And four-- that it seems
To answer a question

That was presented.

"Did you make that noise?"
"No."

So, even though that is
The sole piece of evidence,

To us, it was still
A pretty impressive one.

So, what does it tell you?

Does it tell you that the place
Is occupied by a being

Of some description
Or other?

To me, it says that there
May be paranormal activity

Happening
In the opera house.

Is it enough,
By our standards,

To throw our hands up
And say this place is haunted?

No. It's one evp.
It's one piece of evidence.

But is it enough to say,

"Yeah, it seems like there's
Something going on here"? Yes.

And one of the things
That also is helpful to us

Is that we have donna,

Who is able to do research
On all the locations

And help us make the kind
Of connections

With the evidence
That we normally would find.

And she was actually
Able to find

Albert liddy's
Death certificate.

It turns out he went insane

And shot himself out back
Of the opera house.

Unfinished?

What we do know
Is that the builders just left.

These stonemason tools were left
All around the building.

They were scared off the site
By something.

We don't know what.

The mansion have been collected,

And they're stored

Of the mysteries.

Directly above us there.

A pagan symbol,

So completely goes
Against catholic faith.

Also, the dogs.

Seems like an odd place
To put dogs into the ceiling.

It doesn't make sense.

Has there been activity

Specifically
Within the cathedral?

Yeah, had an apparition sighted
In this doorway.

So, where are we

If we move on 'round

Lewington:
I was on the phone,

And I heard footsteps along
The first-floor corridor

very clearly, very distinctly.

so much so, the person
On the other end

of the phone said,
"Who's coming?"

But I was actually alone
In the mansion

And had been for about
An hour beforehand.

On the front staircase
We're going up now,

There are unconfirmed sightings
Of a little girl

Running up and down
These stairs.

The activity
That we get up here

Is a blue light coming
From this end of the corridor

Down towards that end
Of the corridor.

When you come up here at night,
As well,

This part of the mansion

Does feel a lot more heavy
In atmosphere.

Where are we off to next?

The cellar.

This is what we call
The vaulted room.

The paranormal activity
Down here is a black cloud,

And people have visibly
Disappeared behind this cloud.

And also strange noises--
Male moaning, sighing.

A black dog
Has also been sighted

Running
Through the corridor.

It's easy to tell
If an orb in a photo

A piece of dust.

A piece of dust
Has a well-defined center.

It has rings coming off it,
Almost like a tree stump,

And it's not gonna be
Self-illuminated.

It's not going to be giving off
Its own light.

All right, I see a blue light
Towards you.

Do you have a blue light
On right now?

No, you shouldn't be seeing
Any blue light.

Now it's gone.

I did get what looked to be
A blue light.

It was a little tough

Because there was a lot of dust
Floating around,

But dust usually throws off
More of a white reflection,

Not blue.

Quiet for a second?

sounded like a woman.
Sounded like a wailing.

behind me, off to the left side,

I thought I heard what sounded
Like a high-pitched wailing

or a moaning female-type voice.

I don't know if a camera
Would've picked it up.

Definitely gives it
More credibility.

So the only theory I can have
Is, right below us one floor,

Is where a woman
Sometimes appears.

I don't know if there's any
Audio associated with that,

And see if anything pops up.

robb: yeah, I had some weird
Noises in the basement bang.

Emf meter seeming to respond
To questions.

Barry: I came down here
Into the cellars with robb

Because he was having
Some experiences.

One in particular was
The emf meter was triggering.

It seemed to be corresponding
To questions.

Thinking that it wasn't going
To be a long period of time.

They might be coming back
In a month or so.

It just never came to be.

That is quite strange.

That blue light over there?"

He goes charging over.

He's up by the windowsill,

And he sees a blue light go up
The staircase over here.

And dustin and I
Were on the third floor.

From out of nowhere,

I saw a blue light fly
Through my line of vision.

Yeah, well, again, the third
Floor, on the walk-around,

I said that's one
Of the areas

Where blue lights
Are commonly seen.

I find it very interesting
That it's happening in areas

That we're asking questions,

That we're asking
For some kind of response.

We're asking questions
Out loud--

"Can you make yourself
Known to us?"--

And things like that
Are happening.

With so many
Call-and-response,

The stories
Of the blue lights--

So many people seeing it--
These growls, the music.

You know, one or two things,
You could say,

"Well, gee, maybe it was this.
Maybe it was that."

But with this kind of stuff,
There's so much.

To the best
Of our knowledge,

There is definitely
Something paranormal

Going on here
At woodchester mansion.

And I would agree
With robb.
